Maternity clothes

Re: Maternity clothes

  • @PensiveCrayon Thanks! I need to start looking for some maternity shorts and capris for summer I think. All mine are mostly tight fitting anyway and even with this bloat, I think only 2-3 pairs of my capris will fit and maybe on pair of shorts. Ugh.

  • @temmetime I'm the same way! I look at maternity clothes online almost everyday, but I haven't purchased anything yet. I wish I could see/try on some of this stuff in person!! The places by me, like Target, don't carry much of a selection in-store, and Old Navy and Gap don't have any maternity clothes in-store. It's frustrating! I think I'm going to go the threadUp/eBay route and look for some lots that have a bunch of things in them, and just pray that at least half the stuff fits!

I would definitely recommend buying online with motherhood maternity. A much larger selection and stock than in the store and you can return whatever doesn't work out to the store. Also, loving the side panel pants right now when the old pants don't fit but it seems too soon for full panel.

I fondly remember the day I went full-on maternity clothes the first time around (around 14 weeks) and the sheer joy, freedom, and happiness of the day.  I highly doubt I will be depriving myself of that for as long this time around lol

  • FYI: Motherhood Maternity and Old Navy are having pretty good sales right now. I ordered 4-5 shirts off Old Navy (yay tank tops!), side panel shorts, and a pair of fold down shorts. I paid $47 total including tax and shipping.

I've ordered some stuff from them and I think it's pretty good quality!  I will say their shorts run really small so beware.  I'm a size 6/8 and ordered a pair of full panel denim shorts in a large and they only juuuust fit.  The linen ones were a bit better and have much more room.

*ETA:  I haven't actually washed and worn anything much so I can't attest to long term durability, but out of the box I've been pleased with how everything feels and fits.

  •  With my first pregnancy I got some cute maternity underwear on Amazon. I was so glad I did, especially after having a C-section. It was the other thing I could wear once I graduated from the mesh panties that didn’t aggravate my incision.
  • @katy0990 My first pregnancy everyone told me to get BIG underwear for post partum and I did. I had a c section so it was no bueno for a while with my underwear always rubbing against it. Glad to know there is maternity underwear, which sounds perfect for that time period.

  • I never wore maternity underwear, even after my section. But the underwear I wear to bed are sort of boy shorts and come up almost to my belly button anyway and are super stretchy so I loved those post section. I also needed something above my incision but not rubbing since I wore a belly bandit for 6 weeks to help with recovery so they were perfect.
  • @AdorkablePixie my blump keeps pushing my underwear down and/or causing the waistband to fold down and it’s been bothering me.  I didn’t have a bump this early last time and my bump was always really high so I never had this issue before.

  • I ended up finding some things at Destination Maternity and the Macy's maternity section this weekend. I really was just looking for a dress for a wedding that I could wear to more weddings this summer, but ended up with a pair of leggings, jeans and shorts as well. Didn't think I'd want them this early but everything has been putting SO much pressure on my abdomen and it's so uncomfortable. These pants are all super comfy. Plus a new bra since all of mine were too small and I decided just to get the nursing one now with a little room to grow into it. Still didn't solve my work pants problem. :)

I found a pair of shorts from two years ago the summer I gave birth to DS. They’re regular shorts but 3 sizes larger than my regular size, and screw it I’ll rock these for a while. My shorts from last year are fine everywhere but the waist :’(

  • I decided to get a belly band from target last week and wish I would’ve got one sooner! I’m FTM at 14w3days today and I’m realizing I am going to have to get newpants this weekend. I’m short so I want to try stuff on before I buy it, at least for pants. Hoping to find some maternity consignment shops around me. The bloat is real!
  • @countrygirl624 I’m a few weeks behind you, but I finally ordered a belly band and pants extenders from Amazon myself.

And you ladies have gotten me slightly obsessed with Lularoe on Poshmark and eBay!

Otherwise, I’m mostly living in old lady (J.Jill - I’m 40 so it’s not completely unreasonable) tent dresses and elastic-waisted pants and skirts at the moment.  But because I’m still nauseous, another constraint for me is long sleeves (getting weird in June) to cover up the sea bands that I’m not entirely convinced are doing anything.

  •  @artemis618 could you wear some substantial bracelets or watches over the seabands? I have a heavy leather and silver bracelet that’s fitted and almost 3 inches wide that I think would cover a seaband entirely. Just thinking whether there is any way you can hide them and stay cooler if needed.
  • @Katzalia Thanks for the suggestion, but I think my coworkers might find it even weirder that I randomly started accessorizing!  I’m in Los Angeles, so it’s pretty mild here.  I’m hoping that I just won’t need the sea bands for too much longer (fingers crossed!).
