So I admit I am clueless can someone tell me what the point of having a cleaning person is? I hear you have to pre clean before they even come over and they just like dust which would take me seconds. Its the dishes and laundry we struggle getting done lol!

My wtf is the lack of air conditioning because all the buildings at work are "historic". I am dying.

  • @ninji15 Yeah, it's annoying to have to pick up the place before the cleaners get here, but they do all the floors, bathrooms, wipe down all surfaces, change the sheets on our bed (which is a big PITA for me, especially as I get more pregnant). There's no way I could get it all done with a toddler, let alone toddler and baby, and still get a little bit of time at night to relax.
  • @ninji15

The “precleaning” I do is because they don’t put stuff away.  They dust around stuff you have out, and don’t pick up dog beds to clean the floor underneath.  Also- by tidying stuff away before they get there, I keep things from piling up (usually).  Also- I don’t like leaving my personal stuff out (like bills and jewelry).

They clean my bathroom and mop my floor.  These are the two cleaning tasks I detest the most.  Mine currently only come once a month, so even if they did dishes and laundry, it would be pointless.
  • @coffee-saur For real! What an improvement that would make!

  • @ninji15 We have a win win because our nanny is our cleaning lady in a sense. So she doesn’t do the deep clean stuff a cleaning lady would do (like bathrooms), but the 2-3 days a week she’s here she keeps up with the day to day stuff like dishes, baby laundry, sweeping, and toy clean up. That was actually a big factor for ua in deciding nanny vs daycare. The slightly higher cost was worth the extra stuff that gets done (plus we work from home so it’s nice still being able to see DS during the day).

I suppose that makes sense! I can see the floors and bed being a huge help. Maybe someday I will budget for one and try it out.

When I had a cleaning lady regularly I got her to do all the deep cleaning things like the oven, fridge, microwave, garbage containers, baseboards, windows. She also does the dishes, cleans the kitchen, washrooms, floors, dusting and laundry. I had mine biweekly so she has a routine and did things as needed. We got rid of the service two years ago due to budget ($120 for 4 hours every two weeks was getting pricey) but now that we are moving into a larger house and will have a kid, we are working it back into our budget. So now to find one I like again!

  • WTF? I have to pee all the time... except right now when I need to take my drug test.  Apparently they drug test all pregnant women now and I didn’t know because I’ve never had to do it for pregnancy before, so when I went to get my blood work a couple days ago, I peed before I went in and then couldn’t produce enough for the test... and here I am sitting outside chugging my drink trying to make myself need to go. I only went once this morning too!

@purplegoldfish2 I wonder why they drug test pregnant women at your OB? I know that I have to give a urine sample at my monthly appointments to check my levels, but I don't believe they've drug tested me before. Weird.
  • @sliztee I don’t know. I didn’t have it done with my first or with the mc that I got first tri tests done last year, but those were at different practices. An older friend told me she thought the laws recently changed, but maybe it’s only for Erie County?  Either that or I just look suspicious.  I wasn’t feeling great and looked horrible up until a couple weeks ago so maybe they thought I was on drugs.  Seriously though, it seemed like it was routine. Just kind of stinks that we’re going to have to pay for it because insurance is dumb... I don’t even take OTC stuff if I can avoid it, so I certainly am not on heroin or cocaine or whatever else is on the list that they’re testing for.

Damn! Not sure if that's statewide or just Erie, but seems really strange @purplegoldfish2

  • I've heard some OBs do a drug test automatically without notifying patients, since patients already give urine samples regularly. That of course could be fear mongering, but it's no big deal to me personally.

See that would make more sense to me, have them ween off together and clean out their systems that way. I didn't ask more about it because my friend and I don't have drug dependencies (she smokes weed though but isn't dependent like an opioid) it is interesting what each hospitals chose to do, the hospital we go to now doesn't test at all as far as I know anyway but it is an older and smaller hospital that doesn't have the the same means for tests
  • @mytrueloves That’s entirely possible.  Maybe I was tested and didn’t know previously.  This one was at the lab that does the blood draw instead of at the OB office, so maybe it’s just a different policy.  Around the time my kids were born, I saw a story about a woman that tested positive in the hospital and CPS was called and she wasn’t allowed to see the baby... and then it turned it to be a false positive (can’t remember the details of how that happened).  I thought it was weird that they tested her because I hadn’t been tested that I know of and assumed they had reason to test.

  • I don't know how I always get stuck with the Friday afternoon emergencies at work. I could've snuck out earlier if I didn't have to take care of this crap. I swear my coworkers don't have to do this.
  • @hannaht8516 I feel ya! My boss texted me this morning minutes before I was leaving to go to my OB appointment. There was an issue at our facility, and I needed to see what happened. So I go to open my computer and I get a blue screen ( not of death) and it says I have to enter some recovery code and I can't because I don't know wtf they are taking about and I can't enter anything but numbers. Oh and it's my day off too! Gah! Thankfully my other co-worker handled it and I just a million texts from him and my boss while I was driving to my appointment.
  • @jemmerjams It never fails!

  • Today is the Mother’s Day celebration at preschool.  Parents were asked to sign up for stuff to bring to the party.  I have 2 kids in the class so I always get twice as much as the other parents.  I show up today and half the parents didn’t sign up to bring anything and when they said they could go out and get stuff before we are supposed to be back the teacher was like oh, don’t worry about it - we have enough.  WTF? So do we not really need to bring stuff in for these things? Because I am more than happy to skip it, especially since I’ve been bringing double all year.
