@tumbleweed123 Amazon has it. I use their bug spray too. Though, I think it’s made with EOs, so one should be cautious.
Good idea! I always forget I can buy staples like that online. We have prime too. I usually just use amazon to buy gifts. I make thieves vinegar for bug spray (mentioned in more detail the fffc “woo” discussion) I think it works? I don’t usually get bug bites, so it must be working (I used to get bit by mosquitoes so bad when I was a kid that it looked like I had chicken pox). It’s a people repellent too if you spray enough (until it dries & you can’t smell the vinegar anymore).
SO’s dad. He is always condescending. I don’t think he realizes it. He’s just a Mr. I-know-everything kind of guy, and he tells me things I already know, as if I should be thankful for his information. It’s been going on for years- SO has pulled him aside privately before to explain how he comes across, specifically to me. Because I end up looking like the bitch because he’s so clueless. It’s gotten better, but ugh.
Yesterday he was over, and pointed out that we didn’t get a coffee table (like we talked about doing). I started to say “we really just need a spot to put our drinks, so the end tables work fine” while gesturing to the end table. He interrupts me at the word “drinks” to laugh and tell me that I was pointing to an end table, not a coffee table. *eyeroll*
Me every time he talks to me
Girl, I feel your pain. My FIL is the exact same way. I feel like he thinks most women are just silly little girls, which is ridiculous because his wife and both of his daughters are extremely smart, capable women. I definitely get the vibe he feels that way about me. Every time we visit them I get a comment on the size of my bag/suitcase. Apparently a medium-sized suitcase, which holds ALL of my stuff (clothes, shoes, bathroom stuff, etc.) is too big for a 4-5 day visit. The latest one was when I was talking about some dental work I may need to have done - I have receding gums due to genetics and a few other things, and will likely need to have some grafts done in the not-too-distant future. He informed me that I should talk to my dentist before making the decision. Really?! I need to talk to my dentist about my dental health?? Silly me! I was just going to go get the surgery without any kind of input or referral!
It also seems like he thinks my husband and I are still like 17 year old kids, even though we are 30. Every home-improvement project we want to do ourselves, which is most of them, is apparently something we aren't capable of doing. We built the fence in our backyard ourselves and he thought it was just the most ridiculous thing we could ever do.
Anyway, the man drives me insane. I don't know how his wife does it - she is a saint. I can't wait for all of the great advice he's going to bestow on us after we have kids.
I'm totally with everyone for the family stress this week. I've mentioned on some other threads how I recently moved, I actually spent about 5 years away from family and now I'm in my hometown. Went to my parents for dinner as DH was working late last night, and my 20 year old brother just let out all his anger from 10 or so years ago.... was a very stressful night... and it's hard to know how to respond as most of it is projected blame / stuff I really can't change as it was ages ago. Let's just move on?? Its nice not to feel alone with some of this stress.
Hubby & Me: Born 1993 Married: August 2013 Son: December 2018 Baby in heaven: February 2020, was due Sept
@AdorkablePixie Glad your back is feeling better. @sheshae Yep, already did. I got the green light from my OB, and I have an appt in about 3 hours @Gwyneddlesliegrace That sucks about your washer. Hope you are able to get it repaired soon.
Sunscreen is like my hill to die on, since there's a decent chance I'm going to get skin cancer at some point in my life. I seriously don't think there's anything *more* bad about using the chemical stuff while you're pregnant, but please please please consider switching to the physical blockers just in general, for you and especially your babies once they're here. I know I'm super paranoid, but I don't want to spend years lathering myself in something to avoid skin cancer, only to find out the chemicals I used caused... skin cancer.
@Hollyyyyy I have been seeing my chiropractor regularly since December due to some neck pain/headaches. I actually had an appt with him 2 days after I found out I was pregnant. I let him know and he thanked me for telling him and basically told me it was safe, but they avoid one or two things if they know you're pregnant. My next appt with him (for upkeep on the neck problem) is on Friday.
@hkom@tumbleweed-1 My FIL is awesome, my MIL is the stressful one. She's a super sweet woman but worries wayyyy too much and thinks she has it all correct all the time. Within thirty minutes of us telling her that I'm pregnant, she rummaged through her bookcase to find a book that came out in 2004 that's all about teaching children values. I had to somehow nicely push it back explaining that I had a huge book list and I was working first on having a healthy pregnancy before even thinking about how I'm going to raise my kid. I really wanted to madly tell her the book was out of date and I'd rather look at reviews online and pick a book that is modern and well-reviewed... but I couldn't because she said that a neighbor of hers had wanted it a few months back and she had told them no because she was "saving" it for us. *Sigh* She has the best of intentions, but she doesn't actually know a lot that I want to take from in the realm of child rearing. Oh, biggest crazy? She also told us that we should have our second kid quickly because she does not have as close a connection to her brother that is 3 years older than her to the one that is only 1 year older. (3 months between birth and pregnancy anybody?) I told her that modern science tells us that the optimum time between birth and the next pregnancy is at least 18 months if not longer... It doesn't always happen that way, but I'd prefer to give my body a break.
@omnommer the spacing/sibling closeness is all relative. I’m not as close to my sister who is 5 years younger than me as I am to my sister who is 14 months younger than me. But if I didn’t have a sister practically my age, then I would be closer to my siblings who are spaced further apart. Space your children out however much you want to or can.
@omnommer I have sisters who are twins, who are four years younger than I am. By your MIL's theory, they should be close, and me not so much. One of my twins is my BFF, for real. Neither of us is as close to the other twin. It turns out that *gasp* people have their own personalities regardless of when they're born relative to others, and that might have an effect on closeness.
That said, I'm terrified that this baby is going to be the outcast since my first two are close-ish in age and are always right on top of each other. FX they like the new guy just as much as they like each other.
My bitch for the day: at work, we need to log every 15 minute segment of time so that they can track what we're doing. Since I started here, I've just updated a separate calendar in Outlook and put macros into the appointment name so that the information would just be parsed into the important fields when I copy it over to the tracking system.
So, for example, I write, "customer support/random hospital ID,this is what I did" as the name of the appointment, and when I click, "Copy" it puts it in like this: what I did: customer support who I did it for: random hospital ID description: this is what I did
I've done this for TEN LONG YERRRS and it's never been an issue. A few months ago, the parsing stopped working, so now when I copy over, it looks like this: what I did: who I did it for: description: customer support/random hospital ID,this is what I did
so then I have to go back for every goddamn entry and parse it out manually. Ain't nobody got time for that! And it still works for everyone else.... Grrrrrrr. And I mean, 1. I could probably just enter in the system directly, except that I have outlook open ever single minute of the day and this system open 1/week. and 2. I could most definitely stop putting the stupid macro in my appointment names, except that my brain is legit hard-wired to do this now.
So I finally had had enough and submitted a ticket for someone to take a look, because I'm crabby as hell and don't want to deal with this anymore. And this guy comes back at me like, "just do the step on the wiki under the FAQs". Listen, douchecanoe. I don't know why you think I would endure this hell for months or go to all the trouble to submit a ticket without trying all the things, but I've tried all the things. It doesn't work. Please read IN MY TICKET where it says that I've tried the things, and get back to me with a real answer. I can't live like this.
I hope our families are ready for a One & Done! If anybody says anything about us having more kids I am lucky that our parents respect us and will not try to change our minds.
FWIW, I used to want two, but now I think that one is more our speed. A lot of my friends have kids close in age, but they are close in age to their siblings, so it's all normal for them. DH isn't super close to his older sister, and I am super old compared to my siblings (I have four half-siblings -the one nearest my age is nine years younger, they one furthest from my age is 23 years younger). Besides, I like the idea of dumping all of our time and resources into one person, and not needing minivans...unless it's FULL OF DOGS.

@runrinserepeat@tumbleweed-1 Thanks for your thoughts! Yes, definitely is all to each person's perspective and everyone does have their own personality. I just was flummoxed that she actually thought that it was necessary for me to get pregnant three months after giving birth, rather than my husband's and my choice of when/if to add to the family again. My FIL actually told her to stop talking, lol. But to each their own. My mom and her sister are only 11 months apart, but they don't have any other siblings either.
Also, @runrinserepeat I have to log my time by the 15 minute segment too since we have different clients and bill our time to them. I do not like having the software open all the time, so I literally write it down on a piece of paper like 8:30-10 this thing for this client, 10-11 admin stuff, 11-11:15 this thing for this client. I then put it into the software every 3-5 days. I can't imagine though having the system you were using suddenly stop working - that would be SO annoying!
@echo-charlietango Hopefully no one will give you a hard time. My husband is an only child and I have friends who are only children - they rock! Also, please get a minivan full of dogs. That would be amazing.
@kelseyyh That sounds super stressful. I hope he is able to work through everything easily so everyone can move on.
@omnommer Your MIL sounds just like my mom! The know it all attitude drives me crazy! You will find the ideal spacing for your family and will make it work.

It could! Though, I would make sure it has citronella. That’s what really keeps the buggers away.

I realize it's not monday.... I think while i'm trying to be extra patient because I know I am on a short fuse, grammatical and punctuation mistakes online are DRIVING ME INSANE. I just want to go around trolling everyone who uses an apostrophe when trying to pluralize their name. THE SMITH'S WHAT?!?!?!?! Ok, I typed all this out and I realize it's ridiculous. I'm going outside for a walk and trying to regain sanity.
@morgantu Lack of punctuation is what gets me. Why do people write a wall of text with absolutely no periods or commas? I can never understand it and end up quitting halfway through.

The no punctuation KILLS ME. I don't even begin to read them it irks me so bad.

Welcome to my world! I love/hate being an editor because I see all of the mistakes, but I know that it’s only worth my time to worry about the errors I’m being paid to correct. My mantra has been “don’t work for free”
