Appointments - Week Of 4.16

Noticed this didn't get started yesterday, but I bet a bunch of us have appointments this week! Post here if you've got one, any questions you might have about your appointment, and/or a follow up to tell us how it went - whatever you want! :)

Re: Appointments - Week Of 4.16

  • My appointment is Wednesday! Dying over here. So ready. And of course taking every little symptom or lack thereof as doom. ::eye roll at myself::
I know plenty can still happen after seeing a heartbeat (I’ll only be 7 weeks) but dang it’s going to make me feel so much better to see it.
  • ***TW*** threatened miscarriage- I ended up at the Dr. this morning with a lot of bleeding. Dr. did a vaginal exam and said my cervix is still think and closed but that the bleeding is coming from my uterus. Because I am only 5 weeks he said an ultrasound would not tell us very much. He drew blood to check HCG and progesterone and I will go back Wed morning for my redraw. The amount of blood seems to be decreasing from this morning so I am just trying to remain hopeful.

  • @littlewhitecottage Good luck with your appointment Wed!!!

@mckcak23 I'm so sorry, that sounds terrifying. Sending you all the good thoughts for excellent numbers. I'm glad the bleeding seems to be decreasing at least. Keep us posted. <3
  • @mckcak23 Ugh I’m so sorry! That must be very scary. Praying that everything is okay. Decreasing bleeding is a very good thing. Keep us updated on how you’re doing. <3
  • @mckcak23 hoping for the best and that your bleeding stops right away.
  • @littlewhitecottage I feel your pain! I have an US tomorrow at 7 weeks 3 days and I want so badly to see baby bean and the heartbeat! I've been microanalyzing every single thing I feel (or don't feel) for the past 2 weeks! C'mon tomorrow!!

@mckcak23 So sorry that you're going through this! FX that the bleeding stops and your numbers are good today and Wednesday! Thinking about you and your baby bean!

I have an appointment this Thursday and I am also dying to get there. I'm had some light brown spotting on and off my the past week now and although my doc said it's noting to worry about it's really been messing with my head. Thursday cannot come quick enough. Actually, the end of the 1st trimester cannot come quick enough either!

  • I see my OB tomorrow, I’ll be 5+6. I’m just checking in and asking for a progesterone draw, and he might want to see betas.

Afterward I’ll meet DH at the immunization clinic to see if they want me to get a rabies vaccine...

We had two bats in our bedroom last week! We don’t suspect any bites, but DH’s doctor wants us to get the vaccines anyway.

  • @maureenmce But...what if I want gory details?

  • @echo-charlietango I love gory details! Not everyone does though! So...I'll put it in the spoiler.

So, I worked on a show called Virus Hunters and it was people from the CDC, etc., trying to figure out outbreaks, mysterious deaths, etc. Anyway, the case on one show was about this young, healthy guy in his 20's who had died from a drug overdose. Since he was young and healthy, they gave his organs to a BUNCH of different people...but they all started dying or getting incredibly ill. Anyway, turns out, in talking to his family and friends, the guy had had a bat fly into his apartment. He didn't think it bit him, but apparently it did, and it gave him rabies. So, even though he *had* died of a drug overdose, he also had rabies, and the organs that had been donated were giving all the donors rabies. It was CRAZY. It also made me pretty gung ho about shots when a bat's in your house, even if you aren't sure they bit you!
  • @maureenmce HOLY CRAP! That is one of the craziest stories I've ever heard!

  • I have ultrasound on Wed. Hoping to hear heartbeat. I will be 6w6d (did IVF so that is accurate). I had ultrasound at 5w4d and we saw yolk sac. I’ve been feeling exhausted, nauseous, etc, so hoping I’m progressing as I should.

    @mckcak23 T&Ps!

I had my first appt with the Dr today. Third beta draw & so far so good. He did an exam & I've been cramping ever since  :/

    First ultrasound on Thursday.

  • @mckcak23 Oh no! So terrifying to have any kind of bleeding. I'm glad it's stopping and I hope they can figure out a benign cause! Please, oh please, let it be NBD (no big deal!)

I have three "appointments" this week. Not really all "appointments" per se - two bloods and my annual GYN visit just happened to be scheduled for Friday. Bloodwork for HCG today was good, everything "doubled" as it should have. More HCG and TSH Wednesday. Then annual gyn visit Friday. Of course, I'll tell them I'm pregnant, but I am not expecting much different to happen besides maybe a urine sample(?) and maybe more discussion about what's next. We'll see.

  • I have an RE appointment on Wednesday that I made before I got pregnant to discuss recurrent miscarriage and they gave me the option of keeping the appointment so I guess I’m going to go still.  Not sure what they’ll do at the appointment but hoping they’ll maybe offer me some additional monitoring.

My first appointment was today and I finally have my first ultrasound scheduled a week from today!! I'm a mix of excited and nervous! The other thing I'm a little nervous for is to find out how the blood work goes that they drew today. They decided since Ive been changing the litter boxes (I've been wearing gloves after I found out I was pregnant) to go ahead and test for toxoplasmosis.

  • I feel like this fits best here...just got the call that I failed my glucose test and they're not even going to have me do the 3 hour, just considering me GD from the start. They're going to send my info to some clinic that will set me up with a one time appointment for counseling to learn about what to eat, not to eat, testing my sugar, all that stuff. So yay...

  • Not a this-week appointment, but I finally got my referral from Tricare and set up my first prenatal appointment for May 7! I'll be 8 1/2 weeks along by then, so well within gummy bear phase? I sure hope so :) With #1 I only first saw him at around 12 weeks.

@CecilB93 Oh man that is rough! Have you had GD before or is this all new for you? Hope the GD diet isn't too overwhelming!

@PensiveCrayon You should be exactly in the gummy bear phase! :)
  • @maureenmce I didn't have it with DS, so new to me. I was active and dieting to try and lose weight when I got pregnant with him. This time around that's not the case. We've been eating mostly healthy, not all the time though. And I've definitely not been active. So I'm sure that's a big part of it. Still sucks so much...now I'm going to be concerned this whole pregnancy that baby's going to have issues...

  • @CecilB93 Try not to worry! The good thing is, you're starting on the GD diet plan from basically the beginning, and no matter what your number, that plan is the best way to keep things in check and make sure your LO does great. Sounds like you have very proactive doctors, so I bet you and this LO will do great!
  • @CecilB93 Yeah, that does seem rather high. I'm sorry about this, but maybe having this happen so early, it won't feel like such a shock or a change. Now, you can just spend your entire pregnancy with this knowledge.

I failed my one hour, but passed my three hour last pregnancy.  My LO was born almost 2 weeks late and was 9lbs9oz with blood sugar issues and had to be in the NICU for 5 days to get it under control.  I can't help but think maybe I developed GD later in pregnancy? I vividly remember the NICU specialist coming in and asking me "You didn't have GD? Because if I just had to go based off your baby, I'd say you did."

I say all that to say, I guess I'd rather take care of it then have to deal with aftermath! If it makes you feel any better, I gave up sweets for lent and have yet to have any since lent was over.  My plan is to abstain as long as I can! So, you won't be alone in giving things up!!!!

How are you feeling about the dx?

  • @maureenmce I'm hoping that's the case (proactive OB). I used a MW with my son, so this OB is new to me and I don't meet her until next Friday, the 27th. I've got so many extra questions to ask her though.

@texas_t honestly, pissed off. Not at anyone in particular other than maybe myself for allowing myself to gain so much weight (heavier now than my heaviest during my first pregnancy), mostly just pissed at the situation. And a little upset that I'll have to monitor every little thing I eat and that cravings are probably not going to be things I can indulge in, but I know that's selfish. Of course I'll do my absolute best to stick with a healthier diet, I don't want issues for me or baby, but a part of me is upset about the food I'll be missing out on. I text DH right away and he's trying to be Mr Positive about it, which I do appreciate, but man, let me wallow in self pity for at least a day!! Lol

  • @cecilB93 Girl, this is nothing that you did! One of my good friends was diagnosed with GD and she's tiny.  She followed her diet to the t and still had to control things with meds.  Sometimes your body just isn't thrilled to be pregnant. Also, you can absolutely indulge, just not the way I "indulged" during my first pregnancy, lol
