Treat yourself

Hopefully a fun post for any mommas who want to treat themselves a little during pregnancy (this will be my first we aren’t in grad school for so am looking forward to a splurge or two!) So what are your favorite pregnancy indulgences - maternity clothing brands, beauty products, etc? Basically anything that made pregnancy easier or just made you feel good/beautiful as your body took on a mind of its own! FTMs feel free to chip in with anything you are looking forward to getting yourself!

Re: Treat yourself

  • FTM I am planning on getting Massages as I get closer to delivery if still allowed.
  • Loading the player...
  • With DD, I went for pedicures probably once a week the last few months of pregnancy.

I didn't even care about the $, it was the only thing that helped relieve my aching feet.

  • @zwink1 I just ordered one off of Amazon! I can't wait for it to get here! H already told me he's stealing it when I am away
  • I didn't get a massage last time and really regretted it.  I'm definitely splurging on one this time.  And more pedicures!
  • Oh, @kiwi2628 reminded me. Landscapers this summer. I do not have the time to maintain my landscaping under ideal circumstances... not doing it 6-8 months pregnant.

I've already told H I'm buying one of those massive wrap around body pillows. His response was, "you don't even want one of those because you're pregnant, you just want one." He's not wrong, I just have an excuse now!
I bought a regular body pillow and I told DH last night I wish I had splurged on the Snoogle I was eyeing...
  • @kiwi2628 that’s what I did for myself when I was pregnant with DS, and it was the best move ever! We only have our cleaning person come every two weeks, but it’s so nice to have the house fully cleaned by someone other than me!

This time around, I’d love to treat myself to some prenatal massages later on. Oh and for anyone wondering if you should get one of those pregnancy body pillows, the answer is definitely yes. Just do it, they’re awesome!
  • What pillows does everyone recommend? My husband never got me a birthday present soooo... I googled but there are SO. MANY. PILLOWS!!

I got the snoogle my last pregnancy. It worked out well the 2nd trimester, but honestly once I hit my 3rd I took up so much space I couldn’t get comfortable with a huge pillow on the bed also. What worked when I only had a few months left were just regular pillows strategically placed around my body wherever I needed support each night.

@kimberbeep I just got the Full Pregnancy Body Pillow Originally with Washable Cover-U Shaped-By QUEEN ROSE (copy and paste from Amazon.) Will let you know how it is!

If it's too big I feel like this just helps my campaign in trying to convince H that we NEED a king size bed. Need is the key word there.
  • @kimberbeep I used the snoogle mini last time and it was great. Big enough to provide support but not so big that I felt like it took over our bed.
  • @pumpkinpancake There's a snoogle mini!?!?  This fact just made my day
  • @chopchop25 - That's the one I got and it's the best thing ever. It doesn't take up much space for me, but then again we do have a king size bed!
  • @KFrob yes and it’s the best!!
  • I just have a standard body pillow and that has been in our bed forever :) maybe I can upgrade to one of those U pillows! I am intrigued by the mini... Runs off to google it....
  • At some point as we get closer to baby time I’m getting a handwoven Tula ring sling. Take all my money, internet.

  • I want to get a ring sling this pregnancy. We had an Ergo for DD but my torso is so short it was uncomfortable so I rarely used it.
  • FYI the u pillow mentioned above is on Amazon lightening deals right now
  • Massages. All the massages. Also, really nice shampoo and conditioner for after I deliver. That first shower in the hospital can either be awful or amazing and the “special” fancy shampoo and conditioner made it feel so nice!
  • A new bathroom. Ha!

(Ok- that plan has been in the works for five years, but baby on the way moved up the date- I’m not squeezing myself into the tiny space between the toilet and sink to give a toddler a bath.)
  • Do you like this pregnancy pillow? I’ve been researching them and I’m not sure which one to buy!!
  • Massage and chiro. Already have a snoogle from before. I’m probably going to splurge on a fancy tandem babywearing set up (probably a TwinGo). And maybe take DD with me for a mani or two. She’d be in heaven.

  • When my son was 2, I splurged on a diaper bag that I loved and was super expensive. Luckily I got pregnant with my daughter so it was justified in the end. I want to get a new one since I’ll probably have two in diapers for a while I may do that! I know that it’s more of a Mom splurge but I love diaper bags!

@mommy2ane I’m trying to convince DH I need a new diaper bag for this babe.  He bought me a semi splurge one when I pregnant w DD but I used it for a year and a half and it’s definitely showing signs of wear. I have a bday in July so I’m thinking I’ll ask for one.
  • We are doing our budget for the year soon and I really want to find room for housecleaning just until baby comes.
  • I'm getting all the massages. My normal place won't do them in first trimester without a doctor's note, so I've had to go without for way too long. Really hoping it helps stop the daily headaches/migraines and sciatica. First one is in 2 weeks!! I suppose I could have gotten a doctor's note, because my Dr looked at me like I was crazy for stopping massages, so he clearly didn't have an issue.
  • @chopchop25 do you like that pillow!? I’ve been searching for U shaped pillows and not sure which one to buy!
  • @chopchop25 we gave up cable 5 years ago and never looked back!

    Me: 33 DH: 31
    Location: Castle Rock, CO
    DD: 10.13.18
    baby #2 due: 7.14.20

  • I'm getting season tickets to our theater. They start in September though, so it'll be more like a mom's relaxing night out with one of my sorority sisters. It'll be nice to have a baby free night planned every few months.
  • @chopchop25 @sarahzett Same! We've gone without for maybe 4 years now? We just have Sling TV, and add packages like HBO, sports, or Hallmark as necessary. It's well under $50 a month I think.

We never really watched a lot of live TV anyway, mostly just Netflix and football. We have a HD antenna that we use to get basic cable for watching football or local news during emergency events and it seems to work out just fine. I've thought about getting cable for the kiddo, but really, there is so much stuff streaming, that it's not worth it.
  • We use a combination of Hulu and Netflix and it's worked out great for us.
  • @chopchop25 One thing though, if you do cut the cord and decide to rely on Netflix, etc., make sure your internet package is really good. Definitely noticed a difference when we moved and got on a higher speed plan. DH has to have the best because god forbid he can't play WOW/counterstrike/whatever else 28 year olds apparently still play... :# So, we already had a "justification" for spending more on internet.
  • We gave up cable a few years back! We had sling TV first, but switched to PS Vue for the sports package.
  • We kept basic cable because internet was 75 or it was 80 a month for internet plus 30 channels. We have Netflix too. Couldn’t get any lower cuz both Dh and I work from home and has to be high speed connection. We already cut that last year, gotta find more things to cut for additional daycare expense.
  • @cdepperschmidt yeah, DH keeps trying to convince me to go to Vue, but lifetime is on Sling, so I've had a hard time switching....Fa la la la lifetime is my favorite time of year, so I don't like not having it. But recently the Hallmark movies have been better, and they crank out that shit year round! So perhaps Vue is a better option now...plus I'd get TLC back!
  • would love to get rid of a tv plan! We need fast internet and DH says it is our entertainment. We do enjoy a lot of TV shows and the price to get them through places where you pay per show or station didn't seem worth it. We love he recorder option to pick our shows and they are recorded when they are on and we watch when we have time, Lots of times the night they are on. Any services allow this that would save money over cable? I would love to cancel TV for a few months after baby is born and just watch netflix or online when we are conscious enough but not sure it is worth the hassle for a few months.
  • We use mainly Netflix. We also have a Firestick that might allow us to watch more than we should be able to. I honestly prefer Netflix over cable. I can choose what I want to watch instead of aimlessly browsing channels hoping something is good.
