WTF Wednesday

Re: WTF Wednesday

  • +1 for all the acne. UGH.  and i'm just in a crappy mood in general. I dont even know why.

  • I keep meaning to get into my chiro. I really should try and go this afternoon before we fly tomorrow. Last week I tried but she was out. My insurance covers adjustments and I believe massage, although I have to pay out of pocket until I hit my deductible.
  • I know it’s no longer Wednesday but I have a major wtf today. WTF to my secretary. I have been freezing in my office for weeks and I realized this morning she keeps coming in to my office and turning down my thermostat when I’m in a meeting or after I leave! She always complains about being hot even when it’s freezing in our office suite. Not my problem, get a bigger fan. I don’t want to freeze all day so respect my space and stay out of my office when I’m not in there! She has never even said anything about it when I’ve been literally sitting with my coat on...I checked it this morning and she turned it down to 60!! Ugh...

  • @spartan4life Kind of random, but is she maybe going through menopause?  If she is, maybe she doesn’t want to tell you the problem. I’d just let it go and turn the heat back up when you come back.

  • Did you confront her about it, @spartan4life? Because if so, that's insubordination, and you should probably write her up for not respecting your rules. And no, it's not even the least bit unreasonable to expect that a person not enter your locked office without permission.
  • edited April 2018
@spartan4life  Wow, yeah, that’s not cool.  I didn’t realize your door was locked (when I was working in an office, pretty much everybody left their doors unlocked unless they were working on a confidential project so that even the cleaning people were not allowed in).  That she seems to be lying about it is even worse, but before you accuse her, are you sure she is the person doing it?  Does anybody else have a key to your office? (Looking out for you with these questions, not trying to defend her - but if you accuse her and then it turns out to be somebody else, that will look bad on you.). If there’s no way it could be anybody else, definitely bring it up to her supervisors.  If you can’t be absolutely sure, maybe mention it to the office managers as somebody is doing this, not her specifically.

ETA and make it about entering your locked office, etc. not the office temp.  Everybody in our office used to fight over the office temp and it would get changed several times a day.  It got ridiculous.

  • @purplegoldfish2 That is what I am struggling with. I do not have proof that it is her. There are others in our office suite that have a key but they also have their own thermostats in their offices so I’m guessing it isn’t them. Plus she is the only one who complains about temperature. I agree that I should no go and accuse her, I plan to just have a conversation with her (not doing it today because I really want to think about it before I say anything). That is a good idea to mention it to the office manager and let her handle it with her staff. The secretary assigned to our office suite is the only one who sits in this space, all of the others sit in a separate office area across the hall. Thanks for all of your input!

  • WTF to my husband not having any paternity leave. One of the only times I wished we worked for the same company because we get 2 weeks family leave for SOs. I suppose I can't complain because I'm probably getting 10 weeks paid leave + whatever vacation I have left, but it's frustrating that he gets no leave!
  • @jemmerjams Yeah MH miiight have like 70 hours of PTO and that's all he will be able to take. We can't afford to have him out of work.
  • @jemmerjams He can take FMLA leave, it will just be unpaid. Since you get 10 weeks paid, it might be worth it. I only get 6 weeks paid STD, but I'm looking to take 10-12 weeks depending on how we save and have DH take 2 unpaid weeks.

@spartan4life That's super frustrating. Our office is always cold, but we can only adjust the temp 2* on either side. 60* would be FREEZING!
  • @jemmerjams MH had no paternity leave when our twins were born. He took a week vacation and then went back to work. It was harder for him than for me because these babies didn’t sleep at night and he had to function during the day while I got to lay around and sleep if I needed to.

  • @sammierose464 yeah, I think I mentioned that in passing to him, but idk if his ego will allow him to do that lol. On principle, he will probably refuse because he feels he shouldn't have to take unpaid leave for the birth of his kid, and I think you have to burn all your vacation before using anyway? (No one should have to, but that's another issue...) But definitely a good option to think about if we end up struggling for the first couple weeks and realize I need him home for an extra week or so.
  • @purplegoldfish2 I've heard that complaint from men a lot too! At least we get to sleep/nap during the day, they are going to have to work on the same lack of sleep!
  • DH get's zero PTO so he'll be taking a week off unpaid. I'll accumulate about 1 week of PTO before baby gets here and I didn't sign up for short term disability last fall. No paid maternity leave. I'd be terrified about all this, but I barely worked when pregnant with DS, didn't have PTO, and DH made a lot less. We got by. Now that we both make decent money, I'm hoping to save a little before #3 is here. We have a lot of debt though and it's hard to save, so we'll see....

  • ++ on the acne. I feel like I’m a teenager again and all the good products contain ingredients I can’t use while pregnant. I hate it so much and am so self conscious. Oh so glamourous. Tea tree oil and charcoal soap only does so much. Sigh.
  • @krzyriver will any of that change if you take the new job?

    @chyvie @purplegoldfish2 @tinattt23 @jynjer91

I loooove my chiropractor. I've been seeing him for 3 years. I initially went after 3 other chiropractors and 2 physical therapists couldn't help my lower back pain over a 10-year period and everyone (myself included) assumed I'd need some type of surgery.

It was so bad I couldn't run on a treadmill for 5 minutes without crawling off on my hands and knees in pain. If my friends went to a festival or carnival, I had to figure out how much walking would be involved because I couldn't walk more than 20 minutes without doubling over in pain. Not normal =/.

This chiropractor was definitely finally the right one for me. He diagnosed that my right hip was rotated forward and sitting out of place, resulting in a ton of pressure on my sciatic nerves. It just needed a treatment plan of slowly manipulating it back into place and then stretching and strengthening everything around it to hold it there. I opted for a treatment plan of 2x a week for 3 months. At the end, I was 80-85% better! It was a miracle to me. After the 3 months, I dropped to 2x a month which got me to 95% better and put me into maintenance mode. Now I go once a month just for a tune up! I do find I have more back pain again now that I'm pregnant but he's keeping an eye on my old problem spots and my monthly adjustments and chiro stretches def help!

  • I want to want donuts, but as I’m approaching second tri, my nausea is starting to take on a definite pattern - it is happening after I eat too many carbs.  I mean, yay for knowing and it’s probably a good thing that it’s after unhealthy foods instead of the healthy stuff, but it makes it difficult to snack or grab a quick meal, because even whole wheat cereal is iffy and cooking every morning while trying to wrangle 2 5-year-olds to eat and get dressed so I can get them to school is just not going to happen.

  • @pumpkinpancake @sarahzett

Last weekend, I was spending a day out with a friend.  He texted me an hour early saying he was ready to go, and I asked him if he wanted to get donuts with me, or if I should stop first.  Either way, I was definitely getting donuts.

And, yeah, they were totally worth it.

@purplegoldfish2 - I'm sorry carbs are rough for you! That's a bummer :(.  That's me with chicken right now, which sucks because that's our menu for dinners most nights. Doesn't matter how I try to hide it in my meals - looking at it, smelling it or tasting it and I'm in Nauseaville.

  • @knottieamusements @sarahzett there’s an awesome donut shop just down the hill from where I work, so I already decided that next week when it stops raining, I’m heading down there during my lunch hour to get donuts. Now if only it would stop raining sooner so I didn’t have to wait!

  • @ everyone talking about donuts

WTF why do I want a donut? Literally can't remember when I ate one last, probably been like 12 years (#glutenproblems). I don't really even like them but last weekend they looked soooooo good. And if I do manage to find a GF donut it's probably going to taste like ass.
  • edited April 2018
@sarahzett Thanks, I was the same way with my boys.  I just didn’t have any other kids & had a job then and I got up at the same time as my husband so he would cook my breakfast while I showered.   On the plus side, I can now handle raw beef smell again, so we’ll be eating real dinners again (instead of eggs and whatever else I can manage to throw together).

I’m pretty sure Paula’s Donuts in Buffalo ships their donuts.... definitely worth whatever they charge for shipping.

EDIT - never mind, I went to find their shipping info to post here and they no longer ship. Sorry!  :(

  • @purplegoldfish2 yay for beef haha. I'm glad you can have a nice dinner again.

And I agree it would be. I would kill for an east coast donut... or bagel... or slice of pizza right now. I love Colorado, but I will forever be a Jersey girl who is a total snob about her bread products haha

  • @sammierose464 I’d lose the one paid week that I do have coming. Wouldn’t get anything better. I ended up turning down the one job, although she wants me to call after baby so it’s still a possibility for later. The other job hasn’t called yet but I think the manager is on vacation this week. I’m not keeping my fingers on it anymore tho.

  • @sarahzett +1 for Jersey girl who cannot get good bread products elsewhere. Thank gosh this city does doughnuts well, but my mom mails us bagels and pizza is always first stop when we go back.

Also, I'm sure it probably still wouldn't hide it well enough, but we have an awesome recipe for diced up (like, very small) chicken + cheese and herbs stuffed in phyllo if you want to try that!
  • @purplegoldfish2 omg, I would die if I couldn't eat carbs...it's literally the only food group that doesn't make me nauseous right now!
  • @chopchop25 Every time anyone I know comes from Jersey to CO, I beg them to stuff their suitcase with bagels for me. I have had 3 people actually bring them back haha. And we do the same - last year's Jersey Shore trip was 70% for boardwalk food and 30% for the ocean lol

Yes please! I love phyllo dough and cheese haha. And I bet if i shred the chicken in the recipe it would help!

  • @sarahzett Buffalo was voted best pizza crust because of the water.  When my husband worked at a restaurant, one of the chefs went to a national food conference and they brought in water from all around the country and all the chefs made pizza using the different waters.  The Buffalo crusts won.

I tell that story, because you can get pizza delivered nationwide from one of our local pizza places (& I verified that one before saying it this time!)

  • @sarahzett you’re killing me today!! Now I want pizza and bagels too! As a girl born and raised in NYC, I severely miss good bagels and pizza since I moved out west. Luckily, my mom is the best and brings me bagels from NY every time she comes to visit, and she’s coming out here in two weeks!
  • @pumpkinpancake That's awesome she's bringing you some! My best friend went to NYU so I spent every weekend in my early 20s going out in NY, crashing at her apt and eating all the bagels and pizza (and drinking all the beer but that's a whole different topic haha).

  • @sarahzett haha I miss that area! I worked at NYU before I moved to jersey, and I loved all the food around there in walking distance for lunch. I’m going back to NY in May to visit my family, and I’m definitely planning to eat all the pizza! (I went to NY in January for my cousins wedding, and I may have brought back like 6 pieces of pizza on ice packs in my luggage. Somehow it was still good after a 6 hour flight... no shame...)
