Appointments w/o 3/26

Re: Appointments w/o 3/26

  • @calimom2524 right?!? I was expecting it, but damn was it way worse than I imagined! With both my c-section and my myomectomy, the only time I took a Percocet was when I had that damn gas pain.
What is the gas shoulder pain? My experience was 9 years ago so I don’t remember that.

Also I think I set myself up because I assumed I would just have another vaginal delivery, so that is what has made it difficult to except. With my daughter I was prepared to have a c section because they told me prior to my Myo. I even took the C section class. So when I didn’t I was quite the surprise.
  • @ssthomps it’s irritation that’s felt from the CO2 gas that hangs around in your abdomen after surgery. You can feel it in your chest or shoulder; with both of my surgeries I’ve felt it in my shoulder. The best thing to do is just walk and keep moving. I don’t remember it lasting for very long.

I know when I had my myomectomy, I felt it at 6am the morning after surgery so I just started walking around my room and the unit. It was gone within hours.

  • My doctor told me it's from the gas they have to put into you to get the clear picture or whatever while they're inside then the gas has no where to go so travels up and it hangs out in your shoulder until it dissipates.

  • I know what you all are talking about. Sadly I feel like since that surgery the gas has never left. I have had horrible gas since and was told it is because they pump you with it for the surgery. Definitely not lookin forward to more of that.
  • The gas pain is actually referred pain from irritation of your diaphragm by the gas. The same dermatome (or sensory level of your skin) that is fed by the same nerve levels as your diaphragm are where you feel the pain, which happens to be in your shoulder! As annoying as it probably is, I always think it's kind of interesting that you reliably get pain there even though the gas isn't actually "in your shoulder."

I LOVE having a doctor in here! Thank you! That's actually really cool.

  • @doctormom33 I had read about the nerve irritation after Googling but wasn’t sure if that was actually right so thanks for clarifying!

I had my a/s today and baby looks great but they had trouble getting a good view of his heart so I’ll have to go back in another week to try again. Also as of right now I have placenta Privia but they told me not to worry because I have 20 weeks for it to move, fingers crossed it does!

I am in the same boat (low lying placenta), so FX for both of them moving on up for us! Is your little guy breech as well? My OB said my LO probably wouldn't be able to flip around until my placenta moves out of the way.
