I have the BFF. It was smaller than I imagined, so I was a little surprised when it arrived but I really like it. It is COMFORTABLE to wear, the fact you can wear it as a backpack is awesome. It has tons of pockets for organization so even though it isn't huge I can see myself easily fitting what I need for new baby plus whatever bits and pieces toddler needs. I will still keep emergency supplies in my car but I am very happy with my purchase!
@kcdo1010 I have the BFF. It's small. If I had realized how small it was, I would not have bought it for the price. I am still using it, but I'm really struggling to see how we'll be able to use it for 2 kids. Hopefully by the time #2 arrives, DD will be completely done with bottles and need less stuff.
FML. I knew I needed new brakes because I have almost 70,000 miles on my car but it's going to cost over $800 because I need new rotors and all new lug nuts and I just want to cry. We are paying on this stupid car FOREVER because we really probably couldn't afford the dang thing when we bought it lol but come on. Damn it. At least I have the cash on hand but...WHY.
My dad said he'd do it for us but he doesn't even know how to work on my car and I'm iffy buying aftermarket brakes and rotors because I'm afraid they will wear out even faster. BLAH.

@Firemanswife11 ugh, that sucks I’m sorry. Our car needs so much shit done and it kills me when I think of all the other stuff that money could be spent on. Wahhh.
@Firemanswife11 I hate car stuff. I always feel like it’s wasting money, even though I know it’s not. I’d just rather be spending the money on something else!
@Firemanswife11 Here in solidarity! We just had the brakes done on our car a couple weekends ago that we are still paying on and I hated spending the money! That on top of the new car this past weekend, we are just pissing money away I feel like!
@Firemanswife11 Ugh! Yeah you've got cash on hand, but I'm sure it was ear-marked for something more useful/fun.
Sounds like someone should have told you what to look out/listen for when your brakes are telling you they are getting close to needing to be replaced, so you don't have to replace rotors/lugs and all that other expensive jazz. There's a metal shim thing imbedded in the pads that'll give off a high-pitched squeal when you're braking that lets you know it's time to replace them.
@Firemanswife11 I feel your pain. I just paid $300 for new tires, not including any installation costs yet. I only got 25000 miles out of the stock tires that came on the car. So annoyed with that. Those have to be the worst tires we’ve ever had on a vehicle.
I so feel you on the car stuff. Mine recently needed like $800 in brakes and then a month or so later, the alternator went so that was $600 addl. our cars are both fully paid off and OLD. Like mine has over 150k. DHs is less reliable though with battery drain issues so his will be replaced with the minivan this summer. Hoping we can hold off a little on buying or leasing another. It’s money that feels like it’s just wasted.
Um, I don't even want to talk about how much money we've spent on car things. Cars are DH's hobby, and it's an expensive one. Luckily, he does a lot of work himself to his car, and when he upgrades/replaces things it mostly comes from his budget. Last year he had to replace the motor on his car that was only a year old. Naturally, he decided it was a good time to upgrade it rather than replacing the stock motor.
I complain a lot about the limited maternity leave in the US and in my line of work, but sometimes I think a little perspective helps (see link if interested!).
@doctormom33 That's pretty horrific. Given my own infertility issues and the unpredictability of conception, I can't even imagine being told to wait my turn. But then again Japanese culture is very much about the "greater good of the public welfare" to the detriment of the individual.
Although, for me, I think the stinging nature of maternal care (and female reproductive care in general) in the US is exacerbated by the pervasive "right to life" and "family values" camps that shout the loudest, and it's anything but in my experience. But that's a rant for another day.

But in this case it’s a detriment to the common good, because their population is shrinking and it’s hurting the economy. That’s what’s frustrating. What’s better for the individual usually is better for the common good as well!
Man I would be screwed. With 2 out of my 3 pregnancies being unplanned and my one planned pregnancy completely up in the air when it could happen because I only have one fallopian tube I have no way of knowing when/if I can conceive! It's crazy to think someone's job can dictate when they can get married and/or have children. The culture differences around the world never cease to amaze me.

I think you are saying you are iffy buying non-OEM parts but that’s pretty standard with things like brakes. You’d be paying way to much to buy OEM parts. Any place like O’Reilly’s or Autozone has good parts.
Also. Idk what kind of car you have but $800 seems like a lot. Brakes and rotors haven’t changed much over the years, and if your dad has done it before, it shouldn’t be a problem. I change my own brakes and SO just replaced the rotors on his. I’ve never done rotors but he always does them. You will save sooooo much money doing them at home.

I drive a truck for work. My last set of tires was 2 grand. Lol. I know it’s apples and oranges but I would dance in jubilee for $300 for tires.
But I will say on every car I’ve ever bought, the stock tires were crap. Always. I love my Ford trucks but they put the crappiest street tires on them. They don’t last sixty days. And they look stupid. They don’t look like TRUCK tires. I feel the same about exhaust. I always make an appointment the same day I pick up my new truck to just go to muffler shop and replace it.
I was just telling SO we need to replace the stock tires that came on our new Enclave. We need a meatier Michelin. But we live in the country and do a lot of gravel roads. I don’t want to risk a flat with these puny little things.
@Firemanswife11 I hate car stuff. I always feel like it’s wasting money, even though I know it’s not. I’d just rather be spending the money on something else!
This is how I feel about groceries. Hahahahaha. I hate grocery shopping. So expensive. And a pain in the butt. And it just runs out in a few days. Gotta do it again. With our family about to grow to six, we need to go even more now. No. No. No.
Speaking of wasting money, the house we bought last tear has an older but functional kitchen. The stovetop is old bit fine for now, was hoping to wait to upgrade it. Well the knobs keep breaking and we are down to 1 knob now. So im kinda scared to use it and have it be stuck on. A new stove wasn’t on the radar but the parts seem to be obsolete bc it’s old. Yay.
My big cat sat on my husband's lap and stretched out to put his paw on my belly for an hour. He's been much more affectionate since I've been pregnant (he's usually a total daddy's boy), it's been very sweet.

@dirtanddiamonds PREACH about the sh*tty Ford tires! Mine lasted just under 30k miles and I've already put that many, plus, on the tires I bought last Thanksgiving (2016).
I used to work on my own cars (I built rock crawlers with my dad in high school) but I mostly just do house stuff now and appliance repair. I don't really feel like doing this pregnant and my dad is sooo iffy on when he's available. I'm afraid he'd wait way too long and then I'd need new front rotors, too.
I found a place that will do them for $489 out the door with amazing reviews, plus he's a huge supporter of the fire department, so I will probably take there. He's also open on Saturdays. Win.
@ecwk it's under tech specs - it says toddler seat/frame: suitable from 3 months to 50lbs.
Ugh I hate dealing with car stuff! Knock on wood my 1 year old car hasn't had issues, but before that I was driving my very first car, which was a 1997 infiniti - aptly nicknamed the grandma car - and it had over 100k miles on it when I got it at 16. It was a good car but the past few years I think we spent probably about 1k a year on repairs. It was terrible. Now DH's 5 year old Jetta needs something replaced (I'm not a car person in the slightest so I don't know what it's called, but it's something to do with his axle/wheel and its basically grinding on something else, so when he drives it is LOUD) and it'll be about $600. I wish car insurance was like health insurance and would cover things like this!

I went to the pharmacy for some prescriptions, and I got taken in by the Easter clearance sale. I now have a bunch of candy (which I rarely eat) and a stuffed rabbit for the nursery. Being sick and pregnant has made me far more impulsive than usual.

I’m already feeling kicks on the outside! DH said he thinks he felt them, too! It seems to early. I’m only 21 weeks today. But I had an anterior placenta last time. I can definitely tell a difference!
@derbysquirrel I somehow managed to avoid the candy aisle when I went to go get shampoo today. Very proud of myself.
And I'm remembering how much of a terrible control freak I am because my best friend and my cousin are starting to plan my shower and I've spent like two hours looking for potential venues.

Do any of you moms of older kids, aunts to older kids, or teachers have any children's book suggestions on private parts and/or personal space/touching others? DS1 apparently touched a girl's butt in the bathroom yesterday which prompted a good classroom discussion on personal space but I'd like to keep the communication on this going and read some books about it too. He seems to relate better when it can be illustrated for him so if I can find the right book(s) to read with him that would be awesome. I've searched amazon but there's so many options I don't know which to choose.

Oh man. I echo everyone else who hates car stuff. I hate hate hate spending money on cars. H needs a new one soon, and we are loathing having 2 car payments. Yuck.
I too went to raid the discounted Easter candy today - but my local grocery store didn't have any Cadbury eggs! WTAF. I was so upset. I need to stock up!
@dirtanddiamonds I may regret the $300 tires. The auto center we’ve always used for tires closed last year, and I haven’t had much luck calling the small business auto places in the area. They either assume I’m an idiot about my car and try to sell me cheap tires for $$$, or they tell me to make an appt and come in for a quote. First, I’m not taking a day off to drive to multiple garages for quotes on tires. Second, after teaching teenagers all day, I don’t have the patience to deal with mechanics who assume I’m a dumb girl when it comes to my car.
I bought a set of nice Hankooks from Walmart’s website for $75/tire. They’re over $100 everywhere else, and they’re similar to the tires on my old car that held up extremely well for me. Now I’m just hoping I’ll get lucky at the Walmart tire center next week and get someone who actually does the job correctly.
I’m stumped on what to make for dinner. I want to make something that’s on the healthier side, but also easy to prepare. Would anyone be up for starting a recipe sharing thread?
