  • @ecwk Glad you're going right for the twin bed, I think that's a wise choice!

@lalala2004 No advice since this is #2 for us, too! But curious on the answers! I am having a repeat c/s, so our plan is to have my parents at our house, so a bag wouldn't be necessary.... but if this one is anything like his brother, my water will break 3 weeks early and throw us all for a loop! That's my biggest fear at this point because we have no family in the area (closes is 2.5hrs away) to watch DS and with a repeat c/s there isn't a long labor or a lot of time between labor starting and delivery!
I will probably have a list at least planned of what he'll need in case that does happen so I can throw it together quick, or someone else knows what to grab.

Age(s) of other kid(s)? 4 in May and 18 months

How are you feeling??? Tired. But mostlynover the sickness finally!

Rants/Raves: pregnancy insomnia started last night...oh joy.

    Questions:
@lalala2004 if your kiddo isn’t staying at your house when you leave I’d maybe get some extra things for them packed a head of time. From my experience my births haven’t been so fast we didn’t have time to do things but everyone has a different experience!

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now?
DS1 is really into cars and trucks and dinosaurs and dancing. I just signed him up for an dance Ariel themed camp this summer. Hopefully he likes it!
DS2 is into whatever his brother wants lol

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @lalala2004 when I had DS I packed DD a bag ahead of time with basics (underwear, socks, pjs, etc.) and then when I went into labor I just threw in some clothes and her toothbrush. I waited to put in clothes for the same reason you stated, she didn’t have many spare. It only took a min to add those things since most of the bag was already packed. This time I’ll do the same for both of their bags since they will be staying at my moms.
  • How far along are you? What size is baby

    22 weeks, coconut

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?

    5 next week , waaaahhhhh

    How are you feeling???

    Ginormous and awkward.

    Rants/Raves

Being ginormous, awkward at work LOL.  My rave though is my boss is awesome and she said whenever I need to start flexing my schedule to work from home more because of my pain, she is open to different ways to do it.

    Questions
I am curious for anyone that this is your third + kid, were you more anxious about going into labor with the second just because you had more knowledge than the first time?  For instance, I am already panicking about going into labor at 37 weeks or earlier, since I did with DS.  I know to have more stuff prepped this time, but still.

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now?

Still pretty into Monster Jam and any trucks/cars.  DH got him his own set of legit golf clubs so they do that and he is loving basketball right now as well - he could play for hours in the driveway.  I'm so glad it's starting to get a little nicer out to where he can do that.  Also, arts and crafts.
  • How far along are you? What size is baby? 21w5

Age(s) of other kid(s)? My oldest turns 7 Saturday! Then 5 and 2.5

How are you feeling??? TIRED. I have a sugar headache lingering from easter too.

Rants/Raves my ils are visiting fri - tues. the relationship with them is rocky and their visits have been great sometimes (for the kids at least) and AWFUL others. So the uncertainty is hard. And I need to work on cleaning too which, see above. TIRED.

    Questions

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now? My oldest is a big reader, loves legos and imaginative play with his brothers. Lacrosse was supposed to start today (but cancelled bc still snow on the fields)

my youngest is very into batman, Dino’s, legos, magnatiles. They play great together

  • @lalala2004 I'm not exactly sure where DD is going to be when I'm in the hospital. I think I'm going to pack a bag either way so in case my mom or mil decide to take her to their house, they can without issue.

How far along are you? What size is baby?
    20+1. Banana.

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    3 in June

    How are you feeling???
    Pretty good this week. Famished.

    Rants/Raves
DD and DH have off for spring break together, and mine was taken away to make up for all of our snow days. So they are doing story time and the zoo, while I'm at work.

    Questions
We are having a really difficult time with DD listening and following instructions these days. We are pretty strict with behavior, but still give her warnings because she's so young. We talk about being a good/bad listener, emotions, etc. She gets time outs or toys taken away for not following instructions. Any tips?

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now?
Letters. She can identify most letters, and can identify and mostly spell her name.
Pretend play. She loves her picnic set and play food.
    Reading. She loves 'reading' books.
  • How far along are you? What size is baby?
21w5d, no idea how big that should be.

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    7yo

    How are you feeling???
Crappy. MS is back. I have a headache, feel generally sore, and allergies are getting bad. Missing my Advil allergy + sinus.

    Rants/Raves
DS & I are out running errands in the rain bc it’s the last day of spring break. I do not have the patience for other people or for DS right now. Thank goodness we both go back to school tomorrow.

    Questions Nope

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now?
Soccer, Cub Scouts, Legos, Nerf guns, Minecraft.
  • lalala2004 I'm not much help. We couldn't get someone to watch L when we left, so he came with us. As soon as we were admitted, we got my dad on the road. However, E was faster than her grandpa (200 miles away), so L and H stayed in the waiting room while E vacated.

@scottishlass1213  I had a lot of PTL that had to be stopped. So by the time it wasn't PTL I was just so ready to get her out that it didn't matter. This time around, I am very nervous. L was an unplanned induction turned cs, E was a super fast labor once we were far enough to not be stopped. Now I am terrified that my water will break, and I won't have enough time to reach the hospital before R pops out.

How far along are you? What size is baby?
    22w, Coconut

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    L is like 2.75 and E is almost 1.5

    How are you feeling???
Tired. I can't seem to get caught up on sleep.

    Rants/Raves
I haven't been around much. Between work, softball, and 2 toddlers I don't have much down time.

    Questions
Those of you who have had an anterior placenta, do you feel movement like everywhere else but a hand-spread place?
I can feel kicks and stuff everywhere but about the size of my spread out hand around my belly button. Its weird.

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now? L is loving his nerf guns, he also has learned 'ROOOOOOAAARRR' then he pokes the baby. Its pretty stinkin' cute.
E has learned the word 'NO!' complete with foot stamp. So anything she can express disapproval over, she does. She also seems to be fascinated with stuffed animals. We have over 4, large (3+ feet tall) ones that we constantly have to pull out of her bed so that she has room to sleep.

  • Kid bag: I did. I mean you can’t pack everything but I had a special outfit I wanted them to wear to meet the baby, so that was packed, plus a set of pjs, overnight diapers as needed, clean undies for daytime (or diapers).

I knew l I wasn’t likely to go super early so I did it at like 38w same as my bag. I had a ‘last minute list’ for me and kid, stuff like for them - toothbrush, special stuffed animal or 2, whatever stuff we couldn’t live without and needed to grab. I also was good about laying out their clothes the night before.

with my third (and this one I’m sure) my mom just came to our house to sleep, easier with more kids that way and we had a nice air mattress set up. I went into labor at night so she just came here. Before the baby was born I emailed her their schedule, school pickup and drop off instructions, code for the school, what day they had what activities, etc. I imagine we’ll leave her the keys to our future minivan too since her can may not fit all 3.

  • @7425cait  DS is somewhat regressing and acting out I think now that I am further along.  I am not good at following through with threats but I have really had to lately and it kills me, but I know he needs it.  For instance, yesterday morning he wanted to come home and paint after school. I said okay as long as he is good, listens and doesn't whine.  Sure enough he comes home whining about playing basketball.  DH literally plays with him for an hour and then epic tantrum because he had to come in for dinner.  So no paints.  He threw a fit at dinner - I made him go sit on the couch until he calmed down.  He finished eating and we talked about it. I hope he really understands because he wants to do it today, so we'll see.
  • @7425cait We have been struggling a bit with DS, too, and he's only a month apart in age. He's mostly a great kid, but he has his moments with listening ears and just straight up ignoring instructions, or throwing a tantrum if I threaten to take something away. It happens at school, too. We talked to his teachers and they said that positive reinforcement and incentives for good behavior tend to work better than taking things away. When you take something away it sucks, but they also have other things to play with or do. He got a pez dispenser from my parents for Valentine's day he is obsessed with, so that's his incentive. When he uses listening ears and behaves at school 'the pez grow'. If he gets bad notes home or doesn't listen, the pez stays empty. We've been doing this a few weeks now, and although he still has rough days, he has had quite a few good ones and is so happy when he gets his pez. Also, when he doesn't have a good day he understands they don't grow, etc. Probably not the best parenting technique, but it is working better in place of taking away his tablet or toys!

  • How far along are you? What size is baby? 23 weeks. Size of a grapefruit

    Age(s) of other kid(s)? 2-almost 3.

How are you feeling??? Tired. Huge. Good other than that!

    Rants/Raves
My favorite is when DS says, “kiss the baby?” And then he gives my stomach a kiss. He also now follows the question with always because my response is, “you can always kiss the baby.”

I hate potty training. He wanted to wear underwear to school today and I’m so nervous about it.

Questions I don’t really have any but was glad to read the question about packing a bag for the older kids.
I’m kind of hoping whatever family member watches him will just stay here because we’ll need someone to take care of the dog too. The hospital is close though, so DH could come home & do it if necessary. Thanks for asking that @lalala2004

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now?
DS loves books and reading. He also loves going to the park and has been asking to go swimming in our pool, but the water is still too cold. He is also into Thomas the train and trains in general.
  • @scottishlass1213 I’m only slightly nervous about it going super fast and not making it. My first labor was less than 12 hours from first contraction go DS arriving which seemed pretty fast for a first baby. I hear they tend to get faster after that. I just won’t take my time getting to the hospital!

  • @lalala2004 I am mostly worried about my water breaking again.  With DS, it was in the early morning so I was at home, but what if I am at work this time?!? LOL
  • How far along are you? What size is baby? 20w4d baby is a banana, I think.

    Age(s) of other kid(s)? 3 and 5

How are you feeling??? Overall pretty good. My hips get really sore if I do too much walking which sucks because I still hike on the weekends.

Rants/Raves: My kids have been pretty awesome lately. DS2 is the sweetest, cuddliest, happiest 3 year old that ever lived and just brings so much joy to everyone around him.

    Questions: Is it August yet?

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now? They are mega into the outdoors right now. Bike riding, scootering, skateboarding, hiking, the park, etc. If it's outside, they're happy with it. It makes me feel like I'm doing something right that my kids constantly want to be outside; I feel like they've been on their ipads so much I've ruined them. They also both love art of any kind, painting, coloring, play doh, crafts. All of the art!

    How are you feeling???
Physically, feeling great. Emotionally, not so hot. I looked back at my pregnancy journal from the first kiddo and weeks 19-25 were the same way.

    Rants/Raves
I get so hangry I can't stand it. Cried in the bathroom at work today because I was hungry. Couldn't get myself together enough to go get food so I just sat in there for 10 min.

    Questions
    none

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now?
ELMO, elmo, elmo, elmo and Pizza. He woke up this morning and the first word out of his mouth....pizza....followed by elmo.
  • I'm definitely feeling more anxiety this time around. My induction was awesome last time so I don't know why I have my doubts this time... That and the idea of leaving DS (we've never spent a night away from him) is giving me panic attacks.

For the kiddo go bag - That's an awesome question! I don't have any advice because this is baby 2 but maybe when we start a hospital bag thread we can start a kid bag thread? Like @pghctwife's suggestion for an outfit for the kiddo to meet new baby, never would have thought to pack something special for DS to wear and I love that idea!

  • @pghctwife - aw! really?!? That is just too cool!

The hospital I was born at has a button that the new dad pushes as soon as the baby is born. It's one of those 'Easy' buttons from the commercial and in the room it says 'Well, that was easy!' but it plays the lullaby song over the intercom. Easy my ass. I want a big brother / sister button!

  • @lalala2004 I personally wasn’t planning on having a bag packed for DS. We’re supposed to have a scheduled c-section but even if we weren’t I feel like I wouldn’t add that to my list of things to do. Mine and DH’s mom both have the keypad code to our house and know where everything is so they can handle packing him up if need be.

@lolog531 I’m in the same boat and just not fully embracing my pregnancy body. Poor DH has been so neglected because I’m just feeling so ‘bleh’! I’m hoping I can force myself to the gym and maybe I’ll perk up!

@scottishlass1213 I’m only a STM but DS was premature at 34 weeks and even though I’m being monitored more and on progesterone, I’m nervous for it to happen again. He was an emergency c-section under general so I’m nervous about having to do the epidural this time!

@7425cait Janet Lansbury has a great book about toddler discipline that I’m currently reading! It’s helped us get away from using timeouts so much. You can find a lot of great info on her Facebook page too. Three has been the toughest year for us so far, ugh.

How far along are you? What size is baby? 21+1, an endive (which keeps making me think of that commercial with the lady trying to be all fancy saying “it’s pronounced ahn-deev)

Age(s) of other kid(s)? Four on the 30th! (excuse me while I sob)

How are you feeling??? Tired still, but overall feeling like I have a bit more energy. Not as much physical discomfort like I had with DS.

Rants/Raves: Despite missing the holiday, it was a great weekend at work! Looking forward to some time with DS now! We’re taking him to the Baltimore aquarium next week and staying overnight!

Questions: Anyone else going over the recommended amount of caffeine? I’m usually pretty good during the weeke but when I’m night shift I feel like all I drink is coffee!

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now? Super into Lucas the Spider videos (which I am now addicted to) and Super Mario. He’s been wanting to ride his tricycle a lot so I’m excited to give him a bike for his birthday!
  • @mrs_drc_rn wait so do you live near Baltimore or are you coming here just for the aquarium??? I live very near hahahah
  • How far along are you? What size is baby? 22 weeks tomorrow, coconut.

    Age(s) of other kid(s)? DS is 3

How are you feeling??? Good! I've been having migraines again which sucks, and I had one yesterday, but today I'm feeling good and happy and much better.

Rants/Raves: 3 year olds are infuriating and adorable at the same time. He says and does the cutest things but man is it frustrating sometimes. My temper is a hell of a lot shorter when I'm pregnant than it normally is, so I've had to really try to control myself when he does certain things. I really can't wait to see him as a big brother though. He's so excited every time I talk about it.

    Questions: Nope

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now? Trolls, Monsters Inc, letters (he insists that the ABCs is his favorite song), dancing, having me ask him questions (when we're in the car sometimes I'll ask him what his favorite _____ is and he looooooves that. He'll say "Mommy, tell me more "what's your favorites" again!" when I'm done). He's HUGE into playing pretend right now too, so he plays restaurant, pretends bergens or monsters are chasing him, and the best is that he will act out movies while they're playing on the tv now. So funny.

I'm definitely going to have an outfit picked out for when DS comes to meet his brother, I already have a couple of "big brother" shirts for him. I know he'll be really excited and proud to wear it, so it'll be special. Assuming I make it to my induction/c-section, my mom will be coming in town and staying at our house with DS while I'm in the hospital, so luckily she knows where everything is and DS's schedule since she's our usual babysitter.

I definitely want to put my own bag together sooner rather than later because of what happened last time with me going in and ending up on hospital bed rest for 5 weeks! I hope hope hope that I don't have to go through that again.

  • @scottishlass1213 we’re a few hours away in the Philadelphia suburbs. We’re going to check out the kids museum while we’re down there as well, but I’d love to hear any recommendations you might have!
  • @mrs_drc_rn are you doing the Science Museum or Port Discovery? How olds your little one again?
  • @scottishlass1213 we were planning on doing Port Discovery. DS will be four on the 30th.
  • @scottishlass1213 we were planning on doing Port Discovery. DS will be four on the 30th.

  • @scottishlass1213 any must-visit restaurants?! I’m dying for some legit crab cakes!
  • @mrs_drc_rn now we don’t go into Baltimore to eat too much and when we do it’s in the Harbor East part of the harbor because I used to work at the Four Seasons there. Oceannaire is yum but maybe more of a date night place.  I’ve heard Phillips is good, the Rusty Scupper. You probably won’t want to venture out of Baltimore but G+M restaurant has one of the best rated. An Orioles game is also always fun but sounds like you have a lot planned!

    20 and 4

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    2 and a few months

    How are you feeling???
    Pretty good!

    Rants/Raves
DS was very upset to come home from the library with his dad and find that I was already home.  He screamed at me for several minutes to go away and come back later.  So that was fun.  He got over it pretty quickly when he was done.  I think he's going through a phase where he doesn't handle surprise or anything that is contrary to his expectations.  He also threw a fit this morning when I went into his room and he asked for his pacifier and I told him it was behind him in his crib.  He screamed and threw the pacifier on the floor.

He is being super sweet about the pregnancy, though.  I don't think he understands what's happening yet, but when I ask him what's inside Mom's belly he says "growing".  And then I ask what's growing, he says "baby".  He also talks a lot about being a big brother.

    Questions
Where do your kids sleep when you travel?  We visit my parents about once a month, and they have a mini crib that DS sleeps in.  But DS is seriously outgrowing it, so we promised him a bigger bed on our next visit.  But we're not sure what to get. It should pack up when not in use, and when my sister is visiting at the same time, he sleeps in our room, which is really small.  He still sleeps in a (full size) crib at home, but I think we're going to convert it to a toddler bed in the next couple of months.

GTKY: What is/are your kid/s interested in right now?
My kid is crazy into letters, too.  He likes to name them when he sees them, and he tries to write them.  He also likes Winnie the Pooh and Elmo a lot right now.
  • @Secretstapler We just make up a bed on the floor with lots of blankets and pillows for DS. We’ve tried a Regalo cot and a twin air mattress, and DS rolled off of both multiple times. He always moved so much that it was impossible to keep him in any kind of a travel bed.

That being said, I have several friends who have used twin mattresses and Regalo cots for their kids with no issues.
  • We have a cot and a sleeping bag. She used to go in the pack n play, but it's getting a little bulky to cart around. My mom converted one of her guest rooms into the little kid room. She put in two twin beds for DD and my neice. So they sleep in those when we're there.
  • @lalala2004 If you wanted to pack for DS, the easiest thing would probably be to buy new clothes specifically for the visit, as you said DS doesn’t have a ton of extra ones.

I think it also comes down to what labor is like for you. If you have a longer early labor or have a planned c-section/induced, it’s a lot easier to prepare because you have at least some sense of time on your hands.

With DS, my cervix was very favorable for weeks prior to DS’ arrival, so my body didn’t do the early labor thing for hours to signal me. Instead, my water broke and I barely made it to the hospital before I went straight into active labor.
  • @lalala2004 that's a good question that I hadn't even thought of yet. Lol. We have family that lives close so maybe I will just have them come over to the house.

@secretstapler Usually I just have him sleep in our bed. He hardly moves and I actually sleep better that way. He's pretty resilient and goes back to his bed by himself when we get home, no problem. But I realize that may not be the norm and I'm probably no help lol.

How far along are you? What size is baby? 20 weeks, 5 days.

    Age(s) of other kid(s)? 3.5

How are you feeling??? Great, mostly. Back is starting to hurt a little bit and I have gained a bit too much weight but come on. We had Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, my birthday, vacation and Easter this pregnancy! Of course I have eaten a lot. Lol.

Rants/Raves Well this is both a rant and rave. This baby is SOOOO active. I feel like I am constantly being kicked and some of it hurts. This is going to be a long 20 weeks, lol.
