  • I wear no makeup, and live in yoga/athletic/comfortable clothes. But low-maintenance is my game; I haven't been to a barber/salon since 2009, can count the pairs of shoes I own on one hand, and my seasonal wardrobe fits into a laundry basket with the off-season stuff in a duffel bag in the closet. My job requires a uniform, which I actually prefer, and definitely is not a professional enough environment for make-up to be expected. Not crunchy, just lazy and have other things I'd rather spend money/time/energy on than looking "good" to other people's standards--especially since we don't do much in the way of events/fancy outings/etc. I literally go from the house to work to the grocery store and back, with occasional trips to the library or a coffee place. Most things we do for fun involve camping or exploring outside, and I don't care if the bears and deer see me disheveled!
  • My perspective is that if you put thought into your clothes, accessories, etc. to look nice and polished, your face and hair should have the same courtesy. It’s more of a polishing thing for me. FWIW, men don’t wear makeup but I generally feel the same about their finishing work (run a comb through your hair, put some cologne on, whatever).

The way Americans write the date / the way that the date is written in America is dumb. So illogical.
29/3/18 makes way more sense than 3/29/18.

I totally agree. I have gotten used to writing the date out as 2018-03-29 for legal pleadings/etc. (because then they are sooo easy to store and find by date) and it makes me realize how dumb 3/29/2018 is.

  • Glitter wrapping paper: I still have glitter in my car from freaking Christmas. My mom wrapped our gifts in glitter paper, and the glitter got all over everything. It was all over our clothes and the the gift boxes that went into my car to go home. It’ll be in my car until around May, when the weather will hopefully then be nice enough for me to drag the Dyson up to the garage and clean out the car.

I told my dad he should go through her wrapping paper stash and burn anything with glitter.
  • @calimom2524 I think of makeup as a way to enhance your natural beauty, much the same as why women would curl their hair. Not to cover anything up necessarily but to highlight your features. For instance, no eye makeup is fine, whatever, but if you curl your eyelashes and throw on a tiny bit of mascara, it can instantly make your eye color stand out more. Why wouldn’t someone want to highlight something like that, especially when it only takes one minute?
  • @juliebird6 When mascara gives you very watery eyes and a runny nose all day, you probably wouldn’t wear it.

Glitter never goes away. I can't bring myself to use it in my kindergarten classroom.
Also not a fan of actual pajamas in public. There are so many comfortable options that look more public-appropriate IMO.
Leggings are life. With long shirts/tunics/sweaters, they are comfy and cute.
I am much more likely to side-eye someone wearing a ton of makeup than someone wearing none. But obviously people should just wear the amount that they like best.

AFM, I don't understand the annual hype about the Peeps marshmallow things. I didn't like them as a kid either. I'll take all the mini Reese's instead.
  • I like makeup and I even have this fascination with watching some of the youtube beauty bloggers (although I hands down think they wear too much makeup), but I don’t feel like I *should* wear makeup. I wear it on a daily basis to work, and I really enjoy putting it on for going out. I find it fun to experiment with colors and things like that. At the same time though, I don’t like how I’ve fallen into this habit of putting makeup on for the weekend when I’m just running to the grocery store or wherever. Why do I feel like it’s necessary to wear foundation just to run errands? And thinking about raising a little girl, I want her to always feel comfortable in her own skin and not feel like she has to wear makeup to be considered pretty or put together.
  • Definitely not trying to argue about it! Agree to disagree.
  • Peeps are disgusting
  • We used to microwave our peeps so they would get gigantic and scary looking. The mess was something else though.

  • My UO is I don't get people that buy workout clothes to wear as "athleisure" and then don't actually work out.  I have a TON of workout clothes but you won't really spot me in them out in public unless I am at the gym or running a very quick errand before/after.
You obviously don't live in LA hahaha. This is so damn standard here, and while it kind of annoys me, during this pregnancy, yoga pants are the only thing that's comfortable to wear all day, so I've often been going out in them, but with a maternity shirt on top. I also always make sure my but tis covered. Can't stand seeing people's thongs or butt cracks when their pants/leggings are see through.

+1 on hating MCM posts, expecting DH to share kid duties no matter his schedule, and wearing pjs in public.

I'm of the "do whatever makes you feel best" camp, and for me, that's light makeup, mainly just to make me look less tired lol. I can do my daily makeup in 5 minutes - just moisturizer, under eye concealer, concealer on a few blemishes, subtle eyeshadow, and mascara. If I'm going out for a date night or somewhere special, I'll do some foundation, powder, and blush, but that's about the extent of it. I feel totally naked without mascara and will wear it every day even if I'm not leaving the house. That's the only necessity though.

Peeps have been my favorite since childhood.

I feel like I have a Stockholm Syndrome relationship with glitter. I love it, but I feel like it's because it has tricked me to do so.

  • Omg yes Cadbury eggs with creme are nasty too hahaha. I like the regular tiny hard chocolate ones with the crispy shell.
  • Also, makeup either way I don’t care about. However at least realize when you have the foundation line that isn’t blended into your neck!

I wish I was better at makeup though. I feel like I have stuff on but it doesn’t look that way haha.
  • obsessed with those Robins Eggs easter candys that taste like whoppers.  Yummylicious.  Hopefully the easter bunny brings me some
  • I really like to wear makeup and I like how I look in it better than my natural face, but I’m lazy so I don’t wear it unless we’ll be around a crowd/people I know.

I do always think about how people don’t think men need it to look attractive, but they think women do—I hate this double standard.
  • I hate the double standard but also like that I am able to use makeup, I feel bad for DH whenever he has a breakout or eye bags and feels like he can't cover them. There is a lot of interesting literature on makeup in the workplace - wearing none is seen as not trying/not caring enough to make yourself presentable, whereas wearing too much is seen is trying to skate by on good looks alone - super frustrating knowing where the line is and how to tow it (and even having to deal with that biased crap). I think I've mentioned that I have eyelash extensions because they allow me to be lazy and skip eye makeup/eye makeup removal, but otherwise I have never and would never come to the office without it for fear of appearing like I don't care (or, god forbid, like I am actually tired from working 60+ hours a week and can't "hang" with the younger non-pregnant workaholic associates).

  • I love to wear makeup and think it enhances my natural beauty. However, when I don’t wear it people usually don’t notice. I hate lipstick though because my lips are naturally very pink. People have argued with me about whether or not I was wearing lipstick and I’ve had to wipe my lips with my finger to prove I’m not lying. I don’t have an opinion on whether or not others wear it. Whatever.

Leggings are only pants if your ass is covered. I do not need to see panty lines or worse, your panties through your translucent leggings.

In the same vein, just because they make it (clothing or whatever) in your size doesn’t mean you should wear it.

I love cadbury eggs. Peeps are pretty good. Malted milk eggs can burn in hell.

My UO is that "trigger warnings", the way they are commonly used on the internet, are stupid. I'm intimately familiar with PTSD, and the fact that people care enough to try is nice, but just saying "trigger warning" before whatever is not helpful to anyone I actually know who has triggers.

First of all, you must state what the trigger warning is for. Triggers can be virtually anything, so how do I know if this may be triggering for me unless you inform me as to what the potential trigger is?

Second, while there are a few pretty common triggers, such as fireworks and cars backfiring for those who have been in a war zone, or graphic pictures of abuse for survivors, most triggers are pretty specific to the individual. A certain smell that is associated to a specific time or place, or the opening lick to a song that played while you were raped, for example. There is no good way to predict what may trigger a panic attack in an individual.

It seems to me that online most "trigger warnings" are really just notice of less than cheerful subject matter, and probably done more for the conscience of the author, rather than the benefit of the audience. I think it comes from a good place, and perhaps they do more good than I am aware.

@derbysquirrel what topics do you consider merely “less than cheerful”? I’m genuinely curious...the only TWs I ever see are on my mom groups and are to do with loss or potential loss/injury/abuse/tragedy and while a TW would never stop me from reading something, I think for other people in these particular groups, a TW for those types of topics makes sense and is appreciated.

  • I do agree that there are a lot of trigger warnings that are weird to me. Mostly it’s in one specific Mom group I’m in on FB and I always side eye them, but I think most of them used here make sense. I used one earlier, stated what it could trigger, then put it in the spoiler box. As someone who has gone through a pretty traumatic thing regarding a child injury, I’d prefer to not read other stories, so I appreciate a warning.

My groups are basically all mom type groups so they are the same, which I appreciate. I joke that motherhood has made me soft but it’s true.. and the since my losses on top of it I just hate reading stuff about kids being abused, dying, late term loss, etc. I will avoid clicking through.

Im in one group that doesn’t warn at all and then it’s like that is the one thread that pops up no matter what you are doing. I know it can be cathartic for people to share that stuff but if you are just in a fb group for kid clothes it may not be what you want or expect to see kwim

@pghctwife and also when someone does a TW on FB and posts the story in the comments, it doesn’t always not appear. It happened today in my BMB - someone posted an awful awful story but it appeared in its entirety on my page and was not hidden at all!

  • @7425cait @scottishlass1213 I know you can't see me now, but know this southern girl is gasping and clutching her pearls.  Cadbury eggs are my favorite candy on the planet ever. I love to wait til after Easter and buy them when they're like 10 cents a piece.
My birthday is in late April and one year my brother got me 108 cadbury eggs. I put them in the freezer and ate them for a year. :)

I'm team 'Do your face however you want, and I'll do mine however I want' - Usually I wear light makeup for work and nothing on the weekend.

Leggings are hella comfy and totally allowed in public - provided your rear is covered.
