@JennyColada MH was able to do the sample at home the first few times as well, but with our new RE he has to do it there. I was worried at first, but he had no problem. They...ahem... had materials in the room
@suzycupcake the actual procedure was fine. it was quick and just slightly uncomfortable. Then they set a kitchen timer and told me "when it goes off you're free to go".
@jrm_14 well, despite his lack of a good bedside manner, glad you found someone that you are comfortable with and have some treatment options.
@JennyColada like others have said if you live close enough to the RE's office he may be able to collect the sample at home. Glad you like the RE. Are you going in for u/s? blood work? both?

@kobrien827 My first RE appointment was a little over an
hour, but the appointment time depends on what kind of treatment options you
are discussing, what testing you need/have had done, etc.
@50Wife I’m so glad your RE is being really careful to give
you the best results possible, but I hear you on being frustrated with the time
the mock cycles take! Fx this cycle gets the timing perfect.
@purplg8r So sorry for the BFNs. That first IUI cycle was
the worst for me because I got my hopes up so much. *hugs*
@Augusta108 So glad your father is going to be ok!
@JennyColada Sorry for the argument with YH, but I’m glad
you like your RE!
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Trying on our own, and waiting on the results on the repeat SA and sperm penetration assay
How are things going?: I'm feeling a lot better this week. I'm seeing my new therapist for the second time this afternoon, and I'm looking forward to that. MH and I are going out of town for a couple of days tomorrow, and it'll be nice to just get away for a bit. Assuming the SA and penetration assay results are at least decent, we'll be trying a fourth IUI next cycle, as well as starting to find out more information about IVF and financing.
Any questions?: Has anyone going through IVF qualified for one of those programs clinics have where you get your money back (or some of it at least) if none of the transfers work? Also, what are all of your thoughts on paying for one of those three cycle package deals vs. paying per IVF cycle?
GTKY:
What thing (or things) bring you joy? (if you had to create a "joy
list" to carry around as a reminder what would be on your list?)
MH, of course My kitties My job Good food Fun socks
@darkstar42 I’m pleased you’re feeling better this week and you have some days away coming up.
I didn’t qualify for the money back programs initially due to low AMH and now further proven with my appalling response to stims. I think your AMH was not low, so you might qualify. Typically they are not the cheapest programs per cycle, and if you are successful on the first cycle you’ll have overpaid. But if you take until the last cycle in each package to be successful then it’s a good deal.
However we will now do a 3 cycle package which has 3 retrievals and one FET included. But that’s because it supports our embryo banking approach - and hopefully will stop me from caving at the last minute and demanding a fresh transfer!
I probably wouldn’t have gone for any package for the first cycle, just until you know how you respond to stims and to see if that first transfer is successful. But with your IUI response history you have more info than I had as I went straight into IVF. Then again your IUI stim history might disqualify you for some of them.
Oh and you will have a PM in two minutes...

Fav Quote: The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return
@darkstar42 I know they have an age cut-off at many clinics, I know you're AMA, but not sure of your age. With my last clinic, I had to START the IVF process by the time I was 37 to qualify (and I didn't pay too much attention to the terms because I knew I wasn't going to start before I turned 38). My new clinic hasn't given me any information on a shared risk program - I don't know if that's because they don't have one, or I'm too old for it
*lurking from TTCAL* @darkstar42 There is a pretty good write-up on Fertility IQ about guarantee programs: https://www.fertilityiq.com/cost/ivf-refund-and-package-programs They are pretty skeptical of them so I think it's a good dose of reality. Their thought process is if you qualify you probably don't need the program. At the same time, most people who are successful through a guarantee program, even if on their first cycle, do not seem to regret paying more. *TW I actually met a mom recently who had her twins with the help of IVF and had participated in the guarantee program eta - at my clinic. She was successful on her first cycle, so yes, she "overpaid" by about $9k for one cycle of IVF. But she didn't regret it end TW* My clinic's program is basically the same cost as a two cycle IVF package (excluding meds, PGS, and anesthesia), but includes up to three cycles (you have to transfer all healthy embryos before moving to another cycle) and you are guaranteed a live birth or you get your money back (women need to be under 38 and men have to have a certain sperm count). My RE thinks that I would get 1-2 PGS normal embryos per cycle, tops. Your RE might be able to estimate that for you as well based on your AMH, etc.
When I inquired about the program with the financial people at my clinic I was told I was ineligible because of my RPL, but when I sat down with my RE she said if we wanted to do the guarantee program she and the other RE would sit down and discuss my file and decide together if I could do it. We have decided to request entry into the guarantee program, even though it might mean we may end up with no banked embryos for a second child, at our April IVF consult. I think it will reduce my stress to know that if we get no healthy embryos the first cycle, we can keep going without having to pay more. We'll see if they let us do it or not. It's definitely a hard decision to make, especially when you are AMA.
@emmasemm Thanks so much for the information! I do have relatively high AMH, so I'm hoping that would help me qualify. We shall see! @RVAmom315 Thank you! I'm 37 and my birthday is in December. If our clinic does have an age cut-off, I'm hopeful we'd be able to squeeze in before I turn 38! @zamora_spin What fabulous information! Thank you so much. I'll give that link a careful read before I follow up with my RE.
@JennyColada Welcome back! Sorry you're a member of the club that no one wants to join, but I hope you get answers soon!
AFM:
Diagnosis: OLD AF, OH is on testosterone replacement forcing us to use sperm we froze previously
Status: TWW
What are you doing: Nothing!! NTNP/taking a break. I'm even off of most of my supplements for GI issues, although I will slowly add the most important ones back in.
How is it going: Pretty good. We didn't inseminate any frozen swimmers this cycle, I didn't temp (except a couple of days to confirm I was at post O temps so that I know when to start progesterone), I have taken a break from acu, and we are humping at will. To OH's dismay, I still did make him HIO during the likely FW instead of giving him BJs, and I made him use Preseed, which he hates because it stinks, LOL. All of that to say that I feel pretty free. His parents are in town this week, and we are going away for the weekend with them and his sister, BIL, and cousin and wife. When we get back, I'm on vacation for the week and get a couple of days of just DSS and me, followed by my parents and one of my sisters and her 3 kids coming for a visit. I really wanted to not think about TWW during all of this, so knowing that OH most likely doesn't have any swimmers left, I'm assuming AF will come when I stop progesterone early the following week. Hopefully I can keep the fantasies of a miracle occurring at bay!!!
Any questions: Nope

@darkstar42 so my clinic has a guarantee program but my doctor was confident we wouldn’t need it. Welp, $30k and a CP later here we are discussing IVF #2 for $30k all over again. Even if you have success and overpay, I feel like the risk is worth the benefit.
@emmasemm I get so overwhelmed on the low AMH thread. I’ve read it so many times and still barely got through all the pages of the thread! There has been a lot of good info there from what I’ve seen
@Aurora1973 glad you guys are enjoying each other! And bless your heart giving out BJs like that. It’s DHs bday next week and he asked for one as a single tear fell down his eye (jk- but almost). That’s been a past time in this house. Sperm has always too valuable but now that we’ve been doing IVF I have no excuse except I don’t want to.
AFM I had my WTF apt today but it was a phone consult since my doctor is in another office 2 hours away from me the next 3 weeks and I can’t swing going there with work. It was okay. We discussed doing RPL bloodwork as I’ve had a few other questionable unconfirmed CPs but I don’t know that it’s super urgent if it’s all OOP. My insurance friggin sucks. We’re supposed to start estrace and ganirellix in the LP this cycle. I asked my RE if we could try on our own this cycle (I know that sounds ridiculous to even ask since we are at this stage but I like to know we try every opportunity we can). He said yes but I don’t know how I’d feel about doing ganirellix injections this LP if I were possibly pregnant. Anyone know anything about this? He said it would only bring my progesterone levels down but didn’t have other concerns but I still don’t know how I feel about it. Anyway I’m also questioning starting another cycle now again. I would like to take time and try on our own but i just spent a couple thousand dollars on my dilation surgery and don’t want to have to go through all of that again for another transfer as the outcome from surgery is only temporary and I’m praying as it is now that it holds up for a June transfer. I just have so many thoughts. Ugh.

No, she's not back, she came back to comment on your above post.
And it never having been funny has nothing to do with the fact that the other person who would laugh isn't here any more. It was never funny simply because joking about being pregnant never has been and never will be funny.

Except @ndz2018 you never actually gave an apology, as you can see where I quoted your earlier statement below. You said you never meant to offend but it doesn't change the fact that what you said was incredibly offensive to everyone else on the thread. And the only reason people are continuing is because you seem to think that what you said was OK simply because you think it's funny.

guys relax. She obviously did not mean to offend, she acknowledged that it was a poor choice posting that on this board but tearing a fellow IF friend apart is not going to get anyone anywhere.
@lulu1180 You are technically correct so here ya go “ I am Sorry guys for the offensive comment” , I suppose i thought it was implied when I said I didn’t mean to offend anyone but i obviously need to spell it out. Glad your the ambassador of the IF thread and speak for all ladies dealing with infertility including myself. I also think it’s kinda harsh that you slamming someone who is right there with these IF ladies day in and day out supporting them and going through it myself but I do understand why you have you panties in a bunch. It wasn’t my intention but it is what it is.
To everyone who has supported me these last 7 months of testing, IVF, surgery and my up coming FET thank you all so, so much i don’t think I could’ve gotten through it without you but I’m clearly not welcome here any longer and made a mistake, that’s my bad.
To my girls still going through their testing, IUI and up coming IVFs I’ll be cheering you on 100% from the Infertily group! Thank you all so much for the love through one of the most difficult journeys of my life. You guys ROCK! And i don’t know how I would’ve gotten through it without you. Hopefully I’ll see you on the other side! Thank you for all you love and support!
@ndz2018 I would never suggest or want anyone to leave this thread as I know from personal experience how amazing the support is. And no one ever said they want you to leave. And no, I'm not the ambassador but I know I wasn't the only one that was upset by your comment. And quite honestly, I think that if someone says something that upset a number of people as you did above, it should be pointed out.

***dirty lurker who is always lurking***
The bolded is and has always been true of TB, and should ring true IRL. If someone, whether a regular or a drive by, says something that is offensive or upsets a number of the people who may see or participate on a board or thread - it should be pointed out so that it can be avoided in the future. Hence why we've always told drive bys to apologize, learn from their mistake, and move on. The same rings true for regulars. Things don't suddenly stop being offensive because someone is a regular.
I was very fortunate to not have to battle IF, but I have a number of friends who have and continue to do so. Even I know how offensive "pregnancy jokes" are.
*lurking* IMHO I don't think @ndz2018 meant any harm and I appreciate her apology. I've never been a fan of the April Fools pregnancy jokes and even more sensitive now since battling IF for years now. But I see where the joke hit a sentimental memory for her. I lost my dad in 2001 and many times think of things between us that may not be super appropriate to joke about. Silver lining in battling IF...we can make more people aware of these things. Most people are clueless because it's always been easy for them.

@darkstar42 There is a pretty good write-up on Fertility IQ about guarantee programs: https://www.fertilityiq.com/cost/ivf-refund-and-package-programs
They are pretty skeptical of them so I think it's a good dose of reality.

@avrilmai FX for your IUI this cycle!
@beachbunnyxo123 I really hope they come up with a new protocol that is successful for you. FX!!!
@RVAmom315 So sorry about CD1.
@emmasemm Sorry this past cycle was a bust.

@Augusta108 excited to hear your are moving forward with IVF!
@ndz2018 your transfer is so close!
Ugh.
And it never having been funny has nothing to do with the fact that the other person who would laugh isn't here any more. It was never funny simply because joking about being pregnant never has been and never will be funny.

I guess I was Being sentimental. Everyone is different and has different sense of humors. To say it has and will never be funny is your opinion and maybe some other people as well but that’s the best part about free will, you don’t have to agree with it. I can see you guys were very offended and that was honestly the last thing I wanted to do.
