  • OMG - I feel ancient after doing this lol!

    1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life? I had left my job in DC and moved to south Florida to get away from a toxic boyfriend situation. It was my first big on-my-own transition since getting out of the Army.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic) When I was little, I was all about the Cabbage Patch dolls, My Little Pony and Pound Purries! My dad actually sent a box of childhood stuff about a year ago and my pound purries were in there! They got a deep clean in the washer and now DS plays with them!

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes? I'm embarrassed to admit it but yes! DH wants me to get rid of them but it's all my original Disney movies like the Lion King - you can't just throw that stuff away!

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show. We didn't really watch TV growing up - our parents were anti-screen time lol! But we watched Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and Sesame Street

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore? I miss the toys that would come in the cereal boxes! We used to get some awesome temporary tattoos :)

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years? 80's. I loved growing up in that time, but I can't say I necessarily miss it.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic)
BARBIES! Although my favourite ever was a Sindy doll I got for Christmas one year. I loved her. I was obsessed with her outfit, her shoes, her hat. I just loved her! Edwardian Dream Sindy...

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes?
No VHS although there are probably some at my parents house. I also have all my old Spice Girls cassette tapes somewhere. I'll never get rid of them. JUDGE ME!

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.
    Sabrina the Teenage Witch, probably!

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore?
Can't think of anything in particular!

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?
90s. I do miss it. DH and I were just talking about this, how it was not that long ago but so very different. Simpler.

  • 1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life?

DH was deployed so I was probably sitting around our apartment most of the time. Working my first real job in hotel sales and working my way through college. I was 23.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic)

Hmmmm probably barbies or my little ponies

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes?

No, I think my mom may still have some though but I’m not sure.

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.

As a little kid I enjoyed Muppet Babies and Fraggle Rock. High School I was into Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore?

Oh man, some stuff seems to be making a comeback in newer ways. I can’t even think though I know I’ll remember them once people comment.

I know now some people still rollerblade but it’s not common to see kids do it like we did back then.

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?

I guess moreso the 90’s. I do in a way for what many said before but I can’t imagine not having internet or cell phones anymore like we did back then.
  • This is a fun one!!

    1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life?
I was 22, living with my parents, and doing a year-long student teaching stint.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic)
Another one for My Little Pony and Pound Puppies!  And Barbies too, but that came a little later.  I also loved my talking doll house and Polly Pocket.

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes?
No, but DH and I always talk about the good ol' days when you had to blow on something to make it work, or (gasp!) rewind it.  Or (double gasp!) return it to the video store.

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.
I liked a lot of different stuff, but big favorites were Rainbow Brite, Fraggle Rock, Ghostbusters.  Later on - Saved by the Bell, Are You Afraid of the Dark.

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore?
Does Bubblelicious gum still exist?  I actually was looking for it recently (pregnancy, y'all) but couldn't find it!  Also, what about Gushers and Fruit by the Foot?  And Ecto Cooler???? I ate a lot of healthy things.  :D

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?
A mix of 80s and 90s, and yes I definitely miss those years.  I miss being young, carefree, no responsibilities, but like others have said, I also miss the "simpler times" in general with no social media, no technology, etc.  DH and I often wonder if our kids will remember their youth with the same fondness as we remember ours.  I hope so, but it just seems so different now.
  • 1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life? Being a skank my first year of college. 'Twas a few months before I met DH.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic)

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes?

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.
    Rugrats, Hey Arnold.

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore?
Diet Coke had Cherry Chocolate flavor around Christmas my first year in college and I really miss that.

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?
90s. I do miss them. Everything was much simpler then. Except I was bullied pretty badly because of my weight. I can't imagine how that would be with social media and all that now.

*Totally stole this from another BMB*
  • I love this! It is bring back so many memories.

    1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life?

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years? I was both 80s and 90s I guess since I was born in the very early 80s. I guess sometimes I miss being a kid.

  • @lolog531 yes skip it!! Another one I forgot.
  • @Brezzy1928 I definitely had the same kitchen! Loved that thing.

    Clearly Canadian!

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?

  • 1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life?  Let's see 2008 I had been married to my ex-husband for 5 years, had just moved back to Phoenix from Las Vegas.  We were house shopping around this time.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic)  I can't name just one but here are a few favorite throwbacks in addition to the obvious Barbie that everyone already said:
Why you totally wanted this Sure it was meant for learning but you definitely wanted to own one in order to hear its talking-robot-voice featureWhy you totally wanted this Somehow you always managed to lose a pair of these throughout the year usually left behind at at your grandmas or on some random road-trip location so asking for another one at Christmas was a necessityWhy you totally wanted this These dolls were the ULTIMATE 80s toy and every kid wanted one Plus you could frame the birth certificate and send out announcementsWhy you totally wanted this How could you not want it You had the commercials jingle which was played nonstop stuck in your head Lite-Brite Lite-Brite turn on the magic of colored lights

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes?  Hm....I'm guessing in a bin somewhere I still have a VHS tape of Cruel Intentions.  I probably have cassette tapes somewhere too.

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.   I must be indecisive today:

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?  I guess I'm an 80s kid.  I miss the innocence of those times, the world felt safer- I don't know if it really was or if that was just my happy little kid lens.

    @calimom2524 I had that Barbie!

@livinthesunnylife Yes to My so Called Life! And oh man Jordan Catalano. I loved that show so much.

  • OMG Jem! She’s truly outrageous!!
  • edited March 2018
@Brezzy1928 I saw something about Jared Leto the other day on some news show DH was watching.  I immediately stopped what I was doing and sat down all entranced.  DH was like...I don't get it who is that?  Um, it's Jordan!  He's giving up acting to focus on his band for a while.  He still seems like a cool character.

@scottishlass1213 Jem actually wasn't allowed in our house- my Mom thought they weren't appropriate so she didn't like us watching it.  But she worked 3rd shift on the weekends so we used to sneak downstairs and turn the tv on really quietly and hope she didn't wake up and catch us.
  • OMG how did I forget saved by the bell and full house?! Those were the best shows.

  • @livinthesunnylife I was so disappointed with the live action Jem movie they did years ago. It was awful.

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years? Late 80s/90s. I do not miss the bad fashion or outdated electronics but it was definitely a simpler time to grow up (especially pre social media).

BARBIES. OMG - I had so many Barbies. And She-Ra figures. My obsession with She-Ra was intense.

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes? Nope. Wait - I did have a cassette tape my brother gave me that he made in high school but I lost it somewhere.

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.
She-Ra, Smurfs, Muppet Show, and some drawing show I can't remember now...  We also watched a ton of Nickelodeon. I'm probably showing my age real bad here, but also Contact and Reading Rainbow. I was an obsessive book nerd and would make my mom buy the books the kids reviewed on the show.
    Image result for reading rainbow

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore?
CRYSTAL PEPSI! Jk jk - that stuff was horrid. I may have to think on this. Most of the stuff I ate as a kid I would probably throw up if I ate now. :) I remember a lot of Mr. T and Ghostbusters cereal.

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?
I was a kid (elem. school) in the 80s and in high school in the 90s - so I guess a bit of both? Like others, I miss the 'simplicity' of it - no or low use of technology and just a general sense of safety. I know half the crap I did as a kid, I would be hesitant to let my kid do nowadays.
  • @hezzer78 Omg, Reading Rainbow! I LOVED that show.
  • @hezzer78 - DH just found Reading Rainbow on Amazon Prime and we have a Mr. T cereal magnet on our fridge lol!

  • 1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life?

I was making a living as a poker player and had just quit my hotel front desk job. I was in college for Poli Sci, and trying to decide if I was going to pursue drama in any capacity. I really wanted to do some kind of behind the scenes work in television/ theater.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic)

Sports equipment. I was particularly into basketball, and wanted a free standing adjustable hoop  SO badly.

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes?

Just homemade recordings that I'd like to convert to digital. I convinced DH too get rid of most of our DVDs on our last move too. He's more of a pack rat, but I hate clutter.

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.

Sesame Street was always my favorite until it got retooled for a younger audience. I loved Clarissa Explains It All as soon as we got cable, and that show introduced me to the concept of roller derby.

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore?

I really liked cap guns, but those aren't PC anymore.

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?

I'm very much a 90s kid. I don't have many culturally significant memories of the 80s, though I remember the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Gulf War was the first major news event that I followed.

Dating DH, about to move in together and going back to school for my teaching license.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic)
My Little Pony (PSA, they have some of the originals at Target right now), Barbies, Sweet Secrets, Cabbage Patch Dolls. I was very girly.

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes?
I’m the proud owner of the original Little Mermaid with the dildo on the cover. We have several others, too. I just can’t part with them.

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.
Muppet Babies, Garfield and Friends, Gummy Bears (all of the Disney afternoon), 3 2 1 Contact, Square One, Reading Rainbow, and Full House.

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore?
@lolog531 I’m with you on the Planters Cheez Balls. Those were the BEST!

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?
I’d say 80s and 90s. I do miss those years and feel nostalgic a lot. I think I’m part of the last generation that started college without cell phones and Facebook. It was so simple. I can’t believe the 90s will be thirty years ago in just a couple years. Ugh.
  • 1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life?
I was a freshman in college, dating my high school sweetheart that went to military college an hour away from me.

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic)
All of the baby dolls, I was obsessed with babies. I had a bitty baby that I loved and have saved for my kids. I wanted nothing more than to be a mom and treated those dolls like they were alive  :D

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes?
We did, but gave them to a friend who I babysat for when she had her girls. Although she said she saved them for me and will send them back now that I’m having a baby and her girls are older.

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show.
Rugrats! Again, loved anything baby. We have directv and they play rugrats reruns from 3:00-4:00am during the week, which coincidentally is usually the time I am awake and laying on the couch, so I’ve been watching and reminiscing when the pregnancy insomnia hits.

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore?
Dunkaroos. Forget the cookies, I just wanted the frosting!

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years?
90s and yes I do. I loved the box car kid series and just wanted to play outside with my baby dolls all day long. I would like to go back to a time before social media when life just seemed a lot easier.
  • Oh I just remembered, American Girl Dolls!! Like back when they only had 4 or 5 of them and they each had a book series to go with them. I had Kierstin and Samantha and LOVED them both so much. My mom saved them and I'm so excited to get them out for baby girl.

  • 1. 10 years ago what were you doing in life? Third year of university, in a relationship, same best friends, also working for federal government but somewhere different

    2. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?(bonus for a pic) All the typical ones - baby alive doll, strawberry shortcake... I guess overall I was big into Barbies for a long time.

    3. Do you still own any VHS tapes or cassette tapes? Nope.

    4. Name your favorite past childhood TV Show. So many, I agree with Fraggle Rock, also the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the one about that family of dinosaurs. But I even miss 7th Heaven sometimes lol.

    5. What do you wish was around today (like a food brand or toy brand) that isn't anymore? McDonalds Arch Deluxe, those strawberry shortcake ice cream bars they apparently still have in the USA, Dunkin Donuts coconut donut (just the coconut on top of the white glaze but still with a donut hole and no cream in the middle). Basically anything I like they always get rid of, I must have the most unique taste out there.

    6. What would you consider your growing up years? 70s, 80s, 90s? Do you miss those years? 90s and I am certainly nostalgic about them and probably always will be, although I don't miss them. I am even a bit nostalgic about the late 80s even though it's when I was born.
