hahahaha, this totally made me laugh because I'm that mom that carries a back pack purse so I can be hands free to carry my kid all the time. Its a Henri Bendel so I still have taste, but yeah, fashion lost out to function when DS took over my life.
Everyone spends their money on something that’s not necessary to their survival, so while I don’t understand why people spend their money the way they do, I wouldn’t judge them for it. I’m pretty frugal, but I’m still sure people could judge me for buying organic stuff when regular is fine, or going to basketball games on the regular. I don’t spend a lot of money on shoes, clothes, and I try not to buy things that aren’t useful, but I used to collect movie memorabilia, and while some people would find that I waste of money, I enjoyed it, although I try not to do that anymore. I’m team “Let people enjoy things.”
Jumping right in: I think taking your own hospital gown or spending a chunk of change to have a cute gown to push a human being out of your body is a waste!
Ditto to what @calimom2524 said. I was always a purse girl, so I’ve switched that up with Tulas since I have one or two very neutral diaper bags depending on where we’re going. At first, mostly due to budget, I had one Tula and a ring sling with DS. But after leaving the house intending to wear him, and realizing I had left it at home, I quickly figured out that for my own sanity, I needed one to keep in my car, one to keep in my house, and DH decided he wanted one in his car as well. I’ve bought and sold them but I usually (especially now that the market slowed down on them) just buy a print I will love. Not sorry

Yes! That is so crazy to me! You literally BLEED on it. Why does it need to be cute?!
Oh, I thought of one since it’s March Madness. I don’t really understand the obsession with college sports, and I don’t see why you would root for a team from a college when you didn’t go to that school. I mean, maybe if someone close to you in your family did? Then again, some cities/states don’t have pro teams, so I guess they need something to cheer for
@lalala2004 I love college sports, but I am a die hard fan of the school that I actually attended. It is completely beyond me when people cheer for a school they have no affiliation with. Lookin' at you, Walmart Wolverines.

I agree with this. I LOVE pro football, basketball, and baseball, but never watch college. There's way too many games, way too many teams, and I just do not got time for that.
However I'll watch the Cowboys, Cubs, and Warriors all day any day. Yes, I'm aware these teams are all from different states.
@juliebird6 hahahaha you're da best. Stupid Walmart Wolverines!
@mapleandbacon I didn't even know taking your own gown to the hospital was a thing? I left my bra on- it was a comfy sports bra and these things were so huge I was more comfortable with it on. The nurses acted like I was crazy. Who wants to be flopping around trying to birth a kid?
Yeah I don't get the hospital gown thing either. I did bring a lightweight solid black robe to wear after I gave birth to DS2 though. It was way more comfortable and way easier for skin to skin than the hospital gown. I chose solid black just in case any blood or other fluids got on it, though.
I think after a few months of reading the UO posts I have come to realize that I can't contribute because I don't really care about a lot of things apparently hahaha I mean, I do, but to an extent. I guess my UO is I am okay with being indifferent to a lot of things!
Also re carriers, I just have the one but I am really excited to buy new suck pads and drool bibs to accessorize it so I get wanting to be able to change things up! I bought a navy embossed Lillé and loved the pattern of suck pads and drool bib I had for DS2, but now I want something girly.
I personally am cheap so I am good with the one wrap and one Lillé carrier for now, but I do get the collecting different colours and styles aspect of things like that or cloth diapers or whatever.

Yes! A family friend sent me a nice care package when I was on bed rest with DS, and in it was a cute hospital gown. I was like ok this is cute but when am I supposed to wear it? After I give birth I’m not going to want to wear a gown anymore, but hello, blood. So it’s still in the package in my closet somewhere.

100000% If someone can afford something and it makes them happy, who am I to judge? I have no idea of their financial situation and even if I did it ain’t my place to say they should put their money elsewhere.
+1 for hospital gowns FTW. Although obviously I am coming from a “been there done that” perspective. Before I had DH I did research fancy/cute gowns but now I realise they’d be a waste of money, it would be the last thing on my mind as I’m pushing! Having said that, I’ll definitely want to be nicely waxed before my DD which is dumb because who cares? Not the midwife, I’m sure!
@dirtanddiamonds alllll of the selfies for me if I'm having a good hair and/or makeup day. To be fair that's only like one selfie a month or so cuz most days I'm a hot mess, but still. My SO loves getting them so why not? @ecwk AMEN sister friend. Amen. I have approximately zero monogrammed things and it shall stay that way.
@ecwk yes to that, or at least shaving. Last time my friends were all "Who cares?!?!?" But when you're pp and cramping and using a peri bottle do you really want dripping gross hair down there? Just my humble opinion.
Ok so I totally bought and wore my own gown and plan to again. Hear me out though- hospitals really weird me out. I hate them. I hate hospital gowns, hospital beds, other patients, hospital food, everything. Obviously they are a necessity and I have the utmost respect for nurses and doctors. Everyone was great during my most recent hospital stay, but still, no thank you and avoid at all costs. So, I labored in the tub with nothing but a sports bra and that's how I delivered as well. They threw a hospital gown on my afterwards like I really cared at that point who saw me naked. Once I felt a bit more comfortable, I changed into the gown I brought. It's just plain black with easy boob access and all sorts or different holes so the nurses can come push the shit out of your belly. That part is the worst. I didn't get any blood or fluid on it and it make me feel more comfortable. But it totally isn't necessary and not for everyone.
Also, go green! I graduated from MSU in 2008. Didn't expect to find so many sparty fans here
ITT: Things people find annoying that I never knew were trends, lol.
I'm from a college town in Oregon, we only care about college sports because we only HAVE college sports. The Trail Blazers are our only pro team, and almost no one where I'm from cares about them at all. There are a few stray NFL fans, but Ducks or Beavers is 99% of the football conversation. I'm a big football fan, but once a guy graduates I don't care what happens to him. He's basically dead to me.

My UO- as a former female athlete, and someone who’s career revolves around sports, I do not like female sports. I will watch a men’s sporting event any day, but click right past the women’s game.
I’m glad other people on here are March madness fans! My team was bumped out, so I’m just hoping for good games.
I love the idea of a robe for the hospital, and told DH last night that I want a black one. I forget who mentioned they had one, but great idea! The hospital gown revealed way more than a regular robe would, and they seem like they would be way more comfortable.
My best friend just had her baby last week via c-section and her swelling was so bad that a robe was the only thing that fit. *fingers crossed* I won’t be having a c section but I love the idea of a robe!
So I can see the benefit of bringing a nice robe to the hospital for after the birth, but I don't plan on buying a special birthing or labor gown.
There's just too many bodily fluids involved that the gown would just be thrown away anyway.
But a nice, comfy robe post-delivery would be wonderful! Easy access for the doctors to check you, easy breast access, and more comfortable that the gown that you deliver in!
@kburg15 Something similar happened to me with DD, even though I didn't have a c-section. I literally had zero socks or shoes I could wear for almost 2 weeks in mid January in Michigan. It was horrible.
ha, I didn't have a c-section but I was induced and it took 32 hours. So lots of bags of fluids. I was walking around the hospital in a pair of DH's flip flops because my feet were too swollen to fit in my own. I have a picture I took of my legs and send to my mom calling them my "elephant trunks" cause that's what they looked like.
Late to the convo, but I took baggy black pj pants, a black stretchy nursing top and a cute robe I bought for recovery. It was perfect. I ended up naked in a tub for delivery so a delivery gown would have been a waste of money, lol.

This was me totally. I even deleted a lot of pics of it because I looked 100 lbs heavier. Another reason why I don’t dig visitors. Lol.
I did birth photos so I kinda understand wanting a pretty gown with that in mind - but knowing it’s likeky disposable. But I didn’t, the color of the hospital gowns is flattering on me anyhow lol.
for after I preferred being real clothes to change into the next day (day if I wore whatever and didn’t care). Once I showered (and let me tell you that is the best shower of your life) I felt more human and wanted to dress just to feel better. Nothing fancy.., yoga pants and a comfy black tee. I didn’t want to lay around in robes bc I knew it wouldn’t help me feel better really.
