I'm selfishly starting a new symptoms thread because the last one is from a few weeks ago and I have a symptoms question.

Re: Symptoms 3/6

  • So for those of you with sciatica...does it randomly switch sides? Mine always bothers me in my left butt cheek/leg but all of a sudden my right butt cheek hurts. I say butt cheek because it's the best description but it's sciatic pain, I know that for sure.

  • @calimom2524 Mine usually is on the left but, I do get right pain because when the left bothers me I walk funny or try to avoid putting weight on the left and it upsets the right. If that makes any sense at all.

AFM - I had a nose bleed today. I can only remember ever having two in my whole life and the last one was when I was ten. Is this a pregnancy thing?

That makes total sense actually. I do overcompensate with my right leg so I could see why that one is angry now.

Yes, nose bleeds are absolutely a pregnancy thing. Isn't pregnancy great?

  • No answers to the first two questions so I am sorry, but my complaint seems to be tiny burps in my throat, which is weird. I don't burp like ever and last night I had ice cream after dinner then all of a sudden this burp that tasted LIKE my dinner and I panicked thinking I was going to throw up because it was disgusting and DH was like "no, that's just what burping is" LMAO.  I guess I am a freak of nature.
  • @Brezzy1928 not to totally freak you out but last pregnancy, I woke up in a LITERAL pool of blood around my head - in my hair, caked all over my face, chest, pillow. It looked like a crime scene. My husband was on shift so I woke up, freaked out, ran to the bathroom (gushing blood from my nose all the way). I leaned over the sink because I wasn't quite sure what was going on. It was like a faucet was turned on in my head. I thought I was going to bleed to death. Absolutely horrible and it wouldn't stop. Apparently it was "totally normal." I still get shivers thinking about it. So dang scary.
  • Everyday it something new!

@scottishlass1213 I burp all the time now and everything, not to sound 100 years old, but "repeats" on me. This morning it was bacon. All morning bacon burps.

  • I literally sat on my bed for an hour after it - I know it sounds so minimal but it was almost traumatizing to me, I kept obsessing about this burp.  I have issues with vomit if that's not evident hahahahah
  • @calimom2524 yes. Unfortunately.

  • Yes to the nose bleeds being normal.
My nipples (not aeriolas  (spelling??) ) hurt like frikkin hell lately. I know its normal, but it's frustrating

  • Okay the nosebleed stuff is scaring tf out of me. I’ve only ever had one in my entire life - fingers crossed I don’t get them!

@meeks2020 my nipples have been hurting SOOOO badly too. To the point where I come home from work and sit on the couch topless bc it hurts to even have my bra touching them.

My weirdest symptom I’ve experienced so far is whenever I stand and/or walk for an extended period of time, I get the strangest numb spot on my left thigh. I guess the baby/my uterus is sitting on a nerve? I plan to ask the doctor about it tomorrow.
  • Welp the first tri exhaustion is hitting me. At almost 18 weeks. Awesome.

Ive been trying to get up and go to the grocery store for the last 2 hours and now it’s dinnertime!

  • @khugs15 probably sciatica. Not the baby so much as relaxin allowing your joints to become more loose and out of whack. Also, around this time in pregnancy is when our center of balance starts to shift, so that can play a part, too. If your doctor is like mine they’ll just say “That’s normal” and not give you advice. I go to a chiropractor and that helps a lot.

  • @calimom2524 I have the same problem with the sciatica- I think it depends which side I'm favoring at the moment. I had a bad back pre-pregnancy, but it's just been kicked into high gear.

@scottishlass1213 Tiny burps made me think of Titus Andromedon

I'm still having headaches. Out of the past 21 days or so, I would say I've had a headache for at least 14 of them- two days were migraines. I'm trying to change up my diet and increase my water intake, but between the headaches and this weird throbbing I get in my neck/shoulders and upper right thigh, I'm starting to worry about my blood pressure. My next appointment is a week from tomorrow, so I'm going to bring it all up to my doctor.

  • I've suffered with sciatica for years, and yes, both sides are affected.  Somehow pregnancy seems to have cleared up that issue for me, rather than making it worse, so yay for that! Nosebleeds are really common for me now, it happens almost every day. I also live in an alpine desert, so that makes it worse.

  • I've never had a nosebleed, that would completely terrify me! I've been getting major indigestion these past few days. Extra strength tums seem to do the trick but aren't too many of those bad? Cause kidney stone or something? I've also had continuous headaches. Extra strength Tylenol every few hours, magnesium, and trying to eat constantly help out. They are lessening, thank goodness.

For or the past 3 weeks or so, I've had food aversions to everything. Pizza doesn't even sound good lately. I had to choke down a granola bar this morning before my sugar got too low and kept gagging.

This pregnancy is a complete 180 from my DD. I didn't necessarily enjoy pregnancy and I had different complaints like a lot of sciatica and round ligament pain that go around. It's so crazy how it's the same body making a baby, but completely different experiences.

    Hello from Detroit!

  • @rocknrollmom I completely agree! My symptoms/experiences are completely different from last time as well. It keeps making me think I must be having a girl this time (first was boy), but I realize that different symptoms do not necessarily reflect on child’s gender.

My major symptom is bad back pain between my shoulder blades while I sleep. No matter how many pillows I use, nor how I arrange them, nothing yet has helped. I just toss and turn all night and eventually get to the point each night where my back hurts so much that I can’t sleep. At that point, I either take a shower to loosen up my muscles again or sometimes DH wakes up and gives me a massage.

I scheduled an appointment next week with a chiropractor. Hopefully that will help.
  • @proudparent2b does a heating pad help? I've used that for lower back pain recently and it was magic. Hope you find some relief!

Still gagging & trying not to puke. Still exhausted. I spent most of the weekend sleeping. Now my feet are starting to swell, and I’m getting headaches a lot. Really hoping it isn’t my blood pressure. We’re taking DS to a hockey game this weekend, and I just want to have enough energy to get through everything.
  • @melprop do you own one of those blood pressure cuffs to use at home? I might try it if I were you with the headaches and swelling just to be safe. Try it for a few days. Of course I err on the side of caution.

@proudparent2b +1 for completely different pregnancy. With ds I had a unicorn first trimester and bad headaches second tri. Eventually I got pregnancy-induced hypertension this tri but we're not to that part yet. This time I had a HORRIBLE first tri with every symptom thrown at me hard it seems. Second tri I have had some headaches but most I can adult through.  And my emotions have been a WILD ride  :D

  • Relaxin effects all joints right? I literally did nothing yesterday and now my shoulder, groin and elbow are all jacked up. It hurts so bad to lift my shoulder. The only thing I can think of is I carried around my laptop for a couple hours yesterday in my bag but that’s it

  • @proudparent2b totally night and day different here! I know it’s not true for everyone but for me... the 3 boys were so similar and this girl? 180. It’s crazy. And not that pleasant lol.

Yep, it sucks. Too bad our bodies can’t figure out which bones do and don’t need to shift!

  • +1 to having a completely different pregnancy experience this time around. I didn't have nearly the ms or sleep issues with DS.

@hardlyhannah - unfortunately yes. My groin and hips are killing me today and I literally sat like 99% of the day yesterday. Pregnancy is so glamorous!

@melprop - sorry you're still feeling so sick! Are you on meds for it? And I agree to the blood pressure cuff - it's normal to have swelling and headaches but when they start happening together it might be an issue. My MFM has me on baby asprin already as a preemptive measure.

To the ladies that are having poop issues - are you taking a probiotic? I know they don't help you go but I've been on them since I had the bronchitis (around 11 weeks) and they've really helped. It took about 2-3 weeks before I really noticed any difference but I still take them every day and things aren't normal but they're definitely better!

  • I monitor my BP at home using a home cuff. I invested in one during my last pregnancy when I had pregnancy-induced hypertension. It gives me a lot of peace of mind and my BP measurements at the OB office are notoriously inaccurate (e.g. MA insists on using the cuff over a heavy sweater and/or I’m super anxious because I always am when at the doctor). I’ve had terrible daily headaches for the past 3 weeks but fortunately they don’t seem to be BP related (yet). I had been taking a good amount of Tylenol (starting with when I had high fever with flu 3 weeks ago) so now I worry that there’s a rebound component to them as well. I’ve decided to try to struggle through at least a full week without any meds to test if that’s an issue. So far I’m alive though intermittently miserable. I did NOT have this symptom with my last pregnancy. In fact, I distinctly remember feeling pretty amazing starting early in the second trimester.

  • OH! I just remembered something else. Has anyone else been suffering from Dysgeusia?

For the last 6-7 weeks I've had to have gum or a mint in my mouth at all times. It's finally subsided for the most part (finally at 16 weeks), but my problem now is that ALL the water I drink tastes metallic-y. I've tried bottled water, my Brita filter, and the water that comes out of my fridge door. Obviously, I'm trying to drink as much as I can and avoid soft drinks/iced tea, but the way it tastes is killing me!

Can anyone recommend any "water enhancers" I can add to give it some flavor that don't have aspartame in them? Hoping to get to Target this afternoon at lunch to find something!
  • @khugs15 - YES!!! It's my biggest symptom right now. I do lemon, lime and orange, just throw big slices and chunks in a jug of water in the fridge. The citrus helps with the nasty taste. La Croix (I think I'm spelling that right) has a lot of options too that don't have artificial sweeteners.

  • @khugs15 Have you eaten pine nuts recently? I ate some in a hummus last year and for over a month my mouth tasted like bad metal forks, and it really screwed up my taste receptors for other foods as well. It eventually faded, but I haven't had the guts to try pine nuts again.

As for water flavor enhancers, I've really been digging the Crystal Light Pure packets. They're sweetened with a teensy bit of sugar and stevia, and I find they taste really good and not artificial-ish.
  • @khugs15 most afternoons my mouth tastes like I've been sucking on a penny. It was one of my first symptoms and it went away for a while but came back about 2 weeks ago.

As far as the relaxin and stuff, I literally pop my own back and hips 20 times a day ... even when I turn over in bed at night. I'm sure it's terrible for my body but I haven't (knock on wood) had to go to the chiropractor yet and I went weekly from about 6 weeks last time around. It seems to help any sciatic issues that creep up.

Today I asked my OB nurse why my left ovary felt kind of pull-y and she asked if I was constipated. Why yes, as a matter of fact, up to my eyeballs. LOL. She said it was a constipation symptom! I ended up going this morning and it hurt worse for a while, almost like there was "so much room for activities!"
  • Last week, the day before my appt, I had horrible cramping and it definitely felt like contractions. I had woken up at night to vomit (unusual for me to wake up after falling asleep to throw up, but I've had a lot of MS so that's not unusual), that's when the "contractions" started. I was a bit nervous bc I had pre term labor with my third that started around 33 weeks (we made it to 38 weeks and she was almost 10 lbs so it all worked out ok!). Anyway, I knew they weren't real contractions bc of their location, but it was still scary. My dr took some blood to test liver and gallbladder enzymes and at my son they'll check for gallstones - but I'm just hoping it was a one time trapped gas experience.

Thankfully I'm not throwing up every day anymore, but now I have the all day dull headache. I really wish I were someone that enjoyed pregnancy but I am so longing for sleepless nights with baby on the outside ;) - healthy and fullterm, of course.
  • Yes to the relaxin.  I am so full of relaxin LOL  I worked out last night and semi-regret it today because that makes it worse but the exercise makes me feel mentally better, soo.....

Last night I could barely get out of bed because I thought my pubic bone was going to rip apart.  It hurts to walk today without feeling like an old woman.
  • Now my sciatica is better, but my upper back is sore. And my nose is crazy dry. I kept waking up in the MOTN so uncomfortable just because of my nose. Bleh.

  • @homequiltingmama - oh my that must have been terrifying! I hope it doesn't happen again

I feel like I'm back in the beginning of 1st tri... I've got the dull, achey stretchy feeling in my pelvis and I have to pee ever 30 min. Plus I'm breaking out all over my chin and around my mouth.

Wtf, where's my 2nd tri glow?!?

  • @scottishlass1213- oh yay! I hope the appointment foes well! My skin has stayed pretty much the same this time until this week, but I woke up yesterday and was like what the hell is happening? I've got the big ugly white head pimples that makeup won't cover, I look like a teenager!

  • My uterus is achy now. That's normal, right? And my nausea is back so I'm contemplating calling for a refill of diclegis since I've been out for almost a week.
  • This relaxin is insane. My hips are SO SORE today and there's absolutely no reason for it other than walking. Come on body, adjust already!

  • @homequiltingmama did you by chance eat a fatty meal for lunch or dinner? I was plagued with gallbladder issues my first pregnancy that I assumed was gas/indigestion. My first "attack" appeared after eating a cheeseburger and fries from 5guys. It was very sporadic until right after I had the baby it got so.much.worse. Like worse than unmedicated childbirth.

Looking back now those pains I had were brought on by fatty foods, a classic gallbladder issue red flag.

  • @meeks2020 @mrsbubbles-2 , I’m on anti-nausea meds I can take every 4 hours. I seem to start gagging every 3-3.5 hours after I take them. I don’t have an at-home bp cuff. I’ll check my bp at the in-store machine the next time we go to Walmart. If it’s higher than my last appt I’ll invest in an at-home cuff. The headaches may be related to me not eating or drinking enough, I’m not sure. I need to make some homemade granola & other snack food to munch on during the day and see if that helps the headaches.
  • My uterus is achy now. That's normal, right? And my nausea is back so I'm contemplating calling for a refill of diclegis since I've been out for almost a week.
I ran out of Diclegis a couple of weeks ago and didn't realize how much it helped until I didn't have it! I felt AWFUL for about a week and thought I just had a stomach bug but then realized I had run out of meds. I called and got a refill and I'm back to normal now.

I almost feel bad for how much I'm relying on it but kind of hoping that I can ween myself off of it in the next few weeks and be done by 20wks.
