@zombiehoohaa you can definitely get hemorrhoids from it (I certainly did), and it can cause an SCH (sub chorionic hemorrhaging). I have experienced both due to constipation the SCH can ne harmful to the baby in early stages, but I am not sure what risks are at this stage. I know that it does require bedrest even later in pregnancy... so keep taking that colace!
@zombiehoohaa maybe call your OB and see if they are ok with you taking a regular stool softener. Definitely helped me while I was taking zofran in the first tri.
@cseley321 I didn't know there was a recommended time frame for DHA, but if you want to keep taking I take rainbow light and have never noticed a fishy taste or smell. I buy the dha and prenatal in a pack together for like $25. I know that people have said they hate the rainbow light taste (for prenatals) but I haven't noticed a flavor at all with the DHA.
I’m with @SmashJam I’ve been taking rainbow light prenatal one and the DHA. I buy the duo pack and haven’t had any issues. The nurse actually recommended them to me over all the other prenatal when I did my initial intake appointment. The DHA smells like orange to me.
@ckmb_knottie- seems like a fairly even split from the responses - i'm in the half where my OB is connected to a specific hospital. Dating U/S or any quick checks due to spotting or past due date fluid concern are done in office, but NT, anatomy, or additional high risk U/S are done at the hospital on the better machines @MichelleAG05- I love the vitafusion gummies - they have DHA and folic but no Iron :-/ BUT they taste like lemon and raspberry and with the horrible MS with my first these were the only ones i could keep down @zombiehoohaa - have you tried a squatty potty? HIGHLY recommend, especially for that first postpartum poop. Straining too hard won't hurt the baby - but you could pop a blood vessel in your eye, or pull a muscle, and hemorrhoids are sooo painful. Apples or prune juice can help
@gingerbride26 - I've had lots of people tell me about good gummies! I'm worried that a separate iron pill would kill my stomach though. I'm going to try the Zahler (hopefully being delivered by Amazon today) and see how they work out.
Hemorrhoids also don't go away on their own. It's a sad, sad thing - avoid them at all costs!
Thanks ladies! @gingerbride26 I have a squatty potty at home and LOVE it, however when at work is my struggle. I've been eating a lot of fiber, and poo friendly foods, including toast with butter @and846. I was taking Zofran this past week and know it causes constipation. Hopefully this will pass. I emailed my ob @moguippy, just waiting for her response.
@MichelleAG05 I have tummy problems myself so I just haven't been taking iron at all... I've been having chills and asked about my iron levels during the last round of blood work, but they said it was fine, so i'm not going to sweat it.
@zombiehoohaa work poops are the WORST! I've been swearing i'm going to invent a travel one to bring to work with me for a long time now... They just came out with one but it's not purse-sized which is what you really want when heading to the work restroom. When desperate, I use the handicap stall and use the handles to balance and like bring my knees up in a pseudo squatty position... not sure how else to describe it... TMI i know sorry
So I'm pretty sure I failed my 3 hour. Just got the lab results in my email (on a Sunday? Weird) and can't talk to the midwife until tomorrow about the results, so I've been driving myself crazy googling. I know if you fail 2 or more, they diagnose you. I definitely failed the one hour level. I am so confused about the second though. I got 155, and some charts I look at say 155 or higher is failing, and others says over 155 is failing. This is literally the difference between me passing or failing. Has anyone ever experienced this? Will I likely be diagnosed? Really upset....mostly because all I've wanted for this delivery is to avoid the hospital and now I don't know if it will be possible.
Hey ladies! Came here to ask a question, was reading the first few comments and it's kind of similar. I'm a FTM and, I'm 18w4d. I am not showing at all. I have gained a good amount of weight (10lbs) but nothing to show for it. Is this normal for a first time mom? My mother and all her friends are starting to concern me with the comments like "Oh you're way too small at 18 weeks!" Or "He must really be hiding, you don't look pregnant at all" Sorry if this is too similar to a question already asked. Just a chronic worrier looking for some answers
@babyrojas2018 don't worry. I'm in the same boat. I gained 10 pounds and I'm just now starting to show a bit at 19 weeks. Most of the weight is in my chest and some in my belly of course.if you look in the HDBD thread you'll see my picture from 18 weeks. I was very active before I got pregnant. I have a friend who is a trainer, and even though she was taller than me and has broad shoulders, she did not truly show until 23-24 weeks. All my US have been fine, baby us growing on time and my doctor is not concerned. So people juys need to shut up, lol. Plus, there is still plenty of time to grow and become big...I'm not holding my breath though I'll admit I'll be happy with a baby on the smaller size for obvious reasons...as long as him and I are healthy it's all good.
@kissableviv yes, in reality all I care about is his health, and mine. On Friday I will see my OB for the anatomy scan and hoping all is well. I just let people get into my head sometimes lol but you're right sometimes they need to shut up! And thank you, I'm glad there are others with the same thing going on who let me know now to worry!
@babyrojas2018 totally normal! I gained around 10lbs by 20 weeks and was barely showing with my 1st, it all went to my chest and I had some terrible stretch marks to prove it lol. Some people take longer to show, especially if youre a ftm, have strong stomach muscles, a long torso, or just carry more internally. I’m 5’2” and wasn’t very fit but it took me over 20 weeks to show with DS. This time around I feel like I’m a month ahead. We’ll all be huge and miserable by summer!
@babyrojas2018 - agree with the previous posters - with my first I didn't show for FOREVER and was smaller than average the whole time. I got tons of "you don't even look pregnant" the whole time. Also got a lot of death glares at our hospital tour because I was 1-2 months ahead of everyone and half the size. Ended up with a 8 lb 21 inch baby that shocked everyone. Everyone carries differently and each kid is going to be different. This time i popped a lot sooner but I even notice day to day or even hour to hour the bump changes drastically depending on food and how the kid turns.
I just heard from my doctor regarding our NT results and everything looks fine (no chromosome abnormality or risk of Down syndrome) but she said that because of my low levels I am at risk for growth restriction and early delivery. I have my appt tomorrow with her and plan to ask a bunch of questions. I completely froze and was caught off guard by her phone call while I’m at work so I didn’t ask anything. She did say that after 20 weeks I’ll have more frequent appointments and ultrasounds. Now I am completely stressing. Has anyone else had these results with their NT scan?
@kissableviv just heard back from my Ob and I have low HCG1 MoM is at 0.30. She said she doesn’t want to alarm me but I can’t help but feel stressed out. Luckily I have my appointment with her tomorrow to get more answers.
How are you all handling telling your coworkers about your pregnancy? I have told my boss, and the management all know, but I feel like my immediate coworkers are still clueless. I thought about mentioning it at a meeting, but it seemed inappropriate to make the meeting all about me. Really I wish I could just think of one person to tell and they would spread the news because I do not want the attention, I just want people to know why I'm getting fat LOL. I do plan to tell one coworker who will largely be covering for me during my leave soon, since it obviously affects her the most.
@limoncat I'm in the same boat. I am so dang busy at work (which is why I shouldn't be on TB right now), so I don't feel like getting all of the attention. I've told some people I work with (in my dept. but not in the same branch), but not most of the folks in my office.
@limoncat I just told a couple people at work as it seemed most natural and let it spread.. I also did bring it up at a meeting once when I was being assigned some thing for this summer. I just said "actually I will most likely be out on maternity leave at that point so can you make sure to loop in my supervisor".

I'm not really sure where to put this so I'm putting it in the questions thread... So my SIL's have started planning my shower already... They want to do it end of April. I will be 28+2. Does anyone else think that is too early? They said that is the best date for them (and both DH and I are free). I actually love the idea of having it so early bc that gives us time to set up and buy the stuff we will still need, but I just can't shake the idea that it is too early?
@moguippy it’s early, sure, but technically you’re in the 3rd tri and hit the viability milestone. I say if it’s a good date for everyone, no reason to push it back. You might get some whiney older ladies, but it’s your shower. I’m all for it being a little early so you have an idea of what you have and what you still need to buy before baby comes.

Ditto. I loved having mine early with my boys, it was so nice to have time to go finish off my registry and get everything set up!
@krystlerr - good luck @limoncat - I did announce to my staff as part of my staff meeting as a "heads up" because i've had a LOT of extra dr appointments i'm out for randomly - but that's also the kind of team I have where we are close. Other than that I've left it to rumor mill (someone stopped me in the hall yesterday and said they heard I was having triplets...i'm not there's just one) or if it comes up in casual conversation. It's really up to you and how close you are to coworkers, really the only people who need to know are your boss, HR, and whoever needs to backfill you while you are out. @moguippy - I think my shower was March and I was due end of May...I'm not sure if there is a hard and fast rule on timing - I will say the shower can be exhausting, so it is better to have it before you are so big and tired and cranky... I don't think 28 is too early - I agree it's nice to have time to set up too and if that's when it's convenient for family then it's a good time.
@limoncat my boss kind of told the rest of our team. I told our direct reports and then we announced the new at our weekly team meeting. She's actually doing a gender reveal for me this week (I called and told the bakery what color frosting to put in the cupcakes) so she's super cute about it. But I work with probably 50+ people throughout the company who have NO IDEA. I kind of what my maternity leave plan in place with a direct plan of who's covering what before I tell them all. IDK, I'm torn on how to "casually" bring it up too.
Thanks @acunamatada@comealongponds@gingerbride26 I also just realized I put this in the wrong week.. oops. I know May will be super busy with Mother's day, Memorial day, 3 family birthdays, and one SIL's anniversary. And June has father's day and FIL's birthday so April makes sense.. just not ideal I guess.
I also think they are thinking the earlier the better bc 2 of my 3 SILs have been pregnant. One had an emergency c-section almost a month early (and less than a week after her shower) and the other had at least two bouts of early labor stopped in the hospital and delivered at 38 weeks (twins). So that is fresh in their minds.
And the older ladies will have lots to whine about.. we are doing a co-ed shower haha
@moguippy I think it's totally ok, I'm having mine on May 20th which is a bit late but it's the only time that works for us. My husband has a business trip in April, then we have a wedding to attend, then we are going on our babymookn. I'll be 34 weeks but I think it's still ok! My friend just had hers at 33.
Thanks @samjjorgensen@gingerbride26@MrsMiller8588@js8812 for your responses. I think my bigger issue is that I do not feel very close to most of my coworkers and I just do not feel like discussing something I feel is pretty personal with all of them. I've also just had this weird anxiety about announcing my pregnancy in general. My husband has told the few friends that know, and I finally got the guts to tell our babysitter last night, lol. I have no idea why I am acting like this as I did not have this problem with my first. There is one girl at work that I am pretty friendly with, I think I am going to tell her, because she is also pretty chatty. I hope she will get the rumor mill started and then I can just not have to deal with it.
@moguippy I had my shower with baby #1 really late, like around 38 weeks, and if I could do it over again, I would have loved to have it much earlier. You will still have energy! I felt like I waddled into the room, sat in a chair the whole time, and then got up when it was done. It would have been nice to participate in it more. And you're right about having the time after to get everything set up. I was getting so stressed towards the end because I NEEDED to nest but I didn't want to buy anything from my registry until after my shower.
