Re: Questions w/o Feb 5

  • Okay, question for small bump ladies. I am 17 weeks now and way smaller now than I was with previous two babies at this time. I feel a lot of pressure on my stomach. Like, even when I feel hungry I also feel super full. The heartburn is bad too but my stomach is just so uncomfortable. Could it be, if I am carrying more internally this time, that baby is putting more pressure on my stomach? Is this a small bump thing or am I just weird?

Also, tmi, but anyone get thick mucous discharge after sex? I don't remember seeing mucous this thick until later in pregnancy before. There's no blood, so probably not a big deal, right?

  • I know with my first I was much bigger at this point than I am this time. I am 18 weeks and don't even look pregnant most days and then sometimes she sticks out to be seen. I also don't have an appetite at all this time and my food portions are next to non existent. Not sure if it's a boy vs girl thing since I had a boy first and a girl this time or what it is
  • I’m 17+4, and I have been feeling absolutely stuffed / full as my tiny bump has started to protrude. I have been practically force feeding myself bc I lost a pound last month... but no food cravings, and no desire to chow down.
Feeling a little better that I’m not the only one!
  • +1 to the being smaller and not eaging much/having small portions. Also +1 to a lot of mucous all the time! It's crazy.
  • I was smaller the second time around. I ended up being induced (after my due date) for having low fluid, but my baby was still 8lbs. Could be that you’re carrying differently this time!

I did some research on discharge recently and there definitely was a part about discharge after sex and mixing with semen and it wasn’t concerning.
  • Don't think I am particularly small right now but omg I get SO full SO fast. I've basically just had to constantly be eating a little at a time to keep the painful fullness and heartburn at bay these last few days. Really trying to make sure me and the babies are both gaining weight but it sucks-wasn't expecting this so early on
  • @devilcat139 I was telling my mom that I can’t imagine 5 more months of getting bigger, as my poor short + small torso seems to be crying uncle already! I’m really at a loss where the organs and baby (in your case x2!) are going to orient themselves if living quarters are already so tight.
So I was doing some googling, and I read in the EU their weight gain recs are lower, and pretty firmly enforced via judgement, at 9-10kg. And the US is also batting around lowering guidance to 20-25 (from 25-35) for single baby w/ normal BMI.
  • I was very small with my first two and couldn’t eat much. I would get so hungry and then when I ate I was full so quickly. My heart burn was horrible too. This time I can eat way more, but I’m scared to step on the scale... I am for sure carrying differently this time because I feel less pressure on my stomach. Much less discomfort.
  • @pretzellover I was reading a book that had done extensive studies on best outcomes with multiples and better outcomes (gestation and weight) could be linked to gaining enough weight in the first and second trimesters. I’m trying my best to follow it-supposed to get to 20lbs by 20 weeks but at my last appointment at 17 weeks I was only at 12. I feel unlucky too-I’m not short (5’7) but it’s all legs. Wish some length was in my torso right about now because you’re right I have NO idea what’s going to happen in the next 19 weeks. Going to be so huge/uncomfortable!
  • My bump is still pretty small (I'm 18 weeks, 4 days) but I'm finding it SO hard to roll over at night, I literally feel like a turtle. I also have a ton of pressure, especially when I'm laying down. Anyone else?
  • @pretzellover That's very interesting. My doctor wants me to gain 20 by the end so I wonder if they are following the new guidance. I started out a bit overweight so he put me toward the lower end.
  • Haha seriously? I carry far back also (last time too) and I can't stop snacking :( i feel pressure too I guess, but it hasn't deterred me from eating all the food. I didn't start having insane food (mostly junk food) cravings until late in my third trimester last time
  • @pretzellover - Another short (on-existent) torso lady here!  I'm only 5'1" and my legs are the same length as my 5'10" husband.  I've got 1.5-2 inches maybe between the bottom of my rib and top of my hip.  My DD was a big girl too - 8.4 lbs and 22 inches.  I was HUGE and very uncomfortable despite only gaining 22 lbs total.  I had heartburn daily (in fact, had to take Prilosec daily) and had to rest a lot near the end.  But I still enjoyed being pregnant and she was perfect!

She did *not* gain 1 lb a week at the end like "they" say (luckily).  My doc said that naturally adjusts and predicted she would only gain maybe .5 lbs per week, and she was right.
  • I know for a fact that in Europe they enforce the 10kg weight gain. Personally, I don't think that 20 or 25 pounds makes a huge difference, we put the weight in different areas too. It definitely depends on where we start, I was in the normal BMI range. I think at least 2 of the pounds I gained are in my chest! I don't have issues with eating normal meals but that also means I need to pace myself more or I'll end up feeling super stuffed. No heartburn yet so that's also contributing to me eating all the things! Lol

  • Gosh i looked like a cow with DS. I gained between 45-50 lb and i started at 109 & 5’2”. He was almost 9 lbs (bigger than DH and i). Luckily i lost it all before this pregnancy but i hope i don’t gain that much again.
  • My prenatals are almost gone and I don't love them. Does anyone have one that does have iron and DHA that's only once a day that you love?  Bonus points if it has folate instead of folic acid!
  • For those of you with anatomy scans/mid pregnancy ultrasounds coming up, are you having it done by your normal OB in their office? Mine mentioned I have the option of going to a specialist, but I'm not sure what people normally do.
  • @ckmb_knottie Mine is being done at my normal ob office.
  • @ckmb_knottie My OB doesn't do ultrasounds so all of mine have been with a MFM specialist
  • @ckmb_knottie Most women will have their anatomy scan at their regular OB office (so long as the office provides that service). High risk patients may or may not have it done with an MFM, depending on the preference of the OB office and patient. Most regular OB offices are very capable of completing a thorough and complete anatomy scan. If they find something possibly irregular, they can and often will refer at that point to a MFM.
  • @ckmb_knottie my OB office only does scans up to 12/13 weeks and then they send me to another place for my anatomy scan. It's a big practice but I think their machines aren't set up for it? I am not sure if the place I go is a "high risk" ultrasound office or what, they've never told me. But my pregnancies have been low risk and uncomplicated and I still go to this place, so I wouldn't be worried about it unless they specifically said they have a concern.

  • My OB is also not an independent practice, like they work within one hospital's network and the anatomy scan place is part of that network. I actually don't even have a choice in where I deliver with my OB's practice, and the several doctors they rotate days at the hospital so it's not a guarantee that my particular OB delivers my baby. I've had different doctors deliver my first two babies and my OB already knows she's not scheduled around my due date this time either. It's not a deal breaker for me.

  • I'm going to a different place and my OB mentioned "high risk" I think just because I'm AMA, but I also know they don't have the equipment at his office. Kind of annoying because I didn't have the order until today and the place close to my house was fully booked...so now we are going to a place by my husband's work.
  • With DS it was in the same office but different person (i was high risk) but all my regular scans were performed by my ob. With this one it’s a different office (not high risk). My early ultrasounds were in the same office but different person (not the doctor).
  • I go to a different place. My provider's office has the equipment, but because I'm AMA their policy is to have the scans done at another location they partner with.

@MichelleAG05 I've been taking Ortho Molecular Prenatal - it's 4 pills once a day and it's a bit pricey but I've been happy with it. The iron, etc is easily digestible so I've never had a problem with it upsetting my stomach. Kinda hard to find though - I get it on Nutrikey.net. Ortho Molecular in general has a good reputation-My Dr has recommended that brand in the past.
  • Thanks @ckmb_knottie. I checked this thread this morning and didn't see anything so I went ahead and ordered Zohler on Amazon.  If I don't like them I may check those out!
  • @ckmb_knottie I go to a perinatal center for the NT scan and anatomy scan that is part of the same hospital network as my provider. @MichelleAG05 - I take Nature Made prenatal (has iron) and then drink DHA added milk.  But I had also looked at supplements.  The Nature Made prenatal with DHA was SO gross - super fishy.

  • How long is it recommended to use prenatals with DHA? I have some without DHA left over from when I was doing IVF treatments. And I am currently taking the nature made with DHA and agree they are gross AF
  • Anyone else having extreme hair loss? Like worse than post partum and to the point your noticing balding? I'm 18 weeks and have taken my prenatal daily.
  • @kbernal2021 I would check with your doctor, I know some women’s thyroids can go wonky during pregnancy.
  • @acunamatada would I show other symptoms if it were my thyroid? Hair loss is it for me. I'm not having weight gain or an appetite but my Dr didn't seem concerned about the weight gain or no appetite since that can be common in pregnancy
  • Here’s a new one i haven’t seen before. Twisting. I was on the floor organizing last night and twisted around, while sitting cross legged, to throw something away. It was almost a twist as one would do if they were trying to crack their back. I felt a quick sharp pinch and then nothing after, but it FREAKED me out that i did something horrible. I googled the heck out of it last night and got reassurance but have any of you ladies done something like this before?
  • @And846 sounds like round ligament pain. Sometimes if I roll over in bed too fast it can be seriously ouch.
  • @kbernal2021 hair loss has always been the way i know my thyroid is out of wack. My weight won’t dramatically change either. Worth getting it checked if your losing that much.
  • Thanks ladies. I have another appointment on the 27 and will ask my Dr about it
  • I've been taking the Your Life prenatal.  I don't love them, but last night I noticed one had popped open and I started gagging at the fish smell.  Yuck!
  • I've been constipated for the last 5 days. Finally was able to go yesterday and strained, I know not good. However, all I could think about was hurting the baby from straining so hard. I REALLY wanted to poop.
From what I've read, I'm only going to cause myself hemorrhoids. However, am I being a total n00b asking if straining too hard when pooping will hurt the baby?
