Re: STM+ Check-in February

  • I hate when I can’t tell if it’s actually baby kicking or gas bubbles. Being pregnancy #5 (baby #3) you would think I would know by now

Haha! So true! When I was pregnant with DD, I remember thinking I was feeling her moving around. Then two seconds later I’d fart. Nope, not baby! Haha

  • I try to assume it's all gas at least until 14 weeks, just to not get my hopes up and feel foolish before then. First one I didn't feel until about 19 weeks.

  • So this is my third time around and I’m having the same attitude about L&D that I had last time. Med-free vaginal and “Psh...I got this.”

But then I start thinking about the belly presses and the week of contractions PP while nursing and I’m all like, “Nooooooooo!!!!!”

  • @Jlynn3 I forgot about the uterine “massage!”  That’s a whole new level of hell! My hospital does it routinely on all women. Bleh. Not looking forward to the breastfeeding contractions. They were tolerable last time but I hear it gets worse with each delivery.
  • @Wishilivedinflorida yeah, I didn’t have any contractions PP nursing my first. After #2 it was like, “WTF is this?!”

Oh man, those pp contractions while nursing were awful :s I am not looking forward to those again.
  • How are things going with this pregnancy?

Things are going ok. My food aversions are all over the place. I feel like a toddler who will eat nothing but one thing one hour and then violently reject it the next.

    Any concerns currently?

Not really. Mostly just worried about making sure DH gets his CF carrier test done.

Positive/exciting things going on with current child(ren)?

DD has been so sweet. We will be registering her for kindergarten soon!

    Any concerns/frustrations with current child(ren)?

No real concerns or frustrations lately. She's mostly been acting like a typical 4 y/o.
  • For me, the pp contractions weren't terrible but it was the gush that came with them that was my problem. I never loss urine control, and that felt like peeing myself so bad...and then murder scene when I went to clean up...

  • For me, it was somewhere between period cramps and contractions. TMI warning, they would almost always result in me running to the bathroom to poop my guts out, end TMI.

    And ugh the blood :s

Same. I didn't really get contractions but oh man, when I stood up after? Gush! I had a bad allergic reaction to my pp pads so I spent a week or so bare butt sitting on a stack of old towels so my lady bits could air out and settle down. Yeah, poor hubby had to scrub a fair amount of blood off the floor. Sorry, not sorry, hubby, we're in this together!
  • I distinctly remember cleaning up blood spots off the bathroom floor with a towel at the hospital so DH and visitors could use the bathroom without concern I was dying or getting grossed out.

I felt #1 from the outside at 17 weeks and #2 at 16 weeks

  • @Wishilivedinflorida I didn't know the contractions got worse with each baby. The first baby they were horrendous.
  • @ble1 That’s what I’ve heard from many other women. I’ve only had one baby so I’m a little afraid of what is to come!
  • @stothi I had an allergic reaction to my pp pads too, but didn’t realize until I was about to get discharged thanks to an allergic reaction to my epidural tape (that one I had warned them of)... so basically I went home with my entire back and butt covered in red itchy bumps. (Don’t worry ladies, that isn’t common.) I have no idea what I will use instead this time.
  • @ble1 I didn’t have any PP nursing contractions with #1. I had them every nursing session with #2 for a solid week. They were like labor contractions. Just be forewarned.

I was using Always pads. They say they are latex free but when I Googled latex allergy stuff they showed up on the no no list. I have a bit of a latex allergy so, yeah, that's a problem. I don't remember which all brands the internet said was safe but I believe Kotex was one of them. I'll go dig around the depths of my cupboards in a bit and see if I can find a few of the other pads that I found were ok. They are all bulky and I swear do not absorb nearly as well as the Always pads do, but it's better than having your whole hoo ha on fire. I'm also considering cloth pads for this time. I did discovered that I can use the Always pads- as long as it's only occasionally. So I would use the bulky Kotex at home and if I was going out to run an errand or a doctor's visit or something I'd use an Always pad for that and change back to the other brands as soon as I got home.
  • @JLyn821 They were horrendous with my 1st, hearing they get worst makes me scared for #2. I think they definitely make it harder to bf when you know they are coming, but that is still a bit of time away
  • @stothi eek, I hope you find something that works for you. My allergy isn’t to latex, I had an issue with the blue pads they basically turn into a diaper for you in the hospital. I really have no idea what I’ll use this time.

Well, damn. That's complicated. Can you just bring your own jumbo pads and hope they are enough?

That’s most likely what I’ll end up doing. I might bring some Depends too.
  • @yosemite2018 I have friends who swear by Depends.

Blue pads? Just curious, were they normal hospital pads but blue?? Mine from the hospital were white.

A bit embarassing but I got sent home with so many supplies that I still have a full bag of assorted stuff...Those thin throwaway mesh underwear, the pads and those instant ice packs. Hmmm should probably check expiration on those.
  • Team depends here. So much easier for those first few days home. I still have a ton of them in my closet. Even though I brought a bunch of pads and mesh undies home from the hospital I realized depends were a lot less work to prep and dispose of.

  • @Lcardinal04 they were these... they put them under me on the hospital bed, plus they put 2 regular pads down the middle of these, then mesh underwear over, essentially creating a diaper. I had a rash everywhere these touched after 2 days, but luckily since the pads were what actually touched my private areas, those were spared.

  • @yosemite2018 interesting! My head was totally picturing something different. It's also interesting that different hospitals obviously have different protocol about what they do/use... which is nice to know their are options.
My hospital had oversized rectangular white pads, on top of that went the instant ice packs, then a regular pad, then the circular rounds thingies I'm blanking on the name of... they have witch hazel in them. I don't think any of that had laytex.
  • From the hospital I always take a few extra bags of mesh panties and one more package of the jumbo pads also I ask for another pack of diapers to bring home.

@yosemite2018 I have never seen a nurse turn a chux pad into a diaper. That sounds miserable and so uncomfortable

  • @megnwingate it wasn’t uncomfortable until I found out I was allergic... at that point I just used mesh panties with pads.

The problem is I have no idea what I am allergic to in it, so it’s hard to avoid. But I know the pads were fine so I am safe with those. I had 2 other allergic reactions (epidural tape and one from an antibiotic I got during delivery that showed up a week later). Thanks to these 3 things, recovery was worse than childbirth for me.
  • Just wanted to update y'all. We got DD's tubes put in this morning. She handled it like a champ. Woke up, drank 2 bottles, slept for 40 minutes, ate lunch, and is out again. I think the anesthesia hit her kind of hard, but she hasn't been grumpy so that's good. One of her ears was borderline infected again...I'm so glad we did this and hopefully can prevent future infections.
  • @Patience7150 so glad it went well! It makes a world of difference
  • @Patience7150 happy to read your update! Glad she was a trooper, it’ll only go up from here!
