It's reassuring to hear "It's different when it's your own..." because little kids make me so nervous. I have no experience interacting with them. Pets and animals in general, I get. But with kids I'm always afraid they're going to hurt themselves in my presence and then either blame me (my 2yo nephew said I hit him, when he ran full speed into the side of a picnic table without looking where he was going), or that then I'll be left with a squalling child and no clue what to do. lol
Or like yesterday sitting for 3 hours in the second floor lobby of the women's hospital people watching mostly and watching small children and their occasional tantrums over stupid shit. Like, really? You dropped your crayon, why are you rolling on the floor bawling about it...
ETA, then there was the cute little girl, no idea how old she was....with the cutest little antenna-like pigtails bouncing on top of her head and I swear she looked and sounded just like "Boo" from Monsters Inc. You couldn't help but grin at her as she was playing around her little personality was infectious.
I don’t like other people’s kids. lol. Okay I like some of them. But I avoid places like chuckee cheese like the plague because omg. Kids. Kids are gross.

I still get irrationally nervous holding other people's babies. I worry my arms are going to give out and i will drop the baby. But my own...I can balance him on one hip while juggling 7 balls and cooking dinner. There's just a comfort that develops, I guess?
I don’t know ladies. I find my 3 year old pretty darn annoying like I feel like I just don’t like him right now. I love him of course but i don’t enjoy this age at all. My favorite is 9-18months. Hoping I enjoy my oldest when he hits 5 or something and I look at my youngest everyday and think “I’m so sad you’re gonna be an annoying 2/3 year old soon.”
my fffc is I’ve always wanted a girl and experienced disappointment with my last two being boys, nothing that lasted long of course cause they are pretty darn cute kids. But now that I am having a girl I’m scared she will be the tea party doll playing type. I was never liked that. But I thoroughly enjoy shopping and make up. So I hope she is a mix like me otherwise I’ll shoot myself or threaten to go back to work full time if I find myself playing dolls or tea party on the reg basis.
I found DS incredibly annoying when he was a toddler. I love him dearly, but by the end of the day I was practically shoving him at DH during the toddler stage. Now that he’s getting older, he’s easier and harder to deal with in various ways.
IMO a lot of behavior has to do with conditioning & what the kid expects. If the kid knows a tantrum will get him nothing, he’ll be less likely to throw a tantrum. If he thinks throwing a screaming tantrum will get him what he wants, he’ll be more likely to throw screaming tantrums. Of course that only applies when kids are old enough to understand the idea of a reaction or consequence for a behavior.
It really is different when it’s your own kid because you just completely know them, but my kid is probably one that other parents wouldn’t necessarily like. 18 months old and so whiney and has tantrums frequently (usually they’re because I can’t give him my undivided attention in the evening bc I’m making dinner and he hasn’t seen me while at daycare). My personality is almost too laid back and DH and his family have some of the highest levels of anxiety I’ve ever seen, so I honestly think a lot of a kid’s personality and temperament is nature. Trust me, I’m trying to nurture it out of him though
Until he’s throwing food on the ground and (happy) screaming in a restaurant. Then...maybe not.
I remember the pre-DS days when I’d side eye parents for giving their kids phones/tablets whatever to play with at restaurants. Now I look back at old me and laugh at how judgemental and naive I was!!
October BMB has a “bump” thread (already showing) and I’m sitting here doing the math and anyone in that BMB would have to be 3-6 weeks... right? Right??

I would do that if it worked. He would just throw that, too!

God forbid anyone actually say that to them though, right??

Go to restaurants where they have those tablet things on the table already and you can pay a dollar for games or to watch cartoons. Those things are heavy AF lol. What do I know though, DS tried to eat some of his actual menu tonight. Just when I start thinking he’s a clever little dude...

My FFFC: I’m so overwhelmed by the 200 messages in weekly randoms that I need to catch up on that I’m just gunna wait until weekend randoms tomorrow instead. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also iPhone corrected randoms to two different words in that paragraph originally: fandoms and ransoms. Both were pretty funny.

Agreed on the whole "you'll like your kid because it's your kid" thing. Which I'm hoping is still true in 2 years lol. I really don't like 5 year olds much. I don't like toddlers much either, but I adore DS *most* days. Some days I just count the minutes until bedtime. Give me ALL the babies though. All of em.
