I that gif!!! So not sure if I should save this for tmi Tuesday but, um, this whole lightning crotch thing... wtf? I thought it was a 3rd tri thing when the baby drops? I never had it with DS but holy crap! Feeling like I’m being stabbed in the cervix from the inside, I’m guessing that’s what this is?
@mrsbubbles-2 right there with you! I didn’t have it until a lot later with DS, and never with my first pregnancy. But I’m having it randomly, plus RLP on top/next to my pubic bone, so it’s a whole lot of wonderful (sarcasm) feelings down there.

Isn’t nausea supposed to get better in 2nd tri? I never had much nausea with DS but this time it’s ridiculous. I’ll be 14w on Thursday, and my nausea & throwing up are getting worse instead of better.
Same with me @amac12999 I feel like my meds are wearing off faster, like I need to take another after 3 hours instead of 4 hours. I’m throwing up more this week than I did last week, usually either the hour before I can take another pill or in the 30 mins after I take a pill.
Not really baby related, but does anyone have tips for going vegetarian? DH and I talk about it from time to time, and I planned all meatless dinners this week to test the waters. I still like meat but maybe we’ll be mostly vegetarian and only buy meat from local farms or something. It’s been something I’m mulling over so if anyone has any ideas, please share! Thanks!
@melprop so I was sick until about week 22 or 24 with my first, and actually threw up at week 30 because I ate some brussel sprouts, which I had an aversion to last pregnancy. (I usually love them and DH made them as a treat, so I ate them to be nice. Horrible idea)
Hope it doesn't last as long for you guys but unfortunately it's totally normal for some pregnancies.
@ladygali - I went veg for 2 years and DH and I will go back and forth occasionally. Make sure you plan for plenty of snacks, DH would get hangry super quick because the protein shift was pretty significant for him. Pinterest has tons of meatless meal ideas for inspiration. I spent a weekend making some veggie lasagna and veggie soups to freeze so we always had something quick on hand. The first week was the toughest for us to adjust so I think you've got a great plan for this week!
@ladygali I used to be vegetarian. I honestly went "cold turkey" one day and so it was a pretty big adjustment. Unfortunately, I had some pretty bizarre things happen that were a result of being vegetarian. Most people keep stores of B12 in their bodies for a long time but my body essentially ran out after a few years (despite vitamins and eating eggs). It was really strange. Biggest problem was my body ITCHED. And it wasn't just my skin. It was like, under my skin. I would claw myself bloody and bruised in my sleep but nothing helped because I needed B12, not fingernails. I went back to eating meat "cold turkey" and haven't had a problem since. I have a lot of issues with the meat industry in general which is why I went vegetarian in the first place but I don't mindlessly eat meat anymore. It's definitely a respect thing now. Hope you can follow that, I need coffee.
@mrsbubbles-2 thanks! Yeah, the protein is what I’m most concerned about since it’s the only thing that keeps me really full. So many veg meals are just pasta, lol.
@Firemanswife11 ooh, I could not deal with itchy. I got itchy just reading your post, lol. But, yeah, the meat industry is awful so that’s why I hope I can get DH on board with buying from a local farmer. Thanks for the heads up about B12.
Has anyone used a board or seat for the back of the stroller for a toddler? I'm looking for something my oldest will be able to use when the twins come (he'll be 22-23 months). Right now I'm eyeing the Englacha 2-in-1 Cozy X Rider, but didn't know if something worked for any of the STM+.
@ladygali We do a meatless monday every week and that has been a nice little change during the week. I did try to go vegetarian once in college, but I did it really poorly and without much thought to my protein or nutritional intake (ie - lots of cheese, bread, and processed snacks). Needless to say, that didn't last long. Now when I do our meatless monday's, it's a little more planned out and I eat a variety of stuff to get protein. I still feel really hungry on those days though..
I guess the biggest advice would be to really be cognizant of your nutritional intake and be careful you're getting enough quality protein.
@Piperella I had a sit & stand stroller several years ago. DS was about 2yo, and I was watching my 1yo niece FT. It was the same concept as you’re talking about, and I loved it. I only had a single jogging stroller, so I had to buy a separate stroller instead of buying a stroller accessory. But the sit/stand worked great for DS. We even used it on family trips with DS’s sister & her kids, so that the older (4yo+) one’s has the option of riding if they wanted to.
@melprop The problem with the sit and stand is that I am having twins, so I need two stroller seats and the additional seat/board for my oldest. It would be so easy if I just were going to have two kiddos.
My doc said the nausea may last until about week 18, as late as week 20. Bleh. Lost my breakfast again this morning. It's become so regular, my toddler now tells people, "mommy tummy hurting. baby hurting mommy's tummy."
We aren't 100% vegetarian, but we try to do it as often as possible. I really only buy chicken, and occasionally bacon (because baconnnnn). We do lots of fish dishes and stuff with beans. Black beans, lentils, and chickpeas are our favs. We should start up the meal plan thread again to help share more veg ideas!
Also interested to hear about the ride-behind boards. I think we'll end up getting one too, after baby #2 outgrows baby wearing (which for me is around 6 months-ish). I'm worried about two things: One, I've heard it's a pain to push the stroller because you always kick the board. And two, how hard is it to fold the stroller or detach that to collapse the stroller? We have to pull the stroller into a corral at daycare, which means collapsing it. Also, we have 4 steps up to our front door, so how would I bump the stroller up the steps with it attached?
@Piperella have you looked at a City Select? You can get a double in that for the twins and a platform called a jogger for your older one. According to the website, the platform will fold up with the stroller. Since they’re all made by baby jogger, they should be compatible.
This is probably stupid... but could there be something wrong if I’m ridiculously tired? Like a vitamin deficiency or something? I know fatigue is a symptom, but I get 8-9 hours most nights and I’ve been taking naps and still feeling tired. I feel like all my symptoms are so amplified compared to last time....

You're also momming a toddler. It's worth asking your OB but it's more than likely just a pregnancy symptom. I feel like I'm exhausted all of the time but my best friend this morning reassured me I'm working full time, I have 2 small kids, I'm growing a human, and I'm a single mom. Of course I'm tired.

I guess that’s it. And at least he still naps, too. And while I get 8-9 a night it is usually broken because of said toddler.... I just feel like such a bum right now. One more week in 1st Tri and here’s hoping it gets easier!

I used the Britax stroller a few years ago. It was a single or a double, with an attachment. So it was a smaller double. Which was nice. But was very roomy. You have to buy it in accessories. So it can be pricey. But it also had a board to attach to the back for a third kid. We had a train. Lol.
@mrsbubbles-2 yeah we will still eat fish and I should add that to the rotation more often. I never know when it’s done, lol! I once over cooked some cod and it was beyond gross. Lol.
@hezzer78 yeah I worry about quality protein and don’t want to just have pasta and crap. Thanks for the suggestions!
@westphilly thanks for the suggestions! I do a lot of cooking with beans already and do love lentils, so I think making the switch wouldn’t be too hard. I’m totally up for a recipe board!
@lalala2004 I am also extremely exhausted. My blood work came back with low red blood cells, so anemic? Must not be too bad because no one has called me panicked, lol. I think my iron tends to be low anyway. It’s worth a call to your doc or bring it up at your next appointment. I’m really hoping second tri brings me some more energy so I can actually rejoin my Rec center and exercise.
@ladygali Incorporating lots of beans, seeds, and nuts into your diet helps. Google vegetarian protein sources and pick what you like. Build recipes from there. I love seeds and nuts on salads. Helps replace the chicken. Also, look at gluten free pastas (often rice and corn or a lentil one) which can be more filling and nutritious. I also highly recommend Einkorn pasta and wheat if you can find it. Check out Jovial brand. Last thing, smoothies with chia seeds and nut butter are a great on the go vegetarian breakfast. And oatmeal keeps you full longer than you would think. Good luck!
@lalala2004 my midwife went over my blood work at my appointment today and mentioned that my iron was good so not anemic, which is why I thought of it. She pulled my blood at 8ish week appt.
also so make sure you are drinking enough water (it can make you feel tired if not), getting enough protein, and if you live in a cold place, I know I’m always so much more tired in the winter just bc of the cold
@pghctwife I probably haven’t been drinking enough water, which isn’t like me. It just hasn’t appealed to me as much. I need to do better about that and maybe that will help.
@lalala2004 Im in the same boat. It’s been a struggle to get water down. Definitely can tell I’m dehydrated. they also should have done a blood draw at one of your first appointments.
@lalala2004 I’d see if you can somehow track your iron levels, some people normally have higher levels and can be “anemic” for them without being low enough to be considered anemic and trigger any concern unless you are tracking over time. I had to switch prenatals because my levels dropped whereas in the past I’ve always had high iron levels so I was taking one without iron to avoid constipation (now colace is just my best friend).
*TTC History*
Me: 37, MH: 38; Married August 2017
TTC #1 October 2017: BFP on 12/1/2017, DD born 7/24/2018 @ 37+1 after induction due to preeclampsia
TTC #2 January 2020: AMA, dx with DOR in May 2020
IVF July 2020: 16 eggs retrieved, 14 mature, 12 fertilized, 3 blasts, 2 PGT-A normal
FET 10/7/20: BFP on 10/12/20!!! (EDD 6/25/21); First beta 10/16/20 (9dpt): 148; Second beta 10/19/20 (12dpt): 621; Third beta 10/26/20 (19dpt): 4732; Fourth (and final!) beta 11/2/20 (26 dpt): 22,000+
I did switch to a prenatal that was lower iron than the last one I was taking. I would assume if my levels were low they would have told me, but I’ll ask next time if I was borderline or something.
This is probably a dumb question, but I feel like I was rushed and didn't get a lot of information at my first appointment. I want to call my insurance and see if they cover NIPT, but I want the codes for it so I know which test my doctor uses. Can I just call my doctor and ask for a list of tests they do during a pregnancy? Or should I just wait until my next appointment in two weeks? I'll be 13 weeks at that appointment, which just seems late to ask about NIPT since it seems like so many of you had it done a lot earlier.
@melbel0824 you could try the nurse line or front desk and ask for the codes used on NIPT. I didn’t have it done, but did do this with a different test and they gave me a paper to come pick up at the front desk that has the tests and codes on it. Then I used that to call insurance and had them give me my price for each test.
@melbel0824 yeah you can call, maybe ask for the billing person, they might be best able to help you with the info you want.
Going forward it's always a good idea to keep a list of questions in your phone or something, cause inevitably once we see/hear those adorable babies we forget all the important stuff we wanted to ask.
Thanks @livinthesunnylife and @kburg15 I'll give them a call later today. My first appointment was kind of terrible because they had a toilet overflow in their main office and moved me (and 20 other patients) to a smaller office meant for 4 patients. So the whole appointment was rushed because they were trying to cram a bunch of appointments in and not get too far behind. I'm hopeful my next appointment will be a lot smoother and I already have some questions written down.
@lalala2004 I’m in the same boat with being ridiculously exhausted all of the time. I blame my toddler. Does your OB have a patient portal to go on and view results? I’m OCD about looking over my stuff, even though my OB goes over everything at my appointment. I know for me, an iron panel wasn’t part of my initial blood work. My hemoglobin is always on the lower end of normal and I haven’t been the greatest at taking my iron lately.
Is there a time limit on the NIPT like there is on the NT? My doc told me the NT had to be done between 11 and 13 weeks, but I assume that that is because it's an ultrasound and not a blood test.
