@lakesideknitter you actually can use breastfeeding for birth control if you practice ecological breastfeeding and follow the rules. But few people do that. Apparently it’s pretty effective, however, some of it depends on your baby. If they sleep long stretches throughout the night, it’s not reliable.
@kc0711 I consider NFP preventing, maybe with less than 100% effort, but just like "trying" there is a spectrum of how hard you're trying. I have never used fewer than two forms of birth control except when trying to conceive, and for me pulling down the barriers was definitely an attempt to get pregnant.

Yeah, after knowing so many people that struggle to TTC and knowing that both times we had to "try", I really don't believe much in "accidents". The meaning of that word does not apply. You either weren't being careful, or you knew exactly what you were doing....
Not true...I was not trying actually actively preventing, I had mirena IUD and still got pregnant so there are those cases where there are genuine accidents.
Mother to Joelle (13), Jaxen (3) and Jayla (due 5/6)
@lalala2004 I did some reading. It's an interesting concept, but it wouldn't work for anyone who goes back to work or is against cosleeping. And you'd still have no way of knowing if your body did ovulate even when it's not 'supposed' to.

Most people don't realize that if your kid is going longer than 3 hours during the day, or 4 hours at night, between feeds, this is no longer effective. It is also not effective if you are pumping rather than directly nursing. Doctors aren't great at explaining it either. My period has always come back right after my kids started STTN. But at my 8w appointment, the ultrasound tech, both nurses I dealt with, and my doctor basically could not believe I got pregnant while exclusively breastfeeding a 5 month old, even though she'd been STTN for two months and my period had already come back. It's crazy.
Between DD1 and DD2 I was temping and my LPs were super short while I was breastfeeding, like so short that implantation would have been nearly impossible, so I incorrectly assumed that was happening again this time and i didn't bother tracking anything. I'd advise not making that assumption if you are super against getting pregnant. You're going to want to do full NFP even if you're exclusively breastfeeding in that case.
We’re going to a big outdoor expo with friends today. It has free wine, beer, cider, and mead tasting, and I’m tempted to try a sip of a couple things. We can’t buy mead or hard cider around here, and I’m curious as to whether I’d like them.

I say go for it! A few sips aren't going to do anything negative at all. Mead and hard cider are delicious. Have fun!
I figure I’ll want a couple sips after a 2hr car ride and walking around a huge convention center all day. It sounds fun, but I’m definitely taking my nausea Rx and Tylenol with me.
@melprop I would definitely take a few sips to try it. I don’t think I’ve ever had mead so I’d want to try it, too. I’ve had a few sips of my husband’s drinks because I really missing relaxing with a cocktail in the evening.
I’ll pipe in on the board organization thing. I understand that we are just trying to build a community for later, but I hardly read anything anymore and find myself lacking the energy to wade through generic threads for something that interests me. Maybe my FFFC is that I’m extremely lazy?

Yeah birth control fails... my first loss was conceived on the minipill. Which is notoriously unreliable, but bc nonetheless.

True! I found it so interesting to compare my 3 kids and when my period came back, because it totally correlated with their habits. The child who was least attached, who wasn’t so snuggly, who would nap in his crib and with whom I worked - but he still ebf etc it came back at 10m. My koala baby who was super attached, I baby wore constantly, I was home and he wouldn’t take a bottle, never used his crib... I had to TRY to get my period back at 18m to try.

The 3rd was sort of in between on both counts.
It’s funny how babies are born with such strong personalities already. I never realised it would be the case until I had DS. He has always been a very attached child and we EBF and co slept for a long time. I’m so interested to see how baby #2 will be!!

Yeah, it really wouldn’t work for most people. And who would actually want their kid waking up every two hours for that long? And yeah, there is a failure rate, but no birth control is 100% effective, even with “perfect use”.
Now for me, my fertility didn’t return for almost 18 months. We could have had as much unprotected sex as we wanted with no baby. In fact, we started “trying” for 3 months before my period returned, with obviously no luck. It wasn’t until my period returned and I confirmed ovulation that I got my BFP. But there was no way of knowing that at the time.
I tried the mead and the hard cider. They were so good! I got their card with a website where I can buy the stuff and have it shipped.
The outdoor expo was fun, but it was more big boats, jet skis, stuff we can’t really use in the sticks. We looked at nice kayaks - possible upgrades in the future. I also dragged DH into the campers and convinced him that a mini one would be perfect for roadtripping in the summers. Now we’re at REI.
MH has a vasectomy, and I had an IUD, between the two we were pretty covered! I'll probably get another IUD after kid is born. An accidental pregnancy would truly be a miracle.
Me:32 DH:45 DSD: 20 DSS: 18 Team green baby due: Aug 6th, 2018
I believe DH's exact words were "as soon as this kid is out and determined to be alive, I'm getting snipped" so I won't have to worry much about birth control going forward. Before we were married, I was on the pill and insisted on also using condoms, and DH thought that was overkill, but apparently I'm quite fertile, so I'm glad we did that!
Another one whose DH will get snipped post #2! We are for sure done after this and he’s all for it. I was on the pill because I had the worst time with the Mirena. I have to be on something because of horrible Ovulation pain (it started after DS and it’s excruciating and I’m miserable for about 4 days). I’ll need to talk with my OB on my options because I’m afraid I’ll be too forgetful with a toddler and newborn for the pill again!
I told DH I’ll get my tubes tied if he doesn’t get snipped after this baby. I wish I could get the copper IUD, but ins won’t cover it. The last time I checked it was almost $1K, which is more than my ins deductible and out of pocket max combined.
@lakesideknitter it’s not super common, but I was still nursing, even at night. Some women have to wean completely for it to come back, so I’m just lucky that wasn’t me!

My BFF got pregnant with kiddo #1 while on the depot shot and she was doing everything on schedule. I’m on team no Bc is 100% effective.
We're just getting started! DH and I are planning to start working on number 2 by late 2019. My best friend is hopefully going to get married by fall 2019 so I won't be KU you for maid of honor duty.

Same! I’d like to start trying for #2 when this one turns 1. I am done after 2 though, I’ll probably get my tubes tied after the second is born seemingly healthy.

FET 10/7/20: BFP on 10/12/20!!! (EDD 6/25/21); First beta 10/16/20 (9dpt): 148; Second beta 10/19/20 (12dpt): 621; Third beta 10/26/20 (19dpt): 4732; Fourth (and final!) beta 11/2/20 (26 dpt): 22,000+
Dh is team ‘get fixed asap’ too lol. I’m torn. I’m kinda sick of bc and I’ve heard way too many iud horror stories but on the other hard lighter periods and no more ovulation pains (which can be awful) sounds appealing...
This 3rd is a surprise. DH has just had an appt to talk about the V and we decided to wait a little longer because we are “still young”. I was scheduled for an IUD and then found out i was pregnant.
even though this baby was not planned, we will still wait on the V and I will try an IUD. But if my body doesn’t like it, DH will get the V.
