Weekend Random 1/27-1/28

What are you ladies doing this weekend?

I wanted to take DH to I fly for his birthday, but they are all booked for the weekend. I ended up scheduling for Monday which is his actual birthday so I guess that is ok. Other than that I am going to be relaxing because we have no plans. I do need to go to Walmart, which I am dreading.

We are about to go to breakfast and grocery shopping. Tonight we are going to a birthday party dinner thing for DH’s friend. His friend knows I am pregnant but apparently his wife doesn’t yet (?) which I find weird but whatev. I need to do a ton of work this weekend too, I was a slacker during the work week and am behind on billable hours  :(

Today is Ds birthday and I feel so bad because he’s so sick. We were going to take him out for his choice of activity today but it’s looking like a lounge on the couch and rub his back day. We’ll see if he perks up at all.

@cthulu hope he feels better soon!

Its not even 10:30 and I just ate leftovers from Olive Garden. I thought the carbyness would help easy my tummy but no. It sounded good at the time :mask:

@ecwk Olive Garden sounds amazeballs right now! I’m sorry it made you feel worse though!

I'm on call from home this weekend which basically means I can't make any real plans... So a built in excuse to do nothing substantial. We have a housewarming party to stop by this evening if possible. Otherwise I just plan on doing a little bit of junk for work and maybe work on my baby quilt. I've been working on it since before I knew baby T (That's what I started calling our fetus/baby/future kiddo this week) was a reality, and am close to finished with the top piecing. Maybe I will post a picture when more put together!

As far as the baby T name goes--its been working for me! I'm team green but have a big feeling that the baby is a boy. Our last name starts with T and "T" was my DH's nickname almost his whole life because there were so many Michael's in his class. So baby T just seems to fit! Makes me feel better than constantly saying "the baby" or "he or she" or the dreaded "it."

Hope you all have wonderful weekends!
@legallykate good luck getting work done. I always have such high hopes for that too on the weekends.
@cthulu hope he feels better or you both at least have an enjoyable lazy day.
@ecwk hope your stomach settles! I've been making weird food decisions that always sounds good at the time, but not always 30 min later. At least we are eating, right?

MH and I are playing D&D with a group of friends tomorrow, and I'm hoping to get in a couple hours of skating both today and tomorrow. Thing is, first I've got to get myself off of the couch and fed, which as of yet isn't happening. Is it nap time yet?

@ssthomps that sounds so fun! Have you done it before? I'm thinking about renting DH a fancy convertible for the day for his birthday this summer. Apparently there are sites for this similar to airbnb, but I need to look into it more.
    @cthulu  hope he feels better!
@doctormom33  good luck with the quilt! I have a baby blanket I started knitting when I was pregnant with DS almost 3 years ago that I have yet to finish.

No big plans for this weekend other than a project for grad school and pulling out/sorting/washing my maternity clothes.

Hi girls! I’m currently watching How To Get Away With Murder while DS is watching Dinotrux haha. DH has drill this weekend so we’re taking it easy and cleaning. We have a play date later this evening including bowling and dinner with DS’s girlfriend from school and her parents haha

@ecwk I'm looking forward to my leftovers! But they're at my house and I am at my moms.

DH drove my brother and my parents to the optometrist while I went to a PD. So I'm waiting at my mom's house (since it was closer to where my PD was) for them to come get me so we can all go get lunch.

@lakesideknitter no we haven’t. A coworker of ours did it for her anniversary and showed me a video of it. I think DH will dig it. My neighbor did this for her husband for Father’s Day and he was ecstatic. I felt like a shitty wife, because my husband got a card with candy LMAO.

@cthulu oh no poor baby and on his birthday. Hopefully he will feel better a little later.

@lalala2004 I am so jealous. What city do you live in again? And I have heard the tickets to Hamilton are always sold out.

@lalala2004 I got tickets last Christmas for Hamilton in Chicago last summer and it was awesome. Then, long story, but we got the broadway series here and are seeing Hamilton next summer from the 4th row!!!! I may have tried to plan getting pregnant not around our ticket date  B)

I'm just hanging out, wishing my 7 month old would TAKE A FUCKING NAP that lasts longer than 20 minutes so I can sit on the couch, but doesn't look like that is happening today.  Wonderful.  She'll sleep 12-13 hours overnight, which is magical, but I cannot entertain her for 12 straight hours during the day.  I'm going to lose my mind.

Even if daycare cost 4 times what it actually does I'd still pay it.  No way could I do this 7 days a week.  At least DD1 is napping.  Small victories.

@ssthomps How fun! I tried to get my principals to approve a field trip for my students there but they denied me and said it was too pricey and too short - BOO.

@cthulu Hope he feels better soon! Although, nowadays, if I spent my birthday laying on the couch while someone rubbed my back, I'd be ecstatic :)

@derbysquirrel H and I play D&D too! I played a lot in college, but just started a group up with some of our friends. It's a lot of fun.

I fell asleep last night at like 7:45 and didn't get out of bed until 7 AM. It was great. I've done a bit of cleaning and some yoga and an arm workout. I'm eating subway for lunch and plan on laying around the rest of the day. I have to write a paper tomorrow and grade some labs so I'm trying to maximize my lazy time today.

I left at 9:30 to go to the grocery store. I stopped to get my eyebrows done, then stopped for a bagel with cream cheese, and ate that while I just sat in the car and listened to music. DH probably wondered what the hell took so long, but he didn’t ask so I didn’t say.

DS is better. Day 3 of no fever And has his appetite back today, so if it’s nice out tomorrow, we may take him to the zoo. He also slept until 8:30 today which was amazing!

@ecwk I hope you feel better. I hate when that happens.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

We went to the outlet mall this morning because DS is growing like a weed and needs 4T shirts and 3T pants (he will be 3 in May). He’s huge! None of the stores had anything maternity and nothing cute for me. We stopped for lunch after and now DS is napping and I’m taking a bath. Ahhhh relaxation, even if it’s short lived.

I just saw Hamilton on Broadway in September. It was great, but both of my parents (mid to late 60s) fell asleep and couldn't follow the dialogue. They still claimed to enjoy it, lol. They also fell asleep through parts of Avenue Q and Book of Mormon. They are really bad at theater.

We just took a family nap and it was beautiful. All 4 of us took a nap and now DS and me are awake so we’re just cuddling while the other two still sleep. I should probably go wake up the little one, but she never lets me cuddle DS; she’s a mamas girl and thinks she’s the only one allowed to be clingy with me. That girl has a rude awakening coming.

We dropped DS off with my parents today and went to an outdoor expo in Pittsburgh with friends. Two hrs each way in the car wasn’t fun but I managed. The expo was ok. Then we stopped at an outlet mall on the way home. I went into Motherhood Maternity hoping to find a pair of maternity jeans, but they only had a “distressed” pair of skinny jeans that didn’t have the big belly panel. So I’ll have to go somewhere else to shop for maternity clothes. DH was invited to a friend’s party on the way home, so I had my parents keep DS overnight. Now I’m laying on the couch watching TV by myself. Will probably go to bed around 7:30.

We went to Red Robin for dinner last night and I decided to try something different from my usual and it wasn’t good. Food disappointment, especially while pregnant, sucks. The kids behaved so well though, so there’s that.

I’ve been trying to find a used double stroller and I’m about over it. Why post something for sale and then not respond to a potential buyer/ just stop responding randomly/ be a huge twat? If it’s sold, cool just say so. Ignoring someone is just plain rude.

Am I a schmuck because we're probably getting a lot of things (with the exception of a crib, a bassinet, and a swing) new? It's our first baby and we'll probably save a lot, but I kind of want to get my stuff new.

Also, sobbing my face off watching 'The First Wives Club'. One of my absolute favorite movies.

Nothing wrong with that. If your pockets are not affected, then buy what you want. We only got a crib used and that was because my husbands coworkers insisted. I wanted a new one,so I just used the money to splurge on other nursery items. I am getting all new this time around as well because we got rid of everything. My daughter is four and I was tired of having things just hanging around the house that we were not using. Aside from the pack in play that was in the attic and a ergo babycarrier, we have nothing. I am also leary of buying things used because babies are gross and people are gross. And.....you just never know. I would have to do a close look over before I decide to purchase something. #flameaway

Edit to add this doesn’t pertain to things that are plastic and can be cleaned off really easily.

@jsnakehole I’m probably getting most things new too. My parents are really excited and want to get the big things for us so I’m not going to tell them no. Plus maybe I’m snobby but I really like new things.
  • Options
@jsnakehole You are not a schmuck. We got literally everything new for DD. She was our first and we knew we wanted a big family, so it will all be reused. I have zero guilt for spending that money.

I think part of it is that I've had to make due with a lot of hand-me-downs over the years (my prom dress, most of my furniture, a lot of my clothes), so I want all new things for my baby. The few hand-me-down baby things I'm getting are coming from my cousin or my aunt, so I know they took good care of them. My parents are buying us a changing table, and I'm sure my in-laws will buy us something nice for the baby's room (maybe a chair). And my mom will probably buy tons of clothes for my baby, so his or her (totally just wrote her at first, wishful thinking) clothes will be brand new. She can't help it. She already has things picked out to order as soon as she finds out what I'm having.

@jsnakehole I get that. It took me forever to get pregnant and I was always showering other’s for their babies, so I made sure to do the same for my baby. It was fun shopping and picking out things for her. Hindsight a lot of it I didn’t need,so I will definitely be more practical this time around.
  • Options
I think there’s something about a first baby that just makes us want new things and I find nothing wrong with that. I was like that and definitely agree that some used things that people try to sell are totally gross. Like, didn’t you think to wash that?

Here’s a pro tip someone told me: get a La Z Boy chair (or similar) for the nursery instead of one of those expensive gliders. It will be way more comfortable for all the rocking you’ll do and better quality.
  • Options
@jsnakehole I got a lot of hand-me-downs, especially with clothes, that were in good shape, but otherwise we bought most things new. I knew we wanted more than one kid, so I think it makes sense to do that. I know you can find good deals in garage sales and consignment, but I don’t like to put forth the effort to wade through the junk. But even buying new, you don’t have to buy every baby gadget that exists. Babies don’t have to be that much of an expense (especially since we cloth diaper). It’s teenagers that are really expensive

@jsnakehole we got everything new for DS. Crib and all.

This poor baby. We already bought a nice crib & dresser from a friend because she was selling it super cheap. I’m not sure what he’ll get that’s new.

DS 2 is getting a new crib because we tossed DS 1’s andnit was just from IKEA. Otherwise I literally have 5 years of clothes and toys. I’m sure I’ll get a few fresh things but not much
  • Options
@jsnakehole We are getting pretty much everything new as well. A friend offered a crib but, I think it might have some slight wear and tear and I might pass and get new.

We are going to dinner with DHs family to a restaurant that has bacon in everything. I looked at the menu and was practically drooling. DH said he is getting some drink with Bacon Vodka.

For DS we bought new as far as furniture, bigger gear like strollers, high chair, swing, etc. For toys and clothes that are often used for a shorter period of time, I hit up community yard sale days in nicer neighborhoods. I got a ton of name brand baby clothes for 75-90% off regular price, as well as things like a jumperoo and exersaucer. As long as I can put the stuff through the washer & dryer or easily sanitize it as in the case of plastic, I don’t have a problem buying used.

Note: I much prefer to buy in person at yard sales than buy online or on FB BST boards. I feel like I get better deals, don’t waste as much time, and don’t have the issue of photos looking great while the item is trash IRL,
