This will be our one and only kid, so my friends have offered to give us a ton of stuff. We may buy some big things new - car seat, stroller - but I imagine a lot of clothes and some cloth diapers we'll get from friends.
We kept everything from my 4 year old so I won’t have a lot to buy, hopefully the cloth diapers hold up. The only thing I want is a new stroller and infant car seat because we don’t have the car seat anymore and the stroller is gross after all these years
We are reusing DS crib and some bigger items like playmat, bouncer, jumpers, etc. We bought mainly new for him except for the RnP we got from friends. If #2 is a boy, he will definitely get hand me downs since we have SO many bins of clothes. We will for sure buy some new, but it’s just easier. For clothes these days we do a lot of outlet mall, super sales or consignment since he just gets them so dirty and rips the knees in every single pair of jeans!
We just bought our house over the summer and had a great experience with our realtor. We’ve kept in touch a bit and always tell him to come by if he’s in the area. (We live near a larger city in MI, so we looked over a span of like 4 towns, so not always convenient). He just showed the house across the street from Us so stopped by after. It was great to catch up and show him the things we’ve done. they sound like they might be putting in an offer and it’s a young couple relocating from a Chicago who have a 2yo boy!! I’m from Chicago and DH and I lived there for years before moving here and also have 2.5yo DS. I’m so pumped because there aren’t a lot of young kids on our block!
We bought/received a ton of new for our first! Now with our second, it will all be reused!
Today I online shopped for a few things I will hopefully be able to wear for awhile this pregnancy. I'm feeling very frustrated because I have been buying groceries with meals in mind for the week, and then the meal/cooking will sound just TERRIBLE to me some days. So we inevitably end up spending money eating out or my stomach is just in knots.
Babies 1 and 2 both had all brand new things. By the time number 3 came along, House was crowded and I just realized we didn’t need most of it. Now with number 4, I’m like over it. Lol. The shopping and registries are exhausting. Haha.
My goal is to not buy a single new item, though I may buy an infant car seat new for safety reasons. I'm sure I'll fail to some extent, but there is so much in great condition available in my area second-hand that I really want to focus on reducing and reusing as much as possible. Plus, I'm cheap. I'm lucky to have a few nice furniture pieces that were passed on to me, and I think I'll be able to outfit the baby's room pretty well without having to purchase anything. I have a dresser that I've stripped and intend to repaint, but it's been too cold to go outside and sand lately. Hopefully as the weather improves I'll be able to finish up that project.

I can’t find the cravings thread, but I want a cinnamon roll so bad it may keep me from sleeping. If I still want one in the morning I’m going to Whataburger for breakfast.

I bought the canned cinnamon rolls. They weren’t great but they did the trick. I may have to get one from whataburger tomorrow too, now that you mentioned it.
DS tested positive for Influenza A. FML. They prescribed Tamiflu, but it was going to cost $198 after insurance since they were out of the generic. Please tell me I’m not a bad mom for not spending the money?! The ped suggested I call my OB to see if they want me to take any precaution, but after reading a few of your experiences I’m not sure I want to take Tamiflu! Im just crossing everything that it is short lived for DS and the fever subsides. We have to keep him home from school until he’s fever free and we don’t have family nearby. Guess I’ll be going through all my PTO. Waahhhh!
@lolog531 when DS has type A in December, I didn’t get tamiflu. I was 7 weeks. Neither DH or I got it. Last week he has type B. I could only stomach about 2 days of the tamiflu. Did you got a flu shot? I’m thinking maybe the shot protected DH and I, but obviously did nothing for poor DS. I hope your son feels better soon.

DH and I both got the flu shot thankfully. I will probably decline the Tamiflu if they suggest it - we went to fill the script for DS and it was $200 even after insurance! That just seems a bit extreme.
How long did your sons last with type A? I know it can vary, but I’m really hoping we can kick this quickly!
@lolog531 honestly, he only ran fever 2 days with the type A. I was shocked when it was the flu because he started running fever on Sunday and by the time we went to the doctor on Tuesday he didn’t have fever anymore but was really really congested. We got tamiflu but he only took like 2 doses because he just kept spitting it all out anyways. I really hope he gets a mild case too and that you don’t get it.
Am I a schmuck because we're probably getting a lot of things (with the exception of a crib, a bassinet, and a swing) new? It's our first baby and we'll probably save a lot, but I kind of want to get my stuff new.
Also, sobbing my face off watching 'The First Wives Club'. One of my absolute favorite movies.
I often think of buying new through a cost-benefit analysis. I'm super busy...don't have time to be driving all over the place to look at things that people post on the FB marketplace. Don't have time to be scrolling through FB marketplace or going to those crazy consignment sales--have you ever been to one of those things? Insane! Ordering online, having it delivered--in one case, even assembled -- is so worth my time. Now, when friends have given us things, mostly clothes, I gladly accept them. So many of DS's clothes are hand-me-downs from my sister who graciously has mailed boxes across the country and other friends. But that is little time investment on my part.
