FTM Check-in {January}

Re: FTM Check-in {January}

  • @doxiemoxie212 Neat link :) My OB already said she won't let me past June 18th. Theoretically, I wouldn't care if I went early {full term - may 20} as long as all was good BUT it'd be so much better if little miss can wait until at least May 31st as that's prob my last day of work.

  • May 20th is a great day to be born!! (I might be biased)
  • +1 to love playing with these stats! I guess the thing to remember is that the probability of giving birth on any one day goes up over time. So that the probability of giving birth on your due date is 3% right now, but probably more like 5-10% once you get close to the date and haven't already gone into labor.

    I don't even know who to tag as it seems like we've all gotten some version of the questions, but neither commenting on a woman's bump size or asking if the baby was planned are ever ok. Isn't that common sense? Honestly, I understand why folks tend to default to asking about boy/girl and whether you've picked a name, because so many other questions are off-limits. But then to get ticked off if a mom doesn't have that info or doesn't want to share... ugh, people.

    How far along are you?? 18 weeks

    How are you feeling? Good! Extra gassy the last week or so (TMI?) which is a bummer because I'm getting so eager to feel movement and it's such a fake out.

    What are the most annoying questions you've been asked so far about your pregnancy? "Remind me what your husband does again?" from the occasional person at work. I think the implication is that if MH is in a certain line of work (i.e., makes a certain amount of money), I'm more or less likely to come back post-kiddo. Probably statistically true, but still not cool.

  • @emiliadkay oh wow, I can’t believe they’d use pregnancy to ask about your husband’s work. Wow that’s kinda sexist and very inappropriate. I think you get judged more if it’s your first kid vs if you had a kid already and you came back to work/ are working people would have more of an idea of your likelihood to return to work.
    Me:27 DH: 31 Married Since: 08/2016
    TTC: 08/2017 EDD: 6/11/2018 FTM
  • @emiliadkay I think the highest it gets is 3.31% for any given day, I think peak being like 6 days after one’s due date. But you have like a 35% chance of giving birth before your due date, 65% chance after.
  • @doxiemoxie212 Yep, you're right. And I don't think most women realize how skewed things are in favor of them going past their due date than giving birth before... Though I wish they had the stats for FTMs vs. S+TMs as well, because my (totally anecdotal) sense is that a lot of women go earlier with their first than they do with later pregnancies.

    What I meant to say and didn't very clearly, is that at least probability is dynamic. So although right now the probability of me giving birth 6 days after my June due date is only 3.31%, if this was already the 6th day after my due date (i.e., due date was Jan. 21) and I hadn't gone into labor yet, the probability of today being the day would be 9.89%. (Kind of obvious and not my most clever comment, but my first reaction to the stats was to picture myself waking up a week past my due date thinking "welp, 97% likely I'm not getting out of this mess today" and it was a little depressing :) ).
  • @emiliadkay I believe statistically it's actually the opposite -- S+TMs are much more likely to go sooner than FTMs. Or more specifically, you're more likely to have an earlier pregnancy go the latest term than subsequent pregnancies. But, yes, completely agree, the stats will change as we get closer to our due dates since we've eliminated a lot of percentage points at that point.
