I was grocery shopping yesterday and was in the frozen food aisle desperately searching for jalapeno poppers when some random guy noticed me and decided to say "I thought grocery shopping when hungry was bad, grocery shopping when pregnant must be hell!" Then he proceeded to tell me what "the wife" craved when she was pregnant. Like thanks buddy but not only do I not want your randomness, you're distracting me from finding my poppers and idgaf that your wife craved gyozas.
Saw this on another bmb and wanted to share. Even though we are all (hopefully) many weeks away from delivery, the chance of baby survival increases so much every day at this point!

I’m not sure if this a pregnancy thing or “almost 30” thing but I plucked one long ass gray hair our of my eyebrow yesterday! I didn’t measure it but it was definitely over an inch long. Like, how did I not notice that for it to get that long?!
Ugh, I need to vent for a minute. Kind of a long story, I'll try to keep it short and sweet. One of my research patients comes in once a month, gets sedated and gets his experimental medication administered through a lumbar puncture. I'm currently trying to coordinate another procedure to be done while he's still asleep in the Recovery area after his dose so he doesn't have to be sedated an extra time, and every single person I'm discussing it with is giving me such a difficult time about it. I'm so sorry that I care about my patient and want what's best for him instead of what's convenient for you, but I thought we all worked with children because we want to give them the best care. So apparently these people would rather just take the risk of his being sedated again for no reason, rather than work with me to figure out a way to do this. Especially since this is exactly what we did a few years ago when he needed the same procedure done, and apparently no one had an issue with it back then. It's really frustrating me, and now even the doctor I work with is insisting I shouldn't be stressing over it because it should just be done outpatient and "shouldn't be your problem". But why?!?! He has to be sedated for the research study anyway!! I'm so angry about this right now, sorry if I'm rambling.

@sandbar517 I'm sorry. It is very encouraging to hear that there are people like you that are working to try to make the patient's life easier (esp a child patient). Thank you for trying to do the right thing even though there are roadblocks.
We have an electrician over and are trying to get overhead lighting put in. The guy says we don't need a permit but I am almost positive we do. I feel really uncomfortable about it (DH is at work), so we are probably going to not do it today and then have someone else (I'm thinking new electrician who believes in permits) come back and install the lighting. I feel like it's so much work and money, so we should just use standing lamps, but DH really wants to get the permanent lighting. Bah. I'm too emotional to handle these situations with objectivity right now.
@silverhope thank you for your encouragement. I'm having one of those moments where I'm feeling like "just a nurse" and I hate that. It's so unfair, but I totally feel like if I had one of my doctors back me up on this, shit would get done a lot easier. As of right now, I feel like it's out of my hands. Thankfully, the patient is coming in to our Genetics clinic next week as a patient (not related to the research study), so I'm discussing it with our nurse who will see him there so hopefully she and the clinic doctor can get better results. Also, that's a little creepy about the lights, I hope you have better luck with someone else!

@justsuzie I've come to realize people are just totally boneheaded when it comes to social etiquette. They say things without thinking. We are pregnant via gestational carrier and so many people say, "at least you can drink wine during the pregnancy!" I want to say that I'd really rather give up wine and carry my own children, but it doesn't seem worth the effort and argument to combat their ignorant comments.
@sandbar517 I am amazed sometimes about people who work with kids and still have the "I only care about what works best for me" attitude. Your patients are very lucky to have you.
@nhardler. I can’t believe people say that to you about drinking, it’s so insensitive, and really just absurd. The only thing people should be saying to anyone who is having a baby (in my opinion) is, “that’s so exciting, congrats!” I don’t know why anyone ever feels the need to comment on the size of anyone’s body, how little sleep you are going to be getting, or anything else
@sandbar517 You are a great nurse! I hear you about the "just a nurse" some days... but don't give up. You are doing the right thing for your patient! I hope they end up changing their tune.
We are starting potty training today! So far so good! We signed DS up for preschool in the fall, and it kinda just put me on a path of getting things checked off the list. After potty training it will be the binky going bye bye. He turns 3 in June. He's peed once on the potty so far and sat on it a handful of other times.
I spent Saturday night in the L&D wing because of severe cramping....turns out sex can cause some pretty bad cramping. Um, yah, I was pretty embarrassed but the doctor said, "you don't know how many FTMs we see here on Saturday nights, wink wink." My husband is still teasing me. Oh, and I also accidentally ate gluten too, soooo, sex and gluten=freakout hospital visit. The up-side is we got to see the L&D wing and the nurses were really nice. Now we have a comparison when we visit the hospital we think we are switching to.
Has anyone gotten good maternity pjs lately (just basic shorts/T-shirt is what I am looking for)? Every place I look has tight tank tops or long sleeves and pants and something cool that I can grow into is all I need!
@silverhope ohhh, that is cute, thanks! I also go with the husbands shirt towards the end, but I also like something that transitions to nursing friendly one the baby is here. I will probably just order it and see how it is since it is the closest to what I am looking for!
@justsuzie that's a funny story now but definitely would have been scary on Saturday! Glad you're ok and that you had a positive experience at L&D prior to your baby arriving!
@nhardler I'm sorry for those comments. It's not quite the same but my first pregnancy I had a lot of complications and DS's placenta didn't form right and I had a lot of trouble gaining weight. Everyone kept telling me how lucky I was to be so small and how lucky I was to be having a small baby. While they don't mean to offend, some people just don't think about their words but it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt you any less. Love to you for being so strong and having your baby in the way you can. I think it takes a fierce momma to do that!
@justsuzie glad your visit turned out okay. But kuddos for the raunchy romp in the sack! Lol!!
I also went to the hospital Saturday but I had to spend basically the whole weekend there... nasty appendicitis! I dealt with it for about twelve hours over Friday night into Saturday morning before going in. After spending the day having various tests done to ensure it was my appendix I finally had surgery about 24 hours after the severe pain started the night before. Luckily they got it out in time; the surgeon said if they had waited until morning it very well might have burst and described it as a very angry looking appendix. Unfortunately my growing uterus rearranged some things inside and it was shoved into and slightly behind my colon. So they had to do an open surgery, cut completely through my side muscles and about twice as big of an incision as normal. Thankfully everything turned out okay considering and baby is doing great. And I got to recover in labor and delivery so right away when getting out of surgery they basically got me in the room and let me hear his heartbeat right away. And the nurses were wonderful about checking it when I asked how he was doing. Definitely shocked my regular OB Sunday morning when he came to check on patients! I'm so thankful for the nurses and doctors I had because not only did they take care of me and the baby physically but they were so wonderful and caring. It was especially nice since we've just had so much sickness in our family over the last few weeks and had some not so supportive incidents with different nurses and doctors.
@sandbar517 I'm glad there are nurses like you out there who truly do care for patients and really just want to do what's best for them and feel upset when they want to do more. You are so much more than "just a nurse." It sucks when you have a person who makes your life so much better in a tough time and makes it better and you can't even really go back to thank them properly. I would guess you've had so many patients that would love to see you just once more and say thanks for all you did for them. (Sorry I've been a bit cheesy/sappy lately!!)
