  • I'm pretty sure this will get me covered in flames, but Spanking happens at my house.

Now I'm not talking about leaving welts or even red marks, just a hard enough to feel it swat on the butt. It works for us, and L has responded really well to it. We say what is going to happen is he doesn't quit doing something, and he usually stops pretty quickly. I think he has been swatted like 12 times in the last year, and mostly for continuing to hit/bite/pinch someone.

@rosalie0208 I totally agree after age 2. However, I get it up to 24 months, especially when referring to developmental stuff.

ETA mine is that I LOVEEE maternity tanks. They are wayyyy longer than regular tanks, and the ruching is way more flattering.

  • @lakesideknitter agree! 24 months is understandable....beyond that, not so much lol
  • @calimom2524 I’m with you.

And I add mine is that I hate the term “side gig” or “side hustle” that I see on Facebook from everyone who sells stuff on there and refers to their job as the above mentioned terms.
  • @calimom2524 Do you teach high school? I swear I hear "epic", "legit", and "bet" 25 million times a day.....

  • @princesslockness spanking like you described was the only thing that worked for us until DS got old enough to care about losing toys. We only used it for major things like kicking/hitting or instances when he was putting himself in danger, like running in a parking lot.

I can’t remember the last time we had to spank him because taking away TV & electronics is a very effective punishment now that he’s old enough to understand a longer consequence.

  • Mine, speaking of word choice, is when people say things like "loving on", "hugging on," "bragging on" - why add the word on where it doesn't belong? i.e. I just want to brag on my husband and love on my kids. It sounds so trashy to me, and I only hear it on my other bump board and not IRL, so I just don't get it I guess.

  • @jennybeans46 I ate cold lunch meat with my first and she turned out just fine. But, I just learned this time around that you can microwave then refrigerate the meat.  So, if I make a sandwich for my lunch, I make it at night and microwave the meat, then refrigerate over night and the next day.  No warm meat here - nasty!

My UO is about gratuitous selfies.  I wish people would stop posting them on social media. I do understand and can certainly appreciate a selfie here and there, but to the people who post one (or more) every week? No.  Stop fishing for compliments and trying to get likes.
  • Yes, everything you said @shri929 is completely accurate!  Why do people like Starbucks?!
  • @jennybeans46 I eat lunch meat occasionally too. I have them toast the whole sandwich, but I know that doesn't really do anything. I just like it toasted.  I'm all about educated risks. Listeria is more common right now in fruits and veggies, and I won't avoid those, so I just know there's a risk there. Kind of like there are risks driving a car and crossing the street. I also eat sushi, mostly cooked, unless I'm at a really good place and then I'll have a little raw. And i have the occasional glass of wine and/or beer. Only an ounce or two after dinner once or twice a month; it's a nice treat!
  • UO: My kid(s) are going to have a full time nanny as soon as we can afford it (unfortunately, that won't be for about 4 years).  I'm in a weird position that I've sunk too much time/money/energy into my career to give it up (and I like it...gasp!) and part time jobs are almost nonexistent in my specialty. It feels weird because my mom was a SAHM so it feels like im doing things "wrong" at times. I'm trying to find daycare that is open from 6:30am-7pm at this point and everyone keeps asking "have you thought about a nanny?" The answer is yes. Just unfortunately not right now.

Flame away but I'm going to love this kid like crazy.
  • @livinthesunnylife I've had some pretty negative feedback from family and people at work that by choosing the type of job I have, I'm not being fair to my kids if and when I choose to have them. Almost like I don't love them enough to spend more time with them or don't love my job enough to be fully dedicated. What a load of hooey. Can't I have it all?!

  • Realize that by saying "if and when" it came out as questioning whether to have this kid. Obviously not. I'm saying I had that feedback in the past while planning for a family!
  • @livinthesunnylife @doctormom33 Hell, I'm a teacher. So like once kids are in school we will be same schedule except for 3-5 inservice days a year. I'm still getting shit from everyone about 'you aren't spending enough time NOW with them.' and 'Who CARES about later, what about when they are little and actually cute?!?!?!' A different one had the audacity to ask 'you do know how that happens, right?' when we announced #3 at work.

Its ridiculous all the crap people feel they get to say to us.

If you are interested, a "nanny share" is a little more affordable.
  • @livinthesunnylife idk, they must like the jitters?!
also, agree with you on the thank yous. At least let me know you’ve received the gift
DS born 04/22/15, Pregnant again 03/01/17 however loss due to PPROM at 20+6 weeks now TTC rainbow
  • @doctormom33 What is it still 1960?  The thought that the woman has to stay home and that's the only family solution is so ridiculously old fashioned.
  • Yeah it would not be healthy for me to be a SAHM. At the end of my mat leave I was worrying over every little thing DS did. Is that normal? What about that?

I'm much healthier mentally back at work. Plus I love my job. My mom worked full time and I never felt like I was missing out.

Also, thankfully no one has given me any crap about working. Sorry ppl aren't being supportive to you guys!
  • I was a SAHM mom last year for 3 months while I was job searching and I am NOT cut out for that. Major props to y'all who can do it but my kids were sick of me and I was sick of them. I am much better mentally when I'm working.

Also @doctormom33 i agree with above, nanny share is HUGE out here and it helps a lot of people get a nanny at a more affordable price.

  • @doctormom33 as you're looking at daycares, be sure to ask if they have a daily or weekly maximum time limit.  All of them around here have a 50 hr/week max and ours specifically says you can't leave the kid there more than 10 hours in any one day.  That might just be a requirement to be a 5 star center in NC though.  If you think you'll have your kid there from 630am-7pm you'll want to make sure you aren't getting penalized for it.

DH has wanted a nanny all along but I don't think you can put a price on the benefits of daycare, so we'll just keep paying them a small fortune until our kids are in public school full time.  If I've learned anything from the last two days where daycare was closed due to snow, it's that I love my kids but I couldn't be home with them 24/7.
  • UO this week (according to the my so is awesome) is that I don't like my hubby very much right now. I love him always but right now he is being a jerk. When I ask for some extra help he looks at me like I am faking everything. I am so exhausted this time around and sicker then a dog. I also work 3rd shirt and have our 5 year old home all day long. All I want is the house picked up and a load of laundry done! Too much to ask? I feel like I shouldn't even have to ask.
  • I would love to be a SAHM - or at least a part-time SAHM. My mom was one (and granted, she had 4 kids so that probably made sense) but I think I'd like to be around with my kid - at least the first few years. Sadly, I don't think it's possible I could quit - I'd love to get a part-time position in education, although the only thing I can think of with regards to that is subbing. Or really, I'd love to have a job that requires less time outside of the actual job. As a teacher, we spend a lot of time doing work outside of normal hours. I'll have my master's degree in May and maybe that will open doors for me in some other spots. Regardless, I think it's horse nuggets that any woman feels like she has to defend any choice she makes for her family... that's just garbage.

And la croix is awesome. I thought we might be best friends @ecwk but then you mentioned the coconut la croix - that's the one flavor I can't do. I think it tastes like oil.

My UO is that I don't like This Is Us. I tried. I can't do it.
  • @hezzer78 I can’t believe that!!! That is one of the best shows EVER. (Obviously, IMO....)
