January 2018 IUI

I'm 13dp IUI, expecting AF any day, and going for my beta blood work tomorrow.  Cheers to another round of IUI for me in 2018, and hopefully celebrating next NYE with a screaming, mushy baby!

My wife and I have conceived a babe with my body and frozen donor sperm through IUI, with medication support (clomid, ovidrel, and injections of progesterone)

IUI #1, #2, and #3: Dec 2017, Jan 2018, and Feb 2018 - all BFN
HSG Test: April 2018 - all clear!
IUI #4: April 15/16, 2018 - BFP!! EDD: Jan 7, 2019

Re: January 2018 IUI

  • Hi :) I have been posting on TTTC board & regualrly on TTGP. Due to hormonal imbalance as a result of adrenal/ovarian insufficiency (presumably related to an autoimmune disorder) and a LPD, I am doing my first IUI this month!  Currently, I am WFAF then on to IUI w/ injectables!

  • Hi @jrm_14!! Hopefully AF shows soon as you can get going!

AFM I usually post on the IF board on TTGP but thought I'd shoot over here because there's a lot of info.

I am currently waiting for IUI #2 - on day 4 of a 5 day Clomid dose, then Gonal F then trigger and IUI, most likely next Thursday/Friday. First IUI ended in BFN obvs, but was not happy with that RE, so I switched and am doing this with a new RE. Our issue is MFI so I have a feeling IVF is in our future, but wanted to try one more IUI with the new doc.

  • Welcome @RVAmom315 and @jrm_14! Best of luck to you both in this process!

AFM My beta test was BFN. So onto IUI #2 this month!  We didn’t really expect a BFP on the first try. Waiting for AF to visit, then back on the crazy train for round 2 with Clomid, trigger shot, and progesterone.

Happy Hump Day to you all!

  • @rooonilwaazlib Sorry for the BFN :( Attempting to prepare yourself for a BFN vs actually receiving it can be very different. I hope this second theme works for you!

@RVAmom315 You’re doing the same protocol with a new doctor?  Did your RE teach you how to do the injectables or was it a learn as you go?  Hopefully you are liking this RE much better!

AF should be here by next Tuesday at the latest!
  • @jrm_14 I'm doing the same meds, but different doses with the new RE:
    IUI #1: 50mg Clomid days 3-7, 75ui of Gonal F days 8-12, Ovidrel trigger day 13, IUI day 14
IUI #2: 100mg Clomid days 3-7, 150ui of Gonal day 9, Novarel trigger TBD, IUI TBD
The nurse showed me how to mix, inject the meds at the clinic. The first IUI it was a pen (Gonal F), this second IUI is a mix one which the nurse showed me at my appt in November - I hope I remember! So far I like my new RE soooo much better (I'll like him even more if he gets me KU lol)

  • Hello everyone. I'll have my IUI #1 probably this week so I'll be joining in if you don't mind.

I'm 39 yo and DH is 37. We have been married for 6years and were ttc for 2 years now. I had a 7cm chocolate cyst removed Jan2017 through lap. We started our IVF #1 Aug2017 through an antagonist protocol. 4 embryos were retrieved, 3 were ICSI treated and 1 was just sprayed with DH sperm. Only 1 was fertilized then frozen. On my FET day that one 5d embryo was returned back to me. On Nov2017, beta result was a BFN.

We had our IVF #1 at the hospital where I had my chocolate cyst removed because my dr could speak English (we're residing in Japan) and the hospital has a good reputation and good facilities. But DH thought that we'd better move to a fertility clinic, because there are too many people in the hospital and we spend so much time waiting for our turn during each appt.

At our new clinic, I was tested for low AMH and low testosterone. I started taking DHEA from Dec2017. My cycle was wonky last month, probably due to the meds and hormones I took for my last IVF. When I was nearing ovulation last month, I had an HCG trigger shot and did some BD, but AF came last week and so we met our dr yesterday.

Dr saw an 11 and 12 mm follicles and a couple of probable chocolate cysts. We're monitoring my LH and if it peaks on the 10th, we'd have IUI then.

I hope this would be the month for all of us

  • Thanks for welcoming me @RVAmom315 As for your question, DH's sperm analysis' results turned out much better this time than when we started out our IVF. Our new dr thinks that IUI would still work for us. Our first dr though already dismissed that idea and sent us straight to IVF for reasons of my age, possible recurrence of chocolate cysts and my DH's sperm quality at that time.
  • @tinjp78 Ah gotcha. GL with the IUI! Mine hopefully will be on the 11th

  • @tinjp78 Welcome :). hopefully you & YH are both feeling confident with this plan to do IUI and the new doctor.

@RVAmom315 So close to the 11th!!  Any monitoring updates?  (Sorry if I missed them elsewhere)
  • @jrm_14 Thanks

@RVAmom315 ooops, forget my question, I just read what meds you are taking for your IUI... silly me.
  • @rooonilwaazlib How is your cycle going?
  • @tinjp78 Haha no worries! I’m actually doing my IUI with a new doc as well
@jrm_14 No updates yet - I have my monitoring appt on Tuesday so we’ll know more then. I did my Gonal F shot last night and it was terrifying because I was so afraid the plunger would come out of the syringe and I’d lose all the meds

  • Hi everyone,
I'm new here - just had my first IUI on Sunday, so I'll be joining you all this month.

I've been lurking on boards forever, but thought it might be helpful to start posting now that I've started infertility treatments. Here my story real quick. Husband and I have been ttc for just over a year. We are both 37 and trying for our first child. From charting I had figured out that my LP is really short - like 8-9 days - so finally got checked out by a fertility doc. All the investigative tests confirmed that I O on my own, but LP does seem short. DH's sperm was borderline for motility. Doc said we could likely conceive naturally with time (plus progesterone support for me)... but given our age, we might want to try IUI. So here we are.

I did Puregon shots daily from day 4, injecting myself at home. This was not as scary as I thought it would be. I almost passed out after I did the first one, but I think this was just the adrenaline of pumping myself up to do it. It didn't hurt at all - it's just a bit weird. So, since then I've been fine with them.

Seems like the dose was good because I had two nice follicles, one on each side. On day 13 (Sat), doc said I could trigger that evening and schedule IUI for 36 hours later (Mon morning). However, I got a phone call that afternoon saying that my bloodwork showed I was surging on my own. I was told to trigger immediately (Ovidrel 250), just to back it up I guess, and we did IUI on Sun midday. Sperm looked "fantastic" according to the nurse.

DH had a terrible head cold that day and really wasn't in the mood to give a sample - too bad babe! lol boys.

Everything looks good I think - good follicles and good sperm. My major concern is with the timing. I know it's probably much better if the trigger induces O because the timing is better defined than from LH surge. The good thing (I think) is that I had ovulation pain all day Sunday, and it stopped by the evening. If that's any indication of timing, then I must have O'd within hours of the IUI. I've never experience O pain in my life before. I guess all the injections gave me a super O lol.

The IUI hurt more than I expected! Just cramp-like but quite uncomfortable. I felt sort of sore the rest of the day. Luckily it was a Sunday so I was able to rest a bit.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but it does feel good to be "doing" something, after months and months of going it on our own without luck. dpiUI 2 and I'm going crazy.

    Thanks for listening.

Fingers crossed for all of us.

  • @scikap Welcome! FX this IUI is it for you - keep us updated!

AFM had my monitoring appt today - right ovary is a rock star - three follies at 17+, 16+ and 14+, left ovary decided to take the month off, all I had was a 10. So doc wants me to cook one more day, then I'll trigger tomorrow night and do my IUI on Friday morning. I'm anxious to see DH's sample numbers, we haven't had his morph checked since June, and I've had him on vitamins since then, so I'm hoping for ANY increase (anything is better than 0!) If it's still 0, I'm not going to waste time, we'll move to IVF w/ ICSI. (if this IUI doesn't work obvs)

  • @RVAmom315 After leaving multiple messages in multiple formats, I heard back this afternoon. The u/s place wouldn’t let me schedule without a script. Then, there was an issue with them doing the AFC. I’m not amused. Baseline U/S is not at REs due to distance. I think we got it straightened out, though. The RE wants to see results before calling in meds (letrozole, gonal f/follistem, ovidrel, prometrium).

  • Hello! Thanks for wishing me luck, ladies! Our IUI went ok. We were at the clinic early today, our appt was at 9am. Although we brought my DH's sperm sample from home, as we were instructed, the nurse asked my DH to give another one. DH was hesitant at first if he could do it, since it was just an hour and a half ago since he got his sample at home, but anyway he succeeded to get our champion swimmers. We got a little disappointed though when the nurse asked my DH if he had taken 2 doses of the herbs that was prescribed for him because it should be 2 doses instead of his normal 1 dose before an IUI procedure, BUT we didn't receive this instruction the last time we were there... sigh! Anyway, we didn't allow this tiny issue to ruin our day so we just let it pass for today. During my procedure, DH was allowed in the exam room with me to be my interpreter since I'm not so good at Japanese yet and everybody else in that room isn't better in English than DH. Dr seemed to have a hard time seeing my womb, she was saying it was small. The whole procedure took around 10 minutes.

Dr prescribed me some antibiotics to take for 3 days and on 1/14, I should start taking Duphaston (medicine to prevent my chocolate cyst (now 28mm) from getting bigger). If this IUI won't succeed this time, Dr suggest that we try 2 more times, then during the IVF, we'll have several egg retrievals before transfer. And if AF comes next month, I'd have HSG which I really really despise because it was sooo painful the first time. I really do hope that I'd get KU this time. My tww starts now.
  • @jrm_14 about your question about my trigger shot, it wasn't so painful, it was an intramuscular shot and probably the nurse was just either good at administering them or I already got used to getting shots. I always have them on my upper arm near my shoulders. On the day we had to trigger my ovulation, I got HCG 250iu and now after my IUI, I had 3,500iu.

@tinjp78 Glad That overall your IUI went well this morning!  Why were they not able to use his sample from home? Good thing he was able to produce another so quickly!!

I thought triggershots were done IM. However, I watched some YouTube videos of Ovidrel injections in the abdomen, which would make it subq. Anyone have any insight into triggershot injection sites?  Clearly, I will do whatever my RE tells me to do :)

  • @tinjp78 I’m surprised they’d have YH do another sample so close to the first one - I’d be afraid the number would be bad, but it sounds like they were good! Yay!

AFM My IUI went great! H was able to give a sample (he was worried doing it at the clinic) and he had 38 mil motile and 3% morph post wash! That’s great because his SA back in June was 0 morph. Twice. So it looks like the vitamins are working !

  • @jrm_14 I've never had a subq trigger shot but I also heard that it can be done that way too, however I'm content with an IM. Also, @RVAmom315 , they wanted DH to provide another sample because Dr wasn't satisfied with the first batch we had brought in. We were able to use them too, through. They added the first and second batches together. Prob, on the first one, lots had died on our way to the clinic. The weather here yesterday was too cold, snowing and minus 2 deg cel. DH SA showed that the second batch he got from the clinic was much better. Plus, dr showed us a video of DH sperms and compared the 1st and 2nd and showed us the combined result. It was interesting. Although dr said she wanted to have faster swimmers next time.

@scikap Thank you. I'm also crossing my fingers for you and your first beta is just around the corner. How are you doing today?

    Citrulline
    Hotchuekitou (herb)
    and tomato juice
  • How are you doing guys? AFM, last night at 8pm my face itched, turned red and got swollen. This morning it's not itchy anymore but I feel that my cheeks are a bit thicker than usual. DH and I suspect 2 things, it could be the antibiotics I took after IUI or Duphaston, the progesterone meds I'm taking to improve my chance of pregnancy and to treat my endometriosis. Sigh, this is the first time this ever happened to me.
