I’m not sure what thread this goes into - but at my Ob appt Friday I learned that bc I have (hereditary) low platelets, I likely won’t be eligible for an epidural. Normal range is 150-400, and platelets fall throughout your pregnancy... Mine are now at 90. Epidural cut off is 80 — and doctor says it’s unlikely I’ll make it. So, damn it. Natural birth (or c-section) it is. I’m trying not to be upset - but it sucks having options taken away.
I had borderline low platelets with my first (hovering right around 100). They took my blood when I was in labour to see if I was eligible for an epidural but it took so long to get the results it was already time for be to push when the said I could have the epidural... I opted out since I was already through transition and the worst of it. My second labour went so fast that the tech came in to rake my blood as they were handing me my son! Long story short, I hope that if you can't have an epidural you are blessed with a relatively quick labour and a good supply of laughing gas!
