Re: Weekly Questions w/o 1/7

  • Any tips on bras? I already need to get new ones since I've gone up a cup size. Should I just get one while I wait to see what my chest does or would it be worth it to go ahead and get a few?

  • I was lucky enough to have large bras from before weight loss to year early last time. I bought nursing bras in an only slight too big size at 20 weeks last time, and they're still working great (still nursing). They were a little too tight during engorgement period just after birth, but fine after that. If you're not planning on nursing, getting a bunch now might work. If you are, I would only get 1 or 2, and buy them so that the band is comfortable on the tightest setting now, and cup is just a little roomy.

  • @pourmeamocktail Thank you! I do plan on attempting nursing so it sounds like maybe 2 for now would be good.
  • @SkilledSailor I'm a huge fan of C9 sportbras from Target. I'm a big girl (DD pre-preg) and they do a good job of support without smush and uniboob.

  • @SkilledSailor I wouldn’t invest much money into new bras now as your rib cage will definitely continue to expand. I wound up in soft stretchy nursing bras from target for most of last pregnancy.
  • I'm 6w, 2d. I woke up this morning with no symptoms at all. I've been very exhausted and have had a heightened sense of smell since probably the third week. This is my first time pregnant. Is this normal? Has this happened to anyone else before? Symptoms just disappear.

  • @SkilledSailor Good luck with the shopping, I had a hard time because I have small band/large breast issues. I got super lucky that I bought big enough early on that they still work, and I found them all at a resale shop-someone my size had three of the same bra in a 32H!

  • @episcowitch @spottedginger @pourmeamocktail Thank you ladies! Your insight really helps me not feel as overwhelmed by the options! Sounds like getting two that are ever so slightly too big and not too expensive is the way to go for now.
  • @smsaulino Everyone is different. If you have concerns, reach out to you mw or doc.

The anxiety is totally normal. I am currently only having nausea as a symptom and I know it is 100% anxiety related!

  • @cschofink Thank you! I’ll keep an eye out for some sales on those.
  • @CSchoFink @SkilledSailor I second the Bravado recommendation! They are SO comfortable and convert for regular wear/nursing. I can't wan't to wear them again!  :D

  • @CSchoFink @SkilledSailor @southernlady07 yes! That's what mine are, I don't know where they can be bought in store, because I need/like the real style under wire bras in crazy sizes, but I have found them online and I love them.

  • When did you all call to schedule your first appointment? I got my positive test on 10DPO - SO early. Today I should be exactly 4 weeks. I feel kinda silly calling so soon, but I have to switch to a new OB/GYN (insurance changed), so I'm worried it could take some time to get an appointment. STM here, but this is confusing stuff even if you've done it before!

@pourmeamocktail I also bought mine online last time but think I only had non-underwire. Re: your earlier post - I am the same as you and have to order European brands to find the right fit of small band/big cup. I love my Freya bras and saw yesterday that they have nursing underwire bras.

ETA question: I feel like I remember my LC saying that underwire could cause clogged ducts when nursing - did you ever have an issue with that? It has been a while for me, so I can't remember if I ever wore underwire or not.

  • @yogapants247 I called last week at 5 weeks but I think others call right away just in case there’s a long wait.
  • Whats everyones thoughts on exercise + pregnancy? I'm currently doing A Little Obsessed on repeat (a beach body program) until 80 Day Obsession is released here in a few days. I've always been active so my body is pretty used to it.

**TW** I miscarried a couple months ago and my MIL has dropped subtle hints that she believes it could have been from me carrying my 2.5 year old around and exercising [the guuuuiiilt is real ya'll]. Side note: my OB did clear me for continuing exercise during that pregnancy. **TW**

    Would love everyones thoughts!

  • @southernlady07 Never had as issue. I hate no wire bras during the day as they don't support me at all.

Had a huge over supply, still nursing strong now at 19 months, on supplementing, and my only 3 plugs were from being away from baby and failing to pump enough. He solved all of them for me within 12 hours.

I could see a bigger issue if you don't fit them well-like a bra with a band slightly too loose with bigger cups to compensate like so many bra fitting people try to suggest. But if you can keep wire flat against your rib cage and not on breast tissue, I don't see an issue.

  • @yogapants247 call when you're comfortable to! I called right away since we're military and the process takes f.o.r.e.v.e.r.

  • @shouse I'm a bit split, but I firmly believe you did NOT cause any harm to your baby. My son was delivered 5 weeks early, I'd been trying to tell my providers (and due to having to switch plus visit a few different L&D locations there were like 5 different practices involved) that I thought I was in premature prodromal labor for like 6 weeks prior to his birth and they all ignored me and told me not to bother cutting down on my running and etc that I was doing. Now, that being said, I wish I had cut back, he might have stayed in a little longer. But, I would say IF your provider has cleared you AND your mind & body seem to be OK with it (mine weren't all the time, but I was blindly trusting my providers), I see no reason to not to. I would cut back on the super intense stuff once your balance starts going, and if you end up unreasonably sore or tired afterwards, make sure to get more rest days in and maybe cut back a little, no reason to not to (assuming a low-risk pregnancy).

  • @yogapants247 I called as soon as I saw the positive on a test. I've been going to this doctor for the last couple of years and knew how far out appointments get scheduled out. I would go ahead and give them a call because regardless of when you call, the appointment could be not for a couple of weeks.

  • @shouse11 as long as you feel good and your doc clears you, I would continue what you are doing, modifying or slowing down as needed. I am taking a kettelbell class 3x week and plan to continue that as long as possible, taking it at my own pace and modifying as needed. I also hope to continue running/jogging a few times a week as well.
  • @yogapants247 we have the same LMP, positive test and EDD! I’m on the call ASAP to get on the schedule team.
  • @yogapants247 I emailed my provider at 4+? And asked when they wanted to see me, this will be my second pregnancy with them. They said schedule an appointment between 8-10 weeks. When I called the receptionist seemed confused that no one "verified" I was pregnant but scheduled me for when I wanted anyways. So I suggest just giving them a call

@shouse11 my doctor is a believer in continuing exercise. I did some lifting, yoga, curling, and swimming last pregnancy. She also stated that if it felt like too much then it probably was. I don't think intense workout until failure routines are a great idea but I think you can continue what you are doing maybe just turned down a notch. I remember right before I found out I was pregnant I was doing a pretty intense weight room workout and was getting really light headed (in hindsight it made sense). Keep your doctor informed about your activities and trust how you feel
  • Thanks guys! You made me feel less crazy for wanting to call right now! Scheduled an appt for 2/2, when I should be 7+2.

  • @yogapants247 glad you called! Most offices have a standard for what they do with low-risk pregnant women, so it doesn't really matter when you call, they'll just do what's normal. My office does a phone call with the NP at 6 weeks, then the first appointment maybe around 10 weeks, if you know for sure your dates. If you're not sure, they do a dating u/s earlier to confirm your dates, but you still do the same appointment schedule. My office is pretty chill about stuff though--they really don't like to do anything unnecessary. I remember with my daughter in my 3rd trimester I kept seeing people post on these boards how dilated they were...so I asked my doc why she hadn't checked me, and she was like "I can if you want to, but it's uncomfortable, and there's not a single useful thing I can do with that information to aid in your care".

My question: cramps. I get lots of cramps off-and-on. I'm 6w2d right now, and it's basically been happening since I found out before 5w. I think this is what it was like last time, too, and it's not like they're severe, but ugh, it has me uncomfortable and so stressed (TW: I have a history of miscarriages before my daughter was born).

  • @MandyMost I have also had cramps off and on, especially in the evenings and when I've been on my feet a lot. From everything I have read, it is totally normally and just the uterus adjusting to carrying another baby. A heating pad helps me a lot with getting more comfortable.

  • @shouse11 That’s a really rude and insensitive for your MIL to blame you exercising for your loss. Whatever you were doing for exercise before you got pregnant is generally safe and (good for you!)to continue while pregnant.
  • @shouse11 I require not further evidence to confidently say your MiL is an awful person. Who says that?! You did nothing wrong.

  • I had some spotting last night, called OB this morning and had progesterone repeated. It dropped from 21.3 to 15.78 in 2 weeks. Started 200mg of Prometrium once a day.

Anyone have ave any experiences like this? My first appt isn’t until next Tuesday and it can’t get here fast enough :(

  • I'm sorry @megnwingate. I haven't had the same experience, but my doctor doesn't check progesterone anymore since they claim it isn't a reliable measure of viability. Fingers crossed for you and I hope Tuesday comes quick!
  • @megnwingate Hmm that's strange. I hope the Prometrium helps and it's nothing to worry about!

  • @megnwingate When I had spotting previously they checked 48hr HCG levels. My OB has never checked progesterone so I’m not sure. Are they trending your HCG levels? I hope these next days go by fast. Spotting in the first trimester is very common so try not to worry, I know that’s easier said than done.
  • @carolina422 I’m honestly not sure why he checked my progesterone. I am 6+5 today. My last beta were done at 4+3 and +5 and they doubled in a little under 48 hours. The only time I’ve ever had spotting was when I miscarried over 7 years ago so I have nothing except that to relate this to

  • @megnwingate I know it must be hard when that’s all you have to relate to. But my best friend is an OB so I have talked to her about this before. She sees spotting a lot in the first trimester and the moms go on to have healthy babies. It is common especially after exercise or sex because your cervix is very fragile. If it’s just spotting try not to worry. If it becomes bright red or heavy like a period let your doctor know. Try to stay positive this weekend and fingers crossed for Tuesday!!!! I’m sending lots of good thoughts your way
