@mileswithmyles runners’ feet can be the worst! Luckily I’ve avoided most of the grossness. I had one nail fall off after a marathon. What’s your worst?
@roomsu I’ve gotten several bruised toenails and lost one once. The worst was after my first half. I traveled with a big group of girlfriends for it and I was laying on the bed with my feet propped up on the wall to help with the swelling. I distincting remember telling my running buddy how gross my toenails looked and she wanted to see. Neither of us wanted to get up, so I took a picture and texted it to her. I was really blistered and ended up losing that toenail. After my two fulls, my nails we’re totally fine, thank god, because I was in a wedding a week after one of them and had to wear open toe shoes.
I’ve learned how to prevent most of it by trimming them and taping my toes with medical tape. I also changed up my shoes.
@mileswithmyles Did you go up a size for your shoes? I’ve gone up 2 sizes and keep my toenails super short. I don’t have time to train for anymore full marathons so that probably helps too! Are you doing any long runs this pregnancy? I’m doing a 15k in a few weeks. I want to do a half in March too.
@roomsu I have since that first race. I’m normally a 6.5 and I’m a 7.5 in my running shoes. I use Brooks Ghosts because of the wider toe box. Training for a full is like a full time job. I’d love to do another one at some point but I want to wait until my kids are older. I was running until I got bronchitis at the beginning of December. Between that and HG I just don’t have the energy for long runs now. But with DS I did a lot of half marathons and 10ks. I’ll get back to it once the baby comes. I’m sticking to walks and yoga for now.
I haven’t lost a toenail but I did have a really ugly set of Black of nails after my last half that lasted from end of April through mid October. Probably would have been longer if I hadn’t cut them out (which was traumatic and disgusting) Definitely lost a toenail from pointework though. /shudders Six hour corps rehearsals en pointe without a break will do that I guess -.-
I haven’t lost a toe nail either. I always go up a size in my running shoes though. I think for my push present to myself I’m getting a pair of new shoes to get back on the road after baby comes. I don’t see me getting back into the swing of things now.
@Poppy0419 I love the idea of new shoes when baby comes! Don’t the docs say not to try to start back up at this point? I’m on a running streak so I’m trying to see how long I can go. I just hit a year in December. There are some hardcore ladies in my fb steak group that run the day they deliver. Sounds crazy to me, but maybe if I feel great that day? @ivyvines6 Did you keep running with your toes like that? And did you dance too? Sounds horrible. I’m always amazed watching dancers. My niece is just starting pointework and it looks so painful!
@roomsu my doctor is okay with me doing what I’m comfortable with BUT my sickness was also not pregnancy related. I ran 6 miles the day I delivered DD. She does, however, make me keep an exercise and calorie log but I got below 100lbs when I was sick and they want to make sure my weight stays stable.
@mileswithmyles between the cold and my energy I’m just happy to be doing anything. Pure barre and yoga are my current go tos. I’ll run again if I feel up to it but I still have good and bad days. Today is a Zofran kinda day.

I always take a couple weeks off after a race, but there was no time for a break that close to a show unfortunately. (Different times in my life) I was dancing like that in high school, but I didn’t keep dancing as much after I graduated. I’m teaching now though, but I wouldn’t attempt pointe work at this point, aside from being pregnant, I’m a little weak in the proper muscles, and I’m too heavy.
