I had to call the OBGYN office to get it scheduled, but my level 2 anatomy scan will be on January 17. I'm eager and anxious at the same time. It was our anatomy scan with DS2 that showed his heart defect. Fingers crossed this one is heart healthy!

WOW! Color me impressed! I read through all of the responses, but am typically on mobile and get to frustrated trying to mess with the "reply" and tagging.
I am in a Doctor of Behavioral Health program, which focuses on integrated healthcare, fusing behavioral health and medical care into one experience for patients. I am currently a BCBA, and want to be able to provide more physical/medical interventions when working with patients, especially those with developmental disabilities/autism.
@kmurdock925 I bought this for DS. He will be 3yo on Saturday and we transitioned him to a full-size bed over the summer. Went straight from a crib to the bed and he is a CRAZY sleeper, but these things are awesome because they help keep him in bed! He has never fallen out once, and they are very easy to use and you don't have to worry about them banging their head on any metal. Check them out!
@sunshineandwhiskey Wow, we are not worthy but seriously, that's impressive. Like others have said, I only use my phone to bump so all that tagging is downright impossible. But even with dual screens, that's time consuming! You're awesome
And two, after saying just last night that I hadn't felt movement, I *think* I felt some faint flutters today. You'd think I'd be sure the second time around, but it was so faint and fleeting. Hopefully more to come soon so I know for sure
1. How many weeks are you? I'm 18 weeks today. 2. How old are your LOs? DS will be 2 in March. 3. Symptoms/Appointments/Fun Baby related stuff? My anatomy scan is scheduled for January 19th! I "knew" DS was a boy, so he wasn't a surprise. There's a little part of me that thinks this one could be a girl, but there are no girls on DH's side of the family since his great aunt. DH's grandfather had two boys, his dad had two boys, his brother has two boys, and we have one boy. So it's very likely another boy. 4. How’s life? It sucks being back to work after 10 days off. I have a business trip in a couple of weeks, then no more work travel for at least a year. 5. GTKY: How do you like your coffee? I'm not a coffee person. Maybe once or twice a year I'll get some kind of sweet chocolate/mint/caramel/vanilla. I don't really do tea either, but in non-pregnant winters past I would occasionally have peppermint tea with some extra peppermint schnapps added.
@mytinc Best wishes for a healthy and normal anatomy scan!
@kmurdock925 DS started refusing to sleep in his crib last July so he now sleeps on a full-sized mattress and box spring on the floor. He can climb in and out himself so we put a baby gate in his doorway while he's sleeping so he can't wander around the house. It's also low enough that if he falls out he's not going to get hurt. It's big enough that when he has the occasional bad night one of us can sleep in there with him and since it's a full-sized mattress he can use it for years.
@llamamama14 I just saw your response about the mattress on the floor. It has worked so well for us!

DS1 is 4.5 years old and very interested in how the body works. He knows the baby is in my belly (hasn't asked how it got there yet thank goodness) and knows it will come out of a "hole" that mommies have that boys don't have because they have penises. The other day he asked me to make sure and tell him when the baby is coming so he can be there to watch it come out...

@mytinc hilarious! My DS thinks we 'poop' the babies out. And they come out in eggs. He knows he was 'cut out of my belly' though so every time I go to the dr, he asks if they're going to cut baby brother out that day.

So DS will be 3 at the end of April. And has zero interest in the potty. Zero. He is actually vehemently against it.
Is it bad bad that I have no motivation to push him? I’ve heard it’s easier when they are ready. And I don’t really want it to be a fight for either of us because it will take longer and be a thing.
I am a SAHM and we use cloth. So I don’t really have any reason to push him. Am I crazy for wanting to just let him lead it? We talk about it a lot but not in a pushy way. And he is frequently in the bathroom with me or DH. So he knows all about it. We even have a few books.
Part of me doesn’t care to push it. But at this point I kind of think our DD (current pregnancy) will be potty learned before him. Haha
@BurlapandLace I have no real advice only because I haven't been through it yet, but I have heard that boys can take well after 3 to be ready. And everything I've read says that it truly is best to wait until the kids are ready and showing the signs. I say you do you mama
Me: 28 | Husband: 39 Married March 2016 DD: born 7.22.16 DS EDD: 6.23.18
@BurlapandLace yeah, my DD will be 3 beginning of July and she honestly knows what the toilet is for and will occasionally ask to sit on it and will pee there when she wants. But if I ask her to or try to bring her in there she fights me. So I’m really not pushing because I know with her personality it has to be her idea. I mean I’m ready for her to, but at the same time it’s not worth the power struggle? Our pediatrician the other day told me she really thinks we should get it done before the new baby comes but I’m just not sure if I’m going to push it. Since DD stays home with me, the pedi did suggest to get her around some other 3 year olds (but not too much older like 4-5) so she can see that kids her age are potty training too. *shrugs*
@lisa2589 - while on one hand I can see why the ped would suggest getting it done before baby comes, I’ve heard that kids often regress on potty learning when a new baby comes into the picture. So that’s something to consider too. DS is the same personality. If it isn’t his idea, it’s going to be a fight. And this is a battle I don’t really choose to fight right now. Especially with the high likelihood he will regress in June. The last thing I need to be dealing with is toddler potty accidents when I am also handling a newborn. Diapers until he is ready as far as I’m concerned. Now watch. He will want to start going potty on the potty at the end of May. Haha
thanks @sunshineandwhiskey - that’s what I’ve read and heard too. So that was my initial gut on it. But then I hear other moms talk about their boys beinf potty trained before two and the mom doubt and guilt creeps in that I am not even trying with my almost three year old.
@burlapandlace after awhile i was really into letting DS lead. So He didn't start till he was 3.5. I mean we had the potty around long before that. Sat him on it before every bath. Pleaded with him. He just didn't want to. He is extremely strong willed and hyperactive... so if he's lost interest, there's no talking (or pleading) with him. So i was like I'll wait till he's ready. Finally at 3.5, I was like ok we need to get serious. And it ended up being fairly smooth! He had a couple accidents the first day or two, then it just clicked. I really think his age helped it all. Within a couple months, I felt brave enough to get rid of night time diapers and pull-ups when we left the house (which he never messed up.. but i used for my own sanity). so I always say don't feel pressured! Every kid is different!
What we did though was use a chart. And bare butt and undies right away. Asking him to check if they were wet constantly... he had to reach down and feel his undies to tell us. He was obsessed with the alphabet so we made a sticker chart... every time he peed he could put the next letter up, and when he pooped, he could do 2. After so many stickers, he got a special treat.

@BurlapandLace@lisa2589 I totally see why your pedi would recommend that, however, I've read you aren't supposed to implement any "big" changes within 5 months (I think) of a big life event. And that is interesting the pedi would want her to be around other kids that are potty training. Babies are weird creatures, thats all I know haha
@BurlapandLace I feeling like potty training is just like the walking, crawling, and all that other "my baby did it first crap." It is all so crazy how we are constantly comparing and feeling mom guilt for things that are totally normal within society. You are awesome and just remember you are doing an amazing job! And all else fails, he'll be potty trained by college at least
Me: 28 | Husband: 39 Married March 2016 DD: born 7.22.16 DS EDD: 6.23.18
@sunshineandwhiskey thank you. My uncle passed on Wednesday afternoon. We will be driving to Minneapolis in the morning for his vistation in the afternoon. Should be interesting with 4 littles and a pregnant lady in a minivan for at least 3 hours.
@BurlapandLace I’m in the camp of just following their lead when it comes to potty training. I’m a SAHM too, so there was no deadline regarding classrooms or anything. I just let her decided when she was ready. She is pretty strong-willed and puts up a huge fit over things she doesn’t want to do. One day she just asked for big girl panties and started using the potty. She was more or less potty trained in 2 days. It was not without some accidents but potty training was always something I dreaded and it was pretty darn easy just waiting it out.
@BurlapandLace My son is 3 (in November) and he is a stubborn butt. He WILL NOT pee in the potty. He will hold it all day so he doesn't pee on the floor and will then pee in the bath or in his pull up. It is easier not to fight.
Team let them decide when they’re ready over here. I’m actually dreading the “do you have to go?” phase anyway, so I’m hoping he is good and ready when we go that route. I’m also a SAHM so I realize not everyone can do that, but it will work for us.
Were your babies close in birth weight/size? I'm sure it varies greatly and there might not be a consensus, but just curious about your experience. With my first, I heeded the advice to not buy much NB clothing in case he was a big baby. He was 7lbs at birth and didn't fit into 0-3 month clothes until 8 weeks. Luckily we had a lot of NB hand me downs to tide him over. We don't have any girl hand me downs for this new baby (not that she won't be in her brother's clothes, but I want some girly stuff). If she's similar to him, she'll probably be tiny (he's 15 months and can still fit most 9 month clothes) but who knows if that will be the case. What do you guys think? (you know I just want an excuse to buy those teeny tiny dresses and sleepers )
@katelynrae86 my kids both weighed the same at birth. DD was tiny and wore clothes for longer and DS has stuck pretty close to the sizing. He’s 18m now and starting to get into 18m clothes. DD was still in 9-12m at that time. I definitely bought wayyy more clothes for DD than DS. Those cute dresses are hard to resist.
@BurlapandLace DS is 27 months and is just about potty trained (~1 accident per week). He is definitely early but he was ready and interested. Have you read any books? I followed the Oh Crap book and it says that kids have certain signs that show they are ready. We waited for those signs and it worked for us. But boys are notoriously difficult to train and it will be easier when he’s ready. I say wait.
@katelynrae86 DS was a 9 pounder and DD was a 7 pounder (she seemed so tiny to me!) DS lasted in NB for like a week but DD was in the teeny tiny diapers and sleepers for a while.
@burlapandlace I have been cloth diapering 2 kids for the past 16 months. It's not a huge increase in workload but I did have to buy more cloth diapers. I don't subscribe to any philosophy about the best age to potty train, I just didn't have the energy to push potty training until now and luckily DS is showing interest now too. (He turned 3 in November.) With your timeline your son might start showing interest right when baby arrives which could be tricky but it could also be tricky to try to push it before baby comes if he's not ready. And regression issues could occur like PPs mentioned. If you plan to have him in preschool next fall that's another consideration (in my area all the 3 y.o. classes require kids to be potty trained.
@MLS6212 Yes the mattress on the floor is great. We use a "door monkey" (pic in spoiler).
@katelynrae86 my kids weighed about the same, but DS was much longer than DD so he didn't fit in premie clothes like she had. DD was 5lbs 14oz and wore premie clothes. I think DS was 6lbs, but longer. I have to go look up lengths, lol.
@BurlapandLace my son is 2.5 and has to be mostly potty trained by 3 to go to preschool. He has to go to preschool to get speech services after he turns 3 (august), so my hands are kind of tied. Right now speech comes to our house once a week, but once he turns 3 they won't come anymore. He will sit on the potty but will hold everything until he has a diaper on. It's a big source of stress, but I'm hoping once we're closer to 3 he'll be ready.
@May14th2011 does he like school? My nephew did the same thing. When my brother told him he couldn’t go to school in the next few weeks, nephew realized he was serious, and the problem was solved, haha. They’d been telling him for months, but it clicked as school/being 3 got closer.
GAh! All this potty talk has me thinking. DD got a potty and potty book for Christmas. (Among other things, haha! It was her: something you need, something to read)
She will show interest in being in big girl unders, and sitting on the potty. She shows signs of when she is going... so we are close me thinks. That being said DH works all day Sat and Sun, then nights MTW. So DD is in daycare... which will train her in the day, but then (guilty mom voice) I will have to do all of it my pregnant self... after work, and all day on the weekend! DH also isn;t a routine, or structure guy. (like literally I cannot hold him to ANYTHING, timeline or routine wise. He feels "stifled". FARGE.) So this is literally on me.
Hoping with her interest in sleeping in Big Girl Bed, and now facing forward in her car seat like a big girl, that this will continue. She is all about dressing her self, feeding herself, and being Lil Miss independent... Do I have hope ladies?

@rnielsen321 yes, there is hope but try not to feel too rushed. We started slowly with DD right around her second birthday (I was 8 months pregnant) reading potty books and occasionally sitting on the potty, just trying to familiarize her with it but not really getting serious. She peed somewhat consistently on the potty for nearly a year before finally going #2. I knew she had been ready for awhile, but because of our schedules (and to avoid new baby-induced regression) we kept putting it off. Once we started sending her to daycare in undies (just after her third birthday,) she started getting really into it. It took about a month before she got the hang of things. We're six months in and aside from a few minor accidents, she's doing great. It may not be easy, but you will get through it!
@llamamama14 Unfortunately, we have two a-hole cats who would destroy the door frame or carpeting outside the door if they weren't allowed inside a bedroom. Otherwise that would work nicely.
Me: 33 DH: 34 DS1: March 18, 2016 DS2: due June 7, 2018
@rnielsen321 we haven't night trained DS yet (we trained him at the end of November). So you can definitely do this in steps too. Start small with books and peeing when she wants (before bath?). Then go from there.
We trained DS1 in literally 3 days when he was 27 months old. I think we just hit the timing right. We did it over a long weekend and at the time he was being watched by another mom with only his baby brother and one other young kid there, so she helped reinforce what we started. We went cold turkey from diapers to underwear - for naps, overnight and everything. It went so smoothly I honestly patted myself on the back on how awesome we were at this.
DS2 is a totally different story. He had a urology surgery a few months before he was 3, so we didn't want to potty train until we were past that (knowing he'd have a catheter in for a week after the surgery and we didn't want that to create setbacks). Surgery was in July. He needed to be potty trained by early September to start preschool. The whole process was a nightmare. Our daycare was in a state of transition at the time, and while DS2 started out pretty good for the long weekend with full focus on him and the potty, it all fell to sh*t when nothing was enforced with our daycare. He literally had no successes all week long after he had only had 2 accidents the day before I returned him to daycare. Our potty training process went from August to essentially last month. After a month or so, pee in the potty clicked. Overnight clicked shortly after. But #2 was a fight until it started to click at Thanksgiving. I honestly think our daycare screwed it all up for us and I'm still bitter about it.
It's great to have a diaper free household right now... if only until June.

@katelynrae86 - My boys both weighed similar and were both early (6 lbs 5 oz at 38 weeks and 5 lbs 12 oz at 37 weeks, 3 days). Neither DH or I are very tall or large people. I think I was an 8 lb baby and he was 9 lbs. So I was surprised that our kids were so small. I wasn't prepared with DS1 and had next to nothing in newborn for DS1. I literally went to Walmart and bought $5 sleepers that he lived in the first month or two.

With your timeline your son might start showing interest right when baby arrives which could be tricky but it could also be tricky to try to push it before baby comes if he's not ready.
5 - IUIs, 3 - IVF retrievals, 2- failed transfers (fresh, and frozen), PGS on second IVF resulted in 1 perfect emby, and DD.
3rd IVF w PGS resulted in 3! perfect embys. 1st transfer - Sep 2017 2 more on ice.
