@jrm_14, the scale is the worst. I am up 5 pounds. But, I think I average 10-15 around the holidays, sooo..... It could be worse.
Our CO detector has been going off, and for the last hour, I have been trying to clear the air in the house. I know what caused it fortunately, but it is almost 2 and now I will probably be unable to sleep all night.
@holly321 ha... Funny story about our CO2 detector. Once upon a time in the Coconuts household Mr Coconuts unplugged the CO2 detector to use an outlet and never replugged it in. Fast forward a few days and I am awoken to the sound of beeping, cursing, and "babe please come here, I need help." I enter the bathroom to discover blood EVERYWHERE, a pocket knife, the beeping CO2 detector, and H clutching his hand. The CO2 detector started going off and H's first thought was "Oh no, alarm is beeping! Must stop beeping! I know, I gotta take the batteries out!" (Clearly he's safety conscious because when an alarm goes off you don't look to see why it's beeping. Your mission is to make the beeping stop.) And for convenience sake, he decided I'm not going to waste my time searching for a screwdriver, I'll just use one of my pocket knives to unscrew the battery compartment. I'll let you deduce how well that worked. Should he have gotten stitches? Oh yeah. But neither of us wanted to wake the sleeping 6 year old to take Einstein to the hospital so we butterfly badaged/compression wrapped it. Oh, and I got the CO2 detector to stop beeping by plugging it into an outlet. Moral of the story: brute force does not beat deductive reasoning. Coconuts: +1, Mr Coconuts: 0, plus a new scar.
Eta: I wasn't even fazed nor was this the first time I've bandaged him up after injuring himself by doing something stupid. There was also the time we had a drunken hatchet weilding madman in our campsite (spoiler alert: H was the drunken hatchet weilding madman).

@holly321 I hope you got some rest! @lurvleybunchococonuts Hahaha!!! Love it. We need the hatchet story sometime. @jrm_14 at least you thought about actually exercising. Lately I just skip that part and go straight back to laziness and food.
@lurvleybunchococonuts I feel bad that I'm cracking up at YH's injury but that's such a great story! I think you need to tell us the drunken hatchet weilding madman story too. @holly321 I hope you were able to get some sleep finally. @jrm_14 I don't blame you. It's far too cold to work out right now, even inside the house!
@lurvleybunchococonuts MH also has a pension for cutting his hands open, with knives or without. Once he cut himself opening a can of lighter fluid with a knife. Another time he drunkenly grabbed a friend’s steak knife at dinner (my friends still tease him about having blood on their dining room table). I’m always pessimistic when DH plays with knives. And lately he’s been shopping for a new pocket knife. ::rolls eyes::

Speaking of scales...I start the gym today. I somehow gained 15 lbs in the past Two years. It’s weird how it sneaks up like that.

@galactickates It was a snooze fest once my head hit the pillow. @holly321 I will trade you my wright gain for your 5 pounds @meatballs37 15 in 2 years? I’ll take it!! Way to go for getting back to the gym. Be kind to yourself @lurvleybunchococonuts I’m snort laughing thinking of your H that story
@lurvleybunchococonuts Now that is a funny story! Looking forward to the hatchet story lol @meatballs37 Good luck with your new gym routine! I've got an elliptical and a stationary bike in my basement that I swear I will start using this month.
It's my first day back at work after two weeks off, and I am having such a hard time getting my head back in the game. I'm so tired from worrying about being tired lol
@offtoneverland We have a treadmill and some weights at home. It’s too cold in that room, though! @spottedginger I don’t like to worry about working out until my pants don’t fit
@lurvleybunchococonuts - That was hilarious! Sounds like something my dad would do, no joke. He broke his arm once because he was trying to jump a sprinkler and not get wet to turn off the water. The man could've walked around the sprinkler and turned it off that way but decided to take a "short cut." We still give him crap about that even though it happened a good 20 years ago.
+1 on the weight gain, y'all I lost 50 pounds from lap band surgery aaaaaaaaaaand gained 15 back over the holidays. You may wonder how one could gain weight after weight loss surgery but I assure you, it's very easy. The idea is if you tie off the stomach at the top and leave a small pouch with a decreased stomach opening and you eat small meals, the food will slowly filter to the rest of your stomach and cause you to feel satisfied much sooner with much less food. But obesity is a bitch and it wants you to stay fat FOREVER (I read a study that once you lose 10% of your body weight your hormones go nuts until the desire to overeat is literally irresistible and since it's not the stone ages when food was scarce, you find yourself 3 plates deep at the buffet table crying into your dessert and begging yourself to stop).
But really. What one should do with a lap band is eat lean proteins, fruits, veggies, blah blah blah like everyone else. It works because those foods don't slip right through the band and will, in fact, leave you feeling satisfied. It's great. That being said, during the holidays everything is slathered in gravy, butter, chocolate, or all of the above and that makes the food very easy to pass through the small stomach which makes it very easy to overeat. That combined with wine? Yeah. You can eat mounds of mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, fudge, cookies, pies, and candy with zero problems.
I noticed my pants didn't feel so great towards the end of December so now it's time to lose the regain and keep losing because I'm only halfway to my goal weight.
Weight Watchers for the win! They changed their program and it's actually really appealing now. Is anyone else on the program? They used to have a list of zero-point foods (foods you can eat as much as you want without having to track) but it was all vegetables and a handful of low-sugar fruits. If you screwed up your day and ate too much all you could have for dinner was a punishing bowl of WW vegetable soup. But now their zero-point foods also include all fruits and veggies plus lean proteins like chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, and beans. The points you DO use are intended to track foods higher in fat, carbs, and sugars. It's great because if you want to gorge on 2 pieces of cheesecake that night you just basically live off lean proteins and fruits/veggies for zero points and then tear the hell out of your dessert. My mom's friend saves all her points so she can drink a bottle of prosecco a night. Not sure if that's really the wisest way to utilize the plan but whatever works.
Anyway, sorry for the monologue. I'm just venting because I'm mad at myself but I'm also excited to be back on track. Curious to know, too, if anyone else is doing Weight Watchers.
On my drive into work this morning there was the most beautiful sunrise. I forgot how much I love the sunrises in the winter. Half the year I don't get to see them because of daylight savings. In spoiler.
@lurvleybunchococonuts that sounds exactly like something my H would do. Brute force does not solve all. So pretty! @galactickates I love winter sunrises and sunsets.
I need to get in better shape too. I'm an okay weight for my height (but more than my usual) but I've got kind of the skinny-fat thing going on. Not a fan. I didn't even really eat extra over the holidays or anything, I've just been lazy AF lately.

I made DH watch the bachelor with me last night. He hates it but his commentary is excellent. Anyone else watching? I’m pretty much just biding my time until the bachelor winter games.
@wishiwaspreggo, yes, I just started Weight Watchers last week! I had some success with their plan a few years ago but I’m really liking this latest version of the program. So far, anyway.
@spottedginger, DH and I watched The Bachelor last night too. We’re not crazy about Arie, though. Definitely more excited about the Winter Games!
@spottedginger@Augusta108 I watched! I think Arie seems boring, but hopefully he'll get more interesting as the show plays out. The Bachelor is so much more drama than The Bachelorette!
@lurvleybunchococonuts@wishiwaspreggo@coco2787 My father used a hammer to try to get a toilet seat off, when I was a child. Spoiler alert: It didn’t work and cracked the toilet bowl. This was before 24hr Walmart’s everywhere. He had to drive 45minutes one way to go get the part at 9pm. Our water had to be shut off until he had it fixed. Needless to say, he isn’t very handy.
Along the same theme - DH is super handy except for his actual hands... he drops/loses everything. He can literally fix almost anything. It's crazy. Cars, house hold stuff, anything... it just takes him 10 years because he'll manage to drop the tiniest screw in the engine bay when its dark and he can barely see or reach it, or a random small part will roll in a place he can't find. His famous words are "I'll be done in 5 minutes" I automatically know to go put a movie on or settle in because it's going to be awhile. When he's finally done hours later he ALWAYS follows up with "well it would have been 5 minutes if *fill in blank*." Now he tries to add in "Just a quick 5 minute repair, I'm serious this time! I mean it!" <-- = kiss of death. But to his credit we save a ton of money because he's Mr. Fix It!
Way off topic but thought somebody might get a smile out of my pathetic pup - My dog is in a cone until the weekend because she has a corneal ulcer (little scratch on her eye) - dogs in cones are the saddest/funniest thing ever.
@elothair Aww! Is your pup lying on a table? Haha. She is so cute! Hope her eye heals quickly!
Has anyone watched Bright on Netflix yet? We watched half of it tonight and it was so, so awful. We finally turned it off after getting really confused at the storyline.
@offtoneverland We watched it! It was so bad!! It started off with so much potential, but they failed completely on the story-line. DH was a sucker for the soundtrack, but it was a major let down. Will Smith will be kicking himself on that one for many years to come.
@jrm_14 - that reminds me of when my W tried to build a little night stand and only used a hammer! And, like your father, it did not end well. Luckily it wasn't a necessity like a toilet (couldn't imagine!) but it was an eyesore for a long time.
There's a stereotype about lesbians being handy. W and I are pathetic when it comes to household maintenance. We have a friend who helps us out and does the work for cheap. Don't know what we'd do without him.
One time I walked into a room and saw W struggling to put a vacuum together. She said she'd spent 20 minutes on it already and couldn't figure out how it worked. I walked over, flipped the piece she had in her hands, and slid it into the main part of the vacuum. She has many, many talents but assembling furniture/devices is not her forte. I do it all myself now!
@offtoneverland Haha, yes she is! She likes to lay on the end table beside the chair where I normally sit when I work since I won't let her sit on my lap when I have my computer she feels like it's the next best thing.
Who here spins? I tried a spin class at our gym today...omg. Why do they not make the seats padded? Like why?! DH and I DTD last night and then I went to the class this morning. Never again. I think I will stick with the yoga and Zumba classes.
