I still don’t like pets and view them as an unnecessary responsibility... it’s weird though because I had pets the entire time I was growing up, and have owned a dog and two cats since moving out. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having pets, but it pisses me off when people say my child needs a pet to learn responsibility /eyeroll
@ivyvines6 makes me so sad! I can't imagine our life without our dog. However...I do agree with you...it's weird that people say a child NEEDS a pet to learn responsibility. Honestly, my dogs pretty low maintenance, so he wouldn't really teach our kid much responsibility hahah.
Did I already say this one? I honestly can't remember. It weirds me out when adults still refer to their parents as Mommy and Daddy. Really anyone over like, 10. If you still call them Mommy or Daddy to their face, that's not strange necesssarily, but if you're talking about them to someone else and call them Mommy and Daddy I side eye you in my head a little bit. Edited because I got cut off

I had cats for my entire adult life. Last year our beloved kitty died and we decided no more . We adopted a dog and will forever be dog people. I still love cats, but I can’t handle the peeing. Every one I’ve ever had pees on random household items. I know not all of them do this, but literally every cat I’ve ever owned does. Also, I don’t like the furniture scratching. I know dogs can be super destructive too, but so far ours is not. So, we are no longer cat people, but I will gladly snuggle with them at other peoples’ houses:-)
We rescued our dog and I will forever be a dog owner. I will also only ever rescue/adopt pets. Our poor guy was found in terrible conditions and is just so thankful to have a home. He's actually pretty easy, I definitely can't complain.
My UO is I don't get the appeal of massive celebrity engagement rings. Have you seen Paris Hilton's rock? I think it's so obnoxious and unnecessary to have a ring that big. It also kind of looks like costume jewelry to me.

I have a cat and a dog. DH is pretty firm on no more cats after this one dies. After the dog dies, I might be team no pets until my kids are out of the house. I guess it depends how old the kids are.
Maybe not as unpopular as I though, but I don’t understand the appeal of cats. Like at least my dogs greet me and are excited to see me. If I wanted something to think I’m stupid and look at me like I’m nuts, I’d hang out with my toddler.
I also don’t get little yappy dogs. I’ve got big dogs...my lab is 80lbs and the shepherd is 60lbs. They’re pretty worthless but at least when I trip over them they don’t get hurt.
Okay so my UO and something that’s been rubbing me the wrong way today: I don’t understand when pregnant women say there’s a point when they can’t do bedtime with their other kids anymore. There’s a whole thread in a FB group I’m in about how DH helps and then takes over when they can’t do it. I understand if you have health issues or are on bedrest cause obviously I didn’t have mine for 6 weeks because of this. But like, DH is NEVER home to do bedtime. Maybe twice a month. I just feel like people use pregnancy to get out of doing things.
@doraleigh35 and @cups4 my first thought was she bought the ring too. It's worth $2 million and he isn't a very famous actor. I feel like that ring costs more than his net worth. But yea, it doesn't really matter if she did buy it. I just spend way too much time reading celeb gossip and wondering about these things.
@doraleigh35 Not that it matters (but as I said, I have a problem with celeb gossip): Paris' sister Nicky Hilton is married with two kids (just had the second one a few weeks ago), so maybe that is the married Hilton sister you were thinking of
@silverhope wasn't Paris engaged before? I guess they never got married, but that's what I was thinking of. I only remember, because his name was Paris too.
I hated cats until I got one and he's the best. He is super friendly but I've heard of so many others who aren't so it's probably hit or miss. My dogs annoy the hell out of me especially since the baby was born. Once these 3 animals kick the bucket we aren't getting any more pets. Unfortunately I recently looked up the life expectancy of our chihuahua/beagle mix and it's 15-20 years. He's only 2 ugh!
@sandbar517 I call my parents mommy and daddy still!! I'm trying so hard to stop but it's hard to break the habit. I call them Mom and dad to their face and to non-family members but say mommy and daddy when I'm talking to my siblings. We all admit that we need to stop it.
I call my parents Mom and Dad but I refer to my mom as “Mami” which I guess is the Spanish version of mommy? Doesn’t have the same childlike effect though (at least to me).
-Give me all the dogs!!! Our first dog was from a litter my mom's neighbor had a couple of months after my dog died. Our other is a rescue. I love them both so much. So do our kids. Yes we need to take care of them, but they're so low maintenance. And I love the extra security they give me.
-DH basically does our "bedtime routine" all alone and has for awhile, even before pregnancy. When he is home, he is an invited as he possibly can be. And sometimes, it puts me to shame.
My uo- I don't think every child needs a long, drawn out bedtime routine. Our twins have a time we put them to bed. We brush their teeth beforehand, sometimes right before sometimes 30 minutes before. Sometimes we read a few books before, sometimes we are on the tv watching a show as a family before, sometimes we're chasing them and tickling them right before. We've never been strict with the routine and they go to bed just fine (minus regressions and such). So we do that, they tell me goodnight, DH takes them upstairs, puts them in their beds, and then monitors them until they're sleeping.
@suchaglencoco when DH is home he does it too and does wayyyy better than I could ever hope to! If he was home daily, it would 100% be his job. I’m not against dad’s doing it. I just scratch my head and wonder why they say they can’t because they’re pregnant. Like somehow they’re broken.
I’m a dog person. I’m obsessed with my dogs but I hate when people get dogs who don’t want the commitment. I would rather someone not rescue a dog than get one and not treat it right or give it up.
Celebrities (or anyone) who tries to be cute by acting dumb are the worst so Paris Hilton = the worst.
UO I don’t absolutely hate the cold weather. I mean, I do, but my work often closes early or closes completely when it’s super cold so I’m not complaining!
@Poppy0419, completely agree. Although I sometimes go in by them after awhile if they have a nightmare or something and lay by their bed until they fall asleep. It's getting harder and harder to do that, haha.
@sandbar517 MH took over bedtime for me so I wasn’t attached to him from the time he woke up til he passed out. It also cut down on nursing. I used pregnancy as an excuse in that instance when putting him into the crib was starting to really hurt my bump, which happened fairly early, and I wasn’t expecting it.
@suchaglencoco Our bedtime routine is short too. Get dressed in PJ’s, brush teeth, read a couple stories, then bed. Sometimes he needs more cuddles to help him chill but that’s it. Bath isn’t part of the routine, and we don’t sing either.
We don’t have a long drawn out bedtime routine either. We brush teeth/put on PJs/read a book (each kid chooses their own) go to bed. Paris Hilton is absurd. I don’t get earrings on little kids either. My LOs aren’t allowed to get their ears pierced until they show some consistency with personal hygiene. At this rate, they’ll be 18 before they get them pierced haha! I do pass the youngest kid off to DH for bedtime while I’m pregnant. Not because I can’t do it, but because I will be nursing a newborn soon and the toddler needs to get used to mommy not putting them to bed. He has reasonable work hours now, so it isn’t a big deal. When we were younger and he worked all the time I did bedtime.
@kpc914 I totally agree. I have no intention of piercing baby girl’s ears. She can get them pierced when she gets older. I remember it was such a huge deal when I got to go for my 9th birthday.
We we have a longer bedtime routine, but DS needs the time to settle down. He takes a bath, puts on pjs, gets to watch one episode of a show he likes, and then we read a book. It takes awhile but he needs the time to decompress and does really well with the routine. He’s also not a total mess if we have alter to skip parts. Like we are at Disneyland today and he will likely fall asleep in the car and skip it all.
@mileswithmyles, I think some kids need a routine and time to settle down. I just remember feeling like we NEEDED a drawn out routine for bedtime based off of what other moms told me or things I read when the twins first came. It's was another minor stressor for me. Then we realized the twins are good with routine or no routine.
@silverhope i will forgive your lack of Paris Hilton knowledge because, well, I'm ashamed I know it.
I wish our bedtime routine was less drawn out. My 4yo makes it a huge production every night. In theory we do teeth, PJs, books, talk, snuggle but he negotiates so hard
@silverhope hahaha nice. Though Kendall is missing the lunchbox purse and uhhh "fancy" headband?? Idk what's on her head but it's shiny and strange.
@suchaglencoco our bedtime routine is short too. Just works best for us. It goes: Teeth brushing, potty break, jammies, 1 book, hugs &kisses and we out! I do remember bedtime taking forever when DS was a baby though. He nursed to sleep and was a slooooooow eater. Hoping this one is quicker !
Re: UO 1/4
But I can throw one out randomly. I used to be a cat person until I owned dogs and now I am completely a dog person and do not want a cat.

So pointless. My husband has had him for 15 years though soooo if he had to choose between him or me, he’d probably choose the dog. Hahah
