Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else) - I'm sure this is being discussed on other threads, but can it please just get warm(er)?! DD and I have not been able to run around outside since before Christmas. We need to go to a playground! I took her to an indoor play place this morning and she was super happy and ran all around, but I'd really rather have her outside. We were out for a few minutes over the weekend and last week, but then yesterday when I suggested going outside as it was a relatively balmy 24 degrees, my daughter started crying no and saying it was too cold. Poor kid, she's right, so I didn't make her go out.
GTKY: Any New Year's resolutions? I resolve to keep going to barre classes for as long as I can in the pregnancy (I recently bought a 10-pack so I will go until that runs out at 30ish weeks at the very least) and then get back into it as quickly as a I can after birth. It's so hard and kind of expensive, but it makes me feel so much fitter.

@maplemom18 I know we don’t have it as bad as the rest of the country here in Florida, but I’m tired of washing our only warm enough to deal with this weather clothes every other day. J has just been running around in pajamas for the most part, and he’s really sick of socks.
@lincbeesmom J has days like that where he’s made of Velcro and I want to pry him off and ditch him somewhere... It’s a little easier if I set aside projects to do with him for a while, and then set him up to play independently for a while. My kid is weird though and will randomly go off on his own to read books, so I’m probably not much help.

@doraleigh35 I’ve never been good as setting and keeping a cleaning schedule. The only thing I’m semi good at is washing ALL of the laundry every Wednesday, and doing the dishes every night. I need to make a calendar or something to keep me doing it like a proper stay at home parent...
@mileswithmyles I just kind of hug it out with J when he’s like that... I calmly explain why he can’t have the thing or do the stuff and when he calms down I redirect. Other times it really seems to help him self regulate.

Im going to try less multitasking, more focus on hobbies I've neglected. Hoping to burn out less with this. Balance @ivyvines6i love the chores stage... When they are excited to help out that is lol. DS feeds our cat and helps unload the dishwasher (plastic things) as well as helps sort and put clothes in the washing machine. He loves it! If I try to do any of it without him I hear this tiny voice behind me say "Mommy what you doing?? Let me help!"
@mileswithmyles we do a modified time out. We remove DS from the situation/room, crouch down to his level, tell him it's ok to feel the way he does but he needs to use his words to express himself and that sometimes we have to do things that we don't want to so that later we can get to do the things that make us happy. It mostly works, depending on how worked up he is. For DS it seems to be that he needs to feel his opinion is acknowledged so we try to find a way to do it in a calmer manner without caving in to give him what he is screaming about.
@ivyvines6 thanks. We just had a stage 5 meltdown. Holy moly. I had to just put him in his room until he calmed down enough to even try to talk to him. He was incoherent. He calmed down, but everything set him off, included the fact that I don’t have a penis to pee out of. I’m thinking he didn’t nap at school today. He just fell asleep in the car in the 10 minutes it took to drive to Chipotle.

GTKY: Any New Year's resolutions? just to get back on track after holiday eating and lounging about.
@lincbeesmom Oh man! I thought the clinging would get better with age, so I'm bummed to find out it hasn't for you yet. When my DD has to have me by her side, it's super sweet, but also super annoying when I know she's capable of playing happily by herself when I have things I want/need to do. It seems to depend on her mood. I imagine the clinging will have to change once baby #2 gets here, but I hope it's not too terrible of a change for the older ones...
@mileswithmyles ha! Isn’t this age so fun??? Oh man... when My son has melt downs like that, we also put him in his room to calm down, then talk. I try really hard to avoid things that trigger meltdowns, being overly tired, hungry, bored. Sometimes it’s out of nowhere, and I have to blame the age. We try to give him as many options as possible. From what I have read, 2 is so difficult bc they feel out of control, and have a hard time explaining their emotions. So... “I know your upset bc you want to watch TV. But that isn’t an option right now. Here are the options you have: we could play with trains, color, read books, or go outside... what would you like to do?” Sometimes it helps, sometimes I swear it doesn’t matter what I say. If im deserpate to get things done, I may try to compromise... “okay I’m going to set a timer for 10 mins, if you play nicely for that time, you can watch X tv show after that.”
Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else) - We’re attempting to move DD2 out of the nursery and in with DD1 next week... I’m just praying they’ll sleep! I ordered stackable twin beds from Wayfair and will start with them separated for now.

Nothing too much this week. Although, for being basically house bound for the last week due to the cold, they don't seem to he going too stir crazy!
My brother and his family are in town for the next couple of days and seeing all of the kids play together tonight was great. My kids are just in awe of their older cousins. It's so cute.
GTKY: Any New Year's resolutions?
I want to keep up with the gym as much as I can. DH has already mentioned me getting back asap after baby is born because he knows how important it is to me. I said "you'll have 3 kids by yourself, let's not rush it". His response "you'll have 3 all day by yourself! I can do it for an hour". Love that man.
My other goal is to say no more to family. So far so good! My mother tried a mini guilt trip twice tonight about a dinner tomorrow and I stuck to my guns and refused her numerous offers.
@holli0801@MissusTexas 3 does suck. I swear a switch flipped in him on his third birthday. Today was one of the days where nothing was working, except the car nap before dinner. He’s been an angel since.
@holli0801 glad you had fun at the zoo! Those days are so nice to recently everything.
@MissusTexas those beds sound cool! GL with the move.
@mileswithmyles DS has been generally pretty good as far as tantrums go. That said, the ones he has had have been pretty rough on me. I have zero patience and a spicy temper so the whole hush tones and talking like a grown up with him just doesn’t work for me. I’m pretty sure it’s a Dominican thing. We just rile each other up until we’re all yelling. DH is wayyyy better at patience and understanding then I am. We balance each other out.
@mileswithmyles@lincbeesmom my nephew just turned 4 on the 31st and she texted me today to let me know that if this is what 4 is like, she wants to go back to 3. He's been really testing his limits and has actually started hitting and kicking when he doesn't get his way. She's at a complete loss. My mil (not married to SO but that's what I'll refer her to as) says 3 is her favorite age!
I think no one prepares you for 3. Everyone says watch out for the terrible 2s but my boys at 2 were not bad. 3 on the other hand I will say though, at least in my house, 4s have been better than 3 by a long shot.
Boy/Girl/ Team Green/Don't Know Yet? Hoping to find out at my AS today!

Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else) - We are at the tail end of sleep training my daughter for MOTN wakings. It hasn't been so bad and we've gotten a few solid 11 hour nights from her. Hoping this keeps up!
GTKY: Any New Year's resolutions? Just to try to drink more water. I used to be good at that but all of my good habits have disappeared this past year. @mileswithmyles my daughter once set an alarm on my phone for 3am. There are also lots of her toys that she can make play a song or do something that I can't figure out how to do myself. How do they do this stuff??
@sandbar517 sorry that Hannah is having night terrors! Are there any techniques to help with them? My brother had them as a kid and so did his daughter but I'm not sure if they've figure out a way to deal with it.
I don't have any advice for those of you dealing with tough toddlers but you are scaring the heck out of me!!
I'm only up to 3.5, so I don't have much of an opinion, but I think it's gotten slightly easier as my girls get older and are better able to both express themselves and understand what I'm telling them. A lot of times a meltdown is proceeded with them telling me, "But I will be sad/cry/get mad" (if they don't get what they want). I tell them, "You're allowed to be angry/sad/cry, but you can't do xyz because xyz." If that doesn't work, I usually just make them go into a different room until they calm down, mostly try to ignore them and then talk to them again after they calm down about why I didn't let them do xyz, and distraction usually works wonders, too. ETA Thank you everyone, the night terrors are no fun, but I think knowing-or at least being pretty sure- that that's what it is and that she's not in pain/uncomfortable makes it a lot easier. Also ETA @fraufarbissina I don't think there's anything to do for the night terrors. She doesn't remember them the next day, so it's pretty much just trying to hold her and comfort her until she wakes up and is able to fully calm down. It's such a helpless feeling, and hopefully it's only happened 2 or 3 times so far. Abby had a period where I think she was going through the same thing, and she seemed to grow out of it pretty quickly.

Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else) - We had such a nice vacation. The girls are at a great age where they can do things on their own but we can also take them to do more fun things. We went to the circus, they had a day and night with Grandma, quick tour of the hospital cause i needed to go in for a blood test, assembled a gingerbread house from a lot, went to the museum... It was all really nice. Made me scared for the changes, but they are so excited that it helps.
GTKY: Any New Year's resolutions? @fraufarbissina had a good one - i should definitely focus on driving more water @doraleigh35 i also want to work on organizing the house. I would love to have a thread where we set goals and follow up. Not sure it would help anyone else though.
@ivyvines6 i used to try to follow fly lady (before you could "follow"). She has all this stuff for SAHMs for staying neat and organized. (I was living alone so it didn't all apply to me.) @glitzandglitter I'm jealous you get an extra week off! i think 3 and 4 are harder than 2. 6 seems to get a little easier. We did a lot of ignoring of tantrums. And distracting. I try to say things in an excited voice. So, if a kid is throwing a fit over wanting to watch TV but i in want them to color, I'll pick up a crayon and go "this is such a pretty red! I wonder if they hate will look good in red". If they keep up and it gets out of hand, they have to go to their room for time alone or we hold them or say the stuff someone else was saying "you are allowed to be angry, but we can't just and it's not time to watch TV". Sooner of that has gotten easier because by 4 they understand that they will gets a chance you do it later. The more I'm able to tolerate tantrums, the better i parent. And I agree with @lincbeesmom it's nice to write it all out. It doesn't quite play out as peacefully.

@mileswithmyles no suggestions on how to stop a tantrum, but I'm also always looking for ideas!! DD throws them a ton. My new attempt is to talk to her on her level when I see one about to happen. Sometimes I can explain or change her focus, others she still completely loses it.

Nothing too much this week. Although, for being basically house bound for the last week due to the cold, they don't seem to he going too stir crazy!
My brother and his family are in town for the next couple of days and seeing all of the kids play together tonight was great. My kids are just in awe of their older cousins. It's so cute.

@holli0801 glad you had fun at the zoo! Those days are so nice to recently everything.
@MissusTexas those beds sound cool! GL
with the move.
@suchaglencoco gold star for YH! That’s awesome.
My mil (not married to SO but that's what I'll refer her to as) says 3 is her favorite age!

We are at the tail end of sleep training my daughter for MOTN wakings. It hasn't been so bad and we've gotten a few solid 11 hour nights from her. Hoping this keeps up!

We had such a nice vacation.
@fraufarbissina had a good one - i should definitely focus on driving more water
@doraleigh35 i also want to work on organizing the house. I would love to have a thread where we set goals and follow up. Not sure it would help anyone else though.
@ivyvines6 i used to try to follow fly lady (before you could "follow"). She has all this stuff for SAHMs for staying neat and organized. (I was living alone so it didn't all apply to me.)
@glitzandglitter I'm jealous you get an extra week off!
i think 3 and 4 are harder than 2. 6 seems to get a little easier.
