Omg. I did not mean to Vaguebook- that’s annoying. I typed a novel and it didn’t post. Ugh.
Long story short- I can’t stand when people ask for gift ideas/suggestions and then ignore them. When someone asks for ideas for my daughters, I then don’t buy them that. So when I share something that they really really want, and they don’t buy it, I get annoyed. And pissed- I would have bought them those things!

Yessssss. My mil is the queen of this, asks for ideas and I give her a bunch ranging from general ‘some sort of __’ to links. And she just goes with totally different stuff. I mean... why ask at all?
luckily she didn’t ask till my shopping was done so the ideas I gave her were things I ran out of space for.
@kcdo1010 Omg my mom did this. I asked her today if she had the gifts she said she wanted to buy my son and... Nope. "I got him something else." Wtf!!
I put my foot down this Christmas as we literally still have gifts in boxes from LAST Christmas. My family and the in laws spoil my son so badly. It's embarrassing. So when people asked what to get him I gave them specifics. I don't think you sound ungrateful. People should listen to and respect parents.
I don’t know if it is because I am pregnant but that entire TMI post made me gag and I feel like I need to take a shower. The booger and having to scrap it off of her nightstand, I just can’t. I will probably avoid a TMI, post until I can stomach gross discussions.

What is this TMI post you speak of?

My husbands family is first gen German and apparently they love gift giving. They all email each other exactly what they want. Then it takes- no joke- more than 2 hours to open all the gifts as everyone opens one at a time then oohs and ahhs at what they got (exacrly what they asked for...) we spend upwards of $1000 a year on his family’s x-mas gifts. I am a minimalist and would be happy with just their company cause they are some of the coolest, nicest people I know. I cannot ever think of $300 worth of stuff I need- ever. So I normally end up with random stuff that I donate to goodwill.
my side of the family: we grew up poor and as adults we give each other “the gift of not getting anything” but we do spend time with each other. Which, honestly, with our busy lifestyles, I value more than trinkets or a gift I could have bought myself.
@lakesideknitter it is a bit disguisting. But my husband and his family defend it by saying they don’t do birthday gifts (which is true). But- heck! I only spent $40 on my own kid’s x-mas gifts and even less for her birthday. We spend about $50- 100 a family member and there are like 15 people we get gifts for. It adds up quick.
thank goodness my family doesn’t expect gifts.
And I should say I love my inlaws and they are super sweet. It is apparently German culture to go a little crazy with the gift giving on Christmas.
We are driving up right now for the party- as German’s celebrate with gifts on xmas eve.
