One highlight: I finally grew the balls to tell my boss that I am leaving at the beginning of February and not the end. My job is about 99% standing, and I’m not going to be able to do it much longer!
Lowlight: my daughter is the lead, Clara, in her school play of the Nutcracker tonight. The bad part is: DH just picked her up from school with possible strep...
Triumph: MH and I put together the nursery furniture and no one had a melt down Fail: I did not pass a belt test in my martial arts class. I will be able to retake it, but it is the first one I have not passed. Tomorrow I will watch everyone else graduate and I won't. The real fail is that I am not being a great sport about it, I've been sulky and upset.
@beach_mama yay for a cleaner!!! Such a great idea.
High: We are almost finished remodeling the baby's nook in our bedroom. I will feel so much more ready when I know he has a place to sleep in our home.
Low: Just found out my dad has to work Christmas day which is when we normally get together with that part of my family. For reasons I don't want to explain he doesn't know I am pregnant yet. The plan was to tell him that day.
High: Getting our travel schedule for the first two months of next year sorted and the 5 round trips scheduled. That felt so good to lock in the dates.
Low: Arguing with insurance about all the damage we sustained in the creek fire at my stables. I lost about $10K in equipment and the way things are going, I will be shocked if insurance covers a small fraction of that. I'm not really sure why we have insurance if they are going to be this difficult to resolve claims with. Touring the burned out site today was such a bummer and the claims adjuster was so unsympathetic.
@sparklingdiamond I will be thinking about you on your trip to Florida next week. So glad you have another day off! @beach_mama So exciting about having a cleaner! I have a friend who owns a cleaning business and will come 1-2 times a year to spruce up our house.. It's amazing and I'm sure it'll be so helpful when your LO arrives. @mikkimikey Oh goodness.. your poor daughter. I hope she doesn't have strep!
Highlight: My DH and I are staying overnight at a hotel (possibly a mini babymoon, as I don't love traveling) on Friday, and I'm getting a pedicure while there. I need it badly! We are planning to just lounge around and order take-out.. I cannot wait! Low: I went to the dentist today, and I'll need at least one cavity filled after baby arrives. It's not the end of the world by any means but just a nuisance.
@stalkinghorse that sounds like a major downer - i’m sorry you’re having to deal with that. My parents’ house flooded in Hurricane Harvey and even though they had flood insurance, they are getting a small fraction of what they need to actually repair the damage. Ridiculous.
High: DD1 is out of school already so it’s one fewer drop off and pickup I have to do this week, plus I get time with my big girl! I’m loving it.
Low: I am hosting DD2’s holiday party at preschool tomorrow. She has been quite a handful lately, and managing a class full of 3 year olds - and trying to get them to sit and make ornaments - kind of makes me want to cry.

First name a great thing that happened this week. It's been a pretty awful week, but I think the best part was that I splurged and had someone come clean my house today while I was at work. So I got to come home to a neat and clean home.
then name setting not-so great that has happened. Our town is threatening to layoff 43 teachers mid year due to budget issues. It's been an enormously emotional and stressful week. Our union is still fighting it, but no one really knows what will happen. My son might lose his teacher and it breaks my heart. I THINK my job is safe, but I don't know for sure.
@fancybelmont that just sounds unreal! How big is your district that you can absorb 43 teachers?!? So stressful!
As for me: lowlight- my in laws are supposed to be watching my kids next week and their furnace just died! (Predicted high of 3 on Christmas!)
Highlight- ds (2) has decided to start peeing standing up. Watching him try is seriously making me laugh! He’s like a little drunkard Trying to balance and peeing all over! A bit more cleanup for me but he’s so proud to be “like daddy”!
Highlight - DH has been (without my asking) cleaning/painting my rental. Unoccupied = money lost It’s been stressing me out a bit, but I have been busy with tons of other things or else no energy to work on it.
Lowlight - woke up twice last night choking on bile (despite elevated head and daily omeprazole). Not enough sleep and a shitty morning at work, so I was pretty crabby today.
Highlight: Just 2 days until my family gets onto town and I get time off! I am so excited!
Lowlight: I have to figure out how to clean the house up so I have to host my in-laws for Xmas. If it weren't for my DD1, and my DH, I would pretend to be sick and duck out of it completely
Highlight - I finally finished Christmas shopping today!
Future Lowlight - I still have to wrap everything, including gifts sent to DS by out of state family.
Lowlight - It's not Friday yet. This has been such a long week already. Work has been busy and it's been killing my back and heels.
@riversdoctor, have you seen the little urinals?? We had gotten one for DS when he started standing to pee because you can put it at their level and it has a spinning thing in to aim the pee at, lol. Less messy. Only $8 on Amazon!
@fancybelmont that is such a stressful situation! I hope your district can get it together—we had to close a class due to budgeting my last year teaching and it’s a horrible situation for the students and teachers. Sending positive vibes that it works out.
Highlight: Our new apartment gets so much more light and it’s making a huge difference in my mood! I didn’t realize how cave-y my last apartment was. I’m hoping all the sunlight helps combat the baby blues this time around.
Lowlight: My toddler has woken up from nap in a terrible mood—screaming crying for no discernible reason—twice this week. It’s stressful that’s she’s upset, but I’m also embarrassed and worried what my neighbors think of me.
Highlight: We bought a mini van this week. I won't have to stress about forward facing ds#2 in April. It's silly but for so long we were a family of three and had a smaller car. I was feeling overwhelmed w needing a bigger vechile and how much our lives have changed in the past 2 yrs.
Lowlight: we are driving 10 hours to visit family for Christmas. I have so much to clean and pack before we leave. I'm not looking forward to the road trip cuz ds#2 is a cranky traveler. I bet it will take much longer since I'll need many bathroom breaks.
@mcb2016 your ds2 sounds like my dd2. You have my sympathies regarding travel. Bonus dd2 has hit us w car sickness just to add to the overall fun nature of any ride.
Highlight : I successfully made various truffles for Christmas. Quite pleased with how they turned out.
Lowlight: DH work van has been in and out of the shop 3-4 times this past month with minor tranny repairs(blown hose, thermostat replacement) . Yesterday however they finally determined it needs a new transmission (of course they discovered that after we've put $1500 into it fixing piddly crap) and we'll have to leave my family's Christmas early (already cut short for other reasons) because DH will need my car to work the next day.
DH(27) + Me (27) = 1/14 Baby #1: Aug. 2016 Baby #2: April 1st, 2018
Highlight - yesterday daycare told me DS is doing great at peeing on the potty!
Lowlight - just about everything else. Thinking we're about to lose ANOTHER person at work, I've been sick, and I can't seem to find Christmas spirit this year
@mcb2016 congrats on the van! At least you can road trip in style in your new wagon . We love our van and I was excited for our first road trip just to test it out.
DS: EDD, December 19th, 2014. Born, December 19th, 2014! DD: EDD, July 18th, 2016. Born, July 19th, 2016!
High: DH finally bought a car this week! His 20 year old Corolla was on its last legs and the brakes were going among a million other issues; I wouldn’t even get in it because I don’t think it’s safe. He only drives like 10-20 miles a week but we knew it had to be done ASAP, esp before baby. He got a used Civic in great shape and I am so pumped to not have to worry about a baby being in the back seat anymore. We are also donating his beater car to our local NPR station which gives me good feels.
Low: holiday traveling is taking away the Xmas joy again this year. We go back and forth several times between our families on Xmas eve and Xmas day with a ton of driving and all of the guilt. We have to duck out of one place early just to arrive to the next one late. I’ve already told the parents we aren’t doing the world tour next year with a baby. Cue all of the disappointment from parents. Sigh
Highlight: 5 more hours then I'm off for the holidays for a week!
Lowlight: This entire week. I had some spotting that kind of stressed me out, my LO got super sick with a 103 degree fever and ear infection, I think I have a UTI, I missed work and am behind on my hours (which means working remotely next week), then I got LO's virus and feel like I've been hit by a bus. Oh, and it's snowing today and tomorrow and we get to fly across the country during a super busy travel season.
It will all be worth it once I'm home with my fam for the holidays, but SHEESH, can I catch a break please?!
Highlight - DS and I are home after our road trip to WI. We left a day early because they were going to get a bunch of snow today, and it’s nice to be home with DS and prepare for our first real Christmas at home as a family.
Lowlight - I am super sick and miserable with a bad cold. There’s so much to get done after our trip, and I’m absolutely exhausted. I can barely walk up the steps without getting super winded.
Love this!
High: just finished my grocery shopping which includes Xmas eve brunch for the extended family and dinner and food for all next week and I came in under budget!
Low: mine is pregnancy related but I am now at that “wow I’m gettinf big” point and it’s messing with my mood and my wallet. Everyday something else doesn’t ft and I have more things to replace.. today it’s sports bras and yesterday it was regular bras. Not sure what tomorrow will be....

There are about 500 in our union, but that includes teachers, counselors, support staff, etc.
We really can't absorb 43 teachers, so I'm not sure what they are thinking. They've proposed to cut all librarians and reading consultants. Even some classrooms will be split up. Just hoping its a threat and they don't really do it. It's been awful before the holidays though.

Good call getting out of dodge! We are missing the snowstorm but frigid temps are coming fast!
Re: GTKY: One Highlight, One Lowlight
Yucky Thing: I had to pay three medical bills that totaled almost $600.
Good: My husband is on board w a cleaner (thank you Jesus!)
Bad: Dd2 has had diarrhea since Saturday night.
