First Trimester Check-in

Re: First Trimester Check-in

  • @Halls214, is there something they can do with the early scan that isn't covered by PGS? We did PGS, so we declined the early screening, since it seemed to look for exactly same things.

  • I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one who doesn't plan on making a big social media post! After seeing so many posts while TTC and remembering how hard it was to see them, I just can't stomach doing the same. I used to share so much on social media and now I'm enjoying the privacy. I have a friend after rounds of IVF who did a super cute announcement on fb, but definitely to each her own.

Just had my first official ob-gyn appointment and all went well. After IF, does your medical team have you getting frequent ultrasounds? My sister was concerned that I had another one today, but I trust my doctors. (I imagine there's a thread somewhere on here about that!) The Dr also talked about genetic testing, so I'm thinking of you all going through that.
  • @FuzzyDust you know I’m not totally sure. I thought the same thing and it probably is. Our extra testing was only like $10 covered by insurance so we figured why not... hopefully it’s all the same thing and is fine I’m sure.
We did have more frequent ultrasounds and it was fine. :) yay for first OB appts.
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.
  • @jr102217 I'm the same way; I loathe FB announcement posts and would literally just bawl at sight of them. I'm not active on FB because of it and also because it's just not a great platform... people bragging and it's not real life. I don't think I have special treatment from the OB because I came from an RE. My ultrasounds have been at 12w and 20w with the OB which is so far apart. I guess my next one is at 28w? Seems so long from now.
    My TTC journey:
    Me and DH: 30-35
    Unexplained infertility
    TTC #1 since 2015
    11/2015 - BFP!     12/2015 - MC  :'(
    IVF #1 July 2017 freeze all (20 eggs, 15 mature, 10 fert, 6 blasts, 4 PGS normal)
FET #1 TBD  Surprise BFP 9/2017 while waiting for FET... hoping for the best!

  • Seems like every OB is different and I can't make it 4whole weeks.

saw my OB at 12wks then high risk dr for testing the following week then back to OB about a week and a 1/2 later so I'm lucky I've got to see my nugget!

tomorrow I go bac to high risk dr for my 16wk tests, then bac to OB at 18wks.  One im 41 and want the drs to keep a closer eye on me and because I have an sch I think it's important to keep a watch on....there's not a wrong or right.  I think it's what you're comfortable with and let your OB know.  My OB was originally doing 4wks but I wanted it sooner and he was fine with it.

@fuzzydust As for testing ting I did pgs but nothing is 100% so I'm being treated like anyone else and having the testing done.  It's all nerve wracking regardless.

  • @coco305 I did mine at 11w5d. My OB said anytime between 11 and 13 weeks is fine, but we are out of town next week and she prefers to have it done on the earlier side so that the NT hasn't filled in yet (or something like that)

@fuzzydust all the first trimester screening is covered by my insurance. I actually had a choice between the NIPS (just blood work) or the NT Scan (bloodwork plus ultrasound) and could have done both. My OB wanted me to do the NT scan as she wanted the heart checked out and said that IVF babies can have a slightly higher risk of cardiac issues - everything checked out fine though! That's really the only reason we did any of the early screening. I'm glad we did since it caught a low placental protein which I'll need to be closely monitored for during the third tri. We opted out of the NIPS as the results wouldn't have changed our mind about anything and continuing with the pregnancy.

@jr102217 I had two ultasounds with my RE, one at 9 weeks with my OB, the NT scan and my next ultrasound won't be until 20 weeks. As far as I know, that would be it for ultrasounds, but now I get two extra at 28 and 32 weeks due to my borderline low Papp-A results.
  • Hi there- new to the board!

    1. How far along are you? 6w5d
What is your EDD? August 9
    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?
    Nausea, tired, headaches
    3. When is your next appointment?
Next Wednesday. Just had one yesterday where we heard the heartbeat!!
    4. Anything else you'd like to share? I am still cautiously excited because of my IF history, but hearing the heartbeat was a BIG hurdle for me, so after hearing it yesterday I finally am starting to accept that this is really happening and I’m really excited!

  • Why doesn't anyone tell you that the period between a second beta and a first u/s appt is almost as bad as a TWW?  I'm terrified everyday that something is going wrong and I don't know about it.  I may start testing again to calm my nerves.

Also, for those of you who have graduated from RE treatments, when was your first appt with an OB?  I'm not sure if I should wait a couple of weeks when I'm officially discharged from my RE to make an appt or if I should do it now for whatever week is appropriate.  Thoughts?

  • @laurad75 that wait is even worse than the TWW!!!!

I called my OBs Office fairly early just in case t took awhile to get an appointment and I really had no clue when I needed to be seen by them. I think my last appt with my RE was at 8w5d weeks and I saw my OB for the first time a week later. I was “officially” discharged from my RE at 10 weeks. I think I called my OBs Office fairly soon after the first US at my REs appointment.

Also, my RE warned me that it’s a shock going from their office to an OB, since we are used to frequent appointments. Most OB patients get their initial ultrasound and then one at 20 weeks and that’s it! Which is crazy to think about! I think I’ll hear the heart beat at my next appt at almost 16 weeks but don’t think I’ll get an US.
  • @mtpbadger It's terrible.  I think its because we've lived through and witnessed so much disappointment.  I also started seeing some brown discharge which made me even more anxious.  I called my nurse who says it is likely nothing to be concerned with but they gave me the option to come in for bw tomorrow just to be sure and I'm going to do that.

  • @laurad75 the tww between beta and 6wk us is the worst!! I was a wreck and was physically shaking in the waiting room, I swore something had gone wrong. Thankfully it was ok. What's did was call my ob after my 6wk appt and made an appt for week 9. And yes the shock factor of going from RE to OB is a rough one too. DH jokes that I was more emotional about graduating than I was about hearing the HB at 6weeks.
  • I'm so glad its not just me and I know I'm being dramatic by going in for bw tomorrow but frankly I don't care.

  • My DH jokes (but I think is being slightly serious) that I wouldn’t be happy if I didn’t have something to worry about lol! I’m just so used to nothing going right during this process that it feels weird!
  • Hi @laurad75! I pretty much immediately scheduled an appointment with my ob just to make sure I got one. At the time I called I didn’t even know when I would graduate from my re but the ob wanted to make an 8 week and 10 week. Now that I’ve had the u/s and talked to my re, I can cancel the 8 week one with the ob because I’ll still be seeing the re at that point.

As for the spotting, I’ve had some too but the re gave me a whole bunch of possible reasons and they weren’t concerned at all. Could be from intercourse because of the increased blood flow in that area, irritation from the nightly suppositories, ovulation cysts which are normal with IVF, placenta starting to push into the uterine wall, etc. Glad you get to go in early though! I went in at 5 weeks and saw the gestational sac as it’s supposed to be and it made me feel better to know things were on track. Good luck tomorrow!

  • @mac627 great insight on reasons for spotting!! Ur dr is right on I believe the placenta atttaching was the original culprit for mine at wk 7. @laurad75 it's so nice to see u over here!! We've all been through so much of course ur going to want to triple check everything! I had spotting and week 9 even though it was brown it was more then I wanted to see and ran to the RE that day.  Do what gives u peace good luck!!

  • Hi everyone,
    I'm new here too :)
    1. How far along are you? 4 weeks + 3days
What is your EDD? 27th August (our wedding anniversary)
    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Mainly just nausea, very tired and very thirsty. I've been a bit forgetful/scatter-brained too, although not sure if that's pregnancy or just me lol
    3. When is your next appointment? 8th of January. It'll be the first ultrasound and I'm terrified that there won;t be a heartbeat (again).
    4. Anything else you'd like to share? Just that I'm so scared of the ultrasound, but also so impatient to get there so I have an answer either way. Also an answer as to whether one or both eggs fertilised this cycle.

  • I've been posting in the july 2018 board, but figured I would chime in here as well since there are so many familiar faces

    1. How far along are you? 9 weeks 4 days
What is your EDD? July 22 2018.
    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Just a general crappy feeling, shortness of breath
    3. When is your next appointment?  Next Wednesday
    4. Anything else you'd like to share? I have been fighting with a large SCH since about 6 weeks. I was on bedrest for almost 3 weeks, but I haven't had any bleeding in almost 2 weeks, so I am hoping the worst of it is behind me.
QOTW: What shows have you been watching? Vikings
  • @tops-2 welcome and congrats!! Doing ivf always makes this part extra scary! Have you had high betas? That can sometimes be an indication of how many stuck.

@Crystal321 I can't tell u how excited I am that this transfer worked and your here with us yay!!! So sorry u have an sch, how big is it.  It's so frustrating having that extra added bonus!  I don't want to jinx it but I'm 16wks and this is the first week I think the spotting for me has stopped for a day.  Just another thing that makes me extra nervous!!  Keep taking it easy I bled day before thanksgiving and ran to the dr as I was panicked!!! And he told me to take it easy, which because of my nausea I was already taking it easy not being able to do anything.  Which made me more nervous about everything too!!!

  • @hopefulmom thanks! It got pretty large. At week 8 it was actually larger than the gestational sac and the doctor was worried that if I passed the clot that it may be forceful enough to cause a MC, but thankfully at week 9 it was starting to settle down and appears to be more "organized". It is still the same size, but more compacted and in good position.  I was having pretty crazy bleeding though for about two weeks. I am just so glad that even with all this mess the baby was just fine
  • @Crystal321 ugh that is so scary!!! Glad things calmed down and a pray it continues on just like that!!

My betas have been significantly higher than last time - 12dpo was 57 and 14dpo was 168. And my progesterone level was well over 100, so the dr and nurses all seem very positive. I’m hoping that’s a good sign :)

@Hopeful_mom sure am in the 2nd now which is exciting! I have a feeling I might too for now because the appts are so far in between. I agree and hate taking Tylenol but even a nap didn’t help today so meds it was.

  • @Holls214 I considered getting a Doppler but it will only freak me out if I can’t find the HB due to user error. This time around it’s not so bad bc I saw the OB at 10 weeks and have my Nuchal at 12 and I go back to the OB at 14 weeks. Although I’m sure it will be harder waiting for 4 weeks between appointments. Congrats on second trimester. Hope you’re starting to feel a little better.
  • Yes I get headaches very easily too! I have to drink a cup of coffee each morning to prevent it and I hate doing that, but I guess it's better than a Tylenol every day?

I have no idea how I managed this far without a doppler. I didn't get one because my husband told me I would obsess over it too. Now that I'm kind of far along enough I feel like I don't need to get one now...
    My TTC journey:
    Me and DH: 30-35

    IVF #1 July 2017 freeze all (20 eggs, 15 mature, 10 fert, 6 blasts, 4 PGS normal)
FET #1 TBD  Surprise BFP 9/2017 while waiting for FET... hoping for the best!

  • So we got a Doppler and it was pretty neat. Recorded a video with no picture because babes is still so low that no one wants to see that haha. We’re going to share with family tomorrow so they can hear the babes too. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.

  • I'm going to go ahead and join!

    1. I'm 4w5d today. I did a fresh 3 day Transfer of 3 top quality embryos. I had decreased receptivity according to the Yale EFT test and have blood clotting and  immune issues. This was a Hail Mary attempt to use the last bit of our insurance coverage.

    2. EDD is 28 August 2018. 3 days after our 12 year wedding anniversary. I'll be 35.

    3. Mostly stuff from the PIO shots. Super sore boobs, gaggy in the morning taking my pills, and random twinges and pains in the uterus. Normal stuff.

    4. Next appointment is next Friday 29 December with the MFM to get an ultrasound at 5W3D to look for the gestational sac (I've had a ruptured ectopic) and get started with her.  I'm on bloodthinners and Prednisone and Neupogen so I'm higher risk.

    5. I'm so nervous. I've had 5 early losses. My betas looked great. 10dp3dt was 199. 12dp3dt was 467. And 3rd beta went up 68% to 785 at 14dp3dt. We aren't sure how many we have because we transferred 3 and my beta couldn't indicate  vanishing multiple so Friday will be a complete surprise. 1 is safest and I'd be so grateful but I've become attached to the idea of 2. I'm just praying my ute isn't empty!
  • Hi everyone! It’s nice to see so many familiar faces from the IF boards.

    1. How far along are you? 4 weeks and about 3 days
What is your EDD? August 30
    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Not much so far, thankfully, just a little bit of pulling and full feeling in my pelvis and once in awhile I have a moment of dizziness. Does it sound horrible to hope I start getting more symptoms soon? :)
    3. When is your next appointment? December 27 at my RE’s office for blood work. Even though this pregnancy was a natural one between FET cycles, they’re happy to monitor my hormone levels and do ultrasounds until 8-10 weeks which I’m so happy about because I am obsessed with knowing every tiny detail of what’s happening.
    4. Anything else you'd like to share? Random fact: this pregnancy is the result of exactly one BD during what I assumed was a fertile window based solely on my CM. DH was so shocked that it worked that he had me take 3 HPTs in 3 days. I also just turned 38 so I am terrified of the many possibilities for bad outcomes. Crossing fingers and toes all day every day :)
  • @sarcasticowl grats! And kudos to you guys for the great timing
  • @sarcasticowl omg!!!!!!!!! Congrats!! So happy for you!

  • Thank you, @hopefulmom! It SO does not feel real. We are cautiously optimistic and really hoping everything is as it should be tomorrow :)
  • @sarcasticowl so excited to see you here!! Wow, perfect timing - you guys must be over the moon. What a lovely Christmas present!! It’s nice that your RE is still monitoring you - at this point we need as much reassurance as possible. I have everything crossed for you for a good beta and H&H 9 months!!
  • 1. How far along are you? 4 weeks + 3days
What is your EDD? my app is saying 9/1/18 but based on the other ladies it could be earlier and I’m actually hoping for 8/31 which is my dad’s bday
    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Nothing too crazy but tired, thirsty, hungry, sore breasts and I feel like I perpetually did an intense core workout yesterday
    3. When is your next appointment? Not sure since my RE is on vaca this week. I took a hpt on 12/22 and had a faint line so went in for a beta which was 34, repeat beta at a lab today was 334- woo hooo!!!!.
    4. Anything else you'd like to share? DH & I have been ttc for 4.5 yrs with zero luck- no pregnancies at all. We were scheduled to start IVF meds 1/12 and then this!! @sarcasticowl I just turned 39....so crazy how similar our stories are :) I’m still in shock and almost hesitant to start posting here.
    TTC since May 2013
    Mild PCOS, Compound Heterozygous MTHFR
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
  • @lablover78 This is crazy coincidental. Awesome second beta for you! We’re hoping for a strong number tomorrow and like every self-respecting anxious lunatic, my first concern is that this baby is in my uterus and not in a tube. Which will quickly be overtaken by overzealous monitoring of my underwear. Good times LOL  :D
  • Haha @sarcasticowl you must be in my brain. Good luck today!!!!!
