Ugh. My mom was asking about my appointment tomorrow (U/S 11:30 OB 3:30). We are supposed to get some snow here starting tomorrow morning but not much, like 1-2 inches. When I told her the times for the appointments she was all, oh no! You should call and see if you can come in earlier before it gets too bad out! I’m sure lots of people will cancel because of the weather! Like serious wtf lady, she has lived in this climate her entire life and still gets bent out of shape every time it might even possibly snow. We live in ND, it’s common. I have a 4WD vehicle. I don’t get why this is always such a thing for her.
@dinodna3 girl, DH doesn’t even know what’s in the boxes signed with both our names for gifts lol. Sometimes after the person opens it he’ll look at me and be like, nice. Sigh.
I do have to give him credit, though. When he is responsible for gifts by himself he’s very thoughtful and generous. That’s just a very rare occurrence these days lol.
Hadn’t done the math in a while but we are at 32%. The rest goes to utilities, car notes, daycare, some savings and...yeah. I don’t know. Lol we need to fix that!!

@lisa2589 omg I just had this talk last night with my dad! He's staying with us in WI (from FL) for a month . Anyways, we were discussing whether to go to the new star wars either Wednesday or Thursday and he's all... Oh better be Wednesday, the storms coming Thursday! I'm like aren't we only getting like 1-3 inches, and he said yeah? Ummm sorry dad you've been south way too long!! That's business as usual. In fact I told him I don't even look at the weather unless I hear more than 6 inches lol!
Plus one on mom's freaking out about a few inches of snow... I'm always like, it will be fine! If there's ice before then snow I get a little more worried but I've lived in the Midwest my whole life... I remember how to drive in snow.
Bonus of working in the OB office. Yesterday a coworker found 2 doppler shoved in the back of a drawer. She wanted to test them out so I naturally got volunteered so I got to hear the squish's heart yesterday. The dopplers worked but didn't count *shrug*
Maybe I should wait to post this until Fridays confessional.
My name is Amy and I am terrified of the snow.
I am like the older folks you speak of regarding planning stuff around it and avoiding going anywhere when i can help it. Rain doesn't phase me but I am all nervous nelly about the dang snow. Born and raised in Chicago; still here, so not sure why I'm still like this after 31 years. I'm sure it has a lot to do with my anxious personality as I'm most afraid of the others on the road and possible accidents.
I drive a ford fusion and chose it a few years ago mostly bc I thought it was cute. The wheel well space from tire to car is small so the car is not a real champ in the snow. With baby coming, I will definitely have something different, higher off the ground, SUV type by next winter.
Until then, I shall continue worrying like grandma and grandpa. Letsbehonest I'll probably still be the same even with a different car, always fearing the worst.
Anyone else having a change of car plans any time soon?
@amys614 we have to get a new vehicle before this LO arrives. I currently drive a Nissan Frontier and there is no possible way we can fit three car seats in the back.
@amys614 I live in Minneapolis so no stranger to snow but I definitely get more cautious in it. Mainly because my tires on my little hatchback aren't great but I too am getting a new car soon so I don't want to put more into it. MH also has a truck so we don't let the snow phase us because that thing is a beast and actually pretty fun to drive in the snow.
Some people though are just literal idiots in the snow when driving around here. Last week we got a little dusting, not enough to slow down traffic, but this guy was sitting in the middle lane on the highway going at least 15 under the speed limit during the morning rush hour. People driving too slow cause just as many accidents as people going too fast.
They were saying earlier this week that we were supposed to get 8+" but this morning they said it will only be 1-2".

@amys614 Yes, we are considering a new (to us) set of wheels. We have a 10 year old Honda Fit that I just love. It's stick and gets great mileage and aside from people crashing into ME, I've never had any issues with it. We also have a PriusC which is my DH's daily driver. Would like to stay compact and fuel efficient. Maybe electric! I know no one will give us a dime for the Honda in regards to trade in value though so I guess we'll have to figure out what to do with that.
Ive been so busy lately and terrible at participating, but whoever mentioned the August board drama thanks for a good morning read!! I’m reading and paying attention to you all I’m just bad at having the attention span to respond
@amys614 for us its not really a change, we lost one car in hurricane Harvey, so we are down to one car and have to get another. sadly the car we lost was paid for so the money we got from the insurance company can't really replace it. Plus with a baby otw we def want something bigger than will last for a growing family. I'd like a Q7 or G350. DH likes range rovers, old hummers or a truck. Either way we aren't willing to get another car payment, so until we find something we can afford to buy out right we'll be working with one car (my husband also has a work van).
@amys614 I hate driving in general and really hate snow. I'm really hoping our next duty station is in Colorado though so I'll have to get used to it if we end up there. We're looking at buying a new car. Debating between Honda Pilot, Mazda cx9, or a van. We really want 3rd row seats, since this is #3.
Okay, in all fairness.....i drive very little anymore. Working from home I pretty much stay local if at all. We bought a new Jeep Grand Cherokee last May 2016 with 14 miles on it and just now cracked 10k! In fact, I'd say over half the miles put on were from my "letting" DH take the Jeep lol So, when I talk s*** about it's just a little snow I'd probably be a little nervous. Though, much of my learning/early years of driving were in Wisconsin snow covered winters in a rear wheel drive BMW so... I did garner a great deal of understanding driving in snow etiquette and safety.
@dinodna3 wow, 3 car seats! Are you thinking something with a 3rd row?
@krashke Agreed! It's the idiot drivers that scare me the most. Seems like everyone either acts invincible and drives like crazies or way too cautious also leading to accidents. 8 inches would cause a hibernation day for me. The only thing that saves me is our taxes are so high here and a good part of it goes to snow clearing. It's not uncommon for us to get 10 inches and the roads be clear by morning. On the flip side, also means a lot of summer construction due to plow and salt damage.
@ramblebee I've always thought being able to drive stick was so cool. I haven't a clue how.
@ffw0617 so sorry to hear about losing a car in the hurricane. Super smart on avoiding the car payment. I'm really bad about that and can't remember ever not having one.
@May14th2011 My friend has a Honda Pilot and loves it. She has one in an infant seat, one in a front facing and one in a booster. Colorado would be so neat. It's definitely on my list of places I'd like to visit, but live? Between the mountains and snow, I may never drive again haha
@stephcat421 I have my eye on a Jeep. I've been looking at the Cherokee and Compass. Do you like it?
We’re in Kansas and barely get any snow but when we do DH drives. We are on our third baby and while it’s not glamorous, we have a Dodge Grand Caravan. I. Love. It. Automatic sliding doors are priceless and I love the storage space we have, especially when we put the seats in the floor. we traded our Jeep for it (which almost lead me to tears) but I know it was the best decision.
Way off topic...but does anyone use Shutterfly? Has anyone noticed that the option to upload your pics directly from Google photos is gone?!?! I'm freaking out...this is a big problem for me. I'm hoping it is a glitch...eek
@kmurdock925 okay, so I use Shutterfly to make calendars for my mom for her birthday every year. And I will say I searched and searched for how to upload photos directly from facebook this last time, and I swore it was gone, but then right as I was about to finish I realized I'd missed where it was.... so I would say keep searching. (And also they sent me 3 versions of the wrong calendar this year before they finally got it right so... brace yourself.)
@doxiemoxie212 - ugh! I usually have such good luck with them. I'm so beyond frustrated...I'm skyping with my friend at work and she can see the option on her mac but I don't have it on my dell. I checked the app and the option isn't there either...just directly from my gallery, which is empty, because I got a new phone this weekend. It is slow at work right now and I need to make my books, ha.
Funny you say you couldn't find the FB option though, because that one I have but I don't upload much there so it won't do me any good.
@sunshineandwhiskey - no...not supported on my work computer...I've tried IE and Firefox. I did finally find where you can do it within a specific project but it still doesn't just sync the two...it is messy and not so seamless. I'm about to start looking for a different photo book place that will sync with G. photos.
I've noticed some folks saying that they're nervous to start threads or think someone else is maybe "supposed" to, and I've also noticed that there are a fair number of threads on our suggested list that I don't think have ever been started but that might be helpful for some folks? So I wanted to check in and see if they're not being started because people are nervous about starting them, or if truly no one in our BMB feels like they're necessary (both options are fine, obv). Specifically I've noticed we don't ever seem to have a high-risk check in, or an AMA check-in. I wouldn't fit into either of those groups, but I have no idea if they would be helpful to those who do. If y'all want them, start them! If not, continue on.
Very late to the party but @dinodna3 separate gifts is really weird to me!!! I would get it more if you were just dating/new relationship, but once you’re an established family...nope!! Joint gifts all the way.
@sunshineandwhiskey - thanks. I'll give it another try when I get home and see if I can save my sanity. It is so strange because I found a toggle on the app that connects the two accounts...but there still isn't an option to upload from google photos, just my phone gallery. Ugh.
@amys614 love, love, love my Grand Cherokee. I did think about letting DH take it over because he quite possibly could love it more and I'd get the new compass because it's like a mini grand Cherokee! Well, I heard many reviews that there were issues with the transmission on them so I'll wait a few years until the bugs are worked out! The only thing I wish is there was third row seating but overall just a solid ride!
@amys614 that's what we'll have when baby comes, one booster, one front facing and one infant. I think we're skipping the carrier this time though and just using one of our convertible seats. I love winter and haven't ever had it- Texas to New Mexico to California, so no real winter. I want hot chocolate while I watch snow fall.
@doxiemoxie212 IDK, I feel comfortable starting the scheduled threads.
@dinodna3@amys614@May14th2011 team minivan in my heart but I didn't fight DH hard enough and ended up with a Honda Pilot. It's fine but I think a minivan would make more sense for us/ be more convenient for loading kids. The 4WD is a plus of course but the whole access to the 3rd row is a pain. Plus the 3rd row is cramped and not good for adult seating. We will have 3 car seats in the middle row and keep the 3rd row down.
@fantasticmrsfox We traded our Wrangler for the Pilot last summer. DH is still in mourning.
DS doesn't go to bed as soon as he hits the pillow. So every night before I go to bed I go in, get his stuffed animals out from under him... fix his blankets and pillows.. tuck him in, give a kiss and say good night. Most times he doesn't wake up. Here and there I'll get a whispered love you back or even just alittle grin... the closed eyes and grin alone melts my heart.
last night, he sat up. I asked what he was doin and to lay back down. He whispered something I couldn't understand. Then leaned over, pulled my shirt up, rubbed my belly and said night to little baby.
uuuughhhhh!!! So many heart eyes.

@llamamama14 DH is tall and can’t drive our pilot comfortably with a rear facing car seat right behind him. DS is behind the passenger side, and we will likely put baby #2 next to him in the middle. It has us wondering if we might need to explore an upgrade to a minivan and see if they would have more car seat space...which is nuts considering the Pilot is an 8 seater. According to the internet, this is a known design flaw for the Pilot, but still kind of sad because we love ours so much.
Guys I need to whine for a second. I think I'm joining the sick train. My throat is tight, ears feel weird. I was sick last Christmas, no fair! I've started elderberry, gargling peroxide, taking honey and lime juice. Wahhhhh. I'm hoping the elderberry will stop it.
Everyone around me is sick. The bf, his daughter, nearly everyone I work with. I've been bathing in hand sanitizer but no dice, apparently. Boooooo. I don't feel awful yet but the anticipation of what's to come has me bummed.
Also, work sucks. Full of drama. Our best employee walked out yesterday. The moon and stars over there have been misaligned for weeks. My house isn't cleaned, I'm not done shopping, haven't started wrapping. Thankfully I took Friday off.
Ok end pity party. If I'm a little MIA around here for next couple days, I hope everyone has wonderful holiday celebrations!
@amys614 I hope you feel better! I took elderberry the other week, and my system did not like it. TMI: I was awoken outta a dead sleep to race to the bathroom with diarrhea. Do you, or anybody, know if that is normal when you first take elderberry?
