Re: Fit Friday? 12/15

  • I am!  I ride the spin bike here for 10-20 minutes a few days a week and then follow it with usually a full body circuit of weights/resistance bands.  I'm doing enough to feel some soreness in my muscles without feleling like i'm overdoing anything.

I'm struggling pretty hard with weight gain etc.  I'm tracking my food in MFP and following macros set by my coach but coming off of competing in bodybuilding and then trying to get my metabolism back has been a really big mind EFF.  Its about 99% certain i'll never compete again, I've never fluctuated as an adult as bad as I have the past year.  I'm eating healthy and trying to get my metabolism back and know the process will be worth it but going through it is just hard sometimes.

  • Hey there! Still doing Krav Maga and yoga, I stopped running because it made me feel sick and I was nervous to start again. Yoga has started to get tricky, lots of modifications and I might start going to a prenatal yoga class in a couple weeks. Sparring is also getting more tricky, people don't really want to partner with me and I get that. I got a bloody nose last night and had to stop for a minute. Otherwise, doing ok. @beach_mama what's your activity like and has the bump effected it for you?

  • @stalkinghorse so awesome of you for remaining so active! I would love to mix up my activity vut really am stuck to the home gym for now.  I commute 2-3 hours a day during the week and trying to balance work and spending the couple hours a night I have with DD has been hard.  I'm never in the mood to do anything after I put her down which is probably not helping.

  • @ekendall09 how do you do with streaming workouts? I really like the LEKFit streaming, I think it's $15 a month. My husband does Daily Burn which I think is $20 but it obviously has a lot more variety. The Daily Burn has an app that goes right into Apple TV which is neat and my favorite thing is the workouts have a countdown clock. That shouldn't be as motivating as it is! They also have shorter workouts which i think is nice when you just want to move around for 20 minutes for sanity.
  • @stalknighorse I did alot of beachbody for a good while so I'm definitely good with streaming, I just got burnt out on their programs.  Maybe i'll see if LEKFit has a trial I could sample!

  • @ekendall09 they do a 7 day free trial. It can be very dancer-ey, but it is definitely challenging. Some of her classes, she has modifications for pregnant women, which is neat. She has some shorter snippets and every week, she usually adds a class or two that is taken from what she does in the studio. I like the variety but I also like that if there's a workout I love, it's archived, unlike Tracy Anderson. When you're traveling, it's nice to know you can do a workout you know you like.
  • @stalkinghorse wow you are so active! Yes, people are judgey, so I try to be vague. To my family - I'll usually just say, my doctor okayed it and I don't allow body strikes. It usually shuts it down. Even people at class ask when I am going to stop, and I usually respond, what you don't like me anymore? People get super judgey about everything once you have kids, though so I don't take it personally.

Thanks for the tips on the Beachbody and LEKfit, too - I was going to join the YMCA and do some at home stuff after April.

I really needed this thread to get me motivated again. My first pregnancy in 2016 I worked out the entire time. I have so falling off the wagon this time around. I've just felt so sick and tired that it's fallen far from my priorities. I was working out everyday the first two months.

I am going to commit to at the very least doing some prenatal yoga a few times a week to start with. I love outside workouts but it's been much too cold for that.

  • With the exception of this week, because I traveled to WI to visit family, I’m pretty much been working out everyday. Mostly running and strength training. I have a 10k on NYE and then I’ll probably start winding down on the running, and focus mainly on strength training, mostly because I’m hating running in the dark pregnant. Really the only modifiers I’m using are different core exercises that don’t have me flat on my back.

Eating, however, has been rough. I am feeling defeated by weight gain. I know I have no metabolism left from weight loss, but my body cannot handle the jump in calories at all, despite the working out.
  • I am so glad you posted about this, I needed some motivation! I have been keeping up with CrossFit style workouts (extremely modified) 3-4 times a week, but with the drop in temp lately, all I've wanted to do is snuggle up with a blanket! Definitely getting a workout in today. I have also been thinking of starting prenatal yoga. Does anyone have anything online they recommend?
  • @dan0081 im planning on starting with YouTube yoga for now. I'd like to add a weekend class when things settle down after the new year.

  • God i totally posted and ran which was NOT my intention. Work was busy yesterday.

You all are doing so good!!! I've been trying to workout 4x a week and it's been way tougher than i thought it would be. Sure i can get the time in but my body is just not mixing well w workouts and being pregnant. I've had to tone it way down and I'm also feeling very defeated w my weight gain. I need to eat better end of story.

So what i have been doing - a beachbody 2nd tri workout which involves weights 2x a week. The other 2 i walk on my treadmill or use my stationary bike. Even doing this causes serious aches/pains/stiffness. So I'm doing my best and trying to let the rest go.

  • Wow so much going on physical wise !

I've been doing the elliptical 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes as a very VERY basic day.

I'm going to yoga 2-3 times to week and keeping up with a level 1-2 class with some mods. The belly isn't in the way yet so it's been easy to keep on keeping on.

I was also indoor rock climbing at my gym almost daily prepregnancy but definitely had to tone that down. Definitely struggling with the muscle loss after stopping that... I've never had upper body strength until I began climbing about a year ago. I've been bouldering SUPER easy routes which is nonstimulating so need to have the guts to go the top roping route with a modified harness (which is safe but definitely makes me nervous!).

@stalkinghorse I feel you on the weight gain. I didn't gain anything until these last four weeks and it came on quick. Trying to eat healthier and maintain a healthy weight gain. Always been someone who struggled with putting weight so it's been a unique worry.

Yay! I was hoping someone would start this thread!

I’ve been working out 4-5 days a week, and try to do some stretching or yoga on the off days if I feel like it. First tri I had to cut back to probably 3-4 days bc of exhaustion. I try to switch it up (I have Class pass) but I usually do some barre, boxing, and weight lifting classes. At home, I do some YouTube workout videos and definitely can recommend Lauren Hefez (she has pre/postnatal friendly workouts) and Sarah Beth yoga for prenatal yoga. I also follow some people in Instagram like goodfortheswole and she is a certified prenatal trainer so I bought her guide for safe at home workouts (like avoiding too much strain on stomach etc). Way to go ladies!

I feel everyone on the eating... I’m starting to feel very hungry and full at the same time and just trying to make the best decision one meal/snack at a time but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I had two mint Milano cookies after dinner... and they were delicious.
  • I have been pretty good except for a week where I had a bad cold. I have been doing 4-5 days a week of cardio either in the form of dance workout videos or running outside with the jogging stroller. I ran with my 1st pregnancy up until 32 weeks and walked the last 7, so hoping to at least do the same.
Honestly, the weight gain has been better this time than my 1st pregnancy and is definitely more steady.I think around this time with dd I gained 8-10 lbs in a month. However, I started out 10 lbs heavier this time so that may be playing a role.
@okayrunner good luck on your 10k. I have never been brave enough to race while I was pregnant.
