How are things, ladies?

Re: High Risk - Dec

  • Just became an official member of this group yesterday and still adjusting to the idea of all of the extra monitoring appts and time off from work it will require.  Oh, and the "risk" part. Still not processing that part too well.
  • Hello Ladies,
I'm overwhelmed with all the appointments, feeling extra thankful I'm not on the clock/schedule and can make my own schedule for now. I scheduled my c section for 39 weeks, I'm nervous about it, but doctor recommended it over being induced because she doesn't want me going past 39 weeks.
     How's everyone else doing?

  • @babybro218 welcome to the club...probably not one any of us wish to be in but feel free to use us as a sounding board.

@alemarie1 the appointments are out of control. I’m thankful that winter break is soon and that I get out of work early on Wednesday because otherwise I’d have no time left to take when she arrives.

My csection is scheduled for 38 weeks. They refuse to induce which blows but it is what it is and I’m over the thought of having some beautiful natural birth since I’m also totally over being pregnant.
  • Ugh I’m also over being pregnant. I’m on weekly appointments and today they were behind so I took a nap on the hospital bed in the room. The nurses brought me warm blankets. I love my doctors office and although I hate driving there every week, at least I’ve gotten to really know the staff so they do the extras for me. Oh and on top of all my other problems they said I’m starting to show signs for preeclampsia so another thing we need to watch for and they are taking salt out of my diet. Salty things is all I crave. God dammit.

On a side note some lady was screaming at the receptionist about waiting 20 mins to get a tDap shot and the receptionist said that there was an emergency and she said she didn’t care.

Oh ok bitch so if it was your baby that was in distress and all the staff was rushing you to L&D would you care then? I can’t stand women that get upset about back ups at their prenatal appointments. Sometimes appointments go from routine to an emergency real quick.
  • I see the perinatologist in two weeks to monitor the uterine artery via ultrasound and check his growth. My BP has been in ideal range and stable. I monitor it at home. Still on labetalol and low-dose aspirin. My OB said she'd talk about NSTs and BPPs around 34+ weeks. Then at around 36 weeks I'll need to do more blood work to hopefully rule out bleeding disorders since I had a pretty bad hemorrhage without any significant risk factors with my youngest. My CNM said it was unusual because, to her, it looked like I didn't have sticky platelets. So this is definitely something I'll be pushing for in the coming weeks, especially since I'm on aspirin and it's a known blood thinner. My main concern right now is keeping my anxiety at bay (since it could be the main cause of my BP spikes) and continuing to monitor my BP at home and keep an eye out for any pre-e symptoms. The closer I get to term I'll be more cautious about the birth because I have extremely fast births and skip most of the labor process. I really need to be in a controlled environment with my history of PPH.

Either way, I'll be induced around the 9/10th at 39 weeks if he doesn't come before then.

  • I guess I'm in this group now as well :) I start twice weekly NSTs next week, while being annoying should hopefully not interrupt my schedule too much since I was able to get appointment as 8am every time.

While I am not concerned about the NSTs, I always have in the back of my mind that I was induced with my first because of a failed NST. . .So I am going to make sure I eat right before each appointment to make sure this kid is moving!
  • @hudson202 my last wasn’t emergency csection bc of failed NST followed by failed biophysical profile. I’m trying to not be freaked out about them this time but it’s so hard not to!  Mine begin on Wednesday.
  • My OB has been pretty laid back to this point but my BP is starting to rise. I typically have a very low BP. I had late term hypertension with both boys and was monitored closely for pre-e. I have my CS scheduled for 39 weeks and I have to schedule a biophysical after Christmas.  I was also told that I’m severely anemic and were trying to get my thyroid back into range so that’s fun.  I’ve been lucky tho and haven’t had too many extra appointment so I can’t complain.
  • After being diagnosed with  GD and being afraid the baby will be too big, and then finding out (because the Dr "forgot to mention it" at 20 weeks) that I have marginal cord insertion and being afraid the baby is too small, my growth scan on the 18th can't come soon enough.  It's going to be a long-ass week and a half, my friends.
  • So for all you ladies going into the doc's office, like, a lot already... Is it normal/traditional to bring in a big batch of cookies for the holidays as a thank you? Or is that kinda thing more reserved for when you deliver? I'm trying to plan out my baking this year hehe. Also, the faster I get those cookies out of my house, the better for my GD :-)

At my OB appt today he noticed I have a rash on my belly that I thought was eczema, but he says is a pupp rash. And as I'm leaving he says, oh yeah if it gets worse we may want to deliver at 39 weeks or earlier. I'm like, wait what? Is that a thing? He said everything looks good otherwise and I'll just deliver when I deliver, unless the rash gets worse. Of all the reasons, I hadn't heard that as one for an early delivery.

^^I have heard of pupps being pretty miserable, so hopefully it doesn't get worse!
  • What is a pupps rash?? I’ve had some spots on my belly, but I thought It was irritation from my maternity pants.
  • @clc515 - you’ll know if it gets worse. I got it postpartum with DS2 and I was miserable. I itched everywhere and anything that touched me (including my clothes) made it worse. Oatmeal baths and lotions did nothing. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. I hope for your sake that it stays just like it is and you hardly notice it.
  • @babybro218 I thought it was just stretch marks getting itchy cuz of eczema and cuz my pants may be getting tighter. Basically it started next to my belly button on the new stretch marks. In the last week it's kind of expanded so i have a long red blotch horizontal across the belly button area, and also sneaking up a couple places where I think there were stretch marks. They are slightly raised red patches, sometimes very dry. It doesn't itch THAT much, but again I've had eczema so long I'm used to being itchy everywhere all the time lol.

@karcerplus3 Eek good to know I need to look out for it getting that bad!
  • @clc515 I'm so sorry.  That sounds really uncomfortable.  Mine are just a few bumps, and I'm assuming the dr would have noticed it when they measured me.  I'm going in again on Monday, so I'll see what they say then!  I hope it clears up for you soon!

So I guess I'll start twice weekly NSTs at 32 weeks instead of 34 weeks with the first on Christmas Day in L&D. There was more time to talk with my OB today. I'm glad I'll be able to opt for IFM and a heplock, so I'll have more options to move around and use my birthing ball, though I doubt it'll be a long process due to precip. They'll administer pitocin and have methergine and ringer's lactate solution on hand in case of severe hemorrhage.

  • @babybro218 I hope yours is nothing! Mine started as what I thought were itchy stretch marks. I'd seen my OB maybe 2 other times he didn't say anything, but I think it's because it spread. MFM hasn't said anything about it yet.

Oh, except the nurse at MFM recommended I do NOT use cocoa butter based lotion for it because it has caffeine and can get absorbed directly in. Hadn't heard that one before, either.

Well I just graduated to this thread yesterday. Baby's not growing as she should.she's 2 1/2 weeks behind and 2.5 pounds.  She's a " symmetrically small baby" in the 1 percentile growth. . So now I have to go every week twice a week..regular appointment Wednesday's and with ultrasounds/nsts  every Saturday. If there's a concern...then baby's coming out. Im 31 weeks on friday.
  • I just had my first NST. I hate them. She didn’t do what she was supposed to but the doctor approved it bc at 32 weeks it can be considered normal and she was moving a lot.

    Now I’m free until Monday.
  • I think I am here now, I am on hospital bed rest until the baby is born. This is my third bleed/hospitalization in 2 weeks and now I am just here for good.

@smorzandoj I have them daily and they are the worst, I feel for you. Did you have some juice before? Juice works faster than a snack supposedly.

  • I have to do weekly NST until baby comes. I don't mind them too much because it eases my PGAL mind, but the whole process was over 45 minutes and taking a lot of time off of work. I thought baby's movement slow as they get bigger anyway because there's not enough room for them to move around?

  • @MrsJ2410 oh no! Hang in there!!
  • alemarie1 - The regular NSTs will probably help ease some of my worries as I approach term. PGAL brain is definitely a struggle and the extra monitoring can provide some reassurance. Baby's movements change as they take up more space, but the monitor can pick up slight movements while monitoring the fluctuations of their heart rate at rest and during more active periods.

  • @MrsJ2410 I’m sorry! Is everything stable for the moment? I know hospital bed rest sucks more than being at home. Find a game app on your phone to pass the time. That’s what I’ve been doing at home. I’m on level 1213 on Fishdom. And I think I’ve watched all the cat videos I can find. And I’m only on partial rest at home! Praying baby stays put!
  • @MrsJ2410 with hospital bedrest are you hooked to IVs or are you just in the hospital free of needles?
  • @Chawk17 I am not hooked to anything and I’m not on like strict bed rest I can get up to go to the bathroom and shower and stuff, just need to be here in case more bleeding happens and I get two NSTs a day.

@SunflowerMama428 honestly it’s not that much worse than home bed rest, of course I loved being home but it was harder not to do things and also I was constantly worried and waiting for another bleed to happen. I live in a three floor walk up so I couldn’t go outside anyway and at least here I have some peace of mind that I won’t hemmorage in the middle of the night. But I miss DH and my cats and nesting. And I have been playing Words with Friends!

Edited I was on auto-pilot and posted without much thought to what or where I was typing.

I, too, am doing the weekly NSTs and appoints and on one hand am glad to see the baby so often and on the other, trying to manage an already hectic holiday/work schedule can stress me out. I'm keeping all of you in my thoughts as we continue into the third trimester and hopefully get to a place where it gets safer and safer for these little ones to enter the world if they need to.

  • Well, I go here now. Hello high risk ladies!  My story: I have a history of late PTL and and have been having contractions for the last 48 hours coming either regularly (approx. every 4-5 minutes for 2 hours) or irregularly (every 20-30 mins or so).  Thankfully FFN came back negative which is reassuring for the short term.  Contractions were productive but no changes since yesterday afternoon and got baby some steroid injections.  Will just be monitored super closely from here on out, and not expecting to get to February anymore...

No plans for regular NSTs (which sound unpleasant, per all of you), and still a chance I could get to 37, so trying to focus on the positive and keep things in perspective.

Glad to hear everyone's perspective and know other ladies are going through stressful times as well.  Continuing to hope for the best possible outcomes for everybody here!
  • Hi gals! I’m sorry we all have to be here!

A week ago I was diagnosed with cholestasis. They found it much sooner this time than with my DS1. I start BPPs next week and am scheduled for repeat c-section on Jan 31 at 37 weeks.

@clc515 pupps are miserable!! I had them during my last pregnancy both before and after delivery. On top of cholestasis which causes intense itching, the pupps sent me over the edge.
  • Now I have to google cholestasis bc I’ve never heard of it.

And. Ladies. In the last 24 hours my feet have gone from not swollen at all to holy fuck swollen. Didn’t go down overnight. I have an NST at 3:45 so I’m going to mention it but I really pray this isn’t a bad sign for the beginning of a preeclampsia adventure, again.

My feet are swollen as well. I keep checking for pitting...but if this doesn't go down by Wednesday  ( 27) I'll have to mention it.
  • Lol @smorzandoj it’s an odd one, and I was alarmed when I found out other people I know had the same condition. For whatever reason my liver has started releasing bile salts in the blood stream. Causes no harm to me, but can cause still birth. Big symptom is nonstop itching without rash, especially in the palms of my hands and soles of my feet. Protocol is to give a prescription to help reduce the bile salts, biophysical profile each week starting at 32 weeks, and deliver at 37 weeks.

I hope your swelling goes goes down and that everything checks out ok today!!
  • Hello ladies...My pregnancy is high risk because of my history with the loss of my babies with prior pregnancies, before and after birth. I have been on bed rest since 25 weeks. I have an excessive amount of amniotic fluid, which causes me to be terribly short of breath, and I cannot sit or stand for too long. My entire bottom half hurts and feel as if it is falling off if I stand for 10 minutes. I see a specialist, who I'm now seeing twice a week and my OB/GYN twice per week. I am hoping and praying to get to full-term, in which case I might be induced at 37 weeks.

P.S. It is not at all easy being pregnant after a loss. I miss my daughter very much!!!
  • @Daylianna can you please TW your post.
  • I think I may go here now.  We had a PTL scare on Monday, which resulted in a couple of days in the hospital to monitor contractions, dilation, and the baby.  Thankfully, they were able to get everything to settle down via medication, and nothing has progressed.  I am home on a modified bedrest for two weeks, and then they will be able to determine if I can go back to work (I'm a teacher)and take it really easy, or not.

Wishing all of the positive thoughts for all of you ladies and your LOs. It's helpful to hear your stories and advice.
  • Hope your swelling goes down @smorzandoj ! Let us know how the NST goes.

Is that why the doc asks if I have swelling, because of pre-e? And is it swelling everywhere or just certain places.I googled and it said feet is normal, but I guess if my eyes get puffy?

I was bad w/ the sugar #s yesterday because we had a cookie party at work and, well, I didn't abstain lol. Hopefully doc doesn't hold it against me at my appt tomorrow - getting measurements and hopefully a 3d pic!
  • @clc515  thanks. Yes it is why they ask. Sudden onset and pitting is a concern for pre-e as well as face and hands swelling. This is also why they test your urine for protein at every visit.

Cookie related...I woke up and there was one sugar cookie left. One. I coulda sliced SOs throat.

As for my NST. They didn’t do it at the doctors. I was sent to LD from the doctors office for monitoring. She was good on the monitors at the doctor although I was surprised her heart rate was in the 160s and it usually stays in the 140s. They ran all kinds of tests and kept me there for hours...gave me these dumb compression stockings. Sent me home about 9 last night once my blood pressure lowered below 140 for about an hour. I have +1 protein...last week it was trace...hopefully it stays or goes down because it’s not a good sign of things to come. I’m at fetal assessment tues/wed next week and then the Obgyn Thursday so we will see.
  • It sounds like you have a busy week ahead of you @smorzandoj!  I will be thinking of you and I hope everything goes well!
  • @smorzandoj forgive me, but I don't know what TW means.
