R/R: Got new tires for my car just in time for more snow, so I'm pretty pleased about that. This is also the last week of classes, and my students are giving final presentations today and Friday, so not much work for me to do. Yay!
CS/Q: Nothing to see.
GTKY: What is the farthest you've ever been from home? Europe. I studied abroad in Spain, worked in Scotland, and traveled in Spain, Germany, Ireland, and the UK.
Typical LP Length: been worried about this, but made it to 9 today, hopefully get to at least 10!
Timing: good
Testing: not buying wondfos until I confirm a normal LP. Also have an expired FRER... probably should throw that away. Cramping though so AF is on the way.
R/R: Finally I have a day to catch up on my to do list!
CS/Q:
GTKY: What is the farthest you've ever been from home? I lived in Russia for a while, but the farthest is Thailand.
TTGP December Siggy Challenge: Favourite Holiday Movie Moment
R/R: I’ve been super
emotional lately (pretty typical a week or so before AF arrives). But I haven’t been able to concentrate on my
work (plus my supervisor is out all week so also no motivation). I keep lurking
TB boards and get chocked up reading success stories. Ugh I hate this feeling of doom!
CS/Q: Nope
GTKY: What is the
farthest you've ever been from home? The South Pole. I was lucky enough to be a part of a research
group that has a detector at the South Pole.
It was an amazing experience. I
was there for a month. It took 5 or 6
days to get to the coast of Antarctica.
First flight was from Minnesota to Dallas. Dallas to Sydney. 12 hour layover. Sydney to
Christchurch, New Zealand. Layover for minimum of a day (to pick up cold
weather gear and get training. We ended up getting delayed a few days due to
weather. No complaints here, New Zealand is amazing!). Christchurch to McMurdo,
Antarctica- 8 hour flight in a C130 (we got about 4 hours into the flight and
had to turn around due to weather again). Finally from McMurdo to the South
Pole in another C130.
@darkstar42
I studied abroad in France and absolutely fell in love with Europe. It’s my dream to someday move there permanently. How long did you work in Scotland for? That sounds amazing!
@matryoshkadoll
I’ve been to Thailand too. One of my
best friends is from there. How did you
like it? I had a hard time with the
food. I normally like spicy food but
theirs was just not agreeing with my stomach!

GTKY: So, I've been very far from home a lot in my life. My PSA is that by age 18 I had lived in five countries. I think the farthest I've been from home is when I traveled to Papua New Guinea and Australia.
@darkstar42 Yay new car! What did you get? @matryoshkadollHope you get a few more days of LP! That's cool that you lived in Russia. I've also been to Thailand. @ljmoon6 Sometimes reading success stories cheer me up and other times it makes me sad. I can understand the allure of them. Also, so cool that you went to the South Pole! That's on my bucket list. Photos?
@jsnakehole I fully support skipping that meeting. Sounds boring.
@jaylii Ugh I wish I could be so laissez faire about the TWW days. You're basically my TWW idol right now.
@SkilledSailor I'm usually a crazed person during the TWW but this time I've just not looked at my app so a few days after O. I really don't know how many DPO I am and it's surprisingly good. I was tempted to open my app yesterday but glad I resisted.
@jsnakehole I will shamefully admit to taking a test today too…. It was negative and really
put me in a bad mood. I know it’s way
too early but I just don’t have a good feeling about this month. Israel sounds
amazing. Being at the South Pole was very interesting and hard to
describe. It was like we were on another
planet. We had limited communication
outside of the station because satellites don’t fly over that area very often.
You had to suit up to go outside and they take this very seriously. Besides the research that we did (in astro
particle physics) we also helped out with an artist and writers program (recreating
the photos of the first explorers). It
was all very amazing.
@jaylii I’m
missing 2 continents, South America and Africa.
I really want to check those off my list in the near future. I’m so jealous of your living in 5 different
countries. Was it hard on you growing
up? It’s very hard to travel to Antarctica if you’re not going there for
research. Most stations won’t allow
visitors to stay. I have heard of a cruise around Antarctica, that might be an
option!
@SkilledSailor MH can’t do the everyday thing either.
Usually not even every other day… This month is the most we’ve gotten in
the FW. But I’m still not hopeful.

@LJMoon6 Those pictures and that experience are so cool.
Talk about a once in a lifetime opportunity.
@jsnakehole I would definitely skip that meeting. I feel
like even if complaints are valid, after a while hearing other people complain
just brings me down.
@LJMoon6 Growing up moving internationally every few years did have its challenges, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Living in other countries as an expat is a wonderful way for a child to grow up. I also feel fortunate that I traveled so much with my family. Mostly switching schools and making new friends was hard for me. A lot of the schools I attended were very small and I had like 25 kids in my grade. @melbel0824 In order from birth to 18 - I lived in Brazil, Costa Rica, U.S., Portugal and Thailand.
@melbel0824 It was breathtaking. I would have loved to go hiking there- although since they had a war 20 years ago and some of the bombs are still unaccounted for, its not particularly safe to hike the mountains. The cities were all so small and cute, but so many of the buildings were still riddled with bullet holes from the war- it was so bizarre. I also love getting out away from tourist areas (my idea of hell is a cruise ship), and going to different places (I just got back from Morocco which was amazing!), so it was fun that way.
@matryoshkadoll How was Thailand? Ive always wanted to travel there! @LJMoon6 I also get choked up on success stories! I have never had such issues with my self control as I have since TTGP. At a time I need to be healthy, I am eating so bad! Also, my pup threw up in our bed at 5am this morning. The sound of a dog about to vomit is the one thing that makes me shoot out of bed!
CS/Q: Forgot to temp this morning and it feels pretty freeing. I might not temp the rest of my TWW.

@darkstar42 We're staying in tonight. We're in the middle of a winter storm and getting 6 inches through the evening. My commute home should be a blast (insert eye roll here). Oh and I'd love to get a new car too but MH is the one who really needs a new one right now. We're just dragging our feet because he works from home so isn't driving a ton.
@jaylii Since your H mostly works from home maybe you could get a new car and he could take your current one?
@darkstar42 Do you have friends that would go with you? I've been wanting to see them for years. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about one of their shows. Glad you're feeling a bit better about this cycle. Y'all are really inspiring me to not temp this TWW.
@SkilledSailor Ha, guess I didn't really want to ask him. I was the last one that got a new car and he's been driving my college girl Honda Civic (complete with sorority stickers in the windows) for the last five years. Kind of feel like he deserves a new car, but I do drive more. Hmmm
@darkstar42 I'm so impressed you got your tires on before the storm @LJMoon6 thanks for the pics and stories, that's insane you've been to the South Pole. I've never heard from anyone who has been there. In Thailand the food was the best part for me! @jsnakehole DH and I really want to go to Israel when it is safer @jaylii Third culture kids are amazing, we have considered jobs that travel like that @kiwi2628 I can't imagine that hiking situation in a Bosnia @kobrien827 I loved Thailand and we would probably even go back again rather than to a new country. I have been indulging so much too! I checked in on that health thread a while back and it's just been downhill from there.

@SkilledSailor I’m sorry you had to bug your clients to pay up! That’s no fun. I can’t wait to hear about the concert tonight though! I’ve been wanting to go see them as well, but MH isn’t into it. I’m feeling a bit better about this cycle. I’m not temping for the first time in about 8 months, so that’s been nice.
@kiwi2628 Fx for your beta! And I’m with you on traveling. I can’t stand tour groups or anything like that. I want to actually see wherever it is I’m traveling!
@melbel0824 The Bahamas is beautiful! Which island did you go to? I was on Grand Bahama for a vacation years ago.
@kobrien827 I am the same way with self-control around eating while ttgp. It’s very frustrating.
#teamkiwi @kiwi2628 awesome responses to the randoms today!

@darkstar42 Do you have friends that would go with you? I've been wanting to see them for years. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about one of their shows. Glad you're feeling a bit better about this cycle. Y'all are really inspiring me to not temp this TWW.
@SkilledSailor - enjoy TSO tonight! I would love to see them in concert!

@LJMoon6 thanks for the pics and stories, that's insane you've been to the South Pole. I've never heard from anyone who has been there. In Thailand the food was the best part for me!
@jsnakehole DH and I really want to go to Israel when it is safer
@jaylii Third culture kids are amazing, we have considered jobs that travel like that
@kiwi2628 I can't imagine that hiking situation in a Bosnia
@kobrien827 I loved Thailand and we would probably even go back again rather than to a new country. I have been indulging so much too! I checked in on that health thread a while back and it's just been downhill from there.
