My second OB appt is tomorrow. I don't think they did an US last time with DS at this appt, but I might ask for one just because. We still haven't told anyone we're pregnant, and I think I'd like one last confirmation that all is cool before we start telling the fam.
My 16 week appointment is on Friday and I'm oddly nervous. It's been a long 3.5 weeks since my last appointment and since I've started feeling better, I'm just nervous. I haven't felt movement yet, and I'm sure all this is in my head, but Friday can't come soon enough.
@Austenista I had my second OB appointment last Friday and they tried to use the doppler to hear the HB but because my bladder was full and likely because my uterus is tipped back they couldn't get the HB. I was nervous at first but she just got the u/s out and used that so we got to see them squirming in there. I think they will at least let you hear the HB.
If we decide to go with it regardless of insurance I will have my NT on Friday morning. I was hoping to tell my manager today because I have been having more appointments and with my last one being just last Friday and at the end of the day, I don't want her to think I'm just ditching work and using an appointment as an excuse. But she is out of the office today.

First prenatal appointment with my midwife tomorrow. All my appointments are in my home and I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am that I don’t have to get me and DS ready and out the door and across town for every prenatal appointment.
Then we have our elective ultrasound on Saturday to see if we have a boy or a girl brewing.
I have my second prenatal appt on Thursday. I have to take half a day off of work, so I will be going out for lunch afterwards before heading back to school. I'm hoping he'll pull out the portable ultrasound maching like he did with my last baby. I'd love to get to see my baby bean again now that they'll be looking more like a human than a jelly bean.
had a regular OB appointment today. Dr was an hour late so I laid in the exam room waiting....but- heart beat is good and strong, and next appointment is 1/3 for AFP and another regular OB appointment. Was hoping to squeeze that one in before the end of the year because Jan 1 we are back to our $3k deductible, but they only had middle of the day appointments and I work too far to go there and come back, especially because they are almost ALWAYS late.
@bearnoons the best way to get in quickly at my OB office is to make an appointment an hour before they are set to go home. Everyone wants to go home and everything moves quickly.
@bearnoons - I second what @Austenista said! As someone who works in physician offices, either the first appt in the morning, first one after lunch, or about an hour before they're set to leave. Some doctors don't care and will run behind even after their office closes, but 99% of them will do whatever they need to in order to see patients quicker (usually, it just means less chit chat about things unrelated to the appointment).
I had my first appointment with the new OB office/physician yesterday, and they were absolutely fantastic! All of the staff were efficient and nice (so far), I didn't even have to ask about the NT scan or NIPT -- he offered it before I could even ask about it. The OB was super nice, and really funny. He's brand new to the office (Friday was his first day), so he was running behind quite a bit, but I expected as much with a bigger office. I'm scheduled for my NT scan on Thursday afternoon, and I should get my blood drawn that same day for the NIPT.
@izza2 I love that you were able to get the OB experience you should have had in the first place - it's so reassuring that they offered exactly what you wanted without you even having to ask
regular "monthly" appointment Thursday. I'll be 14w 2d. If all is well I'll have another at 18w. My OB is considered a specialist so her policy is monthly, which I love. IDK what I could do if I only had one appointment during the each of the first trimesters.
Going in today at 3:30. I get so nervous before these appointments where you’re not feeling baby move yourself yet and so you worry you’re going to get some bad news. Trying to be positive and tell myself I will have good things to say about it here this evening.
Going in for a last minute check. I fell on some packed snow yesterday. I was confident when it happened I fell strictly on my right hip but over then next couple hours I convinced myself that maybe I got the right portion of my abdomen too? Talk about paranoia! Anyways, I'm sure all is fine but they want to just listen for baby.
@ffw0617 I go to just a regular OB and I have appointments every 4 weeks too. They alternate between the NP and the OB.
@stephcat421 I'm sure it's fine because baby is pretty snug in there right now but it's good to get checked for the peace of mind. GL! We are all going to have to be more careful this winter!

@krashke@ffw0617 yeah, I see my reg OB every time, and it's every month (except I'm on vacation for 16 weeks, so we're combining 16 and 20 and doing it at 18 weeks with the anatomy scan)
Appointment went well - got to see lil gummy bear and the beating heart. Only issue was they took 7 vials of blood and I unexpectantly had to do the orange drink blood sugar test (it wasn’t that bad). By the 7th vial I apparently went really pale and got nauseous and they had three people on me reclining my chair and icing my head. Full service treatment! That only lasted for a minute - I think seeing the 7 vials got me worked up. Good thing I stayed away from the medical field
@glitterfingers I don't get queasy from blood at all, but I felt so weak after they took the seven vials at my first appt. So even without getting squeamish from the blood, it's definitely enough to knock you on your ass.
Appointment went well today. Got to see LO today, HB at 166 and was moving around, which makes my nerves feel 100x better.
Checked my thyroid again and also am officially being put on bp medication. OB says this can be a good thing because in the end it can help me not get pre-e again. I completely forgot to ask her about trying a different nausea medication, so I’ll talk to them about it when they call and inevitability adjust my thyroid medication again.
Omg you guys talk about such a stressful appt today... Everything's ok, but I am so shaken up.
The OB couldn't find the heartbeat on the Doppler after like 10 mins of looking. I started to freak out a little and when I asked him if it was normal, he said "yeah it could be positioning..." But the look ok his face made me really worried. He asked the nurse to come in and asked her if the Sono tech had left for the day, she had. So he brings me into the Sono room and says he'll attempt it himself to ease my mind. He has no clue how to even turn it on and he and a nurse spend like 20 mins trying to figure out how to work the machine. No luck. So they get the Sono tech on the phone and she's trying to walk my OB through it. God bless his heart he's really trying to figure it out but never gets it. He asks if she can come back in because it'd really ease my mind. She said she would. So I'm laying in the Sono room alone, waiting for the tech to come back to the office. I'm shaking uncontrollably, praying as hard as I can, and just thinking the worst. The tech comes in and finds the baby and heartbeat and I started sobbing so hard and didn't stop for like an hour. I'm so shaken up still, what an awful scare. On the plus side, we got to see our beautiful bean and got an amazing shot of him/her!! I'm so so so so so thankful everything is ok.
@TravelingCouple dang girl you've got me tearing up thinking about that. How traumatizing! I'm so happy everything worked out in the end and you got to see your precious little one. And what a wonderful staff to go through this with you!
@TravelingCouple that sounds awful! It kind of seems like it wasn’t handled well or they weren’t prepared. My OB also couldn’t find the HB with the doppler last week but after a few minutes of trying and I’m sure the bit of worry she could see on my and MH’s faces she just grabbed the portable ultrasound and we were able to have a peek at the baby.
They could have saved you a lot of stress, anxiety and emotions if they kept someone in the office that knows how to use an ultrasound machine when they have prenatal patients in. I’m sorry you had to go through that but I’m glad everything was ok!

@krashke well it was kinda a sticky night overall bc I had the last appt at 4:45 but my OB was at the hospital delivering a baby so I didn't see him until 5:30, and the tech leaves at 5. If his appt had been on time, it would've been fine. Just not something that was planned for of course. The office is really well run and professional and everyone feels so bad that I had to wait on the tech to return. The tech and all the nurses gave me huge hugs after we saw the heartbeat. They are great, it just stunk how it happened. I asked for morning appts from now on so that never happens again!
@krashke@TravelingCouple yeah my ob always pulls out the portable us first to use for literally like 2 seconds so that when she does the Doppler dance none of us panic. I’m sorry you had to go through that but glad all is well @TravelingCouple
Had a routine check up yesterday and got to hear the little heart beat which was exciting...and I got to do my early glucose test and passed so now I get to do it all over again in 14 weeks
@TravelingCouple I'm so sorry that happened to you It's literally the worst feeling. It sounds identical to my last appt, the OB searched for what felt like an eternity with the doppler and couldn't find anything and sent me 30 mins away to the other office that had the portable ultrasound that the NP then didn't know how to use. Eventually all was healthy. Here's to hoping that at our next appointments the dopplers are able to pick up a heartbeat, and quickly!
