+ 1 for being nervous about delivery.  Also I am not having the epidural or meds and DH doesn't think I am strong enough without.  She's staying in forever I have determined.  Until they find an easier way to get her out.
Wow - did he actually say that to you? DH and I have had the no meds talk and he's been instructed to regularly call me a goddess or a rock star, but no negativity is allowed.
  • @TattoosandLace glad to hear things are okay!
  • @TattoosandLace glad everything seems to be ok!

@Chawk17 did he really verbalize that?  I think mine would be throat punched.

Everyone nervous about l&d just remember it will be what it will be...easier said then done I know. And 9/10 of the time women know the difference! I’m just awaiting my RCS since my last was an emergency and I doubt I’ll go into labor before hand. My biggest concern is being told I’m having another emergency section during one of my twice a week NSTs.
  • With DS1 I thought my water broke and went in. Said I was having contractions… But sent me home around 3pm bc they were not painful and I was only 1cm. Around 5  I was in terrible awful pain (labor... but didn’t know it)  my mom told me to go in so we did. Bc of traffic we didn’t get to the hospital till 645-7 (I can’t remember… I was in labor lol). I was a 9 when we arrived and DS was born at 7:33pm.

DD took her sweet time. We went in at 8pm and I was a 4. At 1am I was only a 5. She was born at 5:16am sunny side up.  I always wondered if it was because of her position made her take so long (compared to DS1).

Anyways,  because of the vast difference, I’m very curious to see what DS2 will do. I won’t lie,  as scary and fast as it was… I would much prefer a birth similar to DS1

And don’t listen to random people’s ridiculous labor stories. When I was pregnant with DD and people tried to tell me crazy shit, I would stop them in their tracks. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
THIS. I have a no bad labor stories rule that I am now changing to no labor stories rule just because certain people are getting ridiculous. Anyone who starts a statement with "I don't mean to scare you but" deserves a throat punch. :/

I might be a little cranky about this...
  • @smorzandoj @ldawngirl781 yep he verbalized it. Tells me " good luck" Not to be mean, just matter of factly stated.
Not to defend DH...but 1- I am a weak unit.
2- he's not the softess person no caudling here.
People say ths girl will soften us up.
I promise he's not a jerk...just rough around the edges.
BUT, I do want to try going natural. It's my goal. @ldawngirl781 im going to tell him about the positive comments only.

I hope everyone is doing well! It has been absolutely insanity over here. Our tile floors are still not done and they were supposed to be finished Wednesday! I failed my 1 hour and had to go take the 3 but passed that one. We have to have our roof replaced and we are living in total chaos since we can't get everything unpacked until the tile is done. DD is adjusting okay to the move. The first night here was REALLY rough. I also ended up dropping out of a wedding/ending a friendship all together. Last week was crazy. I'd like an easy week please.
Congrats on passing 3 hour. And ugh on house remodel. Did dropping out of wedding ruin friendship, or was that separate...good thing or bad?
  • Would it be odd to put cleaning stuff on the baby registry? We use Norwex and have the mop and I'd love to get another wet mop pad so I don't have to constantly clean the first one or be without when it's in the wash. Do you think I'm safe to add it or should I just suck it up and buy it myself?
Put it on. It's to make your life easy with baby.
  • I wasn't able to do anything on the bump over the weekend and now I feel like I cant catch up on the posts! So frustrating
  • Chawk17 - Are you doing the Bradley Method? Do you think your H would be up for it?

  • I feel a little better after the hospital pre-registration and tour.  DH said he remembers the drill, but I had to remind him that I had a lot on my mind (baby trying to come out of me).

With DS2 I had slight back pain off and on through the morning.  I sent my nurse a text and she said I should probably get checked.  It wasn’t super painful so I had DH stop for food before going to get checked.  I was at a 5 and having every 7 minute contractions.  3 hours later DS2 was here.

But if how uncomfortable these BH contractions are is any indication, labor contractions are gong to be obvious
  • Chawk17 - Are you doing the Bradley Method? Do you think your H would be up for it?
    What's the Bradley method?

  • Realizing that I’d like everything finished by the time I’m 38 weeks I decided to wash the newborn and 3mo size baby clothes today.

Whats up with Wal-Mart and Target brand clothes shrinking so bad?!?! I’m fairly certain that they will fit my daughter’s dolls. I held them up to DD’s take home outfit (in a shadow box in the hallway) and they’re a full three inches shorter. DS1 and DD were spoiled in carters. Looks like I’ll be getting some for DS2 as well. I’m so bummed.

  • @Jennifer_m21 @gingermama26 and @chucksmom15 I'm also a FTM and afraid I won't recognize when I'm in labor.  I work an hour away from the hospital and home.  I DO NOT want it to start while I'm at work.
This.  I'm also terrified and live an hour away.  Work is a little closer, but I'd really rather it not happen there (as if I have a choice!)  While there are lots of supportive people there who would be awesome (read: calmer than me) in that situation, it's a scene I'd much rather not cause.

@TattoosandLace , I hope LO quits the shenanigans and settles back into her usual pattern!
  • I'm feeling like she's trying to kick her way out lately. haha! Her kicks are getting so strong.
  • Over the weekend we got almost all the hand me downs people were promising is over the months! It was so fun to go through all the baby clothes.  We now have a handful of clothes in all sizes up to 3T. And we got our bassinet! I was unreasonably worried that baby would come home with no where to sleep. I know that the Kids and Oma bought the baby Christmas gifts as well. Can't wait to see what they got and a little pleased that so far we will need to buy some clothes do i can shop for cute outfits too!

On a side Note so many shirts/onesies that proclaim how great grandma is or how much she will spoil baby or along the lady killer chick magnet line.  Baby has a whole set of"Barn" clothes.

  • @mamaof5already I've been having such unreasonable anxiety over the baby not having anywhere to sleep, too (we aren't planning to assemble our second crib until after the holidays to maximize space for guests, etc.).  My husband keeps reminding me that if the baby came before that happens, he wouldn't be coming home right away anyway.  This has clearly done nothing to assuage my anxiety because reason does not work on a 30+ week pregnant woman.
  • @Starynightsky24 Yeah I always felt like all non-Carter’s brands fit weird or shrunk weird or something, there were very few clothes for DS that I ended up liking other than Carters. If it helps, Carter’s has really really good sales right now on their whole inventory, plus free shipping online. I’ve ended up getting stocked up through 3months on my own just using all their sales and the coupons I get in the mail/email even though we’re on an extra tight budget this time around.

  • There was a Boston Red Sox onesie in the bag of clothes my SIL gave us and DH said he's not sure if he will let him wear it @mamaof5already.  DH is a Cleveland Indians fan and considers it just as bad as the outfits you mentioned lol
  • I'm seriously considering getting puppy pads or bed pads just in case water breaks while I'm asleep or just hanging out on the brand new couch lol. Also I'm so deeply thankful I got the okay (though verbally, I stilll want it in writing) to work in Jan from the office 10 min from home/doctor, instead of our HQ which is an hour away. I'm wondering if I need to pack a hospital bag for my car as well as DH if I do start while at work... Is that over preparing?
  • @Starynightsky24 Target clothes seem to run short and wide....which is how DD was shaped so they were perfect haha!

@Chawk17 The events leading up to it are what really ended the friendship. She'd planned an expensive bachelorette party that I told her I couldn't afford to go on anymore after everything in the house, DHs new job, paying out of pocket for insurance etc. She basically called me a liar and said I was choosing not to go and that I wasn't making her a priority etc. She called me selfish and some other things. I'm not really upset to be away from all of that. She's honestly kind of crazy.

I cant remember who asked about the floor, I'll deal with everything once it's finally finished. They did get a 3 man crew out here today so it should hopefully be finished.

Are you a FTM?  My Hospital is 1h15 drive from my house (without stops and with good traffic). My labor with my first, from first contraction to holding a baby was 13 hours 10 minutes. My second start to baby was 6 hrs 45 minutes. I’m slightly nervous this time since we’ll have to drop the girls off en route, but hopefully we make it in time for the epidural.
  • @winnie1122 yes! I went to carters after dropping DS at school and got stuff to replace the odd clothes. At least those others were cheap. I love target and Wal-Mart toddler stuff. But I won’t be buying anymore infant things! lol.

  • @clc515 you can get a waterproof mattress protector at Walmart for fairly cheap. They’re a lot more comfortable. We bought it bc when DS  was potty training he kept sneaking in our bed and we did not want to risk anything happening in our bed.

I think I kept my hospital bag in my car when I was pregnant with DS.  Our OB is almost an hour from our house--I went straight from there to the hospital to be induced.  Thankfully, I had everything in our car (except extra clothes for DH--rookie mistake).  Do whatever makes you feel comfortable.  When I was a FTM, I also unpacked and repacked my hospital bag regularly bc I was afraid of forgetting something.  Spoiler Alert--we did forget stuff, but it was easy for visitors/grandparents to grab on the way to hospital when DS was born.
  • @chucksmom15 Great advice! I’ll most likely be using that! I have leather seats as well.
  • @TattoosandLace , yes, a FTM.  There is just so much unknown- I am so glad to have you all to share your experiences!
  • My doctor told me to start bringing my bag in the car just in case when I hit 36 weeks.  I can't remember who it was but a few months ago they suggested puppy pads on your car seat in case your water broke while you were in your car.  Totally doing that bc my car is 6 months old and I have leather seats.  Don't want to ruin them!!!
Didn't even think about bringing bag in car at 36 weeks ( which is getting closer). Thanks for the tip.

Maybe I am making a rookie mistake.  Our hospital is only 15-20 min highway drive from home- not too far, and just down the street from OB.  How reasonable is it to think DH can just run home and grab forgotten items.  Crazy or doable?  I haven't even packed a bag yet.

Totally doable. I had an emergency csection at 36 weeks. Had no bag. He just went home and got what I asked for. It wasn’t a big deal.

Unless it is something that you'll need during the actual labor I think this is doable. I hardly pack anything (one reusable cloth grocery bag for me, DH and baby to share) and just send DH home if I need it post partum.

  • @Chawk17 a lot depends on how your labor/delivery/recovery goes, but having an unmedicated labor and rough delivery/recovery, I personally wouldn't have wanted DH to leave the hospital once we were there (and we were even closer to home than yours -- 10 mins on city streets).  That being said, there isn't much in your hospital bag that's truly indispensable (I would argue the only actual needs are an outfit to bring baby home, your toothbrush, and a phone charger -- plus having your car seat installed).  The hospital should have basic toiletries, diapers/wipes, baby blankets, postpartum care items for you, etc.  Of course, relying on the hospital isn't an ideal situation, but I like to remind myself that it wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't have everything on my list.  That being said, I will be packing plenty early this time as I didn't have a bag packed last time and wound up packing while in labor at 36 weeks.
  • @Chawk17 I was thinking along the same lines. I live maybe 1 mile from my hospital and don't see a huge need to pack much of a bag really.
  • edited December 2017
I liked having my bad ready to go. With DS I immediately pulled out my robe that I had packed to wear while walking the hallways to get labor going (hello open backs of the hospital gowns!). And DH enjoyed the snacks I packed.  I guess we could’ve survived without those things... but they are very convenient. As a FTM I didn’t want DH leaving either. I was a wreck lol. That said,  this time I am sending him home right away to be with DS and DD.

EDIT: mine will be in my car at around 37 weeks

  • Good advice everyone. Good point on the robe @Starynightsky24..plus I don't like being cold and those outfits are drafty.
  • I think the pee pads would be more helpful for cloth seats.  Leather should just wipe  up.

My water broke at the grocery store with my 1st, i rode home and showered and then to the hospital sitting on a regular towel,  you would never know and it was light beige leather seats.  Amniotic fluid is generally clearish.

And i 2nd the mattress protector in bed instead of a pee pad.
