I have asked for delayed cord clamping after both my kids (and will this time as well) and the Dr always has some stupid excuse not to do it. I’m going to be super angry if they do it again (I changed hospitals and doctors… So hopefully this one is better)
@rainafire77 I just signed up for a hospital tour, and the earliest they have in January is the 21st! I asked H if he wanted to come and here's the convo:
H: Why would I go? Me: To learn where everything is. H: But you're going? Me: Yes H: And I'll be with you the whole time while you give birth, right? Me: Likely, yes. H: So why can't you just tell me where things are?
Touche, husband.
My husband said "why do we have to tour the hospital? It's a hospital. You've seen one you've seen them all." Now that he's gone, he's glad we went so he knows that we can go straight to l&d since we've pre-registered, that if he has to leave & come back after 8 he has to come back in through the ER but since he'll have a"l&d partner bracelet they'll wave him right back through. He's also glad to know what the full process will be and what's going to happen when I go for my c-section. He said he learned things that he didn't know he needed to know so he was glad he went.

I agree with others he needs to go. They told DH things like where to park, how to pay for parking… Were ask for a wheelchair if I need one to get in… etc. When you are in labor you will not want to have to tell him those things.
You guys make excellent points I hadn't thought of! I'm having a scheduled c-section so it should be less chaotic than if I were in labor, but knowing the locations of things like cafeteria and parking is helpful.

Random sad thought for the day: we had to send our kitty to heaven tonight. I’m devastated. Which probably isn’t good for the growing baby inside me.
I'm sorry for your loss. As a pet mom my heart breaks.. Did you have her cremated so she can be with you forever? For me, I have my two dogs in the kitchen cupboard ( in urns). And it let's me know they are still with me.
Yep, she’s getting cremated. They said we’ll be getting her tiny paw prints too. We will have to pick out an urn here soon, but everything hurts too much right now. It’s too soon for me to make that decision.
@jenniferjoy37 I got this idea from a local blogger who writes about the medical issues of her dogs: Get an urn shaped like a dog/cat for their ashes (or get one made from a photo of your pet), or a statue, and put their collar(s) around it so you can keep them close and remember their life from their well-worn collars. I love the idea of getting paw prints done, too, I will definitely do that when the time comes. Again, I'm so sorry!

@jenniferjoy37 - I'm so sorry you lost your cat. It's such a horrific thing to endure.
@eggplantface - I echo what others have said. Your DH needs to go with you to the tour. You'll be too occupied mentally and physically to tell him how to get somewhere or do something.

I am so glad they are giving you a chance for closure. It is hard for people without pets to understand that this type of loss is like losing a member of your immediate family. Don't listen to those people and be sure to take the time to grieve. Sending you so much love!
@jenniferjoy37 I'm so sorry about your cat! Losing a fur baby is so heartbreaking :-( I second the paw print and urn. We keep our pup's print on the mantle. I found one urn box thing that's like a rotating picture frame with the ashes in the center. Lots of ways to remember our loved animals.
Okay, so I just signed us up for a full-day first time parents birth class, which is held at the hospital. Do you think we also need to do a tour? I wonder if I should call them and ask.
@lucylou214 if your hospital offers a tour I would definitely recommend doing it! Ours doesn’t allow tours but had an ‘online tour’ targeted at labour and delivery which was helpful but when we had to go in to the hospital to get monitored, the online tour definitely wasn’t the same as actually being at the hospital. As much as having to go in for monitoring was scary I was so glad that it gave me the opportunity to see the unit and go through the process so I would know what to expect for the real thing.

At our hospital they were separate, but I would call and ask.
Yay! My doctor told me today that he fully supports delayed cord clamping of at least 30 seconds during a c-section if the baby is fine and will go up to a minute if I'd like.

Parents choice holiday diapers are $5 a box with in store pickup at some Walmart locations. You gotta search the app...I found them but not at the closest store to me.
An older kid came into my classroom this morning, extremely excited, and said, "Look! I found a REALLY OLD penny!!! It was made in 1995!!!!"
At my brother's bday party a couple months ago there were several kids there, and H was talking to one of them about cartoons. H asked if the kid had ever heard of Thunder Cats and the kid gets this smirk and goes "That's some crappy cartoon from the 1900s."
THE 1900s!!!
I'm going to just wait for the hearse now.

In the province I live in the legal drinking age is 18. So in January kids born in 2000 will legally be allowed to drink.
Dh tried to explain the clapper to 14 year old dd. She thought it was the best thing ever. So now she's getting an original one for Christmas. It was invented in 1985.

Agree, and much cheaper than the fancy LED smart bulbs, Nest devices, Alexa, Google Home, etc. We have an Alexa, and we just use it to tell us the weather when we wake up!
I’m a 90s baby but taught high school right out of college. It still threw me for a loop when my high school students’ birthdays started to be in the 2000s!

I have a good friends wedding tomorrow. We will get to see lots of friends from college. I woke up super excited this morning and then realized I'll have to shave my legs. I'm tired just thinking about it.
I’m sick and it’s only getting worse so I picked up my antibiotic today. Got officially readmitted to my college yesterday. Got my student ID and email all set up. Spent the afternoon filling out all the forms needed to be registered. Only to get an email from my advisor that not only do I need 9 credits instead of the 3 I was told, but my transcript doesn’t show psych 101 at all. Wtaf is going on?!
@TattoosandLace your advisor seems to be quite incompetent. Usually you can get them to waive the entry level classes if you have passed advanced class in the same subject

Went to work party last night ...it was boring until my DH was sitting on back of couch tipped couch over and fell....bad thing however was couch and DH all came down on my toe closest to pinky. Don't know if it's bruised or broke.
@TattoosandLace Did you have to adopt the new catalogue year? That's what happens if I go back and they've changed my program to not include some things I've taken and require new things.
I keep reading about witch hazel for postpartum care. What can you tell me about it? Do I need to track some down? Buy witch hazel pads or make my own??
@chucksmom15 Tucks are witch hazel pads, they helped a lot with itchiness and soreness while healing. I never made those padsicle things which I think people make with witch hazel gel or something like that, but it serves the same purpose! Just the Tucks worked fine for me but I didn’t have much tearing so I probably wasn’t as sore as some people are. I think I went through about two tubs of them post-partum in total, they were also helpful for the stupid hemorrhoids I got from delivery...ugh.
