STM + Check-in Dec 6

Re: STM + Check-in Dec 6

  • @coffeecocktailsandcake so my friend discovered for her the key was finding actives that we’re only allowed at table/high chair like arts and craft stuff and but the toddler there while she did other stuff. But also they learn to play on there own. You’ll figure it out :)

  • @kindbytealikat someone else mentioned the pants no undies thing to me so I am on that right now. But he's failing a LOT. I'm wondering if this is like teaching math and now I should go back to the previous skill because maybe he wasn't proficient in naked so and I moved to no pants too soon? LOL. Or maybe I just need to be patient. We had three days of nakedness and no mistakes so I thought we were good there! I do undies and pants outside the house. And prayers.

Ummm... I guess it's too late to re-think this second child thing!  j/k. I know it's all (mostly) sarcasm and I think siblings are the greatest!

  • @westphilly you made my night with that article, I'm picturing everything now when the the new baby arrives. She nailed it for me on the diet consisting of my toddlers leftovers and a mushed blueberry on the floor  :D

Not at the moment, my youngest is 2.5 and has been in his bed since about 2, but all my kids slept with me for a long time

How old are your other kids? my son Leo is 2

Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else)- Leo is in a very physical stage and he’s making me tired and a little nervous about him crawling all over me! But it’s soooo cute that he asks to “see” the baby
  • @ecwk DS goes to sleep in his own bed, but if he wakes up in the night we just bring him into bed with us. When he was an infant we used a co-sleeper that just went in the bed between us, but not sure what to do now because I'll still want to let DS in bed if he wants. I've looked at some side of bed co-sleepers, but honestly don't want to buy more gear for just those instances. We might just try to make room!

Yup. The plan is to move DS to his own floor bed in his room. I’ll still nurse and lay with him to sleep at first, but DH will start taking that over soon.

  • Hey ladies, I’m late coming here. Just posted on the intro and spreadsheet last night.

    How far along are you?
    4w5d

Boy/Girl/ Team Green/Surprise? we will find out (mostly so we can figure out what to keep and what to get rid of since this will be our last)

How old are your other kids? DS turned 2 in November

Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else)- DS is starting to get really vocal and learning a lot of new words, and so I’m torn between wanting to start talking about the new baby with him and being nervous that he’ll spill the beans before we’re ready for people to know. We did already tell our daycare provider (in-home), and she told me she’ll have to get a variance, because there will be two other infants starting in 2018! My pregnancy with DS went really smoothly, but I had a lot of complications during L&D, so that worry is already in the back of my mind - trying to just remind myself that every pregnancy and birth are different.

GTKY:  Do your baby names have a theme? No theme here other than family names. Right now, I’m thinking Sylvia Elizabeth for a girl and Brett Peter for a boy.

Both L and E coslept 2-3 times a week. We made them a small set of bunk beds that fit next to our bed in the old house. Since they got used to mom and dad being so close, but not in the same bed, it’s been easy to move the bunk beds into another room at this house.

  • Nervous about the sleeping thing too. Hoping lo will have better sleeping habits within 9 months. She's 2 in February and will sleep the first part of the night by herself ( 4hrs) and then wakes up constantly after that for the remaining of the night usually wanting to nurse for comfort. Any tips are welcome,  it to know we aren't alone with these sleeping habits. ( She eats really well right before sleeping so i don't think it's hunger)   cheers!

Boy/Girl/ Team Green/Surprise? I'm team surprise. BUT my 4 year old will be heart broken if she has another brother hahaha! So we will find out. I don't care either way!

Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else)- Nervous about having 3 kids. This was a HUGE surprise. We had no idea, I took the test expecting a negative. I had a hard time with PPD last time and I also deal with HG. So it's a lot to take in.

  • How far along are you? 4+1... I think!  :)

Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else)- My daughter is going through some kind of phase right now where she will NOT sleep through the night. I am hoping it doesn't last for too much longer!!!!  :'(

I miss being a pregnant FTM. DS is overwhelming at times. He gets so frustrated and lashes out. Yesterday he took a toy and threw it at my head. I thought I was going to lose my mind. I also hate that I get so much pregnancy anger! I feel like my fuse is so short right now!

GTKY:  Do your baby names have a theme? No
  • @ecwk we're still cosleeping (ds is 11 months) but we're hoping to use the week we have off over Xmas to move him to his own bed.

Right now he only does an hour or two a night in the pack'n'play we have in our room so I feel like it's going to be a long week but if my ms and heart burn get as bad as it was last time I don't think I'll survive cosleeping.

I second @Danelle+Miguel and would love some transition tips. If I learn anything useful over Xmas I'll be sure to share :)
  • @Krysta6 Yes, being pregnant with no other children was a breeze. This is tough. My son is 3 and just recently decided to be very needy and clingy again (probably because of the baby news) and he lashes out as well, if he isn't getting his way or attention.
  • @Krysta6 I'm right there with the pregnancy rage plus toddler attitude. Last night, I had to haul my son upstairs because he dumped a box of popcorn packing peanuts for a second time right after I had just talked to him about it. We've started short timeouts and that has helped a little. Usually, I need the timeout because I'm so ragey! But they're just little jerks with complete lack of self control at this age!

Btw, I really admire you co-sleeping parents. I just don't know how you do it!
  • @westphilly convenience. When I went back to work it was the only way any of us were getting any sleep. Plus I love the snuggles

  • @ecwk Yes, I think the snuggles and bonding would be sooo great! I would love to do it, but none of us would sleep. He's a wild sleeper and DH and I wake each other up enough as is. Plus, I need that 1-2 hours after he goes to bed to get stuff wrapped up and that hour before he gets up to get ready for work.
  • @westphilly L would always just go to sleep in our bed, even if we weren't there. So I could come whenever afterwards and he was fine. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, it is really comforting and just nice to get extra snuggles.

@westphilly haha yeah they're great but there are nights when I'm being clawed and kicked and I'm like WTF was I thinking doing this?! Thankfully he goes to sleep initially in his crib from about 7-10/11 and then we just bring him to bed. But it needs to change because he can't be doing that when we have a newborn!!

How old are your other kids? One son who is 2y 9m

Rants/Raves/Questions (related to being a STM, stages your kids are going through, or anything else)- my son is going through a rude phase, lots of 'stop', 'no', 'leave me alone'. He is also very needy, wants us to do everything for him and wont even let the dog sit in my lap without getting jealous.

GTKY:  Do your baby names have a theme? Yes it will start with a vowel, probably an I. My name starts with an A so does my son, my husband starts with an I so we are looking at I names.

  • @westphilly we have started one minute time outs lately! The problem is when he does something super naughty and hurts us he laughs! Makes it sooo hard to remain calm!
  • Any moms struggling with discipline, I recommend Janet Landsbury! She has a Facebook page, podcasts and books, and offers a lot of info on communicating with our kids. It’s a struggle to do on a daily basis, and I still find myself yelling or resorting to timeouts occasionally. But I really like her perspective and have been trying to incorporate it more.

I feel so guilty I have zero energy to play much with DS! Being pregnant with kid(s) is a whole other game.
DS also cosleeps so we will have to find a solution (?) for that before baby arrives. I’m just mostly concerned with baby crying and DS waking up. He’s a light sleeper (hence, why he won’t stay in his bed in his room. He doesn’t feel me and wakes up immediately).

We didn’t even bother with a crib. He never slept in that thing. We got him a mattress on the floor. I nurse or DH or I cuddle him to sleep and then roll away. Also trying to night wean, so DH tries to sooth him before I go in when he wakes. I don’t let him cry alone, that’s just me.

I was afraid he’d just get up in the middle of the night if I did the mattress on floor. I’ll
have to try and see, maybe he’ll like that better.
Yes, agree on the not crying alone.

    Edit: spelling
  • @mamaek My DS goes to sleep initially in his crib but once he wakes up he ends up in bed with us. I think it's going to end up him sleeping with DH and baby sleeping with me. Although I have a friend who just moved her cosleeping 1.5 year old to her own toddler bed and she STTN from the beginning, so maybe a mattress/toddler bed could work better than a crib. IDK. It's something I think about a lot. I never did sleeptraining and DS has been a brutal/light sleeper since birth. I'm sure I am due a karma baby who STTN from the get go....
