@ekendall09 I love your floors. Love them. When we had our house remodeled a few years ago we were supposed to get wide-planked, dark wood floors. I couldn’t wait. When I showed up after the flooring guy was done, lo and behold we had the same red oak that everyone on the planet has. When I freaked out on the contractor, he just said “yeah we were starting to go way over budget so I had to make a decision.” I was sooooo angry. I would have sacrificed a lot of other things to get floors like yours!
@kmalls I would have been devastated too. We have an 1800 farmhouse so all our floors are original and wood (as far as we can tell. Our other connecting living room has the beautiful original pine color (as does our bedroom and the future nursery) but they painted a good number of rooms black. Instead of refinishing we did keep the ones they had black and just repainted them. We are paying someone to refinish the nursery ones because i'm unwilling to give up the originals! I can totally understand why you'd be devastated.
@ekendall09 us, too! Our house was built by DH’s great-grandparents in 1880. Unfortunately by the time he inherited the house it was basically falling down, which meant we had to renovate the entire thing. The only original pine floors we could save are in the kids’ rooms and they look amazing refinished, but we had to put in new floors for the rest of the house. I wanted so badly to preserve the old farmhouse look, but no — it now looks like every other house around. Replacing those floors with what I want is on the list of things to do, but honestly I can’t imagine paying to replace practically brand-new floors any time soon. Ugh.
PS - your SO totally knows our contractor, I’d imagine. He’s been based on your current town for a long time. I’ll withhold more comment in case he’s a friend
@kmalls that is so cool, what a treasure to keep in the family....loveeeeee the old farmhouses! I think ours is 1840, it was an old mill house at one point from what I understand.
Ha, he knows too many people, I can't keep up but as far as I know he isn't super close with any contractors that I can think of. And he has plenty of his own opinions on other tradesmen in the region haha
Team white lights!! You all have such pretty trees.
I’m excited that we were able to decorate this year. Last Christmas little man had just started walking so we decided to decorate the wall instead, it didn’t have the same feeling!
Our tree I want a tree skirt. But our cats like to lay on it and fur it up. We threw our last one away because of fur and cat puke, lol. DS helped put ornaments on, so I tried to rearrange a little bit haha.
This is our first tree in my adult life. We’re all pretty excited about it. We don’t have a skirt or a star yet, but I’m going to wait for sales to purchase them.
@ftm_ohio Thanks! It was a gift to DS from my parents and my grandma 2 years ago. It also has a setting that plays Christmas music and can steam real smoke. DS is obsessed and can be found like this most days:
@sapphires-and-diamonds I bet he does love that!! One of our friends had a similar setup when I was growing up! I was always jealous! Adorable picture!
Well “because we can” we have two trees. One for our main living room and one for the basement. “My” tree has white and blue theme. Blue was my moms favorite color and she absolutely loved Christmas and family time it brought so this is my annual homage to her memory. The basement tree is all about letting dd express her creativity! We haven’t gotten the popcorn chain up because the cats kept eating it!!
When we are done with the the trees we will make pinecone bird feeders to hang in them and stand them outside for critters to live in.
This is our first tree together (we lived with in laws after getting married) so we don’t have a topper yet or a skirt but we do have a cool German Shepherd dog ornament
@frenchiekinplusone thanks! It’s Benjamin Moore Narragansett Green. It alternates between a navy and an ocean blue green depending on the light. I love it too!
Ignore that the tree is completely falling over sideways. They had both attempted to put the star on and it just didn’t get put back up straight yet! We have a ton of Disney ornaments and Hallmark ornaments starting from when I was a born. DH too!
@ftm_ohio@peppersmith22 I keep saying that when we get a bigger house with a basement, I'm going to have my own tree exclusively made up of Disney ornaments! I buy 1 or 2 new ones from the Hallmark Keepsake collection every year. This year's new entry is Jasmine & Aladdin on the magic carpet, and it plays 'A Whole New World'.
@peppersmith22 They are this neat product called Algue. It comes in individual pieces that you can put together in any configuration you want. Mount it to the wall or hang from the ceiling like a screen.Lots of fun colors too!
Christmas hasn’t been great for a few years, but I’m trying to get into it. DH and I brought up the tree tonight. I think I donated my ornaments when I moved 2 years ago lol. It has white lights, but nothing else. Not worth a picture I’m in awe of the beautiful trees you have!
