So today was the first time to BD since conception (you're probably thinking what's wrong with me lol but PGAL paranoid brain.) It was painful!! Anyone else experience this? Will it get better?
@katie121209 we have not yet either since I found out at 7 weeks. So it's been 5 weeks with no BD. So silly to me bc we did during weeks 4,5,and 6 before we knew and it was fine. I think he might be a little weirded out by it too.
Interested to hear other people's answers though, bc my V already hurts some way up in there as it is.
@katie121209@amys614 DH and I did it last week for the first time since conception too. I feel like at the beginning some times that just happens. It was painful for me afterwards. The painful ness of it makes sense in my head because of all the extra blood and pressure, but I never asked a doctors. I hate pregnancy sex and with DD we rarely did it because it just crashes my libido.

We've had sex regularly since conception and it's never been painful.
If you're dry, make sure you're using lube so that's not an issue. And if it's still painful, try a different position. It could end up just being from the increased blood flow and sensitivity of your entire vaginal region, but it really shouldn't be painful either way. Discomfort, sure. But no pain.
@katie121209 probably cervix sensitivity. Try a position that doesn’t go as deep. (And you’re not alone in infrequency. DH and I have banged twice since I ovulated lol and I’m 14+2 )
I second the cervix. Maybe try laying down on your sides spooning style. It will put more of the penetration on the front of your vagina instead of back towards the cervix. My Dr said when she looked in there at my first appointment that my cervix was "Nice! Tight, high and blue" from the increased blood flow and holding everything in there. I would definitely think that could cause some pain if poked too much.
On the BD front, I was worried about this awhile ago. MH and I were on about a once a week schedule and then I lost all interest and we didn't do it for like a month. He went away for a week before Thanksgiving and after that I have been ready to go a lot more. I also got more comfortable with everything and I have been more communicative about what I want.

Yes, we did it yesterday for the first time since conception too (because DH worries he’s going to do something to baby regardless of what science says) so apparently yesterday was a popular day for reunions.
I didnt experience any pain, but sometimes if we haven’t in a while it will be painful just because we haven’t. Also, with pregnancy can come increased sensitivity. Like others have said, maybe try a different position or ask him to be gentler. There is a lot going on up there and so you may just have to figure out what makes your body the most comfortable.
...as for us, what a relief. Abstaining since October 1st has been challenging. My body was like “yes please!”
We have BD pretty frequently and I get the same sort of pain you're talking about - kind of like a pressure pain that just can be uncomfortable. It doesn't happen consistently but when it does we just take it easy. And I agree with @izza2, try a different position or lube etc. and it will help.
Orgasms are a whole different story... for a while after finishing I would get what felt like a tiny contraction (I'm a FTM but that's all I can think of!) where I couldn't move for maybe 5 seconds and then it passed. I don't really get them anymore though!
OMG this thread made me laugh to myself- DH and I BD for the first time since BFP this weekend too. Must have been the weekend to reconnect on our board. As a STM (with PGAL brain) I was prepared for the difference in sensation. Luckily this pregnancy has had me feeling "friskier" than normal, so my body was properly prepared, but I will say that as your body changes over the next few months, you will have to try different positions and/or bring in props to help support your growing body. It gets better- but it's never going to be the same again.
I definitely have light cramping/contraction-like feelings after orgasm...I sometimes think about the baby being like, "Oooh, hey, what's going on in here?!"

Oh, I forgot that I also have a question. This is sort of long shot, but STM+ moms: In previous pregnancies, did anyone get weekly progesterone shots to prevent preterm birth? Based on my previous history of spontaneous preterm labor, I will be getting them from weeks 16-36, as recommended by my OB, and I just don't know what to expect. Any noticeable side effects? Also, did you go in to the office every week to get them (which my OB wants me to do), or were you able to have your H or other loved one learn how to give the shots to you?

Pregnancy makes me dry so we have to use tons of lube and my cervix does hurt, so we're constantly changing it up. I could go my whole pregnancy without sex but DH would be miserable so I buck up and try my best to get into it- which usually works lol.
We just starting DTD again. (DH was swamped at work last couple months but now he's not so he's Mr. Frisky.) No pain here. I just get out of breath afterwards (like wheezy and need to use my inhaler.) I've got mild asthma that gets a bit worse during pregnancy.
We haven't taken any BD breaks (although my libido has definitely dropped because I'm jsut so tired all the time) and I haven't experienced any pain (discomfort, yes). I've always been a fan of lube and I still am so I don't know if that helps. I've also found that I'm pretty limited to a position where I'm hunched over my stomach (spooning, on all fours, etc). Anything that stretches out my stomach area is uncomfortable now.

Has anyone else not been offered the NT scan? Or, does anyone else's office not offer it period?
TL;DR: my office doesn't offer NT scans, didn't know what I was talking about, and I'll be switching practices.
Long version: I had a back-and-forth with the NP at my practice (which, apparently my messages are always forwarded to her and don't go to the OBs, regardless of their nature, which kind of irks me - I like her, she's a good physician and a great person, but at some point you'd expect to be cared for by one of the people who will be delivering your baby, yes?) yesterday, and the end result of the whole conversation was that she didn't understand what the NT scan was, they don't offer it at their practice at all, I wouldn't be eligible for any other ultrasounds except for the anatomy scan because "insurance" (false, but thanks), and that I shouldn't know what the NT scan is because I've never been pregnant before... Oh, and that nursing school just tells you all of the possible tests during pregnancy, but I shouldn't go by what I'm taught for what to expect for my own pregnancy...
I'm going to end up switching practices because I'm not comfortable being seen somewhere that I'm constantly pushed off on the NP unless I walk in and get lucky enough to talk to the nurse/wife of the only physician in the practice that I really like. Nor being seen somewhere that tells me I don't know what I'm talking about because I've never been pregnant, and doesn't know what basic/generic first trimester screening tests consist of.
@katie121209 - I'm 11+3, so I've got a couple of weeks to get in and have it done if I'm able to switch practices soon, thankfully. It's another reason their lack of a response to their patient portal really irked me -- that was a whole week I waited to hear something back, couldn't get through to the call center, and their lines kept going down, and that was a whole week ago I could've known this and started the process. Ugh.
@izza2 that's crazy. I thought the NT scan was a standard test offered during the first tri. I was told insurance always covers it. I hope you can find a practice that makes you comfortable!
@izza2 That is very bizarre. My OB's office doesn't physically perform the scan or do the bloodwork either, but they certainly know what NT testing is, and give the orders for the appropriate ultrasound department and lab to have it done. The whole experience you've described sounds like a giant red flag to me, and I'm really glad you're switching practices.

Son Max born 1/10/17 BFP #2: 10/5/17; EDD: 6/11/18
@izza2 if I call, I get a nurse. But my OB's office's online portal only allows me to email my OB. So she's the one who responds. I've basically given up hope of getting the nurses/receptionists to know anything about even scheduling, so I just email my doctor, which I'm sure is SUPER fun for her, but like, get more competent people, yo.
All that to say, I would be super annoyed if I didn't have that email-my-doctor option. And whatever, like, if you want to order additional tests that insurance "might not" pay for, that's your business. Why wouldn't they offer it? That's so weird.
@izza2 I haven't had to call my current OB with any questions/ concerns (knock on wood it stays that way), but my last OB's office was the same way. One of the reasons was that my OB had at least 1 day a week where she was at the hospital doing rounds, but her nurse was in the office M-Sa. Often Erin (her nurse) would call me back first and if the issue was serious the doctor would call back later to check in as well. Usually I would only call with questions that the nurse could answer, so it wasn't a big deal. If there was contractions that didn't stop, bleeding, ect than the doctor always called back.
As for the NT scan, every office I have been to (I've been to 3 different OBs for 4 different pregnancies) has not done the NT in office, instead you are given a prescription to get it done at the hospital (my current hospital calls the suite Prenatal Testing Center whereas the last two hospitals called it Maternal Fetal Medicine). If you want to switch OBs you should do it sooner than later- since the NT can only be done from 11- 14 weeks. You could also opt for NIPT if you cannot get into a MFM office for an NT before 14 weeks, but your insurance may not cover it.
@izza2 your practice sounds exactly like mine. I'm am still trying to sort out the NT scan issue. Every time I call I get sent to scheduling first. I have asked for a phone number for the nurses line specifically but they just say "oh just call the main number, we don't have a direct line." BS. Then I ask my question to the scheduling people and they have no idea what I'm talking about so they transfer me to the nurses line. When I called about the NT scan she thought I was talking about NIPT and went off on this whole tangent about not being 35 and it not being covered by insurance yada yada yada.
I have tried to message my Dr on MyChart but it is set up so that you can only message a provider you have had an appointment with recently and since my first prenatal appointment was with the NP that is who my questions have to go to. One of them was then answered by someone else, IDK who it was just signed Kim. Who the fuck is Kim? My other question she answered directly but I didn't like her answer. It was about herbal tea and she basically said "idk the only tea I know is safe is green tea, mint tea and fruit teas" well then maybe you can look into it more for me and help me make and educated decision. But really I was just asking you because MH was freaked out by the fact that the lavender honey yogi tea had a warning to consult your doctor if you're pregnant. I messaged her about the NT scan and I have not heard back. I am just over 12 weeks now and I have an appointment with the OB on Friday so if I might just wait until then to ask about it because I could still do it next week.
Idk if I will switch practices because honestly I don't really care. I am going to deliver at a hospital so any practice I go with I will just end up with what ever OB is on call. I'm sure there are going to be incompetent people at any one of the groups I go with and because the way our healthcare system is set up and they are all trying to cover their ass, I'm never going to get straight answers. This is why I am leaning more towards having a doula.

@izza2 I would also have the same conversation with an actual doctor in the practice and see if the NP even knows what she's talking about. I'm sure some NP's are lovely and competent, but in my experience, I've yet to come across one that I'm willing to work with. Last pregnancy, I had a knock down drag out with a nurse because I wanted to request they check my thyroid (having had previous issues with it). She refused, told me that there was nothing wrong with it, they didn't do that, that I should talk to my GP about it, and on and on. Anyway, when I saw the doctor, she was like "What?!" and ordered bloodwork then. They've been managing my clear hypothyroidism ever since. My point is, sometimes you can't trust these people to know what they're talking about and you have to go around them and talk to a real doctor.
@krashke and @izza2, I;m sorry you're having such a frustrating time getting anything done with your practice. I would search others in your area. The situations you've described would never happen in the office I go to. When I went for my first ob visit with my dr she was so excited for me to be pregnant again and remembered details from my son 3 years ago. She gave me the run down on what has changed genetic testing wise and she seems really up to date on the latest best practices. My point is that there is better care out there and I don't want you to settle.
I'm in a few area mom facebook chat groups and women are always asking for ob recommendations. Maybe posting in a local group to get feedback on different practices would offer some insight.
@krashke You should obviously do whatever you feel comfortable with, but for what it's worth, I would say the behavior you are describing is not normal, and would not be considered a standard experience in health care. I have never experienced anything like that with any of my regular OB/GYN practices. It may not be worth it to you to switch at this time, but for the future, you might want to consider finding someone else.

@MoonOverGoldsboro unfortunately I think it is more common practice around here. I live in Minneapolis which is dangerously close to the Mayo Clinic so most doctors aren't really interested in the mundane. I'm a healthy, no risk, first time mom so I think they don't expect me to ask questions or the questions they do expect are the "normal" ones. I saw another OB/GYN practice for a routine pap last year and I asked them about pregnancy and birth and they said that the doctors at their practice don't focus on that. They specialize in incontinence and other OB/GYN issues. So that is why I started looking for a different one and I kind of just ended up at the one I'm at because it's close to work. I looked through all the biographies of the doctors for different practices looking for one that mentioned something about first time moms and pregnancy. Otherwise they all list these really specific things that they are interested in.

When I wasn’t pregnant with DS, we only did it twice (we were both too scared in the first trimester, then we had two really bad bleeding issues post sex, and then I was on pelvic rest until 37 weeks and then I just felt like a whale...). Anyways. The two times we did it, I bled. Like dripping blood. The first time I didn’t tell my midwife until weeks later and she damn near lost her mind when I finally did and told me that I absolutely needed to tell her if it happened again. I had Googled and saw that some bleeding post sex was semi normal. And it stopped. So I just brushed it off. Kinda.
When we finally got the nerve to do It again, I bled again. Like a lot. Ended up in L&D in Hawaii on vacation. Turned out that sometimes during pregnancy, the cervical cells can sometimes migrate to the outside of your cervix. And when they are poked, they bleed. So then I was on pelvic rest because we didn’t want any thing his head happening more and my cervix getting irritated.
Anyways... not sure what the chances are of that same sort of cell thing happening again is. But between our PGAL brain, and the ptsd about the bleeding during last pregnancy, we’ve been kind of afraid to do anything.
@krashke oh hmm I hadn't even heard of that before! Lol. I've been trying to find an ornament that will "represent" the baby, but I keep telling myself I should just wait until the day before Christmas because everything will be soooo on sale. I'm going to search around for you on the interwebs though because I'm bored.
