@lincbeesmom Anything with menthol and camphor is not recommended during pregnancy. There are some natural ones available without menthol or camphor in them, but I don't know how effective they are.

@lincbeesmom@mileswithmyles I had a cold for 2 weeks and drank lots of hot tea with honey (helps for sorry throats ans coughs), OJ and water. The tea being hot also helps loosen the mucus up a bit. Try putting hot water in a bowl and putting your face above it with a towel over you. It will steam your pores and help with congestion too. And of course there is always soup and rest. It's tough. My midwife said I could get a saline spray (did nothing) and use lozenges. Get well!
@lincbeesmom@mileswithmyles if you have a stuffy nose, Eucalyptus Oil has always helped to clear me up. There are some mixed reviews about what oils are safe during pregnancy but putting it in a diffuser is a generally safe option. Not pregnant, I would put a drop or two in/under my nose but I'd be a little cautious about doing that while pregnant.
@mileswithmyles A neti pot with distilled water and the saline packets that come with it is amaaaazing for congestion. I use it at least once a week when I start getting a sinus headache.
Planning on making some soup tonight. This is day 4 and it seriously feels like it’s getting worse. DS is sick too but not as bad as me. He just has a bad cough.
I saw something for hot lemon/ginger/honey “tea” that sounds amazing but I don’t have the energy to go to the store.

Once a week? I use the Neti pot twice a day! And my midwife suggested to add 5 drops of Goldenseal to the salt water. Supposedly it has antibacterial properties that can help prevent / treat sinus infections.
@Pearlvirus My sinuses haven't been too bad lately. If I have a cold or it's allergy season, I'm all over the neti pot as many times per day as I can squeeze in. Haha.
@Ceridwen77 Yes to headaches! I am annoyed because the info I found online said they were supposed to be more a first and third trimester thing, but they hit me right around the end of the first and have been getting worse and worse. It sucks. Mine seem to include bad tension in my neck and shoulders so I might try finding a good place for a prenatal massage to see if that helps.
Ugh.. mine are in my neck ans shoulders too. Horrible. Makes me feel like totoal crap. My heater neck wrap has been my best friend
Has anyone heard anything about the new Medela Sonata pump? We have money left in our HSA that we are going to lose at the end of December so I was going to get a pump now. Trying to decide between another PISA or spending the extra money on the Sonata. There's a pretty big price difference (at least in Canada).
I posted on another thread that I have a cold. As of this morning my cough is painful. Should I go to urgent care? I’m weighing the exposure to more illness against the feeling that I might have bronchitis...for the third time this year.

Stuck in box
I bought it but have nothing to compare to. It seems really nice and quiet. It has multiple pumping settings and blue tooth to your phone.
@doraleigh35 money you put into an HSA doesn’t expire. Maybe you mean an FSA? You should have until March 2018 for eligible expenses for that too. Sorry I don’t have experience with that pump.
@Ceridwen21 yes, it does. We are in Canada. Canada Revenue Agency requires that HSA allotments expire after a certain period of time, most are one year and some plans will allow you to carry over for an additional year. DH's expires in December and mine expires in July.
This was me with strep throat at one point. My peak was eleven times in one year. Insurance refused to pay for my tonsils to be removed because they considered it an elective surgery. I’m sorry you’re sick while pregnant. That sucks! Hopefully you’ll be feeling better soon with meds though.
@mileswithmyles, I'm so sorry you're sick! I'm glad you went to the doctor though! I hope you feel better soon!
So, DS and I had a very rough day. We were in an accident and I'm pretty positive my car is totaled. The front of the car is completely crushed and the airbag deployed. Other than being a little sore on my left shoulder (I think from the seatbelt), I feel okay and DS seems okay. A friend of mine came to pick DS and I up. When we got to her house, her friend made a comment that if it were her she would go to the doctor to have them check the baby. I feel fine (no cramping, bleeding or soreness in or around my abdomen). I have a scheduled appointment Monday afternoon. Do you think I need to go tomorrow? Should I call the nurse line? Again, I didn't think about it because I feel okay. What would you do?
@JNCPro3130 I'm so sorry but its good you're all okay!
If your appt is Monday I personally would wait. This also sounds kinda shitty but is there anything they could do for the baby at this point? Sorry if its harsh I just kind of think that way.

No, I had the exact same thought. I figure they'd tell me to rest and call if I get cramping, bleeding, etc. There's not much (if anything) I can think of to do. Praying this little bean is okay.
Someone in another thread suggested an oral rehydration solution for the bad headaches. I started drinking Gatorade almost daily and they’ve finally gone away. I still have horrible dizzyness and nausea, but at least the migraines are gone (fingers crossed they stay gone).
@JNCPro3130 I was rear ended early in my pregnancy and freaked out. Went straight to my Dr and they did an ultrasound. Everything was ok but they had me do pretty much light duty on everything for a few days as a precaution. As long as there isn't bleeding or cramping, you're probably good to wait until your appt.
@dem068a I would get the amnio. The low risk of the amnio better than the constant stress. I'd also want to know what dealing with and I would want to have as many options as needed.
My natural medicine books all warn against goldenseal use in pregnancy. It's amazing usually. Not sure if it's different in the neti pot. My ob said Vicks was ok. It's just menthol.
@JNCPro3130 I'm so sorry about your accident. How scary. I'm glad you and DS are okay. I hope your appointment on Monday eases any worries. I hope you don't have any lingering pains and your shoulder feels better soon.
@silverhope, thanks. It was scary, but I'm so glad my car held up as well as it did! Based on all the front damage, I'm just glad nothing crushed into the car. I'm super thankful for my Corolla!
I have a killer headache today and I'm pretty sore, but it could have been a lot worse. I'm counting my blessings!
I totally agree, and decided to go ahead and do the amnio last week. It was super unpleasant, but I am glad that it is over. I am glad we just did it and now once we have results, I (hopefully) won’t be quite as stressed out
for anyone that has abnormal anatomy scan results and is thinking about getting an amnio, I am happy to tell you more about my experience if that helps!
@JNCPro3130 So sorry about your accident! I was MIA all weekend, so I'm just catching up. Hope everything went well at your appointment. @mileswithmyles Sorry for your bronchitis, that sucks. I was told I scored high on the BV/Preterm Birth Risk scale, so they wanted me to take Flagyl. Yuck. I told them I wouldn't and fought with them until they put me on clindamycin. I'm still not happy about it, but it's better than Flagyl. Antibiotics making you feel crappy when you're already feeling crappy is just....well...crappy. Hope you feel better soon! @lincbeesmom I'm definitely no expert! I could very well just be repeated old wives' tales that aren't actually true! I'd always heard menthol and camphor cause your vessels to constrict (including in your placenta) and that's why you're supposed to avoid in pregnancy. But again, I have no idea if this is true. I hope you start to feel better!
