@ffw0617 So I guess my OB doesn’t do “weaning” off progesterone so Sunday I will be 12 weeks and will use my last dose that night. To tell you the truth I’m basically scared sh*tless about how I will feel both physically and mentally when I’m not taking it anymore. I have an appointment Monday so will be asking lots of questions.
@lisa2589 hmmmm.... that makes me wonder will he or she keep you on it? I've heard some ppl taking it the entire pregnancy.
@doxiemoxie212 I saw the NIPT comments but I didn't see about the gender. For some reason I thought only the invasive test would tell you this early. I feel like I've seen at least a dozen pregnancy announcement on social media this year, and every time I see the gender its at 4 or 5 months, never this early.
@ffw0617 many women under 35 opt not to get NIPT because insurance doesn’t cover it and it’s so expensive. So that’s probably why they’re not announcing sooner.
@doxiemoxie212 is that something my doctor would tell me first (if my insurance didn't cover it)? Or I wonder if that's included in her overall cost. Because instead of paying per visit we have one treatment, labor and delivery copay that's due at 20 weeks. I guess it wouldn't matter much now, I've already had it done.
@ffw0617 my doctor didn't tell me what the cost would be. She told me to call my insurance and MaterniT21 to find out the cost. My insurance is through Illinois, which as a state requires it to be covered, so it's going to be like $150 for me. If that weren't the case it was going to be $700. The bill comes from the NIPT company, if I'm not mistaken - not your doctor. But I'm sure that could vary.
@doxiemoxie212 i hope that's not the case, and at least most of it is covered. Considering probably wouldn't find out the gender until week 16-20, I'd pay $150 to know the gender a month or two in advance. Plus having the choice to get more testing if needed for conditions.
@ffw0617 I would probably recommend asking specifically since my case is a unique circumstance and most women under 35 do have to pay the $500-700 price tag (which is just mat21s fees; it doesn’t include doctor fees for the blood draw).
@ffw0617 ~ I’m paying $50 for an ultrasound at 14w and change to find out. Obviously that isn’t 100% like the blood testing, but my place does these ultrasounds as early as 13 weeks. Just another option to think about
(It’s an elective ultrasound place - not through my doctors office - we did one with DS too at about the same gestation and it was correct for him).
Edit because autocorrect changes was to wasn’t and that makes a big difference in this context.
@ffw0617@doxiemoxie212 I’m over 35 so my NIPT is covered (Panorama), but if it wasn’t it would be $2000 out of pocket. Some labs have deals where I would only have to pay between $200-$500, but not all.
@BurlapandLace I thought it wasn't possible to see sex until 16 weeks minimum because even girls have something that looks like a penis at the time? I can't remember where I read that, though...
@doxiemoxie212 ~ They look the same until 13 weeks. Then you can tell
Sometimes though, a girl can be swollen and look exactly like a boy that early. So it’s obviously not guaranteed and the longer you wait the better your results are.
@doxiemoxie212 the swelling is supposed to go down between 13-14 weeks and should be able to tell fairly accurately after that.
@BurlapandLace I like your idea. I’m hoping my OB will want a recheck on my SCH around 16 weeks and then we could be able to find out right before Christmas!
ETA: I should say a GOOD ultrasound tech should be able to tell fairly accurately after that
Mine is currently scheduled for 14w4d on Dec 16th. We just want to know before Christmas so we can announce to our parents with their gifts. I’m considering pushing it back a week to the 23rd, but I don’t know if they will be open that day, and then if they are, that gives us ZERO time if we need to do another one if the first one is unclear. So I think I will leave it for when it is and see what happens. We went around the same time with DS and the tech said it was VERY obvious what we were having at that point. But he was obviously a boy and that’s easier to tell. It’s the girls that are sometimes more difficult (and we are thinking and kind of hoping this is a girl, so I’m nervous about going too early).
@katie121209 ~ I LOVE eggnog. But I am lactose intolerant and eggnog is one that I usually hard core regret.
When I was pregnant with DS, I was able to handle dairy better though. So was hoping the same this time around. But alas, I am getting crazy heartburn with dairy this time around. So I am probably going to regret eggnog. But I have to have a little bit at least while we are putting up the tree next Friday and on Christmas Eve.
@doxiemoxie212 wait, what? Raw flour? I will Google later.
Question: Does B6/Unisom have a lingering effect? I forgot to take it last night and this a.m. I feel pretty good. Wondering if I could do it every other day to minimize my grogginess.
So My sweet DH really loves the "for dummy" series and asked me to find him Fatherhood for dummies. The closest thing I could find was "Being a good Dad for Dummies" the New Zealand edition... Does anyone have this and would they recommend it? Is there another book you would recommend for him? I checked out the caveman's guide to pregnancy but that's not really what he is looking for. I found that the Dummies series has Parenthood for dummies and Pregnancy for dummies. I also found The idiots guide to fatherhood, but I am not familar with that series. I am more leaning towards the Parenthood for dummies but thought if anyone had the being a good dad version or something their DH liked better I would love the suggestion. I am only hesitating on the New Zealand edition because in the reviews people complained that the wording was a little different. I searched but they don't have a US edition. They don't have them at my library or I would obvi just check them out. I wanted a little feedback before buying it. MY DH spent some time at work reading different FTD dad articles. I just love that he is trying to get involved and research.
@galactickates This isn't necessarily only for dads, but a good friend recommended this to my husband, and he really liked it. It's a funny but also very useful guide to newborn care.
@MoonOverGoldsboro my DH is a Senior Systems and Network Engineer. I got him a circuit board wedding band! As soon as I saw the words manual and Trouble shooting I knew it was right up his alley. I'll definitely update you. It's set to arrive Sunday! I prime!
Does anyone have advice for extreme under arm sweat + odor and what product(s) work best to fight it? I am currently using Toms natural deodorant but it seems to wear off after about an hour and it is embaressing to smell like french onion soup(LOL). I am avoiding my "clinical strength" deodorant since it has a lot of unsafe chemicals.

@srb1028 So I've found that Native deodorant (natural) works really well from a smell perspective if you get a scent that works well with your own scent (for me this is the lavender rose scent, but they have a bunch that smell great), BUT I will say that it stains clothing. I actually stopped using it because of this. There must be an oil in it, and it has left like, oil sweat mark stains on all of my non-white clothing which is so unfortunate. So.... do with that advice what you will. I just switched back to Dove because IDK, I work from home so I just don't put deodorant on that often anymore (lol poor DH), so when I do I'd rather it work and not stain my clothes. Le sigh.
@doxiemoxie212 I also work from home so I don't always faithfully apply deodarant either lol, but it is embaressing to smell in public. Thankfully it is coat season so that helps cover it up a bit. I will give the Native brand a try and see how that goes. Thanks for the recommendation.

@srb1028 I have heard good things about the Lavanila Healthy Deodorant available at Sephora. I haven’t tried it myself because I can’t justify $15 on deodorant. I’m not a sweaty or stinky person in general so I too don’t wear deodorant that often.
When I do wear deodorant I use Dove advanced care.

@krashke That is a little more than I'd be willing to spend also. I was never a stinky person either until all of these pregnancy hormones hit me at full force lol. I guess I am fortunate in other ways, as I haven't had any MS yet (knock on wood) just occasional nausea.
