Just had my first of 20 weekly Makena injections (in my butt. Lol.) to prevent preterm labor. Didn’t hurt going in but stings like a mofo now. As long as it serves its purpose! Hoping it doesn’t cause too many side effects like mood swings or fatigue, since I was just starting to feel back to my normal self. Fingers crossed whenever I’m not massaging my butt.  :D
I think because you only get one a week, the side effects shouldn't be bad at all.
My friend us in her second pregnancy with them and has had no side effect issues.

  • For those with headaches, have you found anything to help?? Tylenol doesn’t do much for me. I felt great when I was standing in the hot shower and for a bit afterwards, but now it’s coming back. I’m also trying to drink 3 of my 24oz bottles of water. I took a sick day because I knew I couldn’t function or be productive at work.

  • @suchaglencoco Yeah it seems to vary widely by person, with most saying the day after each is the worst. Hopefully it’s as easy for me as your friend!

Electrolytes can help, but this time around all that is helping is tylenol.

  • @suchaglencoco @abhphilly @tincupchalice thanks, ladies!! I might have to get a small cup of coffee tomorrow if it’s still hanging around. I used to drink one cup a day, then switched to decaf when we were TTC. I kind of lost my taste for coffee during the first tri, so I didn’t really miss it.

  • @BertieMeetsGertie +1 for the caffeine.  It is one of the only things that helps.
  • I found "excedrin" without the aspirin... it's just the caffeine and Tylenol. Bottle was labeled 'Tension Headache Relief' at CVS.

I second everyone saying caffeine. When I feel one coming on a drink a Coke and pop some Tylenol and then lay with my head under a pillow in a dark quiet room. Usually helps.
  • @BertieMeetsGertie I take Excedrin Migraine.  It does have the aspirin in it along with the caffeine and Tylenol, but my old OB said it's not really a big deal since some women are on aspirin their whole pregnancy to help prevent pre-eclampsia.  Obviously, check with your doctor, because to be honest, my current midwife was not as comfortable telling me it was "okay" to use it, but agreed with the logic of my old OB.  So I've been using it anyway, otherwise I would not be able to function.

  • I feel like I am choking on my own spit 90% of the day.
  • I’m 16 weeks today. Extreme migraines that I didn’t have with my two girls. Nothing helps I’ve tried drinking tons of water, coffee, Tylenol, all the things that are “safe” during pregnancy. They’re literally debilitating. I’m constantly dizzy even when the headaches are gone.. to the point my ears ring and I start to black out. I nearly pass out during every shower and have learned to get out quickly. I see my OB tomorrow morning so aside from “ drink more water” I hope he has something to say. I’m still exhausted, but I’m sleeping better at night aside from 2-4 pee trips. Still cry at shows, movies, or memories and I’m not usually an emotional person. Feeling much bigger lately and it feels like he’s going to fall out. Some pains and cramping when I’m at work moving around a lot (I’m a nurse so I’m constantly moving). I didn’t work with my two previous pregnancies so I’m thinking that’s a huge reason I feel so much worse.
  • @alisonhadley I'm really looking forward to another ultrasound to see how everything looks. Glad yours has shrunk! I'm working and trying to take it easy but as a teacher with a tough class it's almost impossible to sit during the day. My OB says it's fine to keep working but I'm wondering if it's  contributing to the continued bleeding- it always stops on the weeekends when I can rest
  • @k5678 I would say so... I think me sitting on my ass the last two months has elimated my bleeding. But I’m not a dr...
  • Sorry, no advice on the bleeding but I hope for all your sakes it stops soon. That sucks.
As far as headaches go, I'm with ya! I've started drinking a cup of coffee in the morning but it's not doing much. I'm still only so so on the taste. I also really don't like pop much. But with DS I had a pretty debilitating migraine a couple days after conception and it literally did not go away for about 5-6 weeks. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. Worse than natural labor. After that they lessened in severity but never really went away. My doctor told me I could take two Tylenol. I told her I could also take two tic tacs and would have the same result. She just laughed. So far these headaches just seem more like headaches so I'm just trying to bear with them.
  • Oh yeah, it feels like I have a five pound weight attached to my vagina during the middle of the day. It's a delightful sensation...not!

Yes this! Seriously this kid is only supposed to be the size of an orange- is it an orange made of steel?!

Glad you both said it! This is totally me today and I thought it was kinda weird. Thanks for making me feel "normal" haha.

My midwife got my a script for (I think) fiorecet.  It's class C due to no research, so I haven't taken it yet, keeping it in my back pocket for when I really cannot handle the headaches anymore.  But hopefully you can get something that helps!

  • I am feeling really thirsty as well, and now I'm getting sick of drinking water! And I have to get up every night, sometimes twice to pee!! It's exhausting
  • Went to the OB this morning and he referred me to a neurologist because of the constant dizzyness, headaches, and the fact I have to keep sitting down before I pass out. Kind of freaked out about it all. Anyone have anything similar? He said he doesn’t want to just prescribe something for the headaches until they rule out something serious.
  • I definitely also have headaches and dizziness.  I wouldn't say it's bad enough that I almost pass out, but there have been times where I didn't stand up as fast as normal because I felt like I could pass out if I did.  I honestly wouldn't be worried.

  • I've had the blackening around the edge of my vision a lot.  I just sit down or stop and it goes away without passing out.

  •  I have had 3 nosebleeds this week and the week isn't over.  And they have all happened at work. Wtf body ? W.T.F.
  • @ninja_and_roo mine aren't that bad, but hopefully it's nothing serious!
  • Sinus infection here. Haven’t slept in 2 weeks. Hopefully antibiotics work :(
  • Headaches of course but my dreams are wild. I don't remember them being this vivid last pregnancy. I have woke up now for times crying. Last night bring the worse. Hubby was a champ and woke up to calm me and give me snuggles plus some food lol. Am I the only one experiencing this crazy dreams?

My saliva and mucous production have been in hyperdrive! Anyone else?? It's so much, it makes me gag and vomit. Ugh...
I completely understand. Morning sickness didn't get my to vomit but the exesive saliva had lol. Not helping it's my allergy season right now too. Joys of pregnancy.

I have crazy dreams off and on. Pregnancy is weird.
  • Pregnancy sweat is the worst. So much smell. So much wetness (I avoided the m word for those of you who are weird about it) So much blech!!!!!
  • I've had vivid dreams my entire life so pregnancy makes it no different for me. Am I the only one who has that? And I can probably still remember like 80% of all my dreams I've ever had. Just the other night I had a dream I was trying to breastfeed and couldn't figure out how to get my boob to it's mouth and kept poking it in the eye. That's par for the course for me and I just tell DH and we laugh and wait for the next one.
  • @charlestonchew I'm the same way, though I find u have more of them a night now. Most likely because I get up to pee and interrupt the one going on. Sometimes I have a hard time figuring out if what I'm remembering is a dream, memory, movie, or book I've read. My dreams are all very hyper realistic, I was once explaining a dream to mh and he said, that wasn't a dream I was there too. I must say the pregnancy ones are less realistic though, like running from zombies while trying to care for baby.
  • I used to have very realistic stress dreams. Like I would wake up in the morning and not be sure if a phone conversation had actually happened or if I had dreamed it. Very disconcerting. Currently dreams are much more random - like last night I was canoeing all the way down the Mississippi River.... why? Who knows, but at least I’m clear that didn’t actually happen.
