Re: 35 and over moms - November

  • 1) How far along are you?
    25 weeks exactly today

    2) How are you feeling?
Lots of hip & heel pain.  Walking up the stairs was a challenge yesterday because my hips were so achy.  Between walking for exercise, craft fairs, and weekly meal prep I spent a LOT of time on my feet this weekend though so I probably need to scale back a bit.  Mild morning nausea has come back in the last week or so too.  I didn't have much 1st tri sickness at all though so I can't complain.

    3) Any appointment updates or news to share?
Regular appointment was 10/30, had an ultrasound an 1 hour glucose tolerance last Thursday.  The baby is measuring right on track except for a big belly - it's a full week ahead.  I had to laugh at that because between me & my husband there's no doubt this kiddo will be a chunk.  Wasn't laughing so much when I found out I failed the 1 hour though.
:|  I go back this Friday morning for the 3 hour test.  I kind of wonder if I sabotaged myself a little though.  I ate a sandwich while waiting to go back for the US.  The glucose test started about 45 mins later and I started out w/ a 122 reading because it hadn't been long enough since I ate.  I know you don't have to fast before the 1 hour but I should have used a little more common sense and held off on eating that close to the test.  When I was heavy I had blood sugar issues and learned the ins and outs of testing so I should have known better.  Hopefully I pass the 3 hour with no problems.

I had 1h glucose on saturday...should hear results today. 28w appointment on nov. 30th.  Then I move to every 2 weeks after that.

    2. Tired and extremely irritable which is sort of normal but people are more annoying now. Also my stomach muscles are sore all the time

    3. Regular ob appt this week with another dr in the practice which makes me sad,but my regular ob wants me to meet all the doctors in the practice

I don't know why it never dawned on me before but I've realized in the last week that my doctor's partner could very well end up delivering me.  I noticed their on call schedule hanging on the office wall last week and then saw my OB in the grocery store yesterday, in her scrubs and with wet hair like she'd just showered after a delivery.  It made me a little sad too b/c my doctor is wonderful and has supported us through so much.  I'd hate for her to miss the big day but I also know she has kids & a life outside the office so I'll just grin & bear it if that happens.

  • I've been through so much with my dr and she is one of the few people who can calm me down when I'm anxious and nervous that I don't know what I will do if she isn't there. But like you said she does have a life, just hopefully not when I deliver
  • That sucks about your glucose test @fatted_calf!  Our LO is measuring on schedule except for a big belly too.  They said they could already see that he has chubby cheeks.

    1) How far along are you?  27 weeks on Wednesday.  Hello third trimester!!!!!

    2) How are you feeling?  Hip and crotch pain towards the end of the day.  Tired, winded and hungry but I really shouldn't complain.  Can't get things off the floor anymore.  Putting on pants and underwear is becoming a circus act.

    3) Any appointment updates or news to share?  I take my GD diabetes test on Friday.  After my appointment on the 16th, I start biweekly apointments.  I hope he stays in as close to his due date of 2/7 as possible.  This is our busy season for work and I need as much time as possible to get everything completed before I leave on maternity.
  • Hey ladies :)
    1) How far along are you? 27+4 over here.

    2) How are you feeling? Getting up is getting harder, and it takes a bit to get comfortable to fall asleep, but overall not bad compared to 1st tri lol. Work is stressing me out and I'm seriously considering taking a step back since the next 15 months are going to be BRUTAL here.

    3) Any appointment updates or news to share? 2 appointments on Thurs, so will have updates then! Also my baby shower is this weekend, so we'll see how that goes lol.
  • @mooses77 I started having a conversation with this LO about being born during the week just a little bit ago.  I want my own doctor!  ;)

  • 1) How far along are you?  25w + 3d

    2) How are you feeling?  Pretty good overall. I think I finally got my 2nd tri energy and I’m going to try to harness it and get as much done as possible before 3rd tri exhaustion sets in.

    3) Any appointment updates or news to share?  OB appt on Friday and then I start every 2 weeks after that. I actually haven’t seen the same Dr. twice at our practice yet, because I want to meet everyone there and know that we won’t necessarily know who will be there delivering. I’m more nervous about having a slew of med students coming in during delivery since we’re delivering at a teaching hospital

We did a 5 hr crash course on child birth this weekend. There was so much info all at once that we both got a little emotional afterwards, but overall I’m feeling much less scared than before.
  • 1) How far along are you? 25 weeks + 4

    2) How are you feeling? Pretty good! No major issues.Trying to get as much done on my checklist before the cold weather and holiday frenzy begins!

    3) Any appointment updates or news to share? Had an OB appt today, and after the December appt, I move to twice a month. All is good with LO, and everything seems to be on track. Glucose test to be done when I'm 28 weeks. After all the stories I read, I'm not looking forward to it!

I do my childbirth and infant childcare classes in January, so I hope that I can get through those classes before I deliver! We also made an appt at a pediatrics office in a few weeks to meet the staff and get some info. They were recommended by my OB, so hoping that it'll work out for us.
  • 1. 27 weeks +3 days here.

    2.  Feeling full and heavy.  And kinda like my bump is droopy and I should hoist it up somehow.

    3. Had my first wic appointment today,  it wasn't too bad.  I go next week for 2 appointments the first is my ob check up and 1 hr. Glucose on Tuesday and then on Thursday i go back for the tdap shot and rogam shot. I'm not looking forward to either of those appointments.

  • 1) How far along are you?
    27w

    2) How are you feeling?
Good. Heavy and big and I get tired/winded quickly. I've been very emotional lately and I'm not an emotional person so I'm scaring my husband a little bit. I'm a little scared myself too since this never happened with the other two.

    3) Any appointment updates or news to share?
Glucose test yesterday along with my monthly appt. Everything looks good. They took a bunch of blood for tests, but I'm most curious to see if my thyroid has changed again. That might explain the emotional stuff. Nothing else until Dec 4th unless I fail the GD test.
  • I'm about halfway through my 3 hour glucose test and am ready for a big ol' nap.  It's not been terrible so far, just some mild nausea and a bit of a flying feeling.  I do want to nut punch the guy watching loud chainsaw/tractor pull videos in the waiting room though.

Let me know how you do.  I failed my one hour on Friday and have to do the 3 hour this week  :'(
  • @chucksmom15 I should know something tomorrow, hopefully.  Things got wonky toward the end.  There was a code yellow announcement over the PA system and then the office manager came out to tell us the hospital was under a bomb threat!  First priority for the rest of the day will be to search the campus until they can give the all clear so that might cause some delays.  Just happy to be home safe and sound - what a weird morning.

  • @chucksmom15 I posted my reply too soon.  I honestly didn't find the 3 hour test much worse than the 1 hour.  I was hungry for sure and chugging that much sugar on an empty stomach made for an unpleasant 60-90 mins.  But I was able to drink water the entire time and it seemed to help.  I took my work laptop and Kindle so the time went quicker than I expected.

  • A bomb threat @fatted_calf!  What the heck!!  I'm going to take my work computer.  Hopefully they have wifi and I can get some stuff accomplished.  They let you drink water? They didn't let me during the 1 hour
  • @fatted_calf a bomb threat?! Wow. Glad everything ended ok. I’m bringing a mountain of work with me. I know I will Have a lot of waiting to do before they even see me. I said I was Going to lay off the sugar and carbs in the days leading up to the test, but that didn’t happen. It is what it is. I will Be there bright and early tomorrow...
  • 1) How far along are you? 25 weeks

    2) How are you feeling? Tired. The kidlet keeps deciding to practice his cervical tap dancing at 2am the past couple of nights.

    3) Any appointment updates or news to share? Took a 2 hour glucose on Saturday and I passed! Woohoo!

3 blood draws down....1 to go.  I want to eat my snack and chug some water so bad!!  They told me I couldn't put anything in my mouth including water for the 3 hours  :'(:'(
  • @chucksmom15 Ugghhhh - what?  I'm sorry!  Hang in there, not much longer now.  (((Creepy internet hugs)))

  • Thanks @fatted_calf!  I'm done.  Had my snack in the car.  Feel much better after eating something and drinking water.
  • @chucksmom15 Yay!  Now fingers crossed that you pass with flying colors.

  • You'll always be a Feb 18 mom @karcerplus3!!!
  • 1) How far along are you? 27 weeks

    2) How are you feeling? Pretty good, but not quite as much energy as I had a few weeks ago.

    3) Any appointment updates or news to share? I found out that I have a marginal cord insertion, which is where the umbilical cord is attached to the side of the placenta rather than the center.  My doctor said not to worry about it, but Dr. Google has plenty of horror stories that make me nervous.  I have to have regular growth ultrasounds with my first one being tomorrow and he also said there's a slightly higher chance of needing a c-section.

So my calm and uncomplicated pregnancy is now turning me into a ball of nerves, but I'm thankful that I'll have the regular ultrasounds and will be monitoring the situation.

  • Just keep looking at the positive side of it @awb1216!  You get to see your LO on a regular basis.  Hopefully, it won't be anything but I would be nervous too,
  • @chucksmom15 Hooray!!!

@karcerplus3 We have officially claimed you and aren't letting you go anywhere.   :)

@awb1216 That's what I've had to tell myself as these crazy and/or worrisome things pop up too, I'm very fortunate to have the care I do.  It's hard to stay in that mindset when you're concerned about your health and your baby's though.  Fingers crossed all goes well.

  • FYI I'm super jealous of all you lucky ladies who passed the glucose tests <3 My doc said in the beginning I had a pretty easy pregnancy, til the GD and now it's "complicated". Blah. Can y'all eat lots at Thanksgiving for me!

@awb1216 Googling is like the best and totally worst thing, right! Let us know how the growth scan goes!
  • Sorry you are dealing with GD @clc515!  I was already panicking about Thanksgiving.
  • I passed the 3 hour test!!!  No gestational diabetes for me!!!

YAY!!  Congrats!  How long did it take you to get your results back?  (I'm going in on Friday for mine and the thought of making it through the weekend, not knowing, and dealing with 27 of my in-laws at a pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is daunting.)
  • I did it first thing yesterday morning and the nurse called me early this morning @babybro218.  Hope you get your results quick!!
  • @clc15 That's a bummer to have to deal with.  But at least it's something you can manage, even though it means cutting out all the fun stuff from your diet.  :(

    @chucksmom15 Glad you passed!

Growth scan was good, she's still measuring within one day of her due date and the placenta is up high which reduces of the cord crossing the cervix.  And I was able to confirm that it's a marginal cord insertion (cord near the edge of the placenta) and not a velamentous cord insertion (cord inserted into membranes of placenta), which is a relief.  Unfortunately she was facing the back so I didn't get to take home any cute pictures, but just thankful that all is good so far.

  • That's good news @awb1216!  We didn't get any cute take home pics last time either for the same reason lol.
  • @awb1216 Hooray for a good growth scan!

Thanks for the kind words. I figure it's training me to eat portion sizes which was never my strong suit, so hopefully that'll help me post delivery!
